Kpro vs. ArchiveLink

Hi,
I´ve read a lot about ArchiveLink and Kpro. I understand that Kpro gives more granular possibilities then ArchiveLink alone. But what is the key benefit using Kpro. I´ve read the manual for Kpro already which tells that Kpro provides some kind of meta layer and so on. But I just want to store documents and link them with e.g. orders. Maybe I did not understand the concept of Kpro. Another question. Is Kpro essential for Records Management or can RM deal with ArchiveLink as well?
Kind regards Matthew

Hi Mathew,
Couple of key kPro highlights that i can think of:
- Allows n:n assignment('n' originals attachment with 'n' additional files)
- Connection to index servers can be established to perform full text search
- Can carry out redlining functions for 2D,3D files  if docs are checked in kPro
For improved understanding on kPro, browse http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sapportals.km.docs/library/netweaver/netweaver-developers-guide-2004/knowledge%20provider.ca
For improved understanding on Archivelink, browse http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sapportals.km.docs/library/netweaver/netweaver-developers-guide-2004/archive%20link.ca
For your second question, the below thread may throw more light

  • Archive Link and external URL Link

    Hi,
we use Archive Link, NO own documents (like CV01N,..). We want to define different document types (oac2) and link them to via url to an external webserver, the user should see the doc in the normal attachment list.
    Doc Typ    url
    DOC1        http://www.xsfd.wer/show?...
    DOC2        http://www.ssdfs.ver/show?
In oac0 (definition content rep) there is an subtyp called "URL", looks like it could be this kind of rep? All  solutions and hints I found where based on DMS/KPRO not ArchiveLink. I don't want to use link to external Document via GOS.
    Regards,

    Dear all,
no, I found no solution to access automatically! And I was not able to find a definition of the "URL" Repository.

  • DOC ID / Links of Custom Declaration PDF-Documents

    Hi folks,
we're receiving PDF Documents from the Customs which are being archived using KPRO and ArchiveLink customizing ...
Now we're unable to find any entries (like DOC ID) we need e.g. to find the Documents using OAM1 in the table TOA01. In fact the whole table is empty though the PDF Documents definetly are being archived correctly.
However the table /SAPSLL/CORPHIO seems to contain extacly the entries we are looking for. But we have no idea how to link them to automatically appear in the TOA01 and to get the OAM1 to find the archived documents ...
    Any ideas or suggestions ?

  • Configuring KPRO for generic object services

    Hello,
I have a requirement where I have to configure KPRO as the storage for generic object services. We are using the generic object services for materials and hence using the Business object BUS1001. Please let me know of how to do the same or if we have any documents for configuring the Generic object services and KPRO please provide me the same.
    Regards

    Hi,
i reply to the question you posted in my thread:
I solved the request without using Kpro. Kpro ist just a more comfortable way in managing documents. But using ArchiveLink and GOS is all you need if you just want to upload documents and view them in a linked transaction. I would be able to give you a better help if you would give a short introdcution in what you plan to do in detail.
    kind regards Matthew

  • ArchiveLink

    Hi,
    This is the scenario:
An Incoming mail with a PDF attachment is received in SAPconnect (SMTP). The attachment to the mail is stored as a KPRO document. The physical and logical ids and the class (SOFFPHIO) can be obtained. The requirement is to create a link between the attachment (pdf) and a BOR object so that it is visible through the use of the generic object services (GOS), either as an attachment or a business document.  It is not known how to establish the link between the attachment and the generic object services. It is presumed that the document needs to be checked out or moved to a repository as defined in OAC3. An ar_object key must be obtained and an archivelink connection must be created. Can a link be established in the GOS services without having to move the attachment from where it is stored in the SAP system and if so how should this be done?
Any pointers in the right direction will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Freddie

    Hi,
We managed to resolve the issue.
    Thanks for the response.
    Solution:
By using the function BINARY_RELATION_CREATE we are able to create a link which can then be used in GOS without having to move the file from KPRO.

  • Connect content of archive link with newly created kpro document

    Hi all,
i hope this the right plase to post my question. Unfortunatelly i did not find any SAP Records Management Topic.
    The issue is:
i am able to create a new document in Records Management with the FM:
    SRM_DOCUMENT_CREATE
But,  what  is not realy clear for me, how can i connect content of archive link with newly created kpro document.
    Thanks and Best regards,
    AT.

    Hi Attila,
there is a difference between SRM_DOCUMENT_CREATE and ArchiveLink Documents.
If you use the SAP Standard Service Provider for Documents SRM_SP_DOCUMENT this
will refere to so called KPRO-Documents (KnowledgeProvider). This is totally different to
    common ArchiveLink scenarios.
If you would like to use ArchiveLink Docs with attributes, there is the property unification in WebAS 6.40 available.

  • Archivelink and scan client software

    Hello,
We are setting up a simple archivelink system: linking scanned invoices to FI documents in R3.
The storage is in the R3 database and since we don't have such a mass volume of documents, we are satisfied with the standard archielink solution and we think that we can manage without buying an expensive third party archiving tool.
The only problem we encounter is in the scanning part: When using a third party tool (like Ixos for example) the image is linked directly from the scan client to R3 and is linked to the object.
I can't manage sending commands to my scanner, it seems that those parameters have to be maintained in 'applications' part of AL customizing.
If anyone has any hints or tips on how to do this, please post them here and I will reward them with lots of reward points !
    Thank you very much
    Ronen

    Hi,
if you work with the content server or a R3 database you use the HTTP interface. SAP Content Server and R3 Database repository don't support the OLE archiveLink scenario. What you could do is the following:
    1. Early archiving: you scan into the file system. You write a report that is archiving the documents via the SCMS API of Kpro. Then you start the workflow.
    2. Late archiving: you scan into the file system with a list barcode -> filename. Then you write a report which is calling BAPI_BARCODE_SENDLIST and the images are linked with the BO object.
The reports have to be planned as jobs.

  • ArchiveLink and Contents Security

    Hi,
This is in reference to ArchiveLink HTTP interface 4.5
From what I have read so far in ArchiveLink related documentation is that although the communication between SAP and and external content server is secure, the content that is exchanged between SAP and external content server is not secured. Is that correct? What can we do to make sure that the content exchanged is also secure and no body can read it (support for encryption, https etc.?)

  • KPro Requirements

    Hello all,
We are looking at implementing KPro and Document Management Systems. This will be a small environment of about 200 total users of which many will not be concurrent so the load will be fairly light.
    I have a couple questions:
    1) What would the requirements for this be, such as 2 seperate servers (1 for KPro and 1 for Content Server), and what hardware sizing would you recommend (cpu, disks, etc).
    2) Are there additional modules we need to implement besides these two items?
    3) Other thoughts and recommendations?
The goal is to size out the servers at this time.
Thank you very much for any input,
    Jason

    Hi Jason
Generally its one of these areas that almost always gets over specced.
Don't get confused with KPRO and content server. KPRO is almost like a layer in SAP that the content server works through so its not a separate server, although you can also use this technology for storing in the SAP database (not recommended for anything other than testing).  The KPRO server can be used for DMS and Archivelink.
In your case, you will only need one content server and this uses the Content Server Software (KPRO) provided by SAP. You can go with single CPU and 1 to 2GB ram, so maybe go 2GB if you are concerned, ram is cheap these days, its not a very processor intensive application. Most companies generally use a SAN or NAS for actually storage and the local machine HDD's are only used for OS and Log files. At least that way you can expand the disk if you run out.
If you plan on using FTR (full text retrieval) you may need a second server for TREX. TREX is a little more processor and ram intensive, but only while its indexing so you can up the ram a little for that if you plan on using it. I'd normally recommend you separate your production TREX and Content Server but you can run dev and QA for both on a single box.
Do a search for the KPRO documentation here and you should be able to get info out of that if there are specifics you are looking at. Searching for the term "content server installation guide" should pick up quite a few matches but check the dates so you don't pick old docs.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

  • How to customize DMS for EH&S using KPRO

    Hi all,
I am triing to configure DMS for EH&S using KPRO. It seems there are some specificities link to EH&S for using DMS with Kpro.
Id like to find documentations and / or help to know the different steps to achieve for configure DMS for EH&S using KPRO.
Anybody can tell me the different steps to do and / or give me some documentations?
    Thanks
    /Ludo

    Hello Ludo,
As Documentum is a separate document storage system, it requires a connector (Standard Interface) to connect to SAP-DMS.
As I am not expert in this field so will not be able to help you but still I have some information like, Documentum will be used as the Main Application & all data & objects will be created or linked to SAP objects in the Background and the Content Services for SAP application integrates the Documentum content management system with the SAP R/3 system. It is an interface to the SAP R/3 system based on SAPu2019s standard DMS and ArchiveLink interfaces.
I think your question is more relevant for DMS forum. May be you can post your theread there, so that you can get right answer or may be on this forum someone else can help you who has worked on this scenario.

  • Documentum Kpro configuration for SAP DMS

    Hi Experts ,
We are planning to use Documentum Content server as the content store for SAP DMS . We want to configure the KPro configuration for this. Can somebody help with the details. We are currently using Documentum SAP archivelink (RFC ) . I know  we can also use Documentum SAP archivelink (HTTP ) . What is the difference between using Documentum SAP archivelink (HTTP) over Kpro configuration.
    Please guide me
    Thanks
    Regi

Thank You Seema and Nitin for your answer.
As I mentioned earlier I am aware of the configuration of the Content Store and othet Data Carrier .
I am also familiar with the regular Documentum SAP archive link (RFC/HTTP).
The new dimension we are bringing to our architecture is adding SAP DMS for SAP PLM and using Documentum as the content store.
We want to use KPRO as the integration configuration for the specific reason of more than 2 originals.
My question to all the gurus out there is did any one use Documentum KPRO configuration with SAP DMS and if so how does that work with ECL viewer .If you are using Archivelink , you need to use Documemntum Viewer to see documents from SAP.
Also any difference in viewing document from a Portal interface
    Thanks

  • Dispute Case attachments: CMS, DMS, RMS, ArchiveLink... Confused!

    Hi,
We're starting to implement SAP Collections & Dispute Mgmt. One of the things that excited our business users on the SAP solution was the ability to attach unlimited (word, pdf, jpg, email, etc) files directly to the Dispute case. However, we have a large volume of disputes and estimate to wish to attach an annual total of ~500,000 files, ~200Gb directly to Dispute cases.
But I'm confused as to the options we have in doing this and the potential pros/cons related to those options. From the documentation I have found, I see references to SAP DMS (Document Management System), SAP CMS (Content Management System), SAP RMS (Records Management System), SAP ArchiveLink, and also SAP integration "3rd party DMS solutions" (whatever those are...)
Is SAP CMS & SAP RMS the same thing?
Has anyone implemented a 3rd party DMS solution? If so, what were the benefits of this over the SAP solutions?
Has anyone else implemented Disputes with a large volume of attachements?
Many thanks in advance for those of you with knowledge & experience in this area,
    JJ
Edited by: James Parkes on Oct 18, 2011 4:13 AM

    Hi,
DisP.Mgt uses RMS as base so when you link objects in UDM_DISPUTE then you already using RMS. Archivelink & CMS are connected to RMS so if you create an archivelink document in UDM_DISPUTE, you would be creating an archivelink document in ARL already.CMS is in the base for managing content. This is done for all RMS objects & would already be set up. What is means is that if you store say a archivelink documetn then meta data is stored in sap DB but content sits in content server. This content server can be SAP own or 3rd-party. Same goes for RMS objects like cases, records, editable documents.
