Korg kontrol - MOD WHEEL and DAMPER

okay.
has anyone figured out how to get the mod wheel to work in logic pro 7? also, how do i get the damper pedal not to 'start and stop' (yeah, that's really useful.. not) but to actually sustain my synth plug-ins...
i read this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=771418&#771418
and it really helped... especially the link to this:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/LogicPro_Control_SurfacesSupport.pdf
(hey apple, maybe next time you should include that little piece of info w/ your product!)
ideally, i'd like record synth parameters (mod wheel and sustain pedal) and have automation control over logic.
IS THERE ANYWAY TO DO THIS?!?!?!?!?
am i alone here? is anybody out there?
so far, i've had to delete the controller icon, record the synthesis stuff, then rescan to enter native korg mode and then do the logic track fader stuff...
there's got to be a more elegant solution than this...
g.

Greetings,
I am curious as to whether you ever were able to get Logic to learn the new assignment for the damper pedal (to sustain notes) while in Native motive.
I cannot get it to work and am using the same specs (Korg Kontrol49, iMac Intel 20, etc). I am able to have Logic learn the new sustain assignment but it still doesn't work (the notes are not really sustained).
Any help would be much appreciated if you were able to figure it out...
Thanks,

  • Issues with Korg Kontrol 49

    Hello there,
I have Kontrol 49 as the master keyboard / Control surface for Logic Studio.
The control surface works well with Logic Pro 8, but the controls of the keyboard (Modulation, Pitch bend, sutain pedal, etc.) do not work at all with the instruments from Logic or any AU instruments.
I have tried to activate those controls from the preferences / MIDI / Control surfaces menu, but i can not find the options to activate them.
I am new in Logic, so i do not know if this is a general problem for this controller or if it's me that i do not know were to go.
    Thank you in advance

This was one of the reasons I never liked Logic's native handling of the Korg keyboards.
The reason it happens is because in native mode, the mod wheel does not send controller #1 info any more, it sends sysex.
However, there is a really good (optimal) solution, and that is to use LC Xmu from OpusLocus. This has native Kontrol/microKontrol support, works much better that the Kontrol native mode in Logic, and the mod wheel and other stuff still works, because it's translated from sysex into regular mod data in realtime.
LC Xmu basically treats the Kontrol as a Logic Control, so you get all the same stuff like parameters on the Kontrol displays, bank switching, instrument/plugin/mixer/transport control, and more.
It is *by far* the best way of using the Kontrol keyboards with Logic. The Kontrol support has been brilliantly implemented - and it's totally customisable. Even things like hitting the mod switch which temporarily exits LC mode so you can use the pads to bash in drum parts - it's just being really well thought out.

*Highly recommended*. I don't start Logic without it, these days...

  • Logic 9 and Korg Kontrol 49 as a control surface

You have got to be kidding me. Logic's implementation a for the Korg Kontrol 49 is a joke.
Let's starts with the basic's. Mod Wheel does not work, sustain pedal does not work.
When I run Reason, the K-49 is a dream, everything works perfectly.
It has got to the point where I remove the K-49 driver from inside the Logic app, so I don't have to delete it from the control surface setup every time I start Logic.
If the Propellorheads can do it right so can Logic/Apple.

    Indeed.
Remove the control surface driver, and use LC Xmu instead. It's the absolute best way to use the Korg controllers with Logic, and has just about every feature you want/need.

  • Late 09 MB Pro 13" now on Mountain Lion keeps crashing (spinning wheel) and getting VERY hot. Even Safe Mode slow to work. Managed a back up last night and wondering should I put the original ios disc back in to take it back to SL. Advice appreciated!

    Hi
For past year or so my mac book has been getting gradually worse. Spinning wheel, and overheating, last night I had trouble just getting it to start in Safe Mode (been using the on/off button a lot lately!)
Problem may be related to media - iMovie followed by iPhoto are the most likely programs to bring everything to a stop but not always.
I'm not an expert although I did figure out how to re install the operating system from the partition with help from this forum a couple of months ago but it didn't fix the problem.
The iOS is Mountain Lion (via Lion)
I managed to do a back- up last night and now wondering if I should re- install Snow Leopard from the original discs that came with the laptop.
Got a lot of media on there (replaced the 250gb drive with a  Samsung 1tb a while back which is less than half full.
Never had to use any of my back-ups before so:
If I re install the original operating system will I be able to be selective in what I put back on later?
    and -
Will there be any issues putting a Mountain Lion back-up into a Snow Leopard iOS?
A lot of whats there isn't needed but don't want to lose it completely.
    Advice appreciated thanks

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU|I/O' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the window will be empty. If you get output like this:
    kernel[0] <Debug>: disk0s2: I/O error
the boot drive is failing, or there's some other hardware fault in the storage subsystem.
If you get output like this:
    kernel[0] <Debug>: ** GPU Debug Info Start **
    kernel[0] <Debug>: ** GPU Debug Info End **
there's a fault in the graphics processor or logic board. The two kinds of output are not mutually exclusive, but if you get both, a logic-board fault is likely.

  • Repeatedly getting stuck on spinning wheel and grey screen, even after multiple re-installs of the OS

Ok, so running Lion on a MacBook, (2010 i think) and the OS got corrupted(stuck on spinning wheel and grey screen on boot)
Tried to repair the disk via disk utility using an install CD, no go, couldn't repair, so, did a clean install.
New install went fine, computer worked for about 3 days and then stuck on the spinning wheel again.
suspecting physical damage to the harddrive, I installed the OS to an external, and booted from there. Worked for a couple days and then stuck on the spinning wheel.
I have repeated the process 5 times now, each time it works for a little and then craps out again.
    What's going on?
as a note, when I say it gets stuck on the spinning wheel, I have left it for 12 hours trying to boot to no avail.

The Apple Hardware Test doesn't always detect all errors.
Next time you get the gray screen/spinning wheel, try booting into the Safe Mode to see if it will boot.
Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • My computer has been getting the pin wheel and moving very slow since the i downloaded yosemite

Whenever i have a video playing from my internet browser it causes my computer to pin wheel and go into thinking mode with all of my apps that are open. It moves very slow and i have to force quit everything and reboot my computer to make it act normal. this all started after the software update. Any suggestions>

Mine has been moving extremely slow, too.  I had a problem downloading and installing Yosemite and after many conversations with Apple Care, the solution was to remove the 3rd party RAM I had just installed prior to the upgrade.  That solved the download/install problem, but now it's slow as anything.  I opened my activity monitor and sure enough, the memory pressure is at full load so I have to install more memory.  The trick is to make sure it's truly compatible.
Have you checked your activity monitor's memory report?

  • Using Logic X-Mod Wheel not being received.

Im having an issue with the mod wheel info on passing to Logic X. Its not m¥ controller because it works in Pro Tools.
Odd ly if I assign another controller with the same CC number , Mod. info can be recorded ( but not from the Mod wheel )
    Thansk, GF

Not sure exactly how this happened but there was one command called Jog Wheel. I removed that and the Mod Wheel started working. Thanks ErikSimon as this was found in the Controller Assignment window.

  • Mod Wheel not changing Articulation ID

I'm using the Samson Carbon 61 keyboard controller to program drums with Drum Kit Designer. The decice is working correctly. But when using the GM + Mod Wheel for Hi Hat control, the Mod Wheel doesn't make any changes in the Articulation ID parameter. I already checked and the Mod Wheel is sending the corresponding CC#1 (Modulation) messages to the software correctly. Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Not Edgar, but...
DrumKit Designer uses Articulation ID's to control the HiHat Open/Closed amount. Switching to GM+ does indeed work the Open/Closed amount here on F#1, G#1 and A#1 notes with the Mod Wheel. It works regardless of MIDI transmission channel and regardless of the Instrument track MIDI Channel.
You may note that playing say an F#1 with the Mod Wheel on Max will give you an open Hat sound, but moving the ModWheel back to zero will not give you a "pedal closing" hat sound. You have to play the note again.
If the controller device is correctly sending MIDI CC1, the OP may want to switch DKD for the EXS24 after loading the desired kit and setting the GM+ in DKD. You could then open up the EXS Editor Groups pane and watch check that they are being selected as you play a note repeatedly whilst moving the Mod Whl.

  • How can I add a mod wheel?

I've got a Yamaha P-120 keyboard which I use as a controller for Logic. It's a really nice keyboard that I love playing on, but it doesn't have a mod wheel on it, and I'd really like to be able to send modulation data into Logic to take advantage of sophisticated sample libraries. Is there some way to add just that functionality?
One thing I thought of is getting an expression pedal, which the P-120 supports, enabling it to send expression data into Logic. Does Logic have some way to remap the incoming expression data to modulation data? Any other ideas? Thanks.

Never having used a pedal, I can only guess, but here goes:
First make sure your your pedal is plugged into your keyboard and your key board into your computer.
Then create a physical in object in the environment if there isn't already one there.
Next, attach a monitor object to the sum output of the physical in object and try using your pedal. You should see the monitor respond accordingly, displaying series of 3 numbers. Pay close attention to those numbers.
Now hook up the output of your monitor to a tranformer object and set the transformer's mode of operation to 'apply operation and let non corresponding values through'. Then set the transformer condition section to Control and the first 2 numbers to those your monitor outputs, leaving the 3rd field as thru.
Set the operation section to Control, fix 1, fix 1, again leaving the third field blank, and hook the object up to the instrument you want to control, or better still to the seq input.
    That should be just yummy!

  • My iPod nano 2nd edition has died on me. I can press on menu and centre of the wheel and the apple logo comes on for seconds, then I get a glimpse of the menu list then the screen goes dead. What can I do? Can anyone help please?

MY iPod Nano 2nd generation iPod has died on me. I've charged it both by connecting to my laptop and also separately. I press the centre wheel and menu and the apple logo appears for a few seconds, then I get a glimpse of the menu then it disappears again. I have tried everything even leaving it plugged into the power for about four hours but it made no difference. What can I do?

Probably not a good sign especially given the age of the device.  Are you able to get it into Disk Mode long enough so that you can restore it in iTunes?

Otherwise, it might be time to have the iPod serviced or replaced.

  • Mod Wheel controls fader, not modulation???

When using the mod wheel on a M-Audio keystation 61es through a Roland SI-24 on Logic Pro7.1, the mod wheel doesn't affect any plug-in parameters (cut-off, etc). Insted it changes the fader on Audio Track 2 and Audio Instrument 6. Any help?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in safe mode.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    for k in /Sy*/L*/Ex*/{,.?}*.kext; do test -f "$k/Contents/Info.plist" && /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print :CFBundleIdentifier" "$_" | egrep -qv "apple|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|CalDigit|HighPoint|hp-fax|JMicron|print|SoftRAID|stex" && echo $k; done | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    Repeat with this line:
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 4
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, Steps 1-4 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • Automating Mod wheel data after midi input

    Hi all,
So what ive done is create a Bodyrox style patch on the ES2 and linked the mod wheel using the routing to cutt off 1+2 and Env3 release. I have inputed my midi via piano roll but not want to add the automation for the mod wheel so that I can open and close the feed to the cut offs and release through out the piece.
I have a feeling I am over looking something really obvious, but isn't it always the way!
    Regards Craig

It's even easier to record Hyper Draw:
Record over the existing MIDI region and move the Mod wheel... you'll record the CC data in Hyper Draw mode, which you can view in the Piano Roll by clicking on the Hyper Draw button (bottom left of Piano Roll).
Here you can fine edit the Hyper Draw info if needed.
    Hope that helps

  • Help...How To Assign Mod Wheel To Open Close Wah in Logic

I assigned the wah pedal in the guitar pedalboard to a track. I can see the parameter for Open and Close, or "pedal state" as something you can automate in the arrange window. But how can one assign your mod wheel to this effect?
    Thanks for any help...

Activate the learn function. Rock the pedal, then move the mod wheel. Close the learn window.
