KT3 Ultra memory problem

my problem started after i ordered 2 crucial pc2700 512mb for my kt2 ultra board. after removing my old 256mb pc2700 kingston stick form the 1st slot, i put the crucial and slot 0 and 1 and booted. my comp started beeping and the flshing thing on the back indicate a memory error. so i turn it off and  move the sticks to 0 and 2 booted again and now boots up fine. going into windows to check my 1gb memory and windows only display 512mb 1/2 of wut i have. so move the stick to 1 and 2 and still 512mb not 1gb. clear cmos, flah bios, unplugg power supply to mobo still the same problem. i remove all the memory and thought maybe ill use 768mb for now put the 256mb on slot 2 and 512 on slot 1 and windows registered it at 256mb not 768.
can somone plase help me??
my power supply specs if this helps

  • KT3 ULTRA MEMORY UPGRADE

I had for necessity run PC2100 memory in my KT3 Ultra. I was running 1 256m stick and just upgraded to 2 256m PC2700 sticks.  I am getting a config file missing problem and it won't boot. Is there something I need to do to reset the board for the memory? Thanks

I was wondering what CPU you were using as I had an XP2100 till a week ago and I was using DDR 2100. I then upgraded to an XP 2600 with DDR 2700. It work fine for about 24 hours and then I decided to overclock using fuzzy logic and the machine locked up the moment I hit auto. After rebooting the machine wouldn't load windows and I noticed that I was getting a page fault so I decided to try putting the old memory back in and it works fine. The DDR 2700 does not seem to be faulty as it works fine in my brothers system. The other odd thing is that the DDR 2100 is now running at 333Mhz without any problems. Any idea as to why DDR 2700 won't work and DDR 2100 does?

  • KT3 Ultra BIOS problem + question

    Hi
after switchin on the CPU Halt command detection. My PC beeps 3 times after shutting down. D-LED says memory problem. When I turn off the PSU and after a while turn it on, everything is OK and PC boots normally. Does anyone know the reason of the beeping??
Question: has somebody tried (somebody very rich to afford buying Barton) Barton (or T-Bred FSB333) processor on KT3 Ultra??
    thx a lot  )

    Hi,
Switching on CPU HALT Command will make your system unstable. That's the message of the beeps.
You should be able to improve this by using a better PSU. Otherwise, there is no reason of using CPU HALT command as there are many software CPU Coolers you can get.

  • Kt3-ultra big problem

i have just bought a kt3 mobo and am having some serious problems getting it to work properly.
the 1st problem is my cd burner or dvd will not install anything. if it is allowed to autorun it will stop giving various errors. and if i install by clicking setup.exe the same happens. also it sometimes restarts the computer.
i have plugged in an old cdrom which seems to work fine.
the 2nd problem is my broadband connection. i am using an alcatel usb modem and i cannot get it to connect to the computer.
i install all the drivers first  then plug it in, it then says it found the modem and is installing it and completes with your hardware is now installed.
all that happens now is the lights on the modem looks like its going to work but then goes off then back on again.
this goes on for as long as its connected.
    i am using :
    windows xp
    amd 1200 thunderbird
    256 ram
    400 watt power supply
    kt3 ultra
    ibm 80 g.b deskstar
i have also been swopping componants with my other computer and i know everything is working fine.
i hope someone can help because i have been trying for 10 days now to get everything running and i am pulling my hair out.
    many thanks

Hi i have been having problems with my adsl cuting off and the modem lights paling up a reset will usually work to get it connected again. I am using an external sagem adsl modem and the power draw for it is 400ma, most other usb devices only draw between 2 - 10ma. This can cause the computer to hang and the modem to disconnect. To fix this buy a self powered usb hub that is capable of more than 500ma per port this will eliminate the problem. As for other power issues i have 3 cdroms 2 of which are writers i have a gforce 4 vido card network card and have had no advers affects from power other than the USB problem hope this helps

  • KT3 Ultra cdrom problem

Ive been having some problems getting my cdroms, or any cdroms for that matter to work correctly on my KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E). The bios recognizes exactly what my drives are boots, and both windows and dos recognize that they exist but 99% of the time they will not read any cd's. They have this problem no matter which IDE channel i plug them into, but my hard drives have no problems at all in either channel. I've tried changing the IDE cable, plugging in only one drive at a time, messing with the master/slave settings, resetting my bios, updating my bios, drop kicking my computer and lots of other stuff.
Im almost certain that the problem is not with my cdroms because i dont see how they would both break at the exact same time and a third cdrom i tried from another computer would have the same problem. Im also fairly certain it is not a software problem because i have reformated, repartitioned, cleaned my MBR and virus scanned 900 times. I also have the same problem even with my hard drives unplugged completely and booting off a boot disk.
I dont see anything else that could be causing the problem besides perhaps a faulty motherboard but i cant find anyone that even has the slightest clue what is wrong, or any reference to any similar problems anywhere online. Does this sound like a something a motherboard problem could be causing? Here are my system specs:
    MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)
    Athlon XP 2000+
256 mb crucial pc2100 DDR SDRAM
    GeForce3 ti200 64mb
    SB Live! Value
    Netgear NIC
    40 GB samsung hdd
    60 GB seagate hdd
the cd roms currently in my computer are a RICOH 4x4x8 burner and a generic 56x. Ive asked a ton of people and have been trying to fix this problem myself for months. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks.

80 wire ide blue end to board
tried them 1x 1 as some drives just will not pair up
does bios see them right,is that ide on auto

Sorry, I missed the first line about it not posting.      Sleepy, I guess.
Swapping parts like the video card between the two systems will eliminate that possibility since it could be power supply or cpu or video card that stops the boot process before it can initialize the hard drive controller.
Please furnish us more information about what parts are in the system?  Create a profile containing info similar to I have in mine.  The info will make troubleshooting much easier.
hi mate, thanks for the fast replies.
i had done all the sweaping of parts from one system to another. as for the power supply is a new one.
my system is using MSI KT3 Ultra 2 (MS-6380) running on CPU AMD 2100+
    Ram is Kingston PC2700 333Mhz 512MB.

  • Kt4 ultra memory problem

Hey guys, hopefully someone here can recommend some help!  I have the kt4 Ultra motherboard and i've had it for about 8 months.  I have an amd 2600+ and up until now i've had 2 256mb 266mhz micron ddr ram chips in it.  I added a 512mb 266mhz crucial memory chip today.  No matter what I do it will never recognize more than 512mb ram.  I can just run the 2 256mbs and it recognizes 512, i can just run the new 512 and it recognizes fine, if i put all 3 in (or the 512 and one 256) it reads 512.  Everything runs ok, no lockups no reboots anything like that, but i'm out 512mb of ram.
I flashed the bios to the newest version but still no help.
I have the bios set to "spd" and i tried playing around with those numbers but it didn't help.
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks in advance!

Yes I am starting to realize that I never should have tried mixing brands.  I attempted what you said and its recognizing the 512 only.  Any suggestions (besides eating the 15% restocking fee and sending the new one back)?

  • KT3 Ultra memory error on POST

I posted this problem to the MSI newsgroup a while back.  I got some help, but was not able to resolve the problem.  Now I'm trying these forums.
I have a strange, annoying problem:
When my system shuts off in normal mode, it locks on memory test next startup.  After the failed boot, it will start after the power is cycled.
It does not fail if the shutdown is from a crash (ctr alt del).
It is not windows, I have tested it with a boot disk without starting windows - same behavior.
It is not that power to power supply is not shut off.  If I cycle power BEFORE the failed boot, the boot still fails.
It is not the memory, I have confirmed the memory works in another system, and I have tried other memory in this system with same results.
It is not the power supply, I switched it out with another and same results.
I have removed all PCI cards, and the problem still happened.
    My system:
    XP 1700+
    512 M crucial PC2100
    350 W Antec PS
    Please help.

    I have the same problem,
however, if i turn off the power supple after i turn off the computer, and then the next time i wanna use the computer, i turn them both on, it works fine
but if i forget to turn off the PSU, and turn on the computer the next time i get the beeps and i gotta reboot
some have said switching powersupplies fixes the problem, some say switching ram fixes it
i say a bios update should fix it

  • Kt3 Ultra reboot problem continued

    my old post (last weekish)
Above is my old post.  Someone at the end of that thread told me to write down my blue screen stuff before i reboot...so here it is:
I get one of these two usually
Up near the top it says this
"This problem is probably an issue with win32k.sys file
    PAGEFAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA_
    (further down)STOP:
    Crazy stuff 0x00000af0f00a00  etc."
    OR
    "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(further down) *** crazy stuff 0x0x000300b0v00 etc.
    ***classpnp.sys"
sometimes it won't say eigther near the top....but almost always that's what it says.  I just ordered a new Asus A7V333 for 140$ arrg...so I'll probably keep that if I can't fix this problem pretty soon.

It seems we have the same problem taraturg. I saw your messages last week, and I have the same bluescreens.
    They are like this:
    STOP: 0x00000050
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    ..........ntoskrnl.exe.....
    ...beginning dump of physical memory....
    STOP: 0x000000D1
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    ........v124nt.sys......
    .......dump of physical memory.......
I have also run the memtest86 and after an hour or so there was no errors. My CPU temp are stable about 52-54 celcius. I run win2k with the latest updates, the latest bios(v5.6), the latest drivers. Everything you can get(!) And still this ( ) isn't working. What's wrong?

  • KT3 Ultra 2 Problem ?

Last month I built my first PC for my brother. Everything has been working well up until today. The problem I have is that the monitor is displaying "No Video Input" When I boot up the PC there are no Beeps! and the system does not go to POST. I have had a look inside and there is no obvious problem, any help would be appriciated.
    Chris

I tried what you suggested, took everything off the Motherboard, removed the CMOS battery and reset the jumper. I waited about 1 hour, and then put it back together with the minimum setup. Power on green lights on the D-bracket then red, going through the boot process, then it stops on three red's one green, which according to the manual means "the memory module is damaged or not installed properly", so I move the stick to the next slot, reboot and it goes back to the original problem two reds on top two green's on the bottom "initialising hard drive controller" and it stuck on that again from power on. Any further suggestions?

  • KT3 Ultra-sound problem

    Hey, all.
I recently had to reinstall Windows on a custom built system-everything came back OK excpet for the onboard sound. According to the device manager, these were several driver conflictions (including MPU-401), which I fixed with the latest drivers I could find. However, the sound still isn't working.
For some reason, every now and then on startup, the system detects "new" hardware, namely:
VIA standard PCI to ISA bridge
    PCI host bridge
VIA standard CPU to PCI bridge
for all of these, the only driver it can find is Viamech.inf in C:\system.
I tried buying a new sound card (Hercules Muse LT) and no joy with that, either, so I'm assuming it's a problem witha driver somewhere along the line.
    Any ideas?

Hey, guys-thanks for all your help-I finally got the sodding thing working!
I bit the bullet and reinstalled Windows (with the new sound card installed, hoping my system would use that as default over the onboard chip). First thing I did was run the latest 4-in-1....and got the exact same error messages with the drivers!
You can imagine what I was like ( ), and I started clicking angrily through the browse button, getting increasingly annoyed at the "Dunk!" error sounds coming from my PC, so I turned the sound volume down.
    Hang on....error sounds?!!?!?
          Hooray!

  • KT3 Ultra video problem

After working fine for several months I've started having issues with my video card.  Running Win XP, I'll have a video lockup, which Windoze occasionally recovers from saying there was a device failure, or a reboot indicating a possible hardware failure on reboot.  The error message always blames the video driver.  I've tried 2 different cards -- an MSI G4 4400 and an ATI Radeon 7500 I bought just to test, with the same results.
The box has an XP 1800, it was overclocked just a wee bit to 137 FSB.  I've taken it down just now to see if that could be the problem, but I doubt it somehow.
I'm wondering if it might be a short of some kind.  The only brass stands I'm using match up fine with the screw holes in the motherboard, but I'm not using any insulating washers as the case instructions didn't call for any.  I'm assuming the screw holes on the motherboard are insulated, but the appear to be cased in metal.  Can anyone tell me if this or something else may be the problem?

Tragically I've still had no luck.  Considering I've tried 4 different sets of 4 in 1 drivers and had the EXACT same issue with each one I can't help but rule it out.  I'm going to try leaving the case open tonight on the absurd suspicion that it's actually a temp issue (still reads 38cpu/30chassis so it shouldn't be).
I'm at a complete loss and would really appreciate any other suggestions.  I don't think there's a hardware failure.  I can't find any possible shorts on the board itself which would fit the symptoms.  Argh!

  • KT3 Ultra 2 Problems, help !!!

I just installed the my new KT3 Ultra2 mainboard but when I boot the screen stays blank and the diagnostics LEDs show 1 and 2 red, 3 and 4 green, meaning according to the manual : " Initialzing Hard Drive Controller" .  There it'll stop. The Harddrive itself is ok cause I tried it in my old comp. ...what could be wrong ?

ohh...I forgott, and it makes 2 long beebs !

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU + All In Wonder Problem

I've got a odd problem that is related to putting my machine into Standby.  If I do so the night before, then wake the system up in the morning I see issues that point to memory corruption or driver failure or a conflict with the VIA chipset.  Outlook Express will lock up on launch, the ATI digital VCR app will either not launch or fail to shutdown if it does.  I clean installed Windows XP, then updated it with XP SP1.  Of note is that the video card works ok with the OS supplied driver but if you install the ATI drivers (which are needed to make the TV and Digital VCR work) this stuff happens.  I have reinstalled several times so I am pretty sure this isn't just a messy config issue.  I've had bad experiences similar to this with VIA chipset mobos in the past so this doesn't surprise me.
Anyone ever see this?  Know of a fix?
