KPro vs Knowledge Management What is the difference ?

Hi All, I have read up on the ECM on this website, yet i don't really understand what is the difference between Knowledge Management and Knowledge Provider. Is it 2 different ways of implementing the same thing ?
If anyone can help with an example would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Please find required difference
SAP Knowledge Provider(KPro)
=============================
The SAP Knowledge Provider (KPro) is a cross-application and media-neutral information
technology infrastructure within the R/3 Basis System. The modular structure and openness on
which KPro is based is reflected in its modular services and clearly defined interfaces. Its
extensive flexibility means that KPro can be used to process the widest variety of information
types within and relating to documents and document-like objects. For example, administration
and index data, as well as pure content.
Applications that use the SAP Knowledge Provider involve various end users, who in turn have
different requirements. There is therefore no universal interface for accessing KPro services
regarding the following points:
Specific knowledge management functions for end users
Specific terminology for describing the document-like objects within the context of the
individual application
Specific design of work process flows
  Specific design of user interfaces
SAP Knowledge Management
=========================
With its Knowledge Management capabilities, SAP NetWeaveru2122 provides a central, role-specific point of entry to unstructured information from various data sources in the portal. This unstructured information can exist in different formats such as text documents, presentations, or HTML files. Workers in an organization can access information from different source such as file servers, their intranet, or the World Wide Web. A generic framework integrates these data sources and provides access to the information contained in them through the portal.
Knowledge Management functions support you in structuring information and making it available to the correct target audience. These functions include search, classification, and subscriptions (see below): You can use these functions on all content of integrated data sources, as long as the technical conditions are met.
Knowledge Management is a part of SAP Enterprise Portal. The entire functional scope and configuration of Knowledge Management are available in portal iViews.
Functions such as discussions, feedback, and sending items from KM folders by e-mail are integrated into Knowledge Management and enable you to work across role and department borders. In addition, Knowledge Management functions are used in Collaboration, for example, to store documents in virtual rooms.
Knowledge Management supports the SAP NetWeaveru2122 scenario Information Broadcasting. You can use the BEx Broadcaster and Knowledge Management to make business information from SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence available to a wide spectrum of users in the portal. You can store the following BI objects in KM folders:
·        Documents with precalculated reports.
·        Links to BEx Web applications and queries with live data.
Various Knowledge Management functions, such as subscriptions for documents, are available for these items. There is a specially modified user interface for displaying BI items in KM folders. You can also change or extend this interface to meet your requirements.
Hope this helps.

  • Desktop Environment VS Window Manager, what is the difference?

I was wondering about the difference between DE and WM?
It is just like iconize VS minimize or directory VS folder?
So it is the same just more Unix-like or more Windows-like?
    Or there is a difference?

Strictly speaking, a window manager is in charge of managing windows. It draws the decorations (usually just the title bar and borders) and places each window onscreen. It's also in charge of moving and resizing windows. If you run X without a window manager, each window opens, without a border, in the top-left corner of the screen (you can usually use the -geom or --geometry option to pick a default position when running an app), and you can't move or resize them. (Examples: Xmonad, evilwm, Metacity)
Many window managers offer a built-in application launcher, usually by showing a menu when you right-click on the desktop. I prefer to call this a "desktop shell", what Enlightenment calls itself, because it does more than manage windows but is still a single program. (Examples: Fluxbox, Openbox, Window Maker)
A desktop environment is a collection of programs and libraries designed to create an integrated environment. It almost always includes a window manager, with the notable exception of the RoX desktop. The individual parts of a DE can be swapped out if you prefer another program. For example, before XFCE included Thunar, I ran it with Openbox as a WM and RoX as a file manager. (Examples: KDE, XFCE, Étoilé)

  • What's the difference between Screen Sharing and Remote Management?

As the title asks. What is the difference between the two?
Because heres the thing. I set Screen Sharing on in Sharing. Then a few days later I will go back to the Sharing preferences and instead of Screen Sharing being checked. Remote Management is now checked, not Screen Sharing. What's the deal? Is that normal?
I was wondering if it was because I log into my iMac sometimes using my iPhone with that Mocha VNC program. Its the only program I use to remotely control my computer. Is that it?
Any help I can get is appreciated! Thanks!

Remote Management provides support for the additional functionality of Apple Remote Desktop as compared to a standard VNC setup. The options are otherwise identical.

  • IPhoto Managed Library and Referenced Library. What is the difference?

In a reply regarding iphoto TD mentions managed library and referenced library. What is the difference and how do you set them up?

A Managed Library is the default setting, photos are copied into the iPhoto Library on import. In this scenario, iPhoto is responsible for the file management.
A Referenced Library means that iPhoto does not touch the files when you import them. They remain where they were and iPhoto References them in their location.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
*For working with an External Editor*
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Lots of folks are attracted to the idea of a Referenced Library - well I can see my files! But, frankly, unless you're an experienced Mac user I would stay well away. Not infrequently we see folks here complaining that iPhoto has "lost their photos" when what has happened is that they have imported from the Camera Card in Referenced Mode, then erased the card. Even more common, any change in the path the the file - renaming a disk, folder or file - for instance when migrating to a new machine, when trying to make space on the start up disk by moving files off the an external - also causes big problems.
If you really, really want to run a Referenced Library check out Aperture. It has tools that are much stonger in the area - like migrating tools and reconnecting tools.

    TD

  • What's the difference between using a connection pool and a datasource

Howdy. I figure this is a newbie question, but I can't seem to find an
    answer.
In the docs at bea, the datasource docs say
"DataSource objects provide a way for JDBC clients to obtain a DBMS
connection. A DataSource is an interface between the client program and the
connection pool. Each data source requires a separate DataSource object,
which may be implemented as a DataSource class that supports either
    connection pooling or distributed transactions."
In there it says the datasource uses the connection pool, but other than
that, what is the difference between a connection pool and a datasource?

Thanks for the info. I think it makes some sense. But it's a bit greek.
I'm sure it'll make more sense the more I work with it. Thanks.

    Peter,
Here is a more formal definition of a DataSource from the Sun site
"A factory for connections to the physical data source that thisDataSource object
represents. An alternative to the DriverManager facility, a DataSourceobject
is the preferred means of getting a connection. An object that implementsthe
DataSource interface will typically be registered with a naming servicebased
on the JavaTM Naming and Directory (JNDI) API.
The DataSource interface is implemented by a driver vendor. There arethree types
    of implementations:
Basic implementation -- produces a standard Connection object
Connection pooling implementation -- produces a Connection object thatwill automatically
participate in connection pooling. This implementation works with amiddle-tier
    connection pooling manager.
Distributed transaction implementation -- produces a Connection objectthat may
be used for distributed transactions and almost always participates inconnection
pooling. This implementation works with a middle-tier transaction managerand
almost always with a connection pooling manager.
Does that help clarify the distinction?

  • 13.3-in, LED, HD displays 581177-001 and 580664-001 - what is the difference?

    Hello,
I have just upgraded my HP pavilion 1020er from lowest CPU (AMD Athlon™ Neo Processor MV-40 (1.6-GHz, 512K L2 cache), UMA, 581171-001) to the highes one (Intel Core2Duo Processor (2.26-GHz, 1066-MHz FSB, 6MB L2 cache), discrete 580663-001).
The LED connector fit perfectly but thescreen shows nothing.
The fan is on, the power button switches it on and off but neither single action on the screen no sound. I tried to connect the external LCD - no result, though I'm not completely sure I managed to switch to VGA output.
    So my questions are:
    1. what is the difference in part numbers 581177-001 and 580664-001? Specifically what does MA stand for in "13.3-in, LED, HD BrightView (1366x768) MA (AMD systems)"?
    2. Do I need to reinstall Windows since I upgraded from AMD to Intel?
    3. Any ideas on possible reason are very much welcome.
    Thank you.

    Hi @PadliQ ,
Thank you for your post, I will do my best to help!
I see you upgraded the CPU on your notebook from AMD to an Intel.
Here is the HP Pavilion dv5 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide.  I did not notice the part numbers you listed, but the processor is a supported one ( Chapter 3 page 20).
I would try this.  Go to the bios screen and restore the defaults.   This will cause it to scan and pickup any hardware changes you have made.
If you boot into safe mode does the display work?
I believe the MA in the description of the display stand for Matte finish as opposed to a bright finish. ( The bright finish has a more reflective quality and can make displays hard to read in brightly lit conditions.

  • What's the difference between Transferred Records and Added Records?

When right click an ODS or a cube to select Manage, then under the 3rd tab called Requests, there are two columns called Transferred Records and Added Records, what's the difference between these two?
    Thanks

    Hello KeLviN,
    How r u ?
    Consider a realtime example.
Assume a transfer of Transactional Data from R/3(with PSA) which is having Unit values in it.
Now, I found in RSA3 2844168 of records. In BW I saw one Data Packet with 306 error records(because of a UNIT value is not available in BW T006 table, Eg. YDD) which are automatically collected in PSA. Now in the Monitor screen you could see 2 Monitor status with GREEN Signals for 2 set of data.
    1. with 2843862 records
    2. with 306 records
Now, if u manage the Data Target you will get 2844168 in the Transferred Records & 2843862 in the Added Records. and the 306 error records are in the PSA.
    Hope this is clear.
