Konqueror crashing

Hi!
After last two updates of kdelibs or kdebase Konqueror crashing many times. I have problem on http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/lumi
when I am doing with pictures.
And BTW www.zooomr.com has also tools like flick for uploading pictures and they give 50 MB of space for free account.
Thanks,
Mitja

Thanks for the update, it works great!
To answer your questions, you can open the image out of Konqueror to Gwenview, by right clicking on the image, then left click on "Open With..." -> expand "Graphics" -> double-click on "Gwenview".
The toolbar buttons can be see when you right-click on the picture (they will appear in Konqueror's toolbar automagically).  To see more of the Gwenview buttons on your toolbar, you can right-click on the toolbar -> left-click on "Configure Toolbars" -> select "Main Toolbar <GVImagePart>" from the drop down menu.  Then add the buttons (that you want) from the "Available actions:" column.
Best regards,
Jacob
thank you for the answer.
unfortunately i don't have a "Main Toolbar <GVImagePart>" in the drop-down menu :-( ... this is maybe a bug in kde or my installation, as i also experienced some other icons missing in konqueror (kget icon in konqueror, kaffeine-part in konqueror ...)
Hi dp,
The "Main Toolbar <GVImagePart>" is only available when viewing an image.
Example, click on:
http://k3b.plainblack.com/uploads/image … 97_cvs.jpg
Then try the above instructions.
The "kget" icons (and others which used to appear in KDE 3.3.2) only appear now when their individual programs are used.  When the program is done (downloading a file, or viewing an image) it's internal links to Konqueror cease.  That is why "Main Toolbar <GVImagePart>"  wasn't viewable.  I like this new way, because it uses less system resources.  But it is different than what most people are used to because the icons aren't visable in the toolbar, but the programs still run when they are needed.
Best luck,
Jacob

  • Konqueror crash on startup

This has been annoying me for about... a year now.
On startup of Konqueror, it sometimes crashes instantly. Closing down the crash handler and clicking the Konq icon again: Exact same thing.
It always does it two times in a row, and the third time it starts just fine. This has followed be from 3.2 through 3.3 and now into 3.4 beta 2. The has been two complete reinstalls in the meantime, so I can't imagine it is only me it happens to.
Can anyone confirm it also happens to them?

Well, seems to have been solved in the last 3.4 packages from tpowa

The KDE open file dialog also crashes when right clicking a folder and choosing properties.
But doing it from the pasmoid folder view does work.

Can anyone here tell me what is the solution to this?
Usually by a logical process of elimination. The first step would normally be to determine if the proble is local or global. This can be tested by thre creation of a second user account and checking to see if the same problem exists. I.e., if the problem does not exist, then it is local to you first user account and may be something as simple as a corrupt PLIS file. On the other hand, if the proble exists in both user accounts, the it is a global problem like a corrupt application, a conflict with another app, or an OS-wide problem. Basically, the results of each test gives some indication of what you should try next.

  • KDEmod=unstable? + What WM/DE would you reccomend for me

Hi guys. I don't want to start a flame war, please.
I am using Arch with KDEmod and I have the impression that this combination is a lot less stable than my previous Ubuntu+Gnome+Compiz (mind you, I am NOT running compiz on Arch anymore). I don't know if this is attributable to KDE or to KDEmod or to Arch - I am currently installing Gnome on Arch in order to check that.
Anyways. Annoyed by the quirks of KDE (like random Konqueror crashes, improper handling of removable media, showing pop-ups like kdesu in the background etc.) I think it's high time I tried some lightweight WM. I've only used Gnome and Fluxbox for a long enough time to have an opinion on them - I am waiting for your opinions.
    What I am looking for:
    1) Simplicity - I'm fed of Gnome/KDE running a bazillion services I've never asked for and then randomly crashing them
    2) Beauty - what kept me from trying lightweight options so far was that they all seem to look plain ugly (judging from screenshots). I never managed to get my Fluxbox to look the way I wanted. Do you know any WMs with really good themes?
    3) Stability - compiz is not an option: no more crashes please!
    4) An elegant way to manage my open windows - I love the Expose effect but I am not sure if I can get it to work without compositing (actually I'm using the old and unmaintained Kompose to avoid compiz and still have that in my KDEmod). I also love docks (FYI: yes, I am a former Mac user ). I like avant-window-navigator, e.g., but it doesn't run without compositing (and the Arch package is a mess anyway - when I find the time to examine it I'll contact the maintainer).
    So: waiting for your opinions.

alex_anthony wrote:If you're using GNOME right now, you could try the Metacity compositor. (In gconf-editor)
and could you have a Qt WM? I don't think so - you can use QT in any WM as is, Qt manages whats in the window, the WM sorts out borders etc
    Isn't KWin written in Qt?
Anyway. I've tried GNOME w/ Metacity. It's working pretty nice. I've always had the feeling that GNOME's way is the way to go, not KDE's: no bloat, no revolution, just steady improvement.
Openbox is way to problematic - e.g., when I used the template autostart.sh Openbox would crash on every start. Sometimes the buttons in GTK apps were unusable.
staple wrote:kde 4 is really light on resources. i'm not sure what more you could want from a traditional DE
You don't know, so I'll tell you: it's stability I want. I really like the new technologies in KDE4 but I'm not a teenager using his computer to play (when I was I didn't care for stability). I need a reliable desktop experience. And I'm not using KDE4 until it stops crashing every 10 minutes.
Edit: I've re-read your post and it is actually the same thing you said, isn't it.

  • Arch keeps freezing

I'm on a fresh arch install and for some reason X keeps freezing. At first I thought it was a firefox problem until arch froze without firefox running. Then I thought it was a fluxbox problem so I switched to openbox and it still froze. So I ran an xterm and everything froze...again.
I followed the wiki and set it up without an xorg.conf. HAL seems to handle everything.
Here's the output of lspci | grep VGA:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)
    (I know...its shitty).
This computer's a Dell Dimension 2400. It has 2GB of RAM so it handles lightweight desktop environments just fine. Its 5 years old at most and I take quite good care of it. I don't think that its time to retire my old box....yet. I'm hoping that this is just a software problem. Thanks in advance.

loafer wrote:If creating a new user solves it then surely one of the configs in the home directory is at fault.  It couldn't be anything else in that case.  However, as Dheart points out there are some issues with the driver itself so creating a new user would not affect that at all.  The only thing creating a new user would do is give you a new set of configs in a clean home dir.  So it would be much better to just fix the config files.
no, its not easy as you think. since linux 2.6.30 kernel my system acts strange sometimes. for example about that konqueror problem. when i tried to open www.ubuntu.lt then konqueror crashed. running from konsole konqueror and entering same address i see memory access errors. and when i renamed ~/kdemod folder, my kdemod reset to default settings, but konqueror still crashed on that website. i tried reinstalling kdemod metapackage, but it didnt help, and my permissions were fine. so ive created new user, and used same home folder as the previous user, and konqueror started to dont crash on that website. how could you explain that?

  • Missing libexiv2-0.12.so after latest exiv2 upgrade

after latest exiv2 udate to version exiv2 0.13-1, each time when I click on any graphics file in konqueror, it generates error complaining about missing libexiv2-0.12.so. Library is actually gone and replaced (?) by libexiv2-0.13.so
creating symlink did not help konqueror crashing when opening graphic file (png, jpg).
    How can I fix this?
    thank you

I really wonder what package created this link:
    usr/lib/libexiv2-0.10.so -> libexiv2.so
Yesterday Gimp, gwenview und digikam worked fine, but I don't really know why...
This link should have been called usr/lib/libexiv2-0.13.so because this is the lib Gimp and the others are looking for:

  • Best browser/plugin combination

hi im looking for a browser to handle all streaming video formats..so far firefox seems to work ok with mpayerplugin, but it seems to crash ever so often...ive tried plugger with opera too...not too good..konqueror crashes *every* time with mplayer-plugin..
im willing to use any of these browsers(firefox,opera,konqueror)...so what is the best combination of browser and plugin handler(plugger,mozplugger,mplayer-plugin, or something else)

try using kmplayer for konqueror and adjust the settings in konqueror to use it. Thats what I use and the only problems I have are with windows media streams. *I think* it dynamically choose which helper application to use (noatem, mplayer, kaffiene, etc. -mostly kaffiene).

  • Xorg crash when using konqueror, usually at random time

    Hi folks,
For some time I've been experiencing Xorg crashes while browsing with Konqueror. This happens on both Webkit and KHTML. I use latest Xorg (1.9.2), catalyst-hook from AUR (built yesterday), KDE (4.5.3), my arch is x86_64. I have Flash plugin installed. Dunno what else might be helpful.

Can't really find any trace of this in Xorg logs. Should I place a bug report on this somewhere or is it just something I might did?

I have the same problem after update, on my notebook (with ATI HD 4500 video card) and on my home PC (Intel video card).
The Xorg server just crashes randomly, after 5-10 minutes of work.
I may do nothing and it will crash anyway.
This happens only if I use xfce 4.8 desktop environment.
If I use gnome this does not happen.
    everything.log (notebook):
kdm[4468]: X server for display :1 terminated unexpectedly
kernel: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id
    everything.log (PC):
kdm[4468]: X server for display :1 terminated unexpectedly

  • Konqueror and Dolphin crash on right click/Properties

Its been 2 or 3 days that both Konqueror and Dolphin crash with Signal 6 (SIGABRT) when i right click anywhere in the folders and choose "Properties" or "Share".
I noticed after doing some installing/configuring of Samba. But that doesnt mean its related.
System has been updated several times in stable. x86-64.
    Thats the readout:

    Maybe someone can help...
I posted this question also on kdemod.ath.cx
    Thx

    Thx for the reply.
Im not able to be more precise than that i was trying to install samba. I touched some settings concerning networks. In the meanwhile here is the readout with debug symbols. I will post a bug if its likely to be a bug and not some misconfig i did.

    Additional Info:
It does not crash when i right click/Properties in the network "tab". Only on local disks.
Is there some package i could try to reinstall? It would have to be relevant for konqueror and dolphin, since both have that issue.

  • Kdemod updated, konqueror can't open a link. firefox keep crashing

upate to the new kdemod. Everything gets improved. But konqueror can't open a link, keep openning a dialog asking whether to save to the disk or open with firefox.
My firefox keep crashing too. Don't know why? I think nothing to do with kdemod

The key might be Windows 7, not Explorer or Firefox.
Go to Start menu and pick "Default Programs" Choose "Set Your Default Programs". Select "Firefox" from the list to the left Click on "Set this program as default"
Without exiting window, choose "Thunderbird" from same list at the left. Click "Set this program as default"
You can do this with as many programs as you like.
Then click "OK" button at bottom right of window.
I did not have to reboot. Hope this works for you!

  • Webkit/konqueror stops responding, crashes on youtube using flashplayer 11.2.x.x

This might be a webkit case, might be a flashplayer case.
This bug is filled here and at bugs.kde.org.
    Adobe flashplayer, version 11.2.202.356
    Application: konqueror (4.12.4)
    KDE Platform Version: 4.12.4
    Qt Version: 4.8.6
    Operating System: Linux 3.14.2-200.fc20.i686 i686
    Distribution (Platform): Fedora RPMs
    -- Information about the crash:
    - What I was doing when the application crashed:
Browse to the youtube site and start scrolling immediately
using the scroll bars or start typing to search for a video.
Do this a bit faster then usual and keep that doing for about 10 seconds.
    - Unusual behavior I noticed:
Scrolling and/or typing becomes slower and slower.
Konqueror stops responding and finally crashes or hangs
permanently. Behavior is reproducible each time.
When doing things very slow and easy, it works 'better', for
a longer period of time. Videos can be played and searched for but
after a while konqueror/webkit stops responding too.
    - Custom settings of the application:
    /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so (Adobe, version 11.2.202.356)
which is a symbolic link to /usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so
Those are the ONLY custom settings I did.
    Notes:
Using the QtWebkit from PyQt4-4.10.2-5.fc20.i686 produces the same result
(when used in a PyQt4 program).
    Using konqueror in webkit mode.
System is installed from scratch just 2 days ago.
    -Versions installed:
    qtwebkit-2.3.3-7.fc20.i686
    qt-4.8.6-2.fc20.i686
    PyQt4-4.10.2-5.fc20.i686
    Fedora 20 Linux 3.14.2-200.fc20.i686
This official Fedora KDE spin has been updated with the latest updates
    as of 5 may 2014.
The crash can be reproduced every time.

Sometimes iMovie Projects become corrupted and can cause iMovie to crash. This is what worked for me after months of frustration without any solution.
Copy the iMovie Projects folder to the desktop. To avoid confusion rename this folder Desktop iMovie Projects. Do not delete these projects from the Desktop iMovie Projects folder.
Then delete all projects from the original iMovie Projects folder for iMovie - found Mac HD > Users > (Your home folder) > Movies > iMovie Projects.
Either create a simple test movie project in iMovie or...
or take, from Desktop iMovie Projects folder, one of the projects that you know was successfully exported in the past and copy from the Desktop iMovie Projectsfolder into the original iMovie Projects folder.
    Try launching iMovie again.
In turn take, from Desktop iMovie Projects folder, another of the projects and copy from the Desktop iMovie Projects folder into the original iMovie Projects folder.
Close and restart iMovie. Try to export this project
In transferring one project at a time you can isolate the corrupted project(s)

  • [SOLVED]Ark,konqueror,okular crash when quit

They used to works well, but after update to kdemod 4.2.4 or because of some other reasons that i don't know,it still works now but will crash when i quit.
    Here is the log
Fatal Error: Accessed global static 'KCatalogStaticData *catalogStaticData()' after destruction. Defined at /home/kdedev/kdemod/core/kdelibs/src/kdelibs-4.2.4/kdecore/localization/kcatalog.cpp:71

    sock_file=/home/edee/.kde4/socket-archlinux/kdeinit4__0
konqueror and okular crash because of the same reason.
    Any Suggestions?
    Edit:it's a bug of qtcurve-kde4,after upgrade to qtcurve-kde4-0.65.0-1,now it's ok.

  • Kaffeine embedded crash fixed when compiled with libxcb support?

    From kaffeine website:
    Embedded Kaffeine crash fixed.
This long standing bug is now fixed in current svn ...
In order to make it possible, we have ported Kaffeine and xine to xcb (a thread-safe replacement for xlib).
You can give it a try right now:
    1) install libxcb=>1.0
    2) install current xine-lib cvs (it contains xcb based video output plugins: xshm and xv)
    2) install current Kaffeine svn
    Notes
    a) Both xine-lib and Kaffeine have to be compiled with xcb support (autodetected, check configure results).
    b) Kaffeine will still work with xlib based video out plugins if compiled without xcb (but then, no fix!)
    From 0.8.4 changelog:
    * xine-part: support for xcb. Requires libxcb 1.0 and xine-lib 1.1.5. Fixes several issues.
Any reason not to incorporate this? If it lives up to it's promises It could mean kde users only need ONE media player :-)  (I have 2 installed just to get DVD menus and embedding in konqueror without crashing)
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Steve.

I felt that the laptop was possibly overheating and that is why I started down the road to call "customer support", thinking that a fan went out or there was damage to hardware due to it over heating.  And that road got me no where in a fast manner, and two "techs" telling me it was a software related issue and that I needed to reformat the laptop (twice) and re-install to factory settings.  Even when I did this, it still had the issue and they again told me that it was software related when there was no software on the computer except for Windows 7.  The only thing that customer support helped me with is the knowledge of next time I buy a laptop, but Dell or any other laptop besides a Toshiba.  That is too bad.
Anyway, I tried to continue on with my thinking of a possible over heating issue, so I blew air into the vents and fins of the laptop.  A lot of dust came out.  I kept blowing air into the vents until no more dust came.
My wife had to re-install everything again to her laptop after I got the major items re-installed.  She has been running it for the last day or so with no issues.  We hope that this was the issue.  I know she enjoys the laptop when it was running well.
I guess we will see how it goes.

  • Konqueror 4.3.2 frequently times out vs. Firefox never does

    Hi,
    I'm on a fully (daily) Arch 32b/KDE 4.3.2 PC.
I've noted that Konqueror frequently times out (error message "Socket operation timed out") whereas Firefox NEVER does that (same sites). I've topped up the socket read (System Settings, Connection Preference)  to 20 Sec (was 15 originally) but this didn't help.
Besides I notice that Firefox is much faster rendering various sites.
    Please Advise!
    Thanks

The Chrome bookmark issue is internal with Google since the Android team and Chrome team are seprate and is being addressed. There is a great app that I'm using called Chromemarks which comes in free and pay versions that sync your Chrome bookmarks and allow you to access (and for the pay version edit) them. Highly recommend this app since it looks like this issue is months old.
I know I returned my Ideapad for another, but I'm trying to stick around and help with small issues best I can and share any info I've gotten. Desipite this set back I'm still a Lenovo fanboy and hope to one day own a fully functioning Lenovo tablet (with all the bugs worked out). Highly recommend you guys also turn to some of the larger Android communities for help, some issues aren't Lenovo issues, but issues with the actual OS shared by all Androids (though nothing as major as the current Ideapad K1 issues). This inclues small app crashes, the bookmark syncing and being able to access all of your internal storage on your PC. Most of the communities are still mostly focused on phones, but because of the popularity of the tablets are beginning to shift gears.

  • Firefox Konqueror move

(warning: long post + bad English )
I've moved from Firefox yesterday. Mainly for the following reasons:
    1. got fed up with crashes (using the testing 1.5-2 thing as well as my custom-compiled cvs supposed-to-be-fixed packages)
    2. Firefox's a terrible memory hog. Just by browsing forums (no real huge pictures or anything) Firefox's memory footprint reported by xrestop could rise to just above 120MB. It kept on causing my 512MB machine to swap all the time.
    3. I use KDE, and thus QT is my 'main' toolkit. I've been running gtk-qt-engine all the time, but... still.. it looked more like a hack (some things weren't looking correct). And the GTK FileChooser... nothing near KDE's IOslaves (yes, I know, I could use gnome-vfs, but I don't want any gnome parts on my system, none, period)
I've never used Konqueror for anything except file browsing before. I was rally pleasantly surprised by how configurable it is!
    1. I really hate the mid-click goto clipboard url thing in any browser. I quickly found a way to turn it off. Instead, now I'm having that pretty auto-scrolling feature I've been using all the time in Firefox (although it's a bit slow).
    2. I'm using tabs all the time. One thing I've got used to in Firefox is the mid-click close tab. It really works wonders. I've had to hack a bit around to get it working the way I wanted:
    In ~/.kde/share/config/konquerorrc add under [FMSettings]
    MouseMiddleClickClosesTab=true
    3. I had to remap some shortcuts. Ctrl-L for Location bar and Ctrl-K for search bar.
    4. I've been pleasantly surprised by the Ad-Blok feature.. works great - just like the Firefox extension. And the acronym thingy! Thumbs up for the devs. It's 100x easier to configure it than it is under Firefox. And.. you can manage them easily.
    5. Integration.. the thing I've been missing the most in Firefox. Although I've been able to get Kpdf to view pdf's inside Firefox, other things were crippled. And here, they just work And don't forget. Now the browser know what mimetype opens in which program
    6. Bookmarks: importing them from Firefox was painless
    7. Kwallet: Well... too bad I couldn't move my passwords and cookies to Konqueror as painlessly as the previous things. I had to edit them all by hand since I haven't found a neat import feature anywhere
To tell you the truth: Now my Konqueror looks exactly the same as my Firefox setup. Really. Even the button, toolbar and partially the menu (you can edit them by hand in ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc) were changed I have the same browsing experience, without the memory problems or the crashers... and a far better integration.
However.. there is one thing I'm missing. Sage (RSS reader for Firefox). I really loved it. I don't have zillions of RSS feeds to manage, just a couple of sites I'd like to stay up to date. I really loved the way it allowed me to render the feeds using my custom CSS style in the main window. I really miss that. Akregator is fine, but it's... it's just not it. It's a stand-alone application that's aimed at people who have thousands of feeds. I only have a couple. I wish there was something like Sage for Konqueror... a RSS browser in the sidebar.
Just some thoughts. I don't want to start a flame-war (yes, I know this is not the type of forum, but no one never knows ). If anyone has any suggestions on some features I've been missing, please let me know
(again, an awefully long post )

Being happy with the move from Firefox to Konqueror I decided to do something about Thunderbird.
Thunderbird is a great app, but starting it up took waay too long. I mean I have a lot of mail messages, with archives in separate "folders" and such.. It took 30-40 seconds to start. Kmail on the other hands starts (together with a bit stripped down Kontact) in just 9 seconds.
The move to Kmail/Kontact was a bit painful. At first, Kmail appeared as a hostile, unknown territory. No separate "folders" for each account, everything went to the common inbox folder. Though I could move my old messages with ease, I had to configure the accounts manually. Also the address book made some issues. I could migrate it using CSV files, but the 'show as' field disappeared. I had to reconfigure it manually again But after I've done the hard part, everything went downhill frpm now on.
I discovered the great identity manager, the thing I've been used to in TB. I mainly use POP3 accounts, so being able which "personality" I use currently is a good thing. Furthermore, being able to group 2 accounts under one identity gave me a pleasant suprise.
Apart from that, the spell checker. Comparing to the KDE's integrated spell checker, the solution in TB simply sucks. Error highlight, different language for different identify. Just superb. And don't forget about the mime integration - the thing I've been missing in TB for a looong time.
The downside of the move was spam filtering. I mean, on one of my accounts (dating back to 2000 ) I get loads of spam, ~110 each day. I can honestly say that TB's junk mail control is better than Kmail's external filtering (I'm using bogofilter, spamassasin used too much CPu power). Although I can live with it, it's slower... noticeably slower.
I've decided to put my mail into 'maildir' format. I don't know if it's a good choice, but I've read somewhere that it's also used by Evolution and other apps. Anyone can confirm?
