When the System starts up the Harddrives won't recognized, The drives makes sounds like digging on steel. ( clac, clac, clac)
In a other System the Drives work fine.
I have installed a other Maxtor Harddrive a DX540 ATA 100 a this Harddrive works fine and without Problems.
I have the Bios 5.6 on and i have cleared the CMOS an set it to normal Settings.
My System
Athlon XP 2000+
MSI KT 3 Ultra 2 - MSI 6380E
3 x 256 MB Kingston 266 MHz
3 x Maxtor DX 740 ( 2x 40 and 1 x 80 Gigs)

I want to excuse my Englisch but it's a long day since i have spoken.

I have tested the harddrives with a Elitegroup with a Athlon 1200 C and with a Gigabytre with a Pentium 4 1800 MHz, and the Drives work fine, without any Sound.
But the Drives dont run with the MSI Mainboard.
I Think my MSI Board ist defect.

  • MSI KT7 Ultra and Windows XP Standby

    Hey eveeryone.
Just got the new board out from the box and ploped it in my computer. One thing i noticed after i preformed the BIOS Updates is that the Standby Option in the Windows XP is not available, so i checked the Settings in the BIOS and it's enabled. Tried the Microsoft Windows Updates - still no luck, any suggestions?

    Hi,
    1. BIOS - enable IPCA, enable APIC.
    2. Reformat your OS partition and reinstall WinXP SP1.
    3. Update VIA 4-in-1 driver.
    4. Update all necessary drivers -- graphics, audio, RAID, etc etc.

  • KT4 Ultra and FastTrak 376 issues.

I recently purchased a KT4 Ultra and installed it on me computer. Everythings fine, it boots and the bios recognises my IDE devices. It won't allow me to enter the bios though and it just sits there with the screen displaying this.

    thx alot )

NEVER HAPPENED TO ME. TRY DISCONNECTING ALL IDE DEVICES, CLEAR THE CMOS AND PRESS DEL BEFORE THE PROMISE BIOS LOADS.
MAYBE YOU'LL GET INSIDE TO DEACTIVATE IT FROM LOADING AT INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS - ONBOARD PCI CONTROLLER - SEARIAL ATA CONTROLLER.
DO YOU HAVE AN SATA HDD? YOU COULD USE ONE FOR TRYING TO SETUP AN ARRAY IN THE PROMISE BIOS (BY PRESSING CTRL+F AND THEN CHOOSE THE AUTO CONFIGURATION). AFTER THAT MAYBE YOU CAN ENTER THE BIOS.
YOU CAN ALSO TRY TO FIND AN MODDED BIOS FOR THE KT4-ULTRA THAT DOES NOT LOAD THE PROMISE SATA BIOS BY DEFAULT.

  • Sim Tray Replacemet.. For Droid Maxx,  Droid Ultra, and Mini..

I found a Place online that carries the Sim Tray / Volume Rocker  for the Droid Maxx,  Droid Ultra and Mini I think also uses this as Well.. I don't know how the Longevity is in these Sim Trays as they double as a Volume Rocker so having one or Two on hand would be a nice thing when & if the one in the Device goes bad..  I found this company that's carrying the replacement so if you need one I'd say give them a Call or Call Motorola and one can be sent if in stock to you Quickly with a small fee for S & H
Here is the Company that Handles them.. there may be more that has them but I found this one Enjoy b33

  • Nx6800 ultra and antec true power 430 W

    Hello everybody,
I have ordered my NX 6800 Ultra and just can't wait to get my hands on it...
Will my PSU cope with this card or should I plan on upgrading that also ????
    Thanx.

Ok, the only thing left is to wait for the board and keep my fingers crossed so that I don't end up updating firmware or watching my screen go artifacts or blue. I really had one bad experience some years ago with that kind of stuff with my first board : Matrox G400 (have to go wash my mouth now)

  • Lacie and Maxtor compatiblity

Lacie d2 and Maxtor onetouch firewire drives. Are they compatible with iMac duocore?

I use the LaCie D2 160gb I was previously using with my PowerMac dual 2.5 (which I sold before getting the iMac), and it works very well with the iMac. absolutely no issues. I did have to figure out the GUID partition scheme switch in Disk Utility in order to have a small bootable partition for the iMac. While's it's not the same FW800 speed I was getting on the PowerMac, I'm very pleased with it.

Im having random resets with a kt3 ultra and a MSI GF3 ti200 in 3d games; namely Mafia and Bf1942. Ive tried new drivers for the video card, checked the cpu temp, and bios settings. Any ideas on how to fix it or is their a compatibility problem with the mobo and the video card?

I found my 6380 v2.0 mobo liked 1 brand of ram more than other.I only run crucial, kingston or muskin(micron chips)ram.Put all bios settings to defaults & try only 1 stick(1 brand) of ram at a time.I also found my gf3 ti 200 & 500 liked certain versions of drivers over others. It would crash on some.Try original cd install drivers that came w/  vid :D  card.Try running 3d mark 2k1 bencmarks to test all drivers & ram.

  • MSI KT4 ultra and AMD ATHLON 2600+ and Corsair 512Mb 3200

    Hello,
    i've bought a: MSI KT4 ULTRA and a AMD ATHLON 2600+
Today, i've updated the bios to the version 1.3! So: no problem to reboot after the process complete.
BUT, now i can't set the CPU at 2.16Ghz (280Mhz clock) because if i set the clock up to 100Mhz it doesn't reboot anymore! the motherboard detect the frequency @ 1250 Mhz :(((
    Please: HELP ME
(sorry for the grammar and / the english) but i'm a french guy.

    Hi,
I had the same issues, see the thread:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=11717&boardid=13&styleid=1
Essentially I had to set (in the BIOS) the FSB to 166 and left the Multiplier on auto.  This ment the processor was reported properly as 2600+, but the memory will only run at 333 MHz...  Yeah I think I wasted the money on getting the latest and greatest memory too....
Had me worried for a while, I though my supplier had palmed a bad chip off on me....  It just that the board can't do the highest speed chips and the highest speed memory at the same time (it states that that is unsupported in the manual...)
    hope the helps...

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 GB SDRAM DDR 400 Problem

I have the K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 1GB sticks of Corsair ValueSelect DDR 400 (PC 3200), model VS1GB400C3, filling all four slots. The BIOS recognizes about 2.88 GB of total memory. The MSI manual states:
    Quote
Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density
will only be detected up to 3+GB (not full 4GB) when each
DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean that I'm "wasting" my SDRAM, that not all of it is used, or does it mean that all of it will be used and the BIOS just reports a smaller number?

    Hi.
You seems not familiar with X86....
As you should know, Windows XP and most OS are 32 bits. That mean that every memory pointer is 32 bits, thus allowing to address 4Gb of memory.
    BUT
In most OS, there is a difference between the kernel and the user. So, in most OS, the memory is divided in two 2Gb block (no matter how many Gb of Ram you really have!). The first one is for the OS, the 2nd for the user program.
So, If you have for example 3Gb of ram, in the best case, you have 1gb for system and 2Gb for user program.
To allow more Ram to fonction, PAE (Physical Address Extension) was made. Instead of 32, you got 36 bits for you pointers.
But as X86-32 CPUs can't handle more than 32 bits, a reserved area was made within 4Gb to allow Memory to be copied from the area the program want to read.
    Exemple:
You got a server with 8Gb of ram. In windows, you only see 3.5+512Mb PAE.
If a program need to address memory in the 7-7.5 Range for example, the chipset copy the data from the 7-7.5 range to the 3.5-4 range in order to allow the CPU to get access: that's VERY slow.
So, in short: You can't have and don't need 4Gb of ram on 32bits OS.
(And there's even more place occupied by every card (AGP, PCI, PCI-e)....)
That's why XP64 is so interresting for programmers who needs lots of ram (Database....). When used with a chipset who know how to deal with lots of ram (I don't know if NForce4 can do it but I doubt it), you can load in memory a 4Gb Database.
But In all case, the bios should say 3.5Gb, not 2 and so on. You must have a problem with one of your stick. My guess is that they are all double sided and that you should slow down the memory to 333MHz.
(Or better: Send back 2x1Gb stick and get 2x512 SINGLE SIDED stick, unless you REALLY NEED 1.5Gb for your system !)

  • KT4 Ultra and XP2000 Crashes at 133fsb

My system runs fine at 100fsb with clock multiplier set to 12.5 giving me 1250 Mhz, but when I set my FSB 133 the system crashes.  I've tried setting it with the fuzzy logic and in the bios.  Each time it resulted in a black screen and I had to short the cmos to get it back.
Also How do you add the system info tag?
    KT4 Ultra MS-6590
    IBM 60 GB 7200 HD
    AMD XP2000 model 6
    Thermotake Heavyduty heatsink and fan
    256 MB PC2700 Micron
    GeForce4 440 64MB video card
    L&C PSU Model LC-A350ATX
               - 350 MAX
               - +5 and +3.3 V Combined 190 watt

I have exactly the same problems here, system runs ok at 100fsb, but it isn't on 133.
I was thinking of a cooling problem already so this is clear to me now.
However one problem remains and that concerns the RAID option! Believe me or not, but currently this option is faded out in the BIOS (1.3) and therefore no bootable devices can be discovered also setting the option "Try other bootable devices" to YES does not work. If I start messings with the CMOS settings the RAID option might return after saving the adjustments and rebooting. While booting up the Fastrak376 is either present or gone.
Currently I have just a Matrox G400 MAX in the AGP slot and none of my PCI devices are used. Further two IDE devices (Maxtor 80gig DX740-L) are hooked up, one to SATA (with converter) and the other to PATA so it shouldn't be an IRQ issue.
I already cleared the CMOS using the jumpers and switching " on "  the machine, did a NVRAM clearance and that didn't work either. Setting Plug and Play OS to DISABLED worked out once but after making some adjustments to the BIOS settings the RAID disappeared ever since ..
However I was able to install Windows XP once and as you probably can figure it took me two days getting the RAID option to work, apparently another BUG in the KT4?  ?(
Unfortunately now I am stuck since no RAID for the time being ... Hope one can help since once again MSI does not respond to my emails... ...  :O

  • KT4 Ultra and SATA

I have a KT4 Ultra that supports SATA Raid and Im looking at getting a new HDD. CAn I run my old PATA HDD with a SATA HDD without it being in raid format or do the disk have to be in a raid format.

    Hey guys, how about this:
MSI KT4 Ultra SR, Win2000, PDC 20376 Promise Serial ATA chip on board.  WD 40gig IDE hd as primary on IDE 1.  Attached a Maxtor 120gig SATA to the Serial ATA 1 connector. While booting did NOT setup an array.  Windows 2000 in Disk Management under Device Manager/Disk Drives has now two folders, one for the WD and one that says SCSI Disk Device.  It's also also recognized under System Information/Components/Storage as SCSI controlled by the Fast Track 376 controller.   Is this a proper way to setup the serial Maxtor as an extra single drive in the system attached to the Serial interface?  Is this even possbile?  My problem is that while the drive is recognized as a SCSI disk device as described above, it is NOT seen under Disk Management as a new unformatted drive with a new letter.  Assuming the above setup is correct, how do I format the drive so Windows can use it?  Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • KT4 Ultra and PC3200 speed detect problem

    Hi all,
I am new to the forum, having just bought a KT4 Ultra for my new system.  It features the following components:
KT4 Ultra (sorry not sure of model number as I'm posting from work, but I checked for BIOS updates and there's only one which looks like a  USB2 compatibility fix)
    1 stick of 512Mb PC3200 memory
    AMD 2700XP+ (333FSB) CPU
ATI Radeon 9000 128Mb (this will do until DX9 cards available
Intel 100 Pro network card for my ADSL hub (my KT4 did not come with onboard network socket)
    350W power supply
    Win2K Pro SP3
I have two problems.  One is that the machine won't ever shutdown - it always reboots.  Having done a search of this forum, I will check the "Wake on LAN" settings in the BIOS as of course, plugged into an ADSL router, the LAN+WAN is constantly live... so I'm hoping that will be fixed later today....
But, the second problem is one of performance - in that with the initial auto detect settings, the BIOS found a 1500+ CPU and 400Mhz memory.  When I manually change the bus speed to 166, the CPU is recognised correctly as a 2700, but the memory dropped down to 333Mhz speed.  If I then disable the autodetect for the memory and manualyl set 400Mhz and CAS2 speed, I can't even get to the BIOS screen on bootup.  I get 4 or 5 short beeps, nothing on the display and need to short pins 2+3 of JCAT1 to reset to factory defaults.
Any idea how I can get my PC to boot with the correct speed memory (ie PC3200@400)?
    Thanks for any tips,
    Mike.

    Hi
I have the same problem when I set FSB to 200Mhz - DDR to 400Mhz and on boot screen i always see DDR 333.
I make a test and when I use 152Mhz FSB (or up) DDR Always is 333Mhz no maters than in Bios is saved DDR400.
    My system is
    t-bred 1700+ (133x10.5) fabrique unlocked
    MSK kt4 ultra (6590)
    bios v1.1
    256mb ddr 400 samsung c3
    msi g4200td 128mb
    60gb maxtor diamond max
    I make some tests
    CPU on 200Mhz FSB x 8.5 multiplier, or 8 or 7.5 or 7 (1.575V)
    MEM always show DDR333
    WHY ?
It is possible to run FSB/MEM sincrhony on 200Mhz ?
I also make a mem tests with Sandra 2003 when
    I use 200Fsb x 8.5 and Bios DDR 333  and
    200Fsb x 8.5 and Bios DDR 400
the results is the same .
I'm sure that On boot Screen DDR information is right.
and always DDR is on 333 mhz wneh FSB is more than 152mhz No mather what you set in Bios ( 266 or 333 or 400)
    And other strange thing is:
with my previous locked XP 1600+ (10.5 x 133) I can run on 166FSB / MEM with this DDR (samsung) on max aggressive settings 2.5 2-5-2 1 Ultra
    now with my new CPU i can't run on 166FSB less tnah 3 3-6-3 2 Normal ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • KT4V MS-6712 and Maxtor 120GB problemsPLEASEHELP!!!!!!!!!!

I seem to have a hell of a problem on my hands and I can't figure it out for the life of me.
    I have a MS-6712 mobo
    Wester Digital 20GB HD ATA/133
    Maxtor 120GB UDMA ATA/133
    256 MB RAM
    MSI Geforce4 TI4800SE 8X AGP graphics card
My system was working just fine for about a year now, and so I decided to add a new HD to the mix for additional storage. I got the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 Ultra 120GB ATA/133 drive, installed it into my system, everything went fine for the first couple days. It is formatted in NTFS format, my WD drive is Fat32. All of a sudden anytime I tried to copy files over to the Maxtor drive it was horribly slow and ultimatly would make the system freeze very quickly. I know about having to power on and off the system 10 times before the drive runs at full speed(per MAxtor's instructions). AFter I did this, it still would not run fast, and ultimatly started to crash my computer any random time, no matter if I was d/ling to my other drive, to the Maxtor drive, and sometimes would not even start up all the way. At first I thought it was an NTFS issue, but I am quickly thinking that that is not the case. I've reinstalled XP SP1 over 10 times now, updated every driver I possibly can, and still nothing helps. I know it is the Maxtor drive because without it, my system runs without a hitch. Ive tried the Maxtor on another computer setup and it worked flawlessly, so I know that it is good. Is ther anything I'm overlooking in order to get my motherbooard to work with my new Maxtor? Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions as to a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am about to give up on the drive out of frustration, but I want to give it another shot before I do. Thanks a lot, and if you need any more info, please let me know.
    --------->Musashi

Hi guys, thanks for the replies....I have a few updates...first I took back the Maxtor drive and got a Western Digital 120 GB drive instead. Installed it, everything worked fine, except for whenever I played intensive games like Doom3 or Tribes Vengeance, sometimes it would hang on a frame for a second or two, and other times it would crash and leave a horrible high pitched sound coming out of my speakers. I have been trying to find the culprite to this problem ever since. I have updated every driver I have. I thought it might be a sound problem so I uninstalled my Sound Blaster Live 5.1, but didn't seem to do the trick. I then saw that I had version 1.1 of my bios, and that it was all the way up to version 1.9....so I promptly tried to flash the bios. I did that and at first it worked fine, but then all hell broke loose as it started to crash every windows booted up. I tried using the bios rescue utility, but of coarse it didn't do . so now I have again formatted and installed win XP on my main 20GB WD, now have the same god damn problem I had with the Maxtor, everytime I access either IDE drive, the system stutters, and half the time crashes. I just don't get it, I don't see how I could have trashed the new WD drive as well, it just doesn't make any sense. and I can't seem to find any setting in the BIOS that is different than what my original configuration was before I updated the BIOS. Anyone have any suggestions, because this is just getting ridiculous. Thanks  a lot!
