KT3 Ultra cdrom problem
Ive been having some problems getting my cdroms, or any cdroms for that matter to work correctly on my KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E). The bios recognizes exactly what my drives are boots, and both windows and dos recognize that they exist but 99% of the time they will not read any cd's. They have this problem no matter which IDE channel i plug them into, but my hard drives have no problems at all in either channel. I've tried changing the IDE cable, plugging in only one drive at a time, messing with the master/slave settings, resetting my bios, updating my bios, drop kicking my computer and lots of other stuff.
Im almost certain that the problem is not with my cdroms because i dont see how they would both break at the exact same time and a third cdrom i tried from another computer would have the same problem. Im also fairly certain it is not a software problem because i have reformated, repartitioned, cleaned my MBR and virus scanned 900 times. I also have the same problem even with my hard drives unplugged completely and booting off a boot disk.
I dont see anything else that could be causing the problem besides perhaps a faulty motherboard but i cant find anyone that even has the slightest clue what is wrong, or any reference to any similar problems anywhere online. Does this sound like a something a motherboard problem could be causing? Here are my system specs:
MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)
Athlon XP 2000+
256 mb crucial pc2100 DDR SDRAM
GeForce3 ti200 64mb
SB Live! Value
Netgear NIC
40 GB samsung hdd
60 GB seagate hdd
the cd roms currently in my computer are a RICOH 4x4x8 burner and a generic 56x. Ive asked a ton of people and have been trying to fix this problem myself for months. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks.
80 wire ide blue end to board
tried them 1x 1 as some drives just will not pair up
does bios see them right,is that ide on auto
try as this guide as well

i have just bought a kt3 mobo and am having some serious problems getting it to work properly.
the 1st problem is my cd burner or dvd will not install anything. if it is allowed to autorun it will stop giving various errors. and if i install by clicking setup.exe the same happens. also it sometimes restarts the computer.
i have plugged in an old cdrom which seems to work fine.
the 2nd problem is my broadband connection. i am using an alcatel usb modem and i cannot get it to connect to the computer.
i install all the drivers first then plug it in, it then says it found the modem and is installing it and completes with your hardware is now installed.
all that happens now is the lights on the modem looks like its going to work but then goes off then back on again.
this goes on for as long as its connected.
i am using :
windows xp
amd 1200 thunderbird
256 ram
400 watt power supply
kt3 ultra
ibm 80 g.b deskstar
i have also been swopping componants with my other computer and i know everything is working fine.
i hope someone can help because i have been trying for 10 days now to get everything running and i am pulling my hair out.
many thanksHi i have been having problems with my adsl cuting off and the modem lights paling up a reset will usually work to get it connected again. I am using an external sagem adsl modem and the power draw for it is 400ma, most other usb devices only draw between 2 - 10ma. This can cause the computer to hang and the modem to disconnect. To fix this buy a self powered usb hub that is capable of more than 500ma per port this will eliminate the problem. As for other power issues i have 3 cdroms 2 of which are writers i have a gforce 4 vido card network card and have had no advers affects from power other than the USB problem hope this helps

KT3 Ultra BIOS problem + question
Hi
after switchin on the CPU Halt command detection. My PC beeps 3 times after shutting down. D-LED says memory problem. When I turn off the PSU and after a while turn it on, everything is OK and PC boots normally. Does anyone know the reason of the beeping??
Question: has somebody tried (somebody very rich to afford buying Barton) Barton (or T-Bred FSB333) processor on KT3 Ultra??
thx a lot )Hi,
Switching on CPU HALT Command will make your system unstable. That's the message of the beeps.
You should be able to improve this by using a better PSU. Otherwise, there is no reason of using CPU HALT command as there are many software CPU Coolers you can get. -
[VIA] KT3 Ultra 2 Problem
"My KT3Ultra2 won't start ... there's no beep or picture shown on my screen.
The D-Bracket LEDs shows : "Initializing Hard Drive Controller" (two red on the up side, and two green on the down side).
i removed the HDD and it's worked on my other system.
can anyone advice me what should i do ??
Thank you so much.Quote from: Grayone on 09-January-06, 15:26:35
Sorry, I missed the first line about it not posting. Sleepy, I guess.
Swapping parts like the video card between the two systems will eliminate that possibility since it could be power supply or cpu or video card that stops the boot process before it can initialize the hard drive controller.
Please furnish us more information about what parts are in the system? Create a profile containing info similar to I have in mine. The info will make troubleshooting much easier.
hi mate, thanks for the fast replies.
i had done all the sweaping of parts from one system to another. as for the power supply is a new one.
my system is using MSI KT3 Ultra 2 (MS-6380) running on CPU AMD 2100+
Ram is Kingston PC2700 333Mhz 512MB.
A Maxtor HDD 40Gig.
A creative Sound Card.
lastly a Benq CDRW. -
my problem started after i ordered 2 crucial pc2700 512mb for my kt2 ultra board. after removing my old 256mb pc2700 kingston stick form the 1st slot, i put the crucial and slot 0 and 1 and booted. my comp started beeping and the flshing thing on the back indicate a memory error. so i turn it off and move the sticks to 0 and 2 booted again and now boots up fine. going into windows to check my 1gb memory and windows only display 512mb 1/2 of wut i have. so move the stick to 1 and 2 and still 512mb not 1gb. clear cmos, flah bios, unplugg power supply to mobo still the same problem. i remove all the memory and thought maybe ill use 768mb for now put the 256mb on slot 2 and 512 on slot 1 and windows registered it at 256mb not 768.
can somone plase help me??
my power supply specs if this helps

GOD! where do i start,........just bought a system based around a KT3. ive had it about 4 weeks, running fine.then gradually things have started to go wrong.....reboots,freezes,cd access crashes, blue screens of every code under the sun! so i thought no bother ill reinstall......bad Move. ME crashes half a dozen times durin install and i end up with unstable desktop. so i tryed XP...not a chance! ive played with the bios settings for hours on end to no avail,so now im thinking whats the score ere like?some one just got to help me,before the shopkeeper gets it over his head!
So now i deffo think its hardware...the question is what! writing this on mangled explorer,nodrivers installed,sick as a parrot XP2000+ 500meg 80gig 7200 350wpower+5v +3.3v
25a 15a
coolers sat right way round, fuzzy,s always gave me 49c average cpu ,although i tend to get abetter install from cold boot....maybe the shop used cack paste,i dunno....ive been thinking it was a heat problem, my system gets worse as it goes along.
its still under warranty so ididnt want to start leaving nasty evidence of my intrusion(scrape scrape)just needed some ammo to take to the shop.i dont really want to get into that'weve fixed it routine'....or 'nowt wrong with that mate' etc etc shops tend to give you.
any more pointers would be welcome ........ ;( thanks -
Hey, all.
I recently had to reinstall Windows on a custom built system-everything came back OK excpet for the onboard sound. According to the device manager, these were several driver conflictions (including MPU-401), which I fixed with the latest drivers I could find. However, the sound still isn't working.
For some reason, every now and then on startup, the system detects "new" hardware, namely:
VIA standard PCI to ISA bridge
PCI host bridge
VIA standard CPU to PCI bridge
for all of these, the only driver it can find is Viamech.inf in C:\system.
I tried buying a new sound card (Hercules Muse LT) and no joy with that, either, so I'm assuming it's a problem witha driver somewhere along the line.
Any ideas?Hey, guys-thanks for all your help-I finally got the sodding thing working!
I bit the bullet and reinstalled Windows (with the new sound card installed, hoping my system would use that as default over the onboard chip). First thing I did was run the latest 4-in-1....and got the exact same error messages with the drivers!
You can imagine what I was like ( ), and I started clicking angrily through the browse button, getting increasingly annoyed at the "Dunk!" error sounds coming from my PC, so I turned the sound volume down.
Hang on....error sounds?!!?!?
Hooray! -
After working fine for several months I've started having issues with my video card. Running Win XP, I'll have a video lockup, which Windoze occasionally recovers from saying there was a device failure, or a reboot indicating a possible hardware failure on reboot. The error message always blames the video driver. I've tried 2 different cards -- an MSI G4 4400 and an ATI Radeon 7500 I bought just to test, with the same results.
The box has an XP 1800, it was overclocked just a wee bit to 137 FSB. I've taken it down just now to see if that could be the problem, but I doubt it somehow.
I'm wondering if it might be a short of some kind. The only brass stands I'm using match up fine with the screw holes in the motherboard, but I'm not using any insulating washers as the case instructions didn't call for any. I'm assuming the screw holes on the motherboard are insulated, but the appear to be cased in metal. Can anyone tell me if this or something else may be the problem?Tragically I've still had no luck. Considering I've tried 4 different sets of 4 in 1 drivers and had the EXACT same issue with each one I can't help but rule it out. I'm going to try leaving the case open tonight on the absurd suspicion that it's actually a temp issue (still reads 38cpu/30chassis so it shouldn't be).
I'm at a complete loss and would really appreciate any other suggestions. I don't think there's a hardware failure. I can't find any possible shorts on the board itself which would fit the symptoms. Argh! -
Kt3 Ultra reboot problem continued
my old post (last weekish)
Above is my old post. Someone at the end of that thread told me to write down my blue screen stuff before i reboot...so here it is:
I get one of these two usually
Up near the top it says this
"This problem is probably an issue with win32k.sys file
PAGEFAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA_
(further down)STOP:
Crazy stuff 0x00000af0f00a00 etc."
OR
"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(further down) *** crazy stuff 0x0x000300b0v00 etc.
***classpnp.sys"
sometimes it won't say eigther near the top....but almost always that's what it says. I just ordered a new Asus A7V333 for 140$ arrg...so I'll probably keep that if I can't fix this problem pretty soon.It seems we have the same problem taraturg. I saw your messages last week, and I have the same bluescreens.
They are like this:
STOP: 0x00000050
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
..........ntoskrnl.exe.....
...beginning dump of physical memory....
STOP: 0x000000D1
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
........v124nt.sys......
.......dump of physical memory.......
I have also run the memtest86 and after an hour or so there was no errors. My CPU temp are stable about 52-54 celcius. I run win2k with the latest updates, the latest bios(v5.6), the latest drivers. Everything you can get(!) And still this ( ) isn't working. What's wrong? -
Last month I built my first PC for my brother. Everything has been working well up until today. The problem I have is that the monitor is displaying "No Video Input" When I boot up the PC there are no Beeps! and the system does not go to POST. I have had a look inside and there is no obvious problem, any help would be appriciated.
ChrisI tried what you suggested, took everything off the Motherboard, removed the CMOS battery and reset the jumper. I waited about 1 hour, and then put it back together with the minimum setup. Power on green lights on the D-bracket then red, going through the boot process, then it stops on three red's one green, which according to the manual means "the memory module is damaged or not installed properly", so I move the stick to the next slot, reboot and it goes back to the original problem two reds on top two green's on the bottom "initialising hard drive controller" and it stuck on that again from power on. Any further suggestions?

Did you try to put the MSI cdrom in there and wait upto 2 minutes until the menu appears?
Well I use to have a CreativeLive sound card from the begining so at the begining the sound on board was disable. But now I have a second computer and I put the creative on that one and I want to enable the sound, this is the point when the big surprise show up.
I have 2 MSI cd's one from this motherbordand one from an older one. When I lunch this cd on the driver section of the autorun I have only a Realtek Network adapter (which I have one already instaled), but if I browse the CD I can find a sound/via/4****? directory with a setup file. If I lanch the install it says "you don't have a Via Cipset" well it's a preaty BIG via on it. If I use the old cd I have 3 options one via cipset drivers 1 realtek network and one Via Audio Drivers but bought via drivers are disable like they are already instaled. If I lanch the Via Audio Drivers says "The VIA chipset is disable please run BIOS and Enable it" or somthing like that, so as I see it it's a BIG problem with the BIOS or the Hardware.
sorry for this to long story -
Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem
I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothingmhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work , i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free :P !!! -
KT3 Ultra-ARU SB Live! problem when using onboard Promise MBFasttrak 1
Hello !
I have one little problem with my motherboard. I know it's a little bit older compared to today's MSI production.. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard. I used only VT8233A southbridge's IDE until now, and everything worked perfectly. But now, I bought two Maxtor 80GB disks and placed them to a onboard Promise MBFasttrak 133 Lite (PDC20276) RAID in stripping mode. Everything works, except Soundblaster Live!. The soundcard itself works normally, but when I start to copy some files (and have some MP3's or video's running) the audio gets distorted in rythm with data transfer. I checked IRQs or address spaces, but IDE is on another IRQ than any other device, the same is address space. Had anyone the same experience with this "problem" ? Please let me know...
My configuration:
MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
256MB RAM DDR 333
2x Maxtor DiamondMax 9 80.0GB
nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
ATi TVWonder
RTL8029 ethernet card
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
Teac CD-E540 cd-rom
Sony DRU-190A cd-rwHi,
I think you should install at least the VIA RPP patch (http://www.viaarena.com), maybe also the patch from http://www.georgebreese.com.
