KT3 Ultra 3: Crashes on high-performance settings

Hello, another frustrated newbie here.
Here's my problem.  I have an AMD 2200 xp processor.  When my computer boots up it says I have an AMD 1500 processor.  Yes, I know I need to change to FSB speed to 133 then I'll have a 2200 processor.  But here's the rub, when I change the FSB setting to 133 in the bios my computer crashes on reboot.  The only way to not crash is to go back into the bios, return to defaults (100 speed FSB) and then the computer works again.  It also crashes when I try other high-speed settings in the bios.  Everything else is working fine.  I've updated all the drivers I could find.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I am reliying on the expertise of this forum.
Thanks
Tom

Hi, using "High Performance" settings actually tweak on few hidden BIOS settings that's not visible in the BIOS menu. You can firstly, load "BIOS Default" settings, and then set the rests to high performance settings.
IF you still prefer to stick to "Load High PErformance Settings", then you might need to tune down your DRAM settings instead, tune to what your DDR RAM is capable of.

Bios is flashed to the latest version (v2.50)
    THE PROBLEM:
My system wouldn't run on anything higher the SLOW setting
in the "Frequency/Voltage Control Performance Mode" menu in the BIOS.
when i set it to 'fast' or 'turbo', my WindowsXP crashes.
when i set it to 'ultra turbo', it wouldn't even boot.
(i had to reset it several times till it became SLOW mode again)
when i tried to run the system with Windows98SE, the system freezes.
    (on anything else than SLOW)
I have no idea what the problem is.
is there a problem with the board?
(when i try to manualy overclock it, it's stable on 205 FSB)

that PAT/MAT not guaranteed to work on 865PE chipset (manufacturer make it possible, but Intel not guarantee it).
Btw, it's specifically work with RAM. So I think it's your RAM which can't handle.
(I think) On stock FSB, most RAM stable with Fast, some with Turbo, and rare with Ultra Turbo (under FSB 218, full PAT limit). But some can't run other than Slow (or Normal in some boards).

Then, it's clear that your RAM isn't high performance RAM and maybe not capable to handle PAT.
But, still 205 FSB is kinda low, you can try crank your vdimm to around 2.75 to 2.85 (watch your RAM warranty). -and maybe you get better stability on PAT-
For value RAM maybe -it's can be different- you can expect 210-220 (with loose timing).

  • KT3 ULTRA 2 / RADEON games dont work

as soon as i start a game the screen freezes, a few seconds afterwards, the monitor turns itself off and i have to press the reset button...
I have noticed that if i intall the newer radeon drivers this problem gets worse as it happens to almost every game.  if i use the built in drivers that xp has for the radeon, it only happens about half of the games.
It also happens in 3dmark 2002. as soon as i press benchmark the monitor turns itself off and i gotta restart.
i have tried the newest 4 in 1's and it still does this
    i have the latest bios
i have removed teh sb live card to make sure its not that
    What is causing all this?
    Kt3 Ultra 2
    duron 1200
    radeon 32meg ddr
    sb live
    256 meg samsung 2100

Have you tried loading the default bios settings and then just changing the fsb to 133? Then check for stability? This happened to me when I upgraded to newer bios and tried running high performance settings in bios.

  • K8N Neo - High Performance Mode Killed System?

I'm slightly frazzled at the moment, so forgive me for any mistakes. I installed the K8N Neo Platinum on Tuesday night, with a brand new Athlon64 3200+ with 1mb L2.
Video Card: VisionTek Xtasy Geforce4 Ti4400
    Memory: 2x Kingston 512MB 400MHz DDR PC3200
    Power Supply: Antec True550
    +3.3V @ 32A
    +5V @ 40A
    +12V @ 24A
I installed the various MSI applications tonight, including CoreCenter. Attempted to adjust the FSB with it, but with just a 2.5% increase, the temperature of the CPU was getting higher than I cared to see during stressful applications. So I set it back to default, and later on read up on the BIOS settings in the manual... I read the description of "High Performance Mode", and figured I would try setting it to Optimized.
Seemed like a good idea, let the board I had read was great for overclocking do it's stuff automatically. So after I set it to optimized (Didn't change anything else), I hit F10 and let it reboot. It never did. When it rebooted, the power stayed on, Hard Drive light showed it was being accessed... Only problem was absolutely no video was being sent. Monitor was as black as black could be.
Turned the power off, tried again and again. Same deal. Power comes on, HD shows it is being accessed constantly for about 20 seconds, then just stops. But no video is being output, which leads me to think the system is just dead in the water for the most part.
During this state, the LED's on the back are as follows: Top two are red, bottom two are green. I saw in another thread someone was going on about there being an explanation for them, but I don't have it in my manual nor could I find an explanation of them.
At this point I'm just shaking my head, because there is absolutely nothing to be done as far as I can tell. If anyone has any ideas as to a possible solution or at the very least, whether the MB just went nuts or something worse happened, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm at a loss and afraid to even think what might be the problem.

While the "high performance settings" can surely make the pc unstable, it should hardly ccause hardware-damage.
Turn the computer off (to be safe, remove the power-cord)
Clear cmos with the jumper (instructions can be found in your manual)
    Wait 30 seconds
Put the jumper back to its original position.
Power on the system, and see if it works ?
    EDIT: Info from manual:
    Quote
    Clear CMOS Jumper: JBAT1
There is a CMOS RAM on board that has a power supply from external battery
to keep the system configuration data. With the CMOS RAM, the system can automatically
boot OS every time it is turned on. If you want to clear the system configuration,
use the JBAT1 (Clear CMOS Jumper ) to clear data. Follow the instructions below to
    clear the data:
    MSI Reminds You...
You can clear CMOS by shorting 2-3 pin while the system is off.
Then return to 1-2 pin position. Avoid clearing the CMOS while the
system is on; it will damage the mainboard.

  • Cannot use Higher Performance graphic settings

    Hello,
When I originally bought my Macbook Pro three weeks ago, I had no issues with going to system preferences and selecting and saving the "Higher Performance" setting for the graphics for the Power Adapter. This visibly improved graphics performance for some programs I use.
However, recently, I noticed graphics performance wasn't as expected when running on house power, and I noticed that in system preferences < Energy Saver, my graphics settings have been placed back to "better battery life" for the Power Adapter setting...I keep trying to change it back to "Higher Performance;" when I log out and back in, and re-check the Energy Saver settings, there's a message box saying that I still need to log out for the changes to save. I can log out multiple times and they never seem to save, with that message continuing to be there. If I reboot altogether, and go back to system preferences < energy saver, its back to "better battery life," as if I never made an attempt to select "Higher Performance." Ive tried repairing permissions, and I've tried repairing the disk using the start up DVD during the boot cycle, and nothing seems to help. Since this is a new computer with few items on it, I even did a clean install of the OS....still to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

my problem is simalar but different.
my new macbook pro summer 2009 2.53 has no option to switch beetween low and high performance in the energy saver pref pane.
googling i found that this is not a isolated case.
someone solved the problem extracting from a leopard dvd with pacifist the 4.0 version of the energy saver pref pane.
all this situation may be caused by the 10.5.8 update.
Hope tha someone at apple try to reserve some working hour to solve this problem with an update instead of pushing hard on the snow leo launch

  • D3D crashing on KT3 Ultra 2 with 166 FSB

I've just upgraded my CPU from a XP2000+ Palomino to a Barton 2500 with the idea of overclocking it but I'm having problems running it at stock speed. I'm using a KT3 Ultra 2 board with the latest 5.7 bios and a Radeon 9700 PRO. As soon as I run any 3d apps with a 166 Mhz FSB my PC crashes immediately.
I've tested the CPU and memory with Sandra and as far as I can tell the system is 100% stable until my 3D card kicks in. If I underclock the Radeon core & memory then the system becomes stable again.
If I go back to a 133 FSB then everything runs with the Radeon at full clock speed. I'm coming to the conclusion that the AGP divider isn't kicking in and I'm overclocking the bus - is there any way to test this?
Is my motherboard knackered? Can anyone help?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a go at 167FSB but its just the same. My PSU is a Thermaltake Xaser 480W.
I've found the bit of Sisoftware Sandra that tells you the AGP multiplier and its still down as being 1/2 at FSB166 although the PCI has correctly gone to 1/5 so it looks like my first guess was right.  Is there any way to force it back down to 66MHz?

  • Default settings ....Kt3 ultra 2 ....:censored:....

    Hey Everyone,
I have a slight problem, I had recently pruchased a KT3 ultra 2 board and a XP1800+ processor.  I had some power supply issues but now I am using a 400 ps that is rated at the amd website.  Here is the kicker,  I have continually formatted and reinstalled windows xp about 5 times.  Whenever I use the system after a clean install it seems to work for a couple of days and then one day I shut it down (using the proper method) and when I turn it on it goes through POST then says "disk error" or there is a file missing from windows.  Orginally I thought it was a virus because boot up files were corrupted or missing.  But after doing this about 5 times I tried the bios and defaulted everything to factory setttings.  The system has not crashed since then, the only problem is that my xp 1800 is now only a 1.1 ghz system.  Anyone got an answer for this one???

    the specs are;

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, FSB for Processor

    Help me!
I have a KT3 Ultra ARU, which is lovely, however, I had an XP 1700+ with 512 DDR 266 Ram. The FSB was running at 133. However, i tried to change it, and it wouldn't boot.
Fine, so I resetted Cmos and all was ok.
I have now just installed an XP 2200+ with 512 DDR 333 Ram. My FSB, again, is 133, but i'm sure I read it can go up to 166 for these components. Is that right????
    Many thanks in advance,
    Jon

I know that the 40.41 drivers were specifically targeted to the vertex shader performance, thus increasing the nature test, however, I don't know what else they did to get such a high performance increase. All I can say is amazing. You can get the drivers here , that is assuming you are running winxp or 2000 as this driver only supports those.
Edit: It is a good idea to burn in your hardware before you go overclocking stuff. You may need to play with clock frequencies for your vid card as I can overclock alot higher then 305/605 but performance (and therefore score) drops significantly. Try different settings and run the test, when you feel comfortable overclocing. Be aware if you have never overclocked, that it can damage you components and void any warranty you have on your hardware.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Mem timing problems?

As experienced by myself as well as Maximum PC Magazine during testing. Using high quality memory such as Samsung PC2700 DDR on the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, if you set the cas latency timings to the most agressive settings, next time you try to boot into Windows, your OS crashes and the registry gets corrupted. Also the board actually interprets CAS 2.5 memory as CAS 2. I am sure a BIOS update will fix this problem, however who else has had this problems?

  • My KT3 Ultra Experience (from the nightmare to a running well system)

    Well First...
I don't speak a well english, maybe because still think in spanish, so maybe find many gramatical errors.
    the very very begin
The history begins with a terrible electric shock in my house, i got a Athlon XP 1700+ with a cheap PC Chips Board (810)..yeah the all in one board (video, modem, ethernet, sound) build my first system with a mixture of expectatives and dreams with my first AMD athlon XP , the system running well, before got the "great idea" to plug a Zoltrix Genie TV card for record South Park, everything is OK, so, i think that i abuse the luck, and a rainy night, i surf the net ( a XXX one... ATK... never forget that site after this) a electric shock enter trought the tv cable searching ground, someone that got this experience maybe feels a demon in a box, a white light come out from the back of the system and hit the isolated regulator ( with the sparks and all the stuff ) the light goes out and a tasty barbecue smell fill completly the room.
    ohhh...
    the list of cooking components:
       Athlon XP 1700+
       PC Chips 810 (a/v/r/s)
       Maxtor HDD 40GB
       Zoltrix Genie TV
       Mouse (generic)
       Keyboard (generic)
       Microsoft sidewinder gamepad
    The miracle pieces:
256MB DIMM sticks from crucial (PC 100) two of them
External CD Burner HP CD-Writer 8230e (USB)
       Philips Monitor 17'
i learn to never watch a porno site in a rainy night... it's really bad for your system
    build another system "da plan!"
in a trip to Bogotá i search in the computer mall called UNILAGO, the new system board, someone callit MOBO, my idea are this:
A Boxed Board. Candidates like ASUS , Gygabyte, MSI, with the VIA 333 chip are required.
we search in all the place, asus show its A7V333 model, but its too expensive in the price that this guy offered (maybe think that i don't search the pricewatch.com page before go to the mall... je je) in a place some guy show me a very nice box... i think the first impression counts, its the kt3 ultra board in her shiny box, next tactic ask for minimun price (...no minimun price got this board...) so i pay 360 thousand pesos for it.
wen come back to Cali ( the place i live) and after got some pesos in my bag i go to the computer mall in Cali called La passarella (remember the argentinian soccer player?) for buy the components.....
    the list is this:
Athlon XP 1800+ BOXED (got the original AMD heatsink)
       DDR RAM PC2100 256 MB
       Genius Netscroll Optic
       Genius Keyboard
       CD-Rom LG 52 X
Case with a 300W ATX Power Supply
       Realtek Ethernet Card (Encore)
AGP Video card with the SIS chip 315 128MB of ram
Genius Maxfire USB (i buyit for the cheap price and anyway i don't play too much in a computer so i dont need a Nvidia Ti thing or a gamepad expensive)
wen go to the house, plug all the stuff and the process it's fine, no complicate things occur, i do two modifications first
1)to the AMD heatsink, the clip come in the other side, so i need to unplug the Power ATX supply for attach it and don't want to do the same thing every time that retire the heatsink, i disarm the heatsink and turn the clip to the other side, no problems with this mod...
2)i don't use floppy disks... I HATE IT so the place of the floppy converts in the place for the D-Bracket with all the lights and two USB... nice because i perfored the case in the right way and the usb and the lights come in the front of the case...it's a easy mod...
all the things come well so turn it ON...
     KT3 Ultra first Round!
well i don' pay much attention in the first time that power on the system and hit the del key.... nothing happens and a letters of searching array and scanning devices show... after this process the amibios screen shows (the blue one, and still today don't find the option for change the color scheme like te PC Chips amibios options got) in this point i know that the rule "search the instruction booklet" it's totally necessary for many options the options that i disable and some that enable are this:
in integrated peripherals disable the ata raid option (remember the scan devices screen?) i plug a maxtor ATA 100 hard drive to the ide cable because don't know if this hard disk works with the Raid Option maybe not because is ata 100.. so disable the option
in power management options i activate the CPU critical temperature to 70°C
in advanced bios settings i enable the MSI link to the future screen... nice, SMART for HDD enable. In the boot secuence put first CD-rom and later HDD
in standard CMOS settings put the hour...(uh!), and obvious disable the nasty floppy drive (BOOT CDS REPLACE THE NEED OF FLOPPY DRIVES...)
in PC health disable the intrussion option, because i don't have the switch for the case...
in frecuency and voltage i find the FSB in 100Mhz but i don't change anything in this point...
after this tiny modification, i save the changes and restart....
the system boot with a CD he he... with a image of the win98 boot disk, so i formated and fdisk the drive... tooooo fast in this point.
after partition the HDD in 5 pieces and formating every partition, i reboot the computer for installing Win98...
the installation goes normal, and install all the MSI software (only for know what apps are appreciable por me) i don't have any problems, install all the drivers for every single hardware piece and the system works well... so testing es the next point.
KT3 Ultra first test after the installation
well i feel that my job are easyly...(ji ji) and all the process go OK so testing my new machine gotme like a child.
i run the test of SiS for the AGP card ( 3D thrill ) the demo of the card got a cosmic scene, comes very fast, i try to watch if someone piloting the space ship, and maybe see something
the sound are good for the include sound chip in the board, put and test all the effects and test...ok ok... nice.
microsoft direct X got some testings so i run it too ... write in run command "dxdiag" and ready for the tests, in this point i feel free to install a copy of "formula 1 2002" in the machine some guy borrowme a copy, wen i try to install got a n error.... (the first one) and the game don't install ... i reject the installation and try another game, in this point i search the Athlon XP Oem.bmp file for branding my new system... je je, and hit the window key and pause and i find that my processor runs in 1.1 Mhz... (what!!!) if this CPU is a 1800 and this speed maybe is wrong....so i read the boocklet and find in the FSB option the way for put the CPU in his real Mhz...(1.53) in this point begins the troubles...
     KT3 Ultra damage my CPU??????!!!!!
Wen enter to the bios i got direct for the FSB option and put it to 133Mhz maybe this thing it's easyly too, i think, i made and save the changes... and.....
A BLACK SCREEN COMES AND I SEE THE FOUR LEDS IN RED!!!!
AHHHH!,  i thinks that this processor pases to a better life after this point, with shaking hands  read again the boocklet and find the interpretation for the 4 red leds signal, damage or bad installed processor.
     oh, so what i do...?
i continue reading for a little FAQ in the boocklet, and nothing, only a glossary, i call a friend to helpme... ( the true geek one) the guy tell me to reset the bios with the jumper... so, i don't loose anything with this and do it...
wen the computer reboots the signals come to life... (ufff!) and the scanning device creen shows again... so i need to save again my settings.
i do all the things and save, the system turns on and windows 98 load normal again... i try to fix the FSB thing in other time i think, and continue intalling some programs.
In my CDs find a copy of formula 1 2001 no de 2002 version, because this version i installed in my other fried system i installed in mine for show and prove the 3d card...
the installation works fine and terminate ok, wen i hit the icon to play, the 3d settings window appears i select some options 800x600 32bit color and press test,  a blank screen comes with some little caracters, in some point wen the test come back my system frozes and nothing happens... OHHHHHHH! what happens?.... i think, i decided to check the temperature values because in this point think that my installation fails in the put heatsink process.
i load PC alert and find CPU temperature in 78°C... oh, it's too high i think so shutdown the system and check the heatsink for anything that miss in the first time.
i put again the heatsink an log to the bios for check the values....
this is the values of PChealth option in bios:
Cpu temp  : 71°C and stable in this value...it's high too
System Temp : 38°C ...high too
       VCore      1.744V
       +5.0V       5.038V
       +12V      11.923V
       -12V      -11.497
       -5V         -5.026V
       Batt      3.24V
       +5VSB      4.969
some ideas come to my mind and try to think if some options of the bios, the best performance option it's a good point to start i think so i select and save the changes...
oh, oh, the black screen comes again.... buuuuuu! and the four red leds too....buuuu!
mmmm, ....what i do?, what i do?....i reset again the bios, for the options and try to boot the machine again... maybe leave the system in the first point i think but nothing prepare me for the many "chorro" of errors thath follow after this point....
If i can roll back the time....
i think to be superman and fly in a oposite earth direction for roll back the time... (luisa!)
the system begins a non stop errors secuence  sometimes the four leds are red, sometimes tree leds red an the top right led green, in the book says this signal is for damage DDR ram...
wen windows 98 loads the system frozes in some points, and wen enter and run some test the system frozes too...
i reset the bios to the original form an try to leave the house excactly wen enter the first time... i save it and the errors continues...
with NO hope of correct by myself the issues i turn on my old K6II system and find the MSI forum that got some mysql errors
in the forum find the Power unit suplly issues, i got the ATX box and 300W maybe it's too low i think after MANY post with same errors like me, i think to made a program plan for recover the stability and my ideas come in the next point.
now need another message to continue....

Return the system to the "normal" or less stability
In the forum (thanks for the people thath participate) some people says issues of frozen systems because cheap ATX power supply, some other got problems with the heatsink, i think that a mixture of those issues gotme like mad and try to figure out the quality of a atx power supply that changes the performance after a bios setup... ( it's a very cheap ATX power supply, i think) the Power unit now don't support the energy, and power needs of the system in some cases wen i run the 3d accelerated test the system frozes wen i hit "test".
return today to the computer mall passarella, and buy this items:
Vulcano 7 (it's a building no, it's a airplane no,... it's vulcano 7 with speed sensor incorporated, much bigger than a building and more CFM than any airplane make!)
ATX power supply 400W for kicks power requeriments and maybe extract energy enough for a reading lamp...
wen come back to the house i install the new parts, the vulcano 7 needs the same mod than the other AMD one, or maybe MSI put the  sockect A protect clip layer in the wrong site, maybe the board fit well in a ATX-XL case for no uninstall the power unit to put the heatsink... anyway need to uninstallit but this issue it's funny.
wen everiting it's ok i turn on the system...
    KT3 Ultra Runs smooth... FINALLY
i know thath every body needs to listen a couple of help tips, in this point i think that logged to the forum are the best idea that i got, many people got the same problems and if you don't ask or search you think thath the MSI board it's a terrible board, and this no true, and because it's red too.
the system loads normal and i think to go up the FSB to the NORMAL 133 value for this athlon XP 1800+ i change the values, save and reboot the first thing that i find are the bios recognize the Amd Athlon XP 1800+ in the first black screen ( wen disables da logo) later, web hit windows key+ pause the window says Athlon XP 1800+, in the fuzzy logic app i find the values of 1523 Mhz and the temperature don't rises 50°C it's now OK, better than the cooking eggs thing that got before the changes.
now i need to give some thanks..
    Thanks
to all the people in the forum, i don't write a nice english but i know read and it's enough for take a easy living style with this machines...

  • KT3 Ultra 2 with Inno3d NVIDIA Geforce2 mx400 problems

    Having multiple problems playing games.
Get this in event viewer (below) or the application will crash or get
    DSOD.
    STOP 0x0A, 0x01E, and 0x50 Errors. (IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source:     nv
    Event Category:   None
    Event ID:   8
    Date:       30/09/2003
    Time:       10:33:43
    User:       N/A
    Computer:   HOMEPC
    Description:
    Idle Timeout Error Channel 00000001.
Some times it also complains about specific files such as ntoskernl.exe or nv4_disp.dll, but more often than not it wont complaine about files on the BSOD.
Tried all drivers and drivers from NVIDIA (including generic).
Read loads of forums about changing "Advanced Chipset features" in BIOS and
downloading the latest via chipset drivers and running 3dmark benchmarks which crashes to desktop eventually.
BIOS has been flashed with the latest from the website.
I have run system diagnostics to make sure memory / processor are not
    faulty which they are not.
I have even re-installed my OS to make sure there are no corruption but I still get the same problems.
This happens on multiple games. I have also installed the NVIDIA version of
graphics card which I borrowed and had exactly the same problem.
    Here is my PC details:-
    AMD Athlon 2100XP
    MSI - KT3 Ultra 2 motherboard.
Dane Elec 256mb DDR 2100 ram
    120GB WD HDD
    Inno3d NVIDIA Geforce 2 MX400 with 64MB
    HP CDRW
    DVD ROM
    With a 400w power supply.
All my hardware is approved for use with AMD processors with higher spec's than mine.
Based on the fact that I have used another NVIDIA card in my PC plus rebuilding the OS, and got the same problems, I would say that there is a problem with the motherboard or BIOS settings.
I'm more inclide to think it the motherboard as I have tried lots and lots of variations.
Are there any tools to check the motherbaord?
Has anyone come across these problems? I know that the games themselves can sometimes cause these, but I have checked to make sure I have patches installed and checked forums to see if other people suffer the same thing. But they don't.
And 3dmark which crashes to the desktop whilst running through the tests must be another indication of problems. (Already checked for patches for 3dmark too)
I know this is a forum, but i can't seem to find an offical way to complain to MSI. If any one knows, please send us a link!

It looks as though this could be one of those classic cases where it could simply be overheating.
I purchased a AXP2100BOX product when I first built my PC. This is an AMD package that contains the processor and the heatsink.
However through my painstaking troubleshooting tactics, I think that the problem is where it overheats.
The reason that first lead me to think that it could be this is because I downloaded the MSI core centre application and click on the Auto button. By doing this, the software automatically overclocks the processor, bumping up the FSB slowly. Eventually, it blue screens. I read somewhere that this is normal, just restart and the MSI software will now know what limits there are for over clocking.
Well the error code that I got from the blue screen it produced, was not that different from the errors I get whist playing games.
    IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
The error codes were different but it was still the same IRQ message.
So I had a look around on the web to find out as much as possible about AMD's overheating and stumbled across reviews for " AXP2100BOX ", the processor/heatsink box product. All the reviews I came across said that there was a problem with overheating. I did check out reviews before I purchased the box product, but at the time it was fairly new.
According to the AMD website, my processor is guaranteed to run up to 100'C.
Now my processor runs at about 65'C on load, BUT this reading is from the fan on top of the heatsink, not the processor itself.
So that's the theory so far. So can anyone recommend this biggest, bestest, and probably the most noisiest, heatsink you can buy.
I'm also looking into changing my case as there are some nifty air shifters out there.

  • Problems with KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)..please help

    Hey all-
    Here is my system configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra MS-6380E) motherboard
    AMD Athlon 2100+ XP cpu
    (2) 512mb PC2700 DDR ram (1 gig total)
    (2) 120gb Western Digital 7200rpm Harddrives (240gb total)
Nvidia Geforce Ti 4600 video card
Creative Labs Sound blaster Audigy Platinum
    LG 32x10x40 CDRW
    16x DVD ROM
    400 watt power supply
    Here is my problem:
Just built the machine, checked every plug and everything and when I turn on the machine I got no screen, no post, no beeps, nothing.
So I turned the machine, and cleared the CMOS.  Turned the machine back on and got post , went into the BIOS, set the time, date, yada yada, all the drives were detected fine.  I went in the Frequency/Voltage Control screen and the "CPU FSB Clock" was set to 100 mhz, "CPU Ratio" was set to Auto as was the "CPU Voltage, DDR Voltage, and AGP Voltage".  I saved settings and rebooted but then I didn't get a screen, no post, no beeps.
I tried clearing CMOS again, turned machine on, got back in the BIOS just fine.  I tried setting the CPU FSB Clock to 133mhz and left everything else on Auto.  Rebooted and once again ..nothing.. no screen.
I don't understand what the problem could be.  It seems that I can only get a screen when I clear the CMOS.  But even if i use the "Load BIOS Setup Defaults" or even the "Load High Performance Defaults" I still get no screen or anything when I reboot.
Can anyone help me here?  I have never run into this before.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Joe

If it is only doing it when you turn your bus speed of 100 up to 133 for the xp processor then I have had the problem.  If you are booting with a bad cpu that isn't working properly (can't run at 133)  then the computer will not POST.  As soon as you clear the cmos it sets the speed back down to 100 for failsafe.  If you try to boot a duron processor like a 700 or something on fsb 133 then the motherboard won't post.  Make sure you don't have a duron processor instead of a athlon xp or a bad cpu.  I would recommend taking it to the place you bought it or else an autorized amd spot.  They should be able to throw in another proc and check it out.

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!
