Korg padkontrol with logic surround panning?

Has anybody used the Korg padKontrol X-Y controller pad built into the unit - to sucessfully control surround speaker panning in Logic Pro?  My intial thoughts are that it should work through learn midi controls in Logic but was interested to see if anybody has sucessfully used the controller in this context?

Has nobody tried this?

7.2 is suppose to fix the 7.1 problem (as below) but it don't!
More Control Surface Support: The M-Audio iControl to the Frontier TranzPort, Tascam FW-1082 and US-2400, JLCooper boards, and even the Korg MicroKONTROL now works as a control surface in Logic 7.2 A new display in the mixer helps you keep track of what you’re controlling.

The mK either works in Native mode (which is what the control surface support docs mean) and in this mode, its internal scenes are ignored.
Or you can use the regular mode, but the Logic scenes aren't terribly good.
I'm using the mK in 7.1 in both modes without problems, so what exactly is the problem you are having?

  • Yamaha MO8 and Korg Volcas with Logic Pro X- recommendations for mixer and audio interface

I plan to use Logic Pro X to access and configure the patch list for my Yamaha MO8 workstation. The Steinberg software I downloaded previously didn't work and never allowed me to configure the sounds. From what I've heard, I was told to use a cheap mixer or a Audio/MIDI interface (like the Scarlett 2i2 or 4i4). The Yamaha MO8 will be used as a master and has MIDI IN, OUT, and THRU. I also have the Korg Volca synths to use as slaves (they only have the MIDI IN port), and plan to connect them to the MIDI THRU on the keyboard. I already have the Yamaha USB driver installed, and the Mac recognizes the device. I also have the Portmidi app and wonder if that will allow me to see the patch list (with the actual names, not numbers).
What mixer and audio/MIDI interface do you recommend to use the Yamaha MO8 and the Korg Volcas? Just to be clear, I don't want to use software synths, but would like to use the external instruments to get the audio (which I know can be selected through the Environment Panel on Logic Pro X).

Anything with 2 audio inputs and 2 MIDI outs.
-Out HP jack of Volca-1/8 to 1/4 adapter into Audio interface 1 (For any that are stereo use both 1 and 2 and use a Y splitter in addition to 1/8 to 1/4 adapters.
-Midi out from interface to Midi in of volca (Or buy a USB to MIDI interface for about $35)
-When starting up the volcas hold down the "Memory button" the LED will tell you what MIDI channel it is set to, you can change it if you wish)
-Create external MIDI track and set it to the same channel as the Volca (Only if you want to do sequencing in the DAW, if thee Volca sequencer is handling it then not necessary)
-Patch together the Volcas via the "synch out/Synch in" jacks to insure they are synched
-Record them all together or one at a time, depending on how many simultaneous tracks your interface can handle.

  • How do I get the Korg NanoKontrol to work with Logic Studio?

I just bought a Korg NanoKontrol control surface to use with Logic Studio but it isn't working right. I can get the faders and pan to work in one scene but the transport controls don't work in any scene. If anyone knows anything about how to get it to work please let me know.

Hey Scrooge, why the attitude? Did anyone here mistreat you? And why hijack the thread?
Anyway, if you loose settings minutes after they worked, I would say the hardware may be shaky. Or the cabling. Or the operators' skills.
Ambient8 has gracefully and concisely pointed the way, and if something is not working just describe what and how it is, instead of complaining (on somebody else's thread) to people who voluntarily try to offer help & solutions.
    Ambient8:
+"Pay special attention to "Assigning Key Commands to Control Surfaces" on page >164+
+The rest need to be set up as a control surface by using the Learn (Command+L) function to assign faders to tracks and knobs to pans, etc.+
+See the Logic Pro 8 Control Surfaces Support guide in the Help menu for info on controller assignments. Chapter 2 "Customizing Controller Assignments" has the info assigning controllers to Logic Pro parameters."+
If you say I did exactly as described on these pages, and all your settings seemed to disappear, I can only assume that either something is wrong with your Logic prefs, the logic.cs file or the CS itself.

  • Is it possible to bounce 5.1 Surround sound with Logic Pro 7.1?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to create a song and bounce it in 5.1 Surround sound with Logic Pro 7.1.1 without extra software and hardware?
    Thanks in advance!

This will let you make a DVD-Audio disc in Mac. It's free. It is command line only, and not for non-savy computer users.
There are other commerical programs out there that make DVD-Audio discs. Search google for DVD-Audio OS X. These programs cost $100+

  • DVD-A surround with Logic pro... Troubles

    Hi everyone
I'm producing and mixing an album with logic pro 8 in surround mode 5.1
In the window bounce, I can create a DVD-A... Cool, but I cannot read and test it with the dvd player include in my iMac.
I want to create a DVD-A who can be read on all DVD players and control it before duplication for the sale.
I've tried to import the surround files into Waveburner but it's impossible, only 2 channels files are accepted.
    How can I do ?
Is someone can help me ?
    Thanks a lot

Hi. I believe DVD-A is still not a free protocol, and DVD-A players are rare. and though Logic can make DVD-A, there is no program for the Mac that can actually play them. I'll try a little search, there has been a comprehensive thread on exactly this topic - though more than a year ago, if I remember correctly...

It's usually not about if the hardware is compatible with LPX.. It's if it is compatible with Mountain Lion that matters... as LPX needs 10.8.4 to run...
So, if the Nano series is compatible with Mountain Lion, you should be good to go..

  • UltraBeat and Korg PadKONTROL

    First, Happy New Year!!!
I am trying to control UtraBeat with my Korg padKontrol.
I currently am getting the pads set up the way I want. However, anytime I try to get the 2 knobs or XY to control anything, like pitch or decay, I am not getting anywhere.
The PadKONTROL has assign buttons for the XY pad and 2 knobs. Then it has 8 pads that I can touch plus these mentioned assign buttons to change the XY pad or knobs to 8 different control settings, like pitch, decay, volume, pan, and so on... I want these to work on each selected voice in Ultrabeat individually. Does the settings on Ultrabeats midi controller assignments A, B, C, & D work on a voice per voice basis?
Some of what follows is PadKONTROL jive for any here using it, but Ultrbeat pros, please read on as well:)
On the PadKONTROL I will touch KNOB 1 ASSIGN + <PITCH>. Then in Ultrabeat I will set MIDI CONTROLLER ASSIGNMENT A to PITCH. Then, select ASSIGNMENT A's LEARN function. Then turn KNOB 1 on the padKONTROL and Logic recognizes it and seems to accept it. However when I select the correct voice in UltraBeat, trigger it and turn the knob on the PadKONTROL... I don't see or hear any pitch changes.
Maybe this lies somewhere in Logic's environment (still a noob at that). Maybe I need to assign a specific note to the knobs for UltraBeat to use it as I want. (I haven't located the documentation on this if there was any.)
Does anyone have any insight on using them together as I am trying to do.
    THANKS!!

Which drum instrument are you triggering with padKontrol?
I assume you've selected whichever it is on an instrument track's input, and that same tracks output is 1-2.
All you need do now is to create a Scene which maps pK's triggers to the instrument, or use one of the default Scenes which most closely matches your instrument, such as DFH or BFD or use one of the GM Scenes - 7 or 8 I think - and that should get you started. Just hold down the scene button and press 7, for example.
I recently purchased a Korg padKontrol MIDI studio controller to use as a drum machine
At the risk of telling you something you already know, you do know that padKontrol in itself doesn't create sounds? It just triggers an instrument installed within Logic.

  • Surround panning and automation

I thought I posted this already, but I'm not seeing it.
In the automation windows for channels, the surround paramaters that show up are radius, angle, and center. The manual makes a tiny mention of surround values in XY, but that's only mentioned under control surfaces.
Is there a way to do surround panning in logic with simple LR/front/back instead of their convoluted thing? Their option is almost unusable.

    Hi.
    OK,now I understand the question.
You want rubber band parameters in values of X and Y so you can draw in the angle and surround diversion(radius),by referencing X and Y values.Ok.
If you want a quick and dirty way to do this, you'll have to follow me into the dark underworld of the ENVIRONMENT LAYER...
You'll have to create a fake "joystick" kind of controller:
Create 2 faders which output the X and Y values you want.Click on their icons so you can see them in the arrange page. You can assign any numbers to these faders, say 0-100,for 0-100 percent for the center distance, and 0-360 for the angle.
If you need to use the mouse to position the track,Hook these faders up to an X/Y matrix object. This is to control, with your mouse pointer, the position in the x/y field, similar to the surround panner, but looking at your x/y values.
You'll need after that,to make two transformer filters that will turn your x/y data into Logic's angle, radius and LFE MIDI CC values. These values can be found if you hook up a Monitor object to any surround track, and fiddling the panner to get the MIDICCs for each parameter.I cannot remember what they are,as I don't normally use this method since version 4.8.
Hook THAT up to the track, and you're off to the movies!!!
IF you do not want to venture nto the environment world, then:
The parameters come up in the Track Automation as like with all the other possible automatable parameters in Logic. As long as the track is surround, you can manipulate those angles, radius and lfe thru the automation track, just like when you use the panning automation view.
You'll see them on top of the track as radius and angle.to me this would be the easier way of writing the automation instead of messing around with the surround panner or the environment workaround to see x/y values.
These parameters replace the normal stereo pan parameters in the automation view.
    Cheers

  • PadKontrol with SysEx

    Hello:
I'm trying to put together an environment where I can use the PadKontrol by Korg as a beat machine. I want the lights to chase to the beat and I still want to be able to play a particular instrument whether it's selected in the arrange list or not.
So far I've only managed to learn that I need to use SysEx and that I can do so with "faders" in the environment while the PadKontrol is in Native Mode. Beyond that I can't figure anything else out. There just doesn't seem to be any information on it.
I have seen YouTube videos that clearly show people using this device in such a way but they're almost always using Live or Max/MSP. I am certain we can do it with Logic but, as I've mentioned, I'm running into a terrible lack of documentation.
    Thanks.

    Has nobody tried this?

I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop? My sound is running through the Saffire Pro 40 Interface (Focusrite) into external speakers with powered amps.
Also, When I record I am hearing little pops in the system. I have checked all of my meters and they are not clipping. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop?

Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?

    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.

Sorry Mark, you are out of luck as it does not do that - it works the same as L8. The way I would achieve that with more accuracy and control would be to route all the tracks you want to fade to a Bus then use volume automation on the bus. To do this you will need to add a standard audio track, then re-assign it using (Control Click on the track header) to the Bus track. You can then automate volume/plugins etc on the Bus track.

  • I can't sync my Baby HUI with logic

I recently purchased a Mackie Baby HUI control surface to use with Logic Express 9.
First, just to clear up a few things. I have downloaded the most recent Logic update 9.1.7. I have the most current drivers for my MIDI interface.
So, i've followed the instructions in the Logic manual about a dozen times right now for setting up a Baby HUI. When i do this all of the buttons and pots function as they are supposed to; pans, sends, transport, master select, solo, mute. They all work. The only thing that doesn't work are the faders. If i start Logic with all of the faders in the up position it will move them down to the bottom on its own. However, if i move the faders there is no corresponding fader movement within Logic. If i have volume automation written into the track the faders will not follow the automation.
I have checked the Baby HUI in another software DAW and the faders work great (although this other DAW doesn't have support as they are missing the access to the transport and master section buttons.
What can i do within Logic to get it to recognize the fader movement? I've already reinstalled Logic 3 times and reset the computer today and none of that seems to help.
