KPT Vector Effects, bring it to illustrator

I used to use this plug-in before the OSX days, it worked great at warping/arching/arcing type, much much much better than the current tools in illustrator. I believe Corel might have bought the program or some rumor like that, but it would be great if Adobe could aquire that and bring it to illustrator. It worked so smooth allowing for saved pre-sets, and letting you manipulate the points on each side of the text independently or together. The only drawback it had was the text had to be converted to outlines.

I agree.
The warp tools in Illustrator now are the same ones that Letraset did back in the old days. KPT Vector Effects had them beat then and still does.
The control that the program gave you was wonderful -- not like warp.
The interface was elegant.
Just adding those features would be reason enough to upgrade to the next version IMHO.
I wonder if the Frenchman that created it kept the rights and that is why Corel was not able to upgrade. Although Corel has a terrible reputation for letting programs die...
I worked on the beta testing team at the time.
As far as any plug-in that Kai put out it was the best one. Some of the others had rather unorthidox interfaces.
I miss it.

Illustrator 6.0 vector paths, when opened in Illustrator CC are now all broken into segments at key points (ie. a circle, has become a series of 4 quarter circle lines. Has anyone experienced this and is there a quick fix? I still have both Illustrator versions installed and can go back to use the original files, however I'd like to upgrade smoothly without having to redo all my vectors!

That is strange sounds like what happens when you open a die built in autocad, in illustrator. What happens if you paste a CS6 path into CC?

File>Open to open your eps file
File>Export to export your image as a jpg.
In the export dialog box just below where you type in the filename is a file type, that is where you choose jpg.
What ever you do, do not delete the eps file. Should you ever need to access the original you will have have.
I recommend that instead of jpg you choose psd, tiff, or png and use jpg only for sharing. Jpg is a lossy format meaning each time you edit the file and save it, the quality of that file degrades. The formats I recommend are lossless formats, you can edit them all you want no data is being discarded unless you choose to do so.

  • Acrobat drawing markups - how to bring them in Illustrator

    Hi,
On a document, there are drawing markups.
I would like to bring them in Illustrator.
I opened the PDF document with the markups in Illustrator, but markups were gone.
I tried to copy the markups from PDF and paste them in Illustrator but it does not work.
Is there a way, apart from Snapshot, to bring markups in Illustrator?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The markups are not drawing objects but annots/annotations.  They are a different type of object that Illustrator does not support natively.  Try this process.  In Acrobat, go to Tools>Print Production>Preflight>PDF Fixups> Flatten annotations and form fields
    Click Analyze and fix
    Save as a new name
Open that PDF file in Illustrator.

Illustrator seems to have more options to create effects?
Example of what one user using illustrator made (and what do i mean by shiny effects) please take a look at this picture for even a better detail)

Suggest you are unaware of the fundamental difference between Illustrator and Photoshop. Photoshop is an raster image editor. It works by adjusting and moving pixels. Pixels are like tiny Legos that make up an image. Look closely enough and you can see the Legos. Illustrator is a vector graphic editor. It works by manipulating the shapes that an image appears to be made from.
The web page you're looking at is a good example. Each letter is a shape that is scales to size and positioned according to the HTML layout instructions in the page's code. If you were to edit this page as a vector (Illustrator) you could be-size or reposition the frames that determine where text goes. You could edit the text, move letters and words around, change the font or the size of the text, and more.
If you were to edit the page as a raster (Photoshop). You'd be more limited in some ways, since all you'd be working with is the image of the text, not the text itself. You wouldn't necessarily be able to do
less. You'd be using different tools. If what you wanted was to edit the text or reformat it, then Illustrator would have the right tools for that job. If you wanted to blur the text or erase some of it as if wiping an eraser over the page, then Photoshop would have the better tools for that job.
Without seeing the image you tried to post, I'm going to assume it's a realisitic looking illustration, like
this one. That was drawn by a pro with years of experience with Illustrator and years more skill as an artist. If you want to make that image, you're going to have to go to school for a long time.

  • FAQ: Why are my vector graphics (e.g., from Illustrator) jagged or soft?

(For a video version of this frequently asked question and answer, click this link.)
After Effects must convert imported vector graphics to bitmap (raster) graphics. By default, this conversion (called "rasterization") happens once for a layer, and it happens before transformations, like scaling. This means that scaling such a layer up is really scaling a bitmap image, and that can expose jagged pixelation.
You can tell After Effects to rasterize after transformations like scaling, and to do so once per frame, to ensure that each frame is as crisp as possible. Just click the Continuously Rasterize switch for the layer.
This is only an issue for imported vector graphics (from Illustrator, SWF, EPS, and PDF files). Vector graphics created in After Effects, like text and shape layers, are always continuously rasterized.
For more information, see"Continuously rasterize a layer containing vector graphics".

I'm going to answer my own question and then ask another.... Why?
When I open just one PDF document it look great. but when i open two, the second
document always has this fuzziness to the edges. Doesnt matter which documents I open
This is a close up of two documents opened and the windows placed over each other. As hopefully you can see
in this screen capture, the one on the right has a furry edge and looks quite rough. Its the document opened second.
    Any ideas?

  • Can this effect be created in illustrator?

Hey guys I found this amasing piece of art, is from a logo presentation, and am curious if this effect can be achieved in Illustrator. I am talking about the blurred sides of the vector image, giving the impression of fade in / fade out in perspective. Thanks!

    Hey Mike:
"I used a gaussian blur effect on one logo, then in the transparency  palette added a radial gradient mask. I did the same for a non blurred  logo and the invesr of the mask."
Can you apply that gaussian blur only on the very edges (preferably in a circular shape sort of) of the text? Here is a logo I am working on, and interested in achieving a similar effect for this part. I draw 2 elipses (imagine them as compound shape - a ring), the area in the text which should be blurred - in a controlled amount of course, is where the ring overlaps with the text only. (I have barely touched PS, so probably would catch my ears without spending a good amount of time to learn some of the basic aspects of the program)

How do I re-associate vector smart objects in Photoshop to open in Illustrator as they did before the update?

Editing smart objectrs uses the system wide associations, not the ones from Bridge, so you need to adjust that for the *.ai file type.

  • Can't drag vector taken with Shape into illustrator...

For some reason I cannot drag into a document a vector I created using the new Adobe Shape app from the Creative Cloud panel window.  When I double click the vector I get the pop up seen below.  I watched a few official Adobe videos on this app and they simply drag and drop their created vectors into their artboards.  Interestingly, I can't right click and select, "use in document." It then places it automatically in my document.  Any ideas what's up? Thanks

  • How can I get vector charts from excel into illustrator?

I have annual quality reports to do for our health trust,  the charts are created in excel by our quality team (admin) and are really poor quality  it appears to save them as rastered images (jpg or png) when it comes to commercial printing the poor quality really drags the overall annual report down.
They are complicated charts but just need to be able to clean up the text and vector lines/symbols so they look as good as the rest of the report.  Any ideas or suggestion on how i can do this, or other programs I can load the data into to get some decent quality vectors?

I do it all the time. Have them give you an Excel worksheet with all the charts. Make sure the font is set in Excel to something besides the default, i.e. Arial which you can easily change in AI. As for the rest as Kris says have only single filled symbols (either circles, squares or diamonds) for all data. No stroke symbols.

  • Flurry Effect in Photoshop or Illustrator

Hey I was just wondering if anyone knew how to create a flurry effect. Apple uses this in the new Coldplay advertisement for Viva La Vida. How do you make that smoky looking flurry? In this advertisement it is rainbow colored I believe. Also, the Mac screen saver titled "Flurry" is more of what I am looking to create. I would love to find out how to do this, thanks!!!

Example: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/desktop.html what I'm talking about is in the cinema display on this page. I'm thinking something more similar to this look with more solid lines involved.

I would make several copies of the original artwork.  On each copy, section the individual areas to be gradients. It looks like you have at least four gradients, both linear and radial.  It's just a matter of building each section and then reassembling each.  Not too complex, yet nice piece of artwork.
