KPIs into BPA Suite

Hi
There was a confirmation in this Forum that KPIs can be linked with Process Models within BPA.
Link, Rules and KPI
Can anybody help me with some more details on this pl

Thanks Ashish,
I checked the charsets and tried to update the database charset to match it with BPA suite documentation. However, could not update it as the documentaton charset was not super set of database charaset.
However, after restarting the computer and database the issue got resolved.

  • BPA Suite 12c  ?

    Hi friends.
I would like to know, If Oracle think to release a new version of Oracle BPA Suite in Oracle BPA Suite 12c
    I hope your answers, regards.

    Hi Carlos,
I agree with Dan, I don't believe that there will be a BPA 12c. The agreement that Oracle had with IDS Scheer has ended and from rumors that I heard they didn't and will not renew it.
As you may have noticed Oracle has build into BPM 12c some business architecture capabilities to create BA models and artifacts such as enterprise process maps, value chain models and strategy models. You can create your KPIs and roll them up to your value chains. And of course you can run some BA reporting such as process criticality reports and value chain KPI reports.

  • BPM Suite vs BPA suite

    Hello All,
Can any one tell me the difference between these 2 products and for what purpose they used.
It would be great if you explain using real time scenario.
    Thanks,
    AB

Oracle BPA Suite is a tool that is very suitable for enterprise wide business process modeling and enterprise architecture. It allows you to model your organization, strategy and processes.
This is useful when defining strategy, or to comply with laws that require you to model your business processes. It offers dependency matrices between different diagram types, simulation, definition of KPI's etc etc.
You can model automated processes, manual processes etc.
If you want to actually execute a process model that you defined in Oracle BPA you can choose to execute that model in either BPM Suite (BPMN) or SOA Suite (BPEL). You hand over the lowest level of process model to IT, who will use these tools to add implementation details.
BPM suite has a number of features that are available in BPA Suite as well, like simulation. But it is totallly focussed at the project at hand, not at your total enterprise.
To summarize: your architects and business analysts can use BPA Suite to model as-is and to-be situations. When you focus on the implementation of one business process, BPM Suite is your tool.

  • BAM feedback into BPA

I'm just learning BPA (10.1.3.4) and BAM, but I already know that I will need the ability to monitor my process after deployment and capture information that I can then use to refine my model. Working from the BPA side I went looking for a way to "import" information into my current model, but I did not find anything directly.
I found some capabilities that look like they may work, but they will not be easy for a business analyst (BA).
    # Use Scripts: \\      It appears that there are JavaScript APIs that would allow me to read an XLS spreadsheet and modify the attributes of a model, such as probability or time to perform. Can anyone confirm this?
    # Use Import/Export \\      Here the process is exported in XML, defined by the ARIS-Export.dtd. Another process theoretically could update this XML file with the necessary changes and I believe that all the BA needs to do is import the newest version and rerun the simulation.
The issue I see with both of these solutions is that once the BA changes the model to fit the new data the process that builds the updates for BPA must be updated to reflect the changes in the model. This does not appear to me to be a task that is suitable for the BA.
Have I missed anything? Any simple examples around that I can use to get started?

    Hi there,
For large amounts of attributes it might be inconvenient to input the values manually in BPArchitect. Basically there are two options to maintain attributes in Excel:
*1.     Use the "Export of attributes" and "Import of attributes" report.*
By default this report contains only attributes that are pre-filled by the BPArchitect (e.g. "Name"). In order to maintain additional attributes like "Description", "Remark/Example" and "Person responsible" you need to prepare those reports. Put at least one character as attribute value, so that the export recognizes the attribute as "maintained" and includes it into the export file.
    * Define the attributes that should be maintained externally.
    * Use the Attribute Wizard to enter a dummy character for each attribute (e.g. a <blank> or <.>). Right-click on the group you would like to maintain the attributes for. Choose between folder-, diagram-, object- and relationship-attributes. The selection can be limited on folder structures, diagrams and objects. Select the attributes you would like to maintain and fill them with the dummy character. Take into account that already maintained attributes will be overwritten without any chance to get them back. Therefore it is recommended to create a backup first.
    * Press "Finish" to complete the Attribute Wizard.
    * Right-click on the group and export the attributes to Excel (Evaluate/Start report/Export of attributes).
    * Maintain the attributes in the new report.
    * Right-click on the database into which you want to import the translated attributes. Select Evaluate/Start report and run the report "Import of translated attributes". The wizard guides you through the relevant steps.
*2. Use the Excel process generator.*
Instead of using the 'Export of attributes' and 'Import of translated attributes' reports you can use the process generator to maintain your attributes. It is run on a macro called "Open Excel table in Process Generator" (Evaluate -> Start macro...). The export can be performed on objects, groups and models.
Example: Use ARIS-Find to get a list of all functions within your group. Select these functions and run the macro as described above. MS Excel opens and the Oracle BPA Suite Process Generator table is created with contents (see the Oracle BPA Suite Process Generator toolbar). Press the "?"-Button for a more detailed introduction. With "Edit columns" you are able to enrich the generated table with further attributes (e.g. description and so on).
According to the documentation you have to use the macro "ProcessGenerator import" for importing respectively synchronizing the models or objects with BPArchitect. However, if you follow the steps described in the doc you will notice that you can't choose this particular macro in 10.1.3.4. Therefore right-click on the appropriate group in BPArchitect and select the menu option "Import -> XML files". It initiates a merge operation between the old and new attribute values using the macro "Import Process Generator table (XML)". Furthermore the Excel process generator allows you to create simple EPCs in Excel. See the help for further details.

  • What is the best way to integrate an ER diagram into BPA?

    Hi,
In the context of a conversion project, trying to understand what is the lighter and easier way to import an ER diagram into BPA. The tools I'm currently using allow me to generate any xml/text data from current models... but trying to understand the minimal effort so the main semantic of models get kept (not a big deal if fonts, positioning, layout things are lost on the way)
Attached is an example problem, would be great to see what textual representation denoting the same semantic can be accepted by BPA
    My example model:
    Product(prod_id (pk), name) ---* Order({prod_id, cust_id} (pk), quantity_ordered) * --- Customer (cust_id (pk), cust_name)
A customer can have 0 to many orders
A product can be ordered by 0 to many customers
A order is made for 1 product and 1 customer, and for each order we know the quantity of the product ordered
if someone has already run integration of large ERds into BPA would be fantastic help to have some hints/feedbacks on your approach best practices
    kind regards
    Frederic

There is a thrid party product that con convert data models between most tools, including BPA. You can find information about it here: http://www.reischmann.com/. If you just want to migrate the main objects and their characteristics and the diagram is not as important you could look at using Excel as a data transfer medium. The report "Import Data in Excel Format" allows you bring information into BPA quickly, however it is a one time conversion and won't accomodate updates. You could also look at the macro "Process Generator" which also allows for objects to be imported from an Excel SS. Either of the SS solutions will require some configuration.

  • Sequence diagram lifeline in Oracle BPA Suite

I try to create sequence diagram in Oracle Busines Process Architect 11g. I use type of model "UML Sequence diagram". But in palette there is no object with type "Lifeline". How can I add lifelines to my sequence diagram?

i guess you are clicking on file>new>model , or something like that.
y dont you first go to designer/explorer , make sure you see the navigator frame, and click on "local" in navigator frame to start the local database first. adn then login to any database to create a model/group.
In case it does not even happen then, and it still says unable to start the local server, check out the logs in <Oracle BPA Suite>\LocalServer\log directory and check what the error is.

  • BPA suite 11g and Jdev 10g

    hello,
BPA11G is also compatible with JDEV10 ? I can use Jdev 10g with BPA suite 11g or not ? or we must install Jdev 11g ? (send a document about this)
    BR,

    Hi,
please install the JDeveloper 11g and apply the newest "BPA Extension for JDeveloper". Install the BPA Extension using the JDeveloper Update Center. From the JDeveloper menu choose Help > Check for Updates. Browse and pick the pcbpel_bundle.zip found in the Oracle BPA Suite 11g Addons.
It is necessary to keep the JDeveloper and BPA Suite version consistent, especially for the major releases 10 or 11. This is because in 11g a BPEL process is part of a SOA Composite, which means the technical concept has been changed as well.

  • Scope of simulation in BPA suite

    Hi,
What is the scope of simulation in BPA suite.
    * If we provide processing time and/or cost involved in each fuctional lock, then while simulation, we can get an analysis based on this.
    * Simulation can identify few weak points in your business process. But how is a weak point identified. Any rule available for this?
Apart from this what is the significance of Simulation in BPA. Can it provide any other useful inference or suggestion, that can help improving the process.
    Thanks,
    Vishnupriya

    Hi Vishnupriya,
"how do we find the critical path using BPA suite." You can perform a cost and/or a time analysis - it depends on your preferences. A disadvantage of the cost analysis is, that the cost attributes can only be defined for functions. It is not possible to specify relation-dependent costs (e.g. different costs if a function is performed by a manager or a clerk). Below I am concentrating on a time analysis.
    a) Identify bottlenecks
After you performed the simulation you need to analyse the statistics. Each object type has its own simulation attributes - check the help section under "What simulation-relevant object types exist" to get further information. For comparison the following categories/attributes are very useful indicators to identify bottlenecks:
    * Processes (cumul.): Created processes, Completed processes, Process folders in static wait state and Process folders in dynamic wait state
    * Events (cumul.): Activations
    * Functions (cumul.): Process folders in dynamic wait state
    * Processes (det.): Throughput time (min.), Throughput time (max.)
Hint: Increasing throughput times, high dynamic wait time sums and a high degree of utilization (for human resources) are indicators of bottlenecks.
    b) Identify modeling faults
E.g.: If you have a gateway in your model and the "Process folders received" is always equal to "Process folders waiting" it means that the gateway cannot be passed. Normally it indicates a deadlock situation and you should check that each split in your model is properly joined. The issue can also be considered at the "Degree of activation", which will be equal to zero. Use the semantic check to ensure that your model-format is correct.
"how to do this comparison"Compare the relevant attributes (times, costs) of your As-Is and To-Be models. You have several options to perform the comparison:
    a) create charts of both simulation runs
    b) check the simulation statistics of both simulation runs
    c) use the ARIS report functionality or create a user-defined report to extract the simulation results

  • JDeveloper to BPA Suite Error

    Hi there,
when I try to save my model to the bpa server in JDeveloper I get the following error: (Update BPMN Model checked)
java.lang.Exception: script ModelImport.js, line 141: Jdeveloper proposed model available in Oracle Business Process Architect, please accept or reject the proposed model. (ModelImport.js#141)

Has anybody had the same error? Is there a solution or workaround?

Have you teested teh IIOP connectivity with the session shell
(sess_sh)? Make sure that this works. The Connection URL will
    look like:
    sess_iiop://machine_ip_address:port:SID
If you are going through the listener (and the listener must be
configured to listen for IIOP) or like this:
    sess_iiop://machine_ip_address:port
If you are going directly to the MTS Dispatcher port. You can see
what this port is by using the following command:
    LSNRCTL services
    See which port the presentation
    oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer
is on and use that port number. You do not use a SID when
connecting directly to the MTS dispatcher port since an MTS
dispatcher is specific to a given instance.

  • OracelBPA.exe - Install Evaluation Version - BPA Suite

I've downloaded the evaluation version of the BPA Suite and intended to install it with the embedded olite to see what it can do. The installation instructions say to install using OracleBPA.exe which is not part of the download.
    1) Where do get that from? or
    2) How can I install the Evaluation version (I have the installation document, just think I need to get the process started?)
I'm on Windows Server if that matters... and successfully downloaded and installed the BPM Eval. trying to figure out how these work together or not...

    Installed, and running.

  • Oracle BPA Suite Install

    Hi,
I've done some browsing on BPA Suite today and found some great documents around it and would like to download BPA to get my hands dirty but can't seem to find any downloads for it.
On one of the documents I came accross I found a link to a download:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bpa/index.html
Can someone maybe let me know where we can download it or is it part of the BPM Suite Extention?
    Tanks in advance...

I am also interesting in knowing when the new version will be posted. It would be help to remove non-working (expired ) versions to save people from 2 hrs of research./ trial and error.
