KT266 PRO2 & BIOS

HEY GUYS
I got a KT266 PRO2 (6380 Version 2)
NOTE::  NOT A RU OR A  Motherboard.
AMI Bios Version 3.3 Dated 11-30-01
Now for the 3 questions
Is this the latest Bios for this motherboard? I cant seem to find anything on it at the MSI Site.
I want to put a XP1800 Thoroughbred processer and dont know if this board will support the 13U Core. Does anybody know??
By the way why isnt this listed on MSI site. I bought this board less than a year ago.
thanks

Nawww your not dumb...Hey maybe its me.
Well i wanted to use an XP1800 (thoroughbred) processer which runs i believe at a lower voltage than a
XP1800 (Palamino) core. I was thinking that a BIOS flash my let me do this. However the boys over at AMDMB.COM says that  I cant run Thoroughbred on this motherboard without doing a mod. By the way this link might help somebody else.

Dont know why i couldnt find it on the MSI site

  • KT266 PRO2 and PCI ATA controller

I have a lot of ide devices so I bought a PCI ide controller years ago. Now I got my little brothers motherboard. MSI KT266 PRO2, and plugged all my stuff into it. When it was time to reinstall Win, but it would not boot the cd, or from floppy. I checked the boot order, all looks fine.
Then I tried to take the PCI IDE controller out, and then it booted my winXP cd fine.
So basically, When the PCI ATA bios is loaded (the card), I'm unable to boot from cd-rom or floppy. Only boot from HDD1 works. So every time I need to reinstall windows, I need to unplug all harddrives from the PCI IDE controller card. Then windows is installed I can plug the harddisks back in...
I can't find an explanation to this...
No problem when the PCI IDE controller is used with 2 other motherboard I have. Latest bios is used on the motherboard and the pci IDE adapter card.
    MSI KT266 PRO2
    AMD athlonxp 1700+
    Sapphire Radeon 9600 PRO
    maxtor ata100 pci controller
    768 MB DDR pc-2100 ram

On the MB controller I have 2 harddrives on primary (one master, one slave), and 1 dvd-drive (master) and 1 cd-recorder (slave) on secondary.
On my ata controller card I have 2 extra harddrives for backup. Both on the IDE1. One as master and the other as slave.
    All drives are properly configured.

  • MS-6593 KT266 Pro2-U Higher Multipliers = ~700mhz :censored:

I have a KT266 Pro2-U board and a ThoroughbredB XP1800. I want to be able to up the multiplier on this XP to 15. I have the latest official bios for the board and there is a 15x setting in it, however the setting makes the cpu function at 700mhz. I have already unlocked the CPU by bridging the L3 #5 bridge. What else do I have to do to use the higher multiplier? This thing runs at 47 deg under load at 139mhz fsb, I think I can go for the full 15x139 and be stable and cold.

  • KT266 Pro2-RU + mobile barton XP2500+M

There's been a lot on this forum about the modded bios etc which enables the 6380 v2 motherboard to be compatible with the later T'bred and thornton chips.
But searching through the maze of users' comments I've failed to locate anything saying that it is also compatible with the Barton chip, specifically the mobile Barton chips.
I currently use a 2 year old Thunderbird 1200mhz chip, and would like to upgrade to a Barton 2500+ mobile chip, as it's the only 266mhz Barton chip I can find in the UK. I assume that I cannot use a 333fsb chip on my mobile, unless it is unlocked an I can move the multiplier high enough?
I am utterly confused with the products that AMD have on offer. Is there anywhere where their performances have been compared? Is a T'bred 2500+ significanly slower than a Barton 2500+ because of the 512kb L2 cache?

    Hi all for again,
    I have K7T 266Pro2 - RU (MS-6380)
What is the max speed of processor/fastest procesor, which can I safely use? - I would like stable system too - I want NOT using overclocking...
    1) If I make all mods to work with Thoroughbred (update to BIOS 3.7, remove C37), it will work with Thorton?
    2) What is the max configuration (speed) with K7T 266 Pro2 - RU? I read much in this forum, but I'am very foggy. Is it 133 * 15 or 133 * 17.5 (with set auto in BIOS or HOW?)
What is the max configuration without doing some special mods (e.g. on processor) only with changing settings in BIOS and with removed C37?
What is the best and fastest choice of processor?
Many thanks for any advice and very sorry for my very poor english.

  • K7T266 Pro2 BIOS 3.3 upwards ???

    Hi all,
I've got a strange problem with my K7T266 Pro2. I can only overclock with bios 3.3, any bios of a higher version (i've tried 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7), I can only set my FSB at 133, otherwise my system will not be stable at all. I've tried the latest 3.7 bios, and I try to set the FSB to just 134Mhz, and there are random lockups during boot up to WinXP already.
The strange bit is if I use 3.3 bios, I can set my FSB to 159Mhz stably. I am now using 159Mhz x 10 (XP 1600+ unlocked) very stable - can loop 3dmark2001 24 hrs without any lockup.  Anyone has similar experience?

seems bios 3.3 is the best bios for this mb

" something something, i'm not sure, all iget is the IRQ part about my AGP controller? or VIA chipset?

  • KT266 Pro2-RU

    Hi
After update the bios whit the latest version (6380v37.exe) my system don't do a cool reboot.
When i make some change in bios and i save and exit the sistem save the change but the machine don't restart.
    some suggestions ???
    Thank's
    Andrea

Do you then have to press the power button for 5 secs and power off and then power on? My system is like that after I upgrade to 3.7 bios
It cold starts ok and boot into winXP, but when I do a restart in winXP, it just cannot restart past the bios POST, the screen blanks and the power led turns off with only the hd led on and I have to power if off with the power button and then on again .... a pain in the ass
The same thing happens if I make any changes in the bios and save and exit - it just cant go pass POST and I'll have to power it off and on again and it'll POST.
I went back to 3.3 bios immediately - 3.3. is the most stable to me.

  • How To Overclock on KT266 Pro2

i was wondering how i would be able to overclock my AMD Athlon 1.333 Ghz to a higher speed w/ my mother board... where do i go in the bios? and how do i set it up?
wat about fan? should i get a fan that would cool down a CPu of the same speed? ie: Thermal Take fans that support up to a 1700+ Ghz for example, could i overclock my system up to 1700+ Ghz?
    Thanks

    Thanks rob, u helped  :D
but out of curiosity, wat about that program that MSI has that works in windows? i dont recall the name, fuzzy logic i think? is that anygood ?
and about overclocking.,.. how do i go about overclocking, i know how 2 change the clock speed, but wats this about vcore? my AMD guy told me i should leave it a 1.71 or something... how do i go about changing that, and wat should i leave it too?
BTW, im buying the Volcano 9 this weekend, so i would like to overclock by this weekend

  • K7T266 Pro2-RU BIOS flashed, now dead :panic:

    Hi
I have a new AthlonXP 2400+ and tried to run it on the K7T266 Pro2-RU board with no success. I thought it was a BIOS problem because the XP2400+ is listed as supported and flashed the BIOS with my old XP1700+. I took this package to flash the BIOS: http://download.msi.com.tw/support/bos_exe/6593v16.exe
    Now my PC is dead!
I saved the old BIOS to a floppy - is there any chance to reanimate the board again?
    P.S.: I recognized that I used a KT266 Pro2-R (not K7T266-RU) BIOS to flash.
P.P.S.: A local shop offers flashing of the BIOS chips. How can the chip be removed from (and inserted again to) the mainboard?

  • [VIA] [K7t266 pro2] cpu fan at 0 rpm

    Hello,
I've connected my new fan 'Thermaltake Silent Boost' to the three-pin connector of the motherboard. The fan spins perfectly, but when I start my computer an alert is displayed informing me that the fan isn't running (but it is).
When I look at the Hardawre Monitor Setup in my bios, I see 'CPU Fan : 0 rpm'. But with MBM5 or FuzzyLogic under Windows, the sensor works.
Have I some value to change in the Bios ?
    Motherboard : k7t266 Pro2
    Bios : AMI BIOS
Fan : Thermaltake Volcano Silent Boost K7
    Thanks

the fan is at ~2400rpm sothat's  maybe why my bios don't detect it as osnavi say.
I don't find any place where to disable fan speed monitoring. Any one has an idea ? (the manual is at http://us-download.msi.com.tw/support/mnu_exe/mbd_mnu/E6380LEv2.0.exe)
I'm afraid I should update the BIOS (v3.5 fix the problem) but i've lost a mobo two years ago because of this...

  • Experiences mixing DDR memory modules

Would you people post here experiences mixing DDR memory modules in order to help me/others take buying decisions?
I currently have a PC2100 256MB Samsung module and a MSI KT266 PRO2 and want to buy a new module.
As I  cannot find one similar to the one I already own want to assign a success likelihood before taking my decision.
    Thanks in advance Gustavo.-

Had a similar problem afew week's ago. I've got 2 identical stick's of 256Mb Samsung original DDR333 Cas 2.5, decided to upgrade to 1Gb and bought a stick of 512Mb Geil DDR333 (GL2000 Chips) Cas 2.5 for 45 quid. Installed the Geil in slot 2 (with the samsung sticks in slots 0 and 1) booted up o.k
bio's and windows detected the ram just fine.
After rebuilding the windows page file I started to test the extra ram by running 3dmark 2001 but kept getting  BSOD's (Irq's less then..., Page faults in non ...etc) mid way through the test's. I went in to the bio's and relaxed the ram timing's to spd, no change. Increased the ram voltage's, no change.
So I thought I'd do a fresh install of windows, but 3/4 of the way through copying the files off the windows cd I kept getting 'can't copy xxxx file from the cd', tried cleaning the cd, tried a backup cd same problem, took the samsung memory out and just put the Geil stick in slot 0, the system wouldn't even boot, but with the samsung stick's in on there own window's installed o.k. I tried the Geil stick in another system, which booted up without a hitch. So finaly I just took the Geil stick out and gave it back, the suppliers tested it and found it to be o'k and charged me 20 quid for the privalage, Ba%&!%@s.
Last week I borrowed a stick of 512Mb Twinmos DDR333, same problem's as the Geil. Seem's like they don't make them like they used to and I'm doomed to 512Mb with this board.

  • Low usb performance on KT4V

    Hi,
I upgraded from KT266Pro2A to KT4V. On my previous system I was able to achieve 25fps capture with my webcam (usb 1.1). Now I can reach at most 15fps. Is that a driver issue or so? All the other settings are same with the old system.

My situation is: I have a webcam (FlyCam 300K) which has been bought before there were any USB2.0 capable mainboards available. I have been using a MSI KT266 Pro2-A board. The webcam were connected by using its std. cable (it is not a replaceable cable, just fixed). By using virtual dub I was able to capture 25fps @ 320x240 resolution (lower fps at higher resolutions due to the capability of the webcam). Then my mboard broke and I bought a KT4V. I am using both Win2k and 98se on my system. I have loaded all chipset and USB2.0 drivers (even though I will never need usb2.0 soon). All the other hardware and software except the motherboard itself are the same with the old system. No sub cables are used btw the camera and motherboard.
Now I could not get the point in using an extra usb2.0 rated cable. My webcam has nothing to do with usb2.0. Do you mean that Via's usb2.0 chipset offers low performance even on usb1.1 systems?
    Thanks.
