Korean version of Aiport 802.11n still 130Mbps?

I bought my MBP in Feb/08 in Korea.
Until recently they did not allow the segment of frequency
limiting speed of 802.11n to 130Mbps.
Now I am using my laptop in Australia. So Is there anyway
that I can check if my MBP's Airport is still speed limited?
And if it is is there anyway of removing this restriction?

Hello Filippo Morelli. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Have you considered running a "Dual-Mode" network?
The set up would be something like the following:
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) connected directly, via Ethernet, to the DSL/cable modem, and configured for 802.11n only.
o 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) connected directly, via Ethernet, to one of the AEBSn's LAN port, and configured for 802.11b/g. Optionally, the AEBS could be configured as the main base station in the WDS with the AX.
o 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX) connected wirelessly to the AEBS as either a remote base station in a WDS or as a wireless client for iTunes streaming and/or USB printer sharing.
In this configuration, you would have separate wireless networks, one for 802.11n clients, the other for all others. Since the AEBS would be configured as a bridge, all clients on both wireless networks could access the Internet thru the AEBSn, as well as, communicate with each other locally.
If, and when, Apple releases 802.11n updates for existing 802.11g products, you could substitute them in piecemeal.

  • Is 802.11n still hub-based network?

    Hi All,
Everytime we talk about 802.11 wireless network, we consider it's a hub-based network. However, 802.11n supports MIMO which means while one antenna is transmitting the other antenna can be receiving. To me, it works like a switch, not hub. I want to confirm with everybody if 802.11n still is hub-based.
    Any input will be appreciated.

Current wireless technology is still a hub-based network:  when one talks, all stops to listen and wait for their turn.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n still in shrinkwrap -- should I return it unopened?

I just bought one of the new Airport Extreme 802.11n base stations today and haven't even had time to take it out of the shrinkwrap yet. Based on what I'm reading in this forum...I'm torn about what to do. Should I take it back unopened, or should I hang onto it, pray for no problems, and/or hope for fixes?
I had bought it primarily for the disk/print sharing features, but also to potentially take advantage of the draft-n speeds in the future. Since everything I own right now is g-only (Core Duo MacBook Pro, Airport Express hooked to my home theater, PSP, PC laptop from work), I'd be using the new AEBS only for 802.11g in the short term. However, I'd assume that ExpressCard/34 802.11n cards will come out at some point, enabling me to move to a mixed g/n network in the future.
The critical thing for me is a decent assurance that the router would work well in a g-only configuration since a friend is waiting to buy my old router. Is anyone trying to use the new AEBS in this way? If so, does it perform well, or are you seeing the same problems that the 802.11n users are seeing?

    Ask yourself a question.
How fast is your internet connection?
If it is is 1-2-8 mb speed then you dont need 'n'.
If you transfer personal info between computers fast speeds allowed up to 54 will save you time.
'n' is to provide greater range like Mimo and increased transfer speeds.
But do you really need it?
No,if you dont transfer huge data,
Yes, if you want to transfer (stream video from your iTV from Mac if you spend most of your day in front of TV.
There is no substitute for a good reliable connection.
In my real world experience because I only have a 8mb ADSL connection 'g' is not the strongest and most reliable scenario to use. During the last airport update my last 3 years of uninterrupted airport connections mixed PC and Macs on WDS set up went belly up and I had posted my thoughts as well with the relevant results and now set up is fine. But at a price.
Downgraded to all on 'b' and now use my Draytek Vigor 2800VG and have AEBS put away in storage.
My signal and range is out of this world. When I decide that I have enough free time to sit in front of a TV and download movies and watch them when I have nothing better to do such as travel the world etc. etc., that is the time I will go for speed...or will I.
Dont get bamboozled by the hype. If you really want one wait for a year then decide. Let others solve the teething problems as is there want.

  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n)  - Which draft version of 802.11n does it use?

When the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n was announced, Apple didn't specifically state which version of the 802.11n draft it was using.
At the time of the announcement, version 2 of the 802.11n draft had not been submitted yet for approval.
So my question is what version of the Draft-N spec is it using?
    1.0?
    2.0?

As I understand it, the big change was going from a single 40 MHz channel to dual 20 MHz channels because some b/g base stations would get confused by 40 MHz channels, causing problems on their networks.
Here's a link to a Computerworld column about the new draft, which pretty much confirms that it's only a firmware update:

  • AirPort Utility doesn't support my version of AirPort Express  802.11n

I have OS X Yoesmite installed and now my AirPort Utility doesn't support the version of AirPort Express  802.11n . Any advice?

AirPort Utility 6.3.4 in Yosemite does support both versions of the  802.11n AirPort Express.
What is the model number of your AirPort Express?  If you are not sure, look on the side or bottom of the Express. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
Hard to see the model number.....you may need a magnifying glass and good lighting.

  • Worth to move to 802.11n?

Related to my previous topic, the fact is my Airport express in only capable to run 802.11g, now I considering to move to Airport extreme which seem to be advantage by 802.11n and Airdisk.
My set up is one Imac (new 2008 version) which having 802.11n, one PC (my son) and one printer that I want to share this printer, internet and Wlan with the PC.
    The question is:
Does it worth to move to 802.11n in term of wireless speed and range?
Does some body experiences pro and con on Airdisk usage?
Thank you very much for your advise.
    Choun.

    1. For internet usage, no. For huge backups or data transfers between computers on your private network, then maybe yes.
    2. Pro for Airdisk usage is that you can share a network drive wirelessly and you can also allow wireless Time Machine backups. You can also enable file sharing over the internet so your Airdisk can act as a file server that can be accessed remotely.

  • Why no update for WRT300N for Draft 802.11n Version 2.0 specs?

I see that WRT350N had a BIOS update in August that implemented the Draft 802.11n Version 2.0 (specs).
Why hasn't Linksys provided one for the WRT300N?
    Would be nice...

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • STILL Trying to get 802.11n!

Well, when I chatted with Sales, they said their FIoS modems support 802.11n.  On the phone, sales could not tell me the same thing.  Phone tech support said my Actiontec MI424WR already supports "N wireless" but there is not a single setting that allows this, even after a firmware upgrade.  I figured sales and tech support are flat out LYING to me.  Tech support chat says I have to join Verizon's Beta program.  This might come as a shock to Verzion, but 802.11n has been out for a litle while now... (notes from July of 2010 said Verzion was claiming "soon.")
Other feedback tried to suggest that 11g is just as fast; show to be a lie when I used a Netgear N-to-N hardware bridge and experienced a dramatic increase in throughput.  Unfortunatly I cannot connect all of my devices, which are N capabile, so I'm stuck with Verizon's years-old technology.
When will Verzion stop treating 802.11n for wireless and let us upgrade?  When will Verzion stop lying?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Follow on: Text from the 9 July 2011 Verizon Tech Support Chat session:
Mohd: We have Verizon FIOS G router and it is the latest in G router technology.
WW Gordon: I'm glad to hear that the g router is the latest in "g" technology. Too bad this is years old technology. It's like being proud of having the fastest donkey cart.
Mohd: Mr.Gordon, there is good news for all your FIOS customers, you can opt for the N router by registering yourself, for the latest products provided by Verizon FIOS.
Mohd: Verizon FIOS is still working on providing the N router to all our customers, it is still in its testing face, we are providing Beta Version of N routers to the customers.

I have an 802.11n base and extender and still cannot get a good signal 80-90 ft away . Why?

Hardwire is always recommended because there is virtually no signal loss in a wire....at least up to 300 feet or so.
Another advantage of using Ethernet cable...if you can...is that you can locate the AirPort Express where it is most needed.
If it extends using wireless only, it pretty much needs to be located about half the distance from the main router and the general area that needs more coverage.
I like to use WiFi Explorer since it displays SNR (Signal to Noise) readings, which are the best way to evaluate signal quality.
Mac App Store - WiFi Explorer
If the signal is varying constantly, something is causing it to do so....assuming that the AirPorts are functioning correctly.
Cordless phones are a huge problem for wireless networks.  You want to try to figure out if the phones are causing a problem as a first troubleshooting step.
That is why I suggested that you turn off the phones for an hour or two and watch the network to see how it behaves.  If the signal stops fluctuating....that is a good clue that the phones are interfering with the wireless signal.

  • WLC recommended version for 802.11n

    Hello,
I have to set up a wireless network using 802.11n. I was wondering if the 4.2 version is the best one? Is there any document that tells wich version to use depending on the the configuration we need to set up, for example?
    jr94

    Hello,
Thanks for your replies. I know that I will only be able to manage 1252 with that version, and it is the model of my AP, so it is ok. But I was wondering if I should better use 4.2 or another train of releases. As 802.11n has been released on 9/11, I do not know if 4.2 is the best one.

  • Aiport Express 802.11n speed problem

I just set up my AXn last night and tried some settings. I found that if I set the radio to 802.11 (n only, 5GHx) mode. The connection speed show in the network utility is 270Mbps. But the Tx rate (Option + click on airport icon) is only 54mbps all the time. In the other way, if I set the radio to 802.11 (n/b/g compatible, 2.4GHz). The connection speed became 130Mbps. But I can get a much faster Tx rate now (sometimes reach 130Mbps). This also prove but actual download exercise
This is abnormal, right? Anything wrong with my settings?
    Please help. Thanks.

Just tried 802.11n only (2.4GHz), it can also reach TX rate 130Mbps. But why 802.11n only (5GHz) oly reach Tx rate 54Mbps????
Do I need to reset the AE or re-activate the airport on my iMac?

  • Why after running the Airport Extreme 802.11n cd, still show 802.11 a/b/g??

    Hi,
I had install the 802.11n from the CD of Airport Extreme package, but still under the "Network Utitlity", I can't see the "n"?
    Anyone can help to advise?

    I have a Core duo 2 MBP...
Not clear from the description of your processor.
If you have a "Core Duo" processor, it is not capable of 'n'.
If you have a "Core 2 Duo" processor, it is capable of 'n'.
    I've updated to AirPortExtremeUpdate2007003 - how do i know if i'm using n capability?
To check to see if your Mac has 'n' capability (after neabler installed):
Open Network Utility (found in the Applications > Utilities folder)
Under the Info Tab, choose Network Interface (en1)
In the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), you already have the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n enabler installed.

Well, the Airport Express is also compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. If your Wii is unable to connect to the wireless network, I recommended changing the wireless security of your network.
Open Airport Utility, select your Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Wireless tab and change your security from WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal. Then click Update on the bottom right.
