Temp issues unfortunately comes with BIOS v1.4. Cpu Halt Command Detect option causes temp reading problems but you cant solve it by disabling it. Anyway bad temp reading is no problem unless your system is stable.

The system temp sensor may be between the first PCI slot and AGP slot, or somewhere near there if not mistaken. If you use a hot graphics card, that part will get hot too. Even it it's not, bad air flow around that area will accumulate heat too. Try with your casing fully opened and compare. If the temp dropped, then it's OK. If not, then you might have an issue.
Again, as long as it's stable, any temperature is OK.

  • Excuse me , info about KT4 Ultra temp issue BIOS 1.4

Hi, all, excuse me if I disturb u, but I've not understood compleltely if the low temps recorded by MSI KT4 ULtra sensors with BIOS 1.4 is a problem or is a real reduction of the temperatures offered by the new BIOS.
Thank you very much for your time
    Bye
    Marcello

No, its not enabled by default - and the temp issue is for real - not only reporting with less than 5-8*C, but also reversing the winbond sensors(CPU-SYS). I must tell you that the Cooler XP utility still works no mather if CPU HALT is enabled or not, taking another 5-8*C from your temperatures. Running an AMD Athlon XP Palomino 2100+  almost at 20*C with regular air cooling seems damn' science-fiction and the system with 5 degrees or more than the CPU.
So stick with what u've got, if it's ok and stable. And trust us, we've checked the BIOS, we've checked the temperatures with alternative measurments. We are not that ******

Reads from internal diode sensor on those AMD chips that have one.  Otherwise it comes from a sensor on the circuit board under the socket-a.

  • Four Red Lights - new system

I've assembled a new system, when trying to start it I get four red LEDs from the D-panel that comes with the board.
    The specs:
    MSI K8T Neo FIS2R
    A64 2800+
    512 Corsair Value Select
    GF 5600 Ultra (temp)
IBM 60G IDE HD, Maxtor 60G IDE HD

I've tried this with two CPUs and get the same results with both, four red lights.  Any ideas?

    Things to do in order...
Create a sig that contains them. It is impossible to give specific help when we have no idea what parts we are talking about. Keep in mind that no one wants to hunt if the thread gets long.
Reset CMos as per your manual.
Try just one stiuck of RAM.
Try the other stick or an older stick.
    Try other memory sockets.
Once you get to bios set to defaults and then set the memory speed to the correct setting for your ram and leave all others at auto.
Set specific memory timings as per your RAM.

  • I have a 6800 ultra in my powermac, what temp should it be?

I have a 6800 ultra in my powermac 2.7, what temp should it be? right now the case is between 111-120 F and the chip is between 150-160F.... is this the temperature that it should be running in? also, is the only difference between the ultra and the GT the 50mhz core clock and the 100mhz memory clock? thanks for the help

    Dear The Geek,
I have the Dual 2.5 G5 with very similar cooling system, etc. I just recently installed a 6800 GT card new from Ebay and it has been running about 111ºF on the Graphics processor case and 144ºF on the Graphics processor chip at idle. As far as I know the difference in clock and memory speed are the only differences between the 6800 GT and Ultra. That said, the difference in processor operating temp could be due to the slightly higher clock speed, I suppose. Running Cinebench I did get the processor temp up to about 147ºF. I don't think the extra 10ºF should be a critical difference. I wonder how your fan speeds compare. For instance, my Graphics processor fan runs static at 32% and the PCI Slot Fan runs static at 49%. How does your PCI fan compare?...I notices mine runs considerable faster with the added current used by the 6800 compared to the original 9600xt.

  • KT4 Ultra and XP 2400 Temp

    Hi,
when I first installed my xp 2400 on my KT4 ultra mobo my temps were between 32c and max of 38c. Now that it's been working for a while my temp stays between 47c and 51c. Is that too hot? What is too hot? What else can I do to lower my temps?
I have the AMD approved heatsink listed in my specs below. I am using Artic Silver II. Am I going to have to reapply this every month or so?
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks in advance

I don't believe those temps are too high but it is curious that they are higher than before.
Did you follow all the instructions when you applied the Arctic Silver?
Also, I would definitely open up the case and give it a very thorough cleaning. Especially between the fins of the HSF.
I do know with mine, two front and one rear case fan, that it gets dusty as heck in about 4 weeks!! And we use an electronic air cleaner on the furnace. After about a month, I pick up two cans of air and clean it out very well (with some left over).
Do you have any case fans? If you do, clean them as well. If you don't, it may be a good idea to add them front (air in) and rear (air out).

i sat in utter amazement at the respone they gave me

ok...thx alot...im sure they know better then i do...it just seemed to me that was a bit high...id like the option of setting it to a temp of my own..but i guess its not possible...and i wanted to return the card to the store i bought it from..but in a rare case(i always put comp part reciept in the box it came from) i lost it    ..i can return it through pny...but i dont wanna deal with the hassle right now..if it fails completely...then ill return it and put my ti4400 back in..once again..thank you

I've switched back to 1.2 Overclockers out there take care
and don't be fooled. Best is to note the exact diference in degrees before and after ver 1.4. And if u have now 20* degrees and before you had 30* that means if you ever get past 40* is bad  - you're running at 50*C )
Until now the temperature readings of MSI mainboards were very precised.

  • What are the "Official" Temps for GFX 5900 Ultra

I have the GFX 5900 Ultra with an average idle temp of between 35-38 Celcius.
Using RivaTuners background monitor, I found that I was getting VERY inacurate ratings when I alt-tab'd to the monitor on the desktop.  Plus RivaTuner will let you monitor in the background and save it to an html file for later and accurate results.
I thought I was peaking around 58-60 degrees in games but the realtime logging of RivaTuner showed it maxing at 83 degrees at times.  I'm not getting BSOD or lockups, in fact it runs just fine.  And I can play BF1942,Halo and COD for 5-6 hrs each in a sitting and nothing bad has happened yet so I'm starting to think these temps are normal for a Video Card with such high speeds.
Being that my idle temp is so low, I'm not doubting the effeciency of my heatsink, fans and case cooling.
I would love to see other results using RivaTuners background monitor from other people posted here so please do so and help get some accurate temp ratings out there.

Thanks, I was being a bit anal, but just wanted to be sure.

  • Problem with KT3 Ultra/AMD 2100+ temp

    hi,
Im not too familiar with motherboards but i know when there is something seriously wrong. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra motherboard with a AMD XP 2100+ processor. My computer normally ran at a CPU temp of 45C, but today I installed the new version of PC Alert 4. All of a sudden my CPU temp increased 15C. Now its running at 60C, which i think is too high. I havent changed anything else, and nothing has been overclocked. I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4400 and 512mb RAM. Please help.
    Thanks in advance

No it wont, but it has probably been running at that temp all along.....Maybe your first PCAlert was just giving false temps........Did you ever check it in the bios before?

  • P7N Diamond MCP get to ultra high temp

the MCP on my P7N Diamond can goes up to as high as 73 C / 163 F with out doing anything
it go above 80 C when running game
is this an ordinary temp ?
BTW, I got this temp with out OC or add Voltage

As Sliksta mentioned in his post, myself & others reduced NB problems (most problems only occured during OC'ing with my board) 'a lot' by redoing the heatsink & chip's TIM, using an Antec 'Spot Cool' fan, other creative fan arrangement, or a combination of both. I never did take an actual temp reading, so I can't tell you what the temp difference was after the redo & fan addition. If your not experiencing any unexplained shutdowns or post failures (which can always be memory related), your current NB temp should be ok. If you plan on OC'ing in the future, a heatsink redo should be considered.

  • KT3 Ultra 2 Keyboard lock-ups

I have a problem I haven't seen the answer to.  Just built a PC with MSI KT3 Ultra 2, 2000XP processor, GeForce4 Ti 4200 64 MB vid card, 256MB, Windows ME.  System has been stable for about 2 weeks now, but yesterday and today it has locked up the keyboard while web browsing (no other programs running).  Not sure what is occurring.  I have an intake and 2 exhaust fans and temps appear to be well with in acceptable ranges.  After this occurs, windows will lock-up on reboot at the ME splash screen.  Then sometimes, the pc wil reboot on the following restart fine.  Other times, it locks up again with an illegal division error after the splash.  No programs or hardware added lately that would have caused this.

The second system has a 330 watt enermax power supply.  With the new system I put together, I put virtually the same board (MSI KT3 Ultra 2 with bluetooth and RAID), everything is the same as my first system (except the KT3 Ultra-ARU) and the stability is fine.  So, I'm reasonably confident its not the power supply.

  • PSU Query for MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU running 3000xp

    Hi There,
Before buying a new Motherboard I was just wondering if the problems I'm getting are related to the PSU which is about 5 years old. I've just upgraded my processor to a Athlon 3000 XP 333 FSB which goes into the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) motherbaord, which I've upgraded the Bios to version 5.7, I've also  upgraded my graphics card to the Leadtek Geforce FX5900XT which also plugs into the PSU. When setting my fsb to 166 my PC either won't boot or when I try to run say 3DMark it just freezes, but when I set my FSB to 133 it works fine. I was wondering if it is trying to draw too much power from the CPU.
I don't really know how to write the PSU details down correctly so I've just copied everything from the unit.

  • Questions on temps and ide3 usability

    Hello,
As you can tell I'm new to the forum.   I've recently destroyed my Gateway for a great reason and have spent over 850 dollars upgrading.  In the price includes a p4 2.4c ghz processor, 865PE Neo-2 board, 2 - 256 mb pc3200 ddr kingston memory (dual channel), Antec case, 300 watt Antec power supply, Geforce Fx 5700 Ultra 128 mb 4x/8x Vid card.
    Now to my questions -
My hard drives are both different brands and different sizes.   One, my primary, is a Maxtor 80 gigabyte Ultra ata 133 hard drive w/8mb cache @ 7200 rpm.   My secondary drive used just for storage of data is a Western Digital 40 gigabyte ata 100 w/2mb cache @ 7200 rpm.   On my board there are 2 ata 33/66/100 slots and one ata133 slot.   My question is can I use the Maxtor hard drive on ide3 to utilize the ata133 and leave the Western Digital on the regular ide and boot from the Maxtor?
    Second issue is this -
It's slightly in the process of being altered very soon anyway but.....   My cpu is running at 48 - 52C at all times.   My BIOS settings are DOT - General, Performance - Turbo/Ultra - Turbo with no extra overclocking and manual dram timings.   Is the DOT and Performance settings causing me to have high temps?   I'm running the stock speeds as well as the stock heatsink and fan that came with my new processor and using just the thermal pad and no thermal paste.
Thanks anyone and everyone who reads my post.   Special thanks to anyone that responds
    Brandon

So you're saying I need to reformat the drive and then go from there?   Loading Windows Xp and installing my RAID drivers.   That's not a problem but I just wanted to clarify things a bit.
As for core center, that thing is EXTREMELY buggy.   I locked up my system many times just opening the program let alone changing any settings.   DO NOT click the "Default" button on that program.   Bad bad things happen.
I have speedfan installed on my computer but use it only for system temps as for the fact that I'm unsure of how to use it to overclock.   I've never overclocked before so that's the major problem.   I've also heard a program called "Coolbits" is one of the best for overclocking?
    Thanks again.

Yes, you can use the 133 slot for your maxtor, but under certain circumstances only. IDE3 is on the RAID controller, so make sure when you install xp, it will ask if you need to install any 3rd party raid or SCSI controllers, you need to use that disk that came with your mobo for that.
When you go turbo on the DOT, make sure your FSB is set to 201, it HAS to be @ 201 (thx riley).
Make sure you set your ram voltage to at LEAST 2.6, 2.7 is preferable.
And dont even THINK about OC'ing w/ that stock Heatsink w/o any compound.
Check out some ThermalTake or Zalmon Cooling soultions and get some Silver Thermal Compound. Heat is the O/C'ers killer.
Also make sure to get the newest CoreCenter if your using that.
But i would use SpeedFan instead of CoreCenter, just pop in Speedfan @ google.
