Kontakt 2's Sample Library adequate?

Hello everyone! I am thinking of getting a better Orchestral Library. I was wondering if the Orchestral Library bundled with KONTAKT 2 (VSL) is adequate enough... from standard orchestration to film score like arrangement. Lush strings and big brass...
Or should i get a dedicated one?
IK Miroslav Classik?
EWQL Gold?
Motu Symphonic Library?
thanks

Greetings Anjelo,
unless composing orchestral mock-ups is putting bread on your table, there is no need to even look at the Vienna's stuff. Surely, those are great, amazing samples, but the price tag is great too... Vienna's libraries get regularly recommended, simply because: what's expensive, it must be good... I can't help wonder about its' actual usage by the people who do recommend it...
I would say if you have $10K for the Orchestral Cube + the extended libraries, man, go for it, I can garantee you that you will not be disappointed... I know how it sounds.
Otherwise, any of the listed (IK Miroslav Philharmonik - not the Classik - MOTU Symphonic Instrument, Kirk Hunter's Emerald Symphony Orchestra, EWQL Gold, Garritan's Personal Orchestra, and even (... forgive me) Steinberg's Halion Symphonic Orchestra will keep you busy and creative enough until your work starts requiring something like Vienna Symphonic Library...
Even the cheapest instrument can sound amazing in right hands...
Good luck,
H.

I purchased Aperture 3 about a year ago.  I hardly use it because it's processing speed is so slow when editing pictures.  Can I uninstall the sample library to increase the processing ability of the program? If so, how do I do that?  I need simple instructions because I am not a professional at knowing how to do this.

Aperture is a hardware hog. Unfortunately your iMac  has a weak processing unit and relatively weak graphics, both of which are important for Aperture performance. Your iMac will never run Aperture particularly well; it may or may not be adequate for your needs.
I ran Aperture with weak hardware (2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo 2006 Macbook Pro, 3 GB RAM) for years. It was tolerable because I also used a Mac Pro for heavy editing work. With weak hardware we need to optimize everywhere we can. I suggest:
    • Do not bother running Aperture until you add RAM.
    • Before each Aperture session restart the Mac to clear possible memory leaks, and run only Aperture by itself unless you have 6 GB or more RAM on board.
    • Drives slow as they fill so verify that all hard drives are no more than approximately 70% full as a guideline. Even less full is better.
    • Keep the Library size reasonable by using a referenced-Masters workflow with Masters on external drives. Back up originals before import into Aperture or any other images app.
    Good luck!

The sample library only has been available with the boxed version of Aperture sold from the Apple Store; that version is no longer available; but with the App Store version you got yourself the much better bargain, far less expensive and a less restrictive licence agreement.
You can easily use your own images to do the Tutorials.

  • Missing Metadata Presets when importing sample library following book

ISSUE: NO METADATA PRESETS available during import. (Aperture 3)
    DESCRIPTION:
I have just installed Aperture 3. I am following the Aperture 3 book. When importing the sample Wyoming pictures into the Sample Library , I am directed to choose "basic info" as my metadata preset. I am not able to select "basic info" as a metadata preset. The drop down arrow only yields "none" and "edit". Edit is all grayed out.
I then tried it in the Main/real Aperture 3 library. I tried to import a few pictures from a a hard drive. Same issue. NO METADATA PRESETS AVAILABLE FOR IMPORTING INTO APERTURE 3.
    Thank youl

Here is the answer for anyone who may hae same problem:
Delete the following files from Application (Aperture) /Support :
    1: import Presets.plist
    2:MetadataSets.plist
    3:Metadata Presets.plist.
Removing these has restored the basic metadata presets.
    Hope it helps.

  • Where to install Kontakt and Battery Samples?

So, I'm going to take the plunge and buy Komplete 5 today. I want to optimize disk speeds and processing power. Right now I have three hard drives. Two internal and one FW800. One is the system drive, the other internal is for recording to, and my FW800 I use to transport data from home to the studio.
Where should I install the Kontakt and Battery samples to optimize speed? I've never quite wrapped my head around this.
    Thanks,
    ~trevor

Yep, I already did it like that once or twice...
But... I somehow always forget it and, in the middle of replying, end up opening the LP8DF forum in a new tab and navigating to the post, reading the sig, back to the tab I was replying in, oops, forgot to look at RAM, back to other tab, read, switch, write, switch, check another spec, switch back, write... life can be so relentless sometimes...
I just think it could be so simple for the forumdevs' to add a simple little code so that the message one replies to, includes its' sig.
    How hard can it be?

  • Finding the Sample Library File and the Wyoming Folder

I had a 30 day trial and purchased the activation code (not the DVD). The "Exploring Aperture" tutorial mentions getting the Sample Library File and Wyoming Folder from the installation disk. Since I don't have an installation disk, does anyone know where I can get the Sample Library File and Wyoming Folder?

  • Aperture 3 Sample Library

    Hi,
The Aperture 3 DVD includes a sample library and also a "Wyoming" folder.
Because I have installed an Aperture 3 trial version three days ago and entered the serial number into it, I don't have the DVD and the sample library.
Do you know how can I get the sample library? I really want it to use it with the "Exploring Aperture" PDF and for testing.
    Thanks.
(sorry if my english is not perfect!)

I, too, was frustrated by having the "Getting to know Aperture" PDF (not the exact name) and not having access to the sample library. I was using Lr3b at the time. What I did was
    - import all new shots to both Lr3b and Ap3
    - process everything in Lr3b, and as time allowed, tried to do the same in Ap3 (and slowly learned how it worked)
I did read the PDF I mentioned above, and I did go through almost every one of the short lessons using my own photos. It was a good introduction to the interface and the processes involved.
When I was done testing -- long before my 30-day Ap3 trial expired -- I purchased Ap3. I am still in the process of moving my photos to Ap3. I now do all my processing in Ap3.
Again, it is frustrating to have to buy the product to access the sample library (I loaded it from CD and never used it), but it is +in no way+ an impediment to learning and/or testing Ap3.

  • Record Tracks and Store Sample Library on an external drive

Is it better to store your sample library and record tracks on an external drive or your main hd? I was wondering which setup would give me an advantage and get less overloads.

I highly recommend that whenever you start a track you save it as "Project" in an external HD, this way you keep your system free. I still copy the folder on the internal, but I work out of the external. Your machine will thank you.
P.S. I recommend the Lacie firewire HD. I even take mine on the road and they are very faithful workhorses!

  • Re: pulling samples into session from personal sample library

i've been having a lot of crashes when trying to preview audio files from my sample folder. All my files are Aiff, any idea why this might be happening?

Imagine I've got say $400 in my pocket and want to
get a nice sample library (or two if it's in budget).
Right now I have no preference for what type of
samples, only requirement is that they're really
well done, and I can easily load them into EXS.
Kirk Hunter's Emerald. If you like the sound of the demos, (some folks do, some do not), it is a very complete and playable library.
    http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/khsoemeraldexs.php
Personally I like the sound which is why I pushed Kirk to create it for the EXS24.

  • Using a 128 gig lexar SD Card for NI Sample Library

    Hi all,
I'm running a little low on internal hard drive space on my MBP (current generation), and a big space culprit is the 90ish gig Native Instrument sample library I've got on it. I've heard that Logic Pro loads all the samples plugins and audio files and everything into the ram these days instead of reading things of the disk, so I was wondering if moving either the NI sample library or my projects to a Lexar 128 gig SD card would hinder the software performance (or just make the project loading and sampler loading take longer).
    Cheers!
    dl

It will definitely hurt performance..and possibly kill your SD card without notice some random day.

  • Looking for Rickenbacker sound as software instrument or sample library

    Hi everybody,
does anybody here know if there is any kind of software instrument pout there or a sample library that can be used for a (demo) substitution for a Rickenbacker bass guitar sound?
You know, this incredibly and unmatched elastic and rumbly bass guitar sound that can send your stomach on a roller coaster ride...

    Hey Trey,
Are you looking for loops to create music, or pre-existing music beds? For loops, I've used bandmate loops - http://www.bandmateloops.com - most of them sound really good to me. I don't really use music beds in my projects.
If you're looking for sound effects and don't need loops, STP can work with several formats, so there are the large cd libraries if you're looking for lots of (expensive) choices, or if you just need a couple of sounds you're not finding, you could try a site like http://sounddogs.com. They have thousands of downloadable effects, and you pay based on the number and length of the effect. I've used them before, and they were really convenient. They also might have music beds available, but they most likely won't be in apple loop format.
    Hope this helps!

  • Cannot download books from sample library

    Hello,
I've just installed Adobe Digital Editions for my computer and connected it to my Sony Reader.
Adobe Digital Editions took me to the sample library website where there is a list of books, when I click to download a book I get some prompts asking if I'm sure I want to open digital edition etc, I accept all. Digital Edition gets started if it's not running, but it does not add the book to it.
Edit: further testing shows that some books can be downloaded while others can't.
e.g. The Geography of Bliss works, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes doesn't, it redirects me to a file name URLLink.acsm which wants to open with Digital Edition, but doesn't do anything. The contents of the file are some xml with resources and tokens.
What am I not doing right? How can I download all books?

Got the same problem. Can't download some eBooks. Importantly can't open books from British Library - the only reason I've installed the program.
Also it keeps crashing when closed which may be related.

  • ITunes is adding my sample library to its library, how do I undo this?

Hi, my 140Gb music library is stored on my iMac.
I've finally got it all uploaded to iTunes Match and am now activating iTunes Match on my Macbook and Windows laptop, as I want them to be simple 'slaves' to my iMac's music library, so they can stream its music when I travel.
When I opened iTunes on my Macbook, I needed to do a 'search for music' to get my artist tab working.
As there is NO music in my 'automatically add to iTunes' folder, I was very surprised to see my Macbook's iTunes started adding all my samples for Ableton Live, which are stored in a Dropbox folder.
My iMac has an identical folder structure and has never done this.
My Macbook now has my entire iTunes library viewable on Match (great) but with hundreds of drum loops added too (not great) which I imagine it will now start trying to upload to the iTunes Match service (even worse).
How do I remove these samples from my iTunes library on the Macbook without deleting the real ones; and stop it happening again?
As far as I'm concerned, no music that is not put in the 'Automatically add to iTunes' folder should ever enter my collection.

To erase your iPhone contents, you can restore it to it's factory settings. Instructions on how to restore your phone can be found here.
