  • Problems with KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)..please help

    Hey all-
    Here is my system configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra MS-6380E) motherboard
    AMD Athlon 2100+ XP cpu
    (2) 512mb PC2700 DDR ram (1 gig total)
    (2) 120gb Western Digital 7200rpm Harddrives (240gb total)
Nvidia Geforce Ti 4600 video card
Creative Labs Sound blaster Audigy Platinum
    LG 32x10x40 CDRW
    16x DVD ROM
    400 watt power supply
    Here is my problem:
Just built the machine, checked every plug and everything and when I turn on the machine I got no screen, no post, no beeps, nothing.
So I turned the machine, and cleared the CMOS.  Turned the machine back on and got post , went into the BIOS, set the time, date, yada yada, all the drives were detected fine.  I went in the Frequency/Voltage Control screen and the "CPU FSB Clock" was set to 100 mhz, "CPU Ratio" was set to Auto as was the "CPU Voltage, DDR Voltage, and AGP Voltage".  I saved settings and rebooted but then I didn't get a screen, no post, no beeps.
I tried clearing CMOS again, turned machine on, got back in the BIOS just fine.  I tried setting the CPU FSB Clock to 133mhz and left everything else on Auto.  Rebooted and once again ..nothing.. no screen.
I don't understand what the problem could be.  It seems that I can only get a screen when I clear the CMOS.  But even if i use the "Load BIOS Setup Defaults" or even the "Load High Performance Defaults" I still get no screen or anything when I reboot.
Can anyone help me here?  I have never run into this before.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Joe

If it is only doing it when you turn your bus speed of 100 up to 133 for the xp processor then I have had the problem.  If you are booting with a bad cpu that isn't working properly (can't run at 133)  then the computer will not POST.  As soon as you clear the cmos it sets the speed back down to 100 for failsafe.  If you try to boot a duron processor like a 700 or something on fsb 133 then the motherboard won't post.  Make sure you don't have a duron processor instead of a athlon xp or a bad cpu.  I would recommend taking it to the place you bought it or else an autorized amd spot.  They should be able to throw in another proc and check it out.

  • KT333 - KT3 Ultra MS-6380E CPU FAN PROBLEMS

Yesterday I installed my new motherboard:
    Athlon XP2000+
    KT333 - KT3 Ultra MS-6380E
256Mb DDR RAM Running at 266Mhz
MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 64Mb DVI TV AGP Graphics
Everything was installed correctly and when I switched on my pc, the bios was reporting CPU FAN not running.
I checked my connection on the motherboard and it was correctly connected up to CFAN1.
After playing around abit, I tried connecting this to PSFAN1 and the FAN started spinning but the problem was still there.
Why does my motherboard Fan on CFAN1 not spin??? But spins on PSFAN1??
When my fan was on PSFAN1 it was also fluctuating but i guess thats because of my PSU which is 230 Watts (which i am going to upgrade today to 300W or 400W.
Also with kit installed how can i set up my bios to run at its best?????!?!?
    Please help...
    Mits

    Hi,
You probably have a high-speed-fan, and you blown the fan-header of the motherboard....
Fan's like these need to be connected to the powersupply directly and only connect the sensor wire to the motherboard....

  • KT3 Ultra(MS-6380E) Windows XP Compatibility...?

I had recently bought some new parts for my computer and everything seems to be compatible with each other even the store i bought the parts from told me everything is compatible.  I checked the compatibility of the new parts ive bought and they are all "compatible" so i dont believe what i am about to say is a hardware/hardware related issue but something else.  Im currently running windows 98se and eveerything is running fine.  My mother board is KT3 Ultra(MS-6380E) and my CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 1800+.  When I installed windows XP everything would work well for a while but when I would go to start shuntdown in XP the computer would more often restart itself than shut itself down.  and sometimes when i booted it up again it would have some blue screen with a STOP error. I dont currently have what the stop ERRORS were butthey prevented me from getting back into windows XP at all.  and sometimes the computer would say my mouse or keyboard is unplugged or  not responding sod have to unplug them restart replug them in and hope for the best.  Im wondering now what the heck is goin on here everything is compatible in windows98se and all my older(not so old) parts work in windows XP.  Is there some special drivers I need to get to make the KT3 Ultra(MS-6380E) work properly with Windows XP I dont recall I installed any new drivers for it but should that really matter WinXP detects the latest drivers doesnt it?  So anyway what is going on here I just want my computer that technically should work with Win XP to work with Win XP like it should.  Please answer my loooooong  post it would mean alot to me if I could get this issue figured out. any mroe hardware questions etc.. I can answer just email me at [email protected] or post behind this message.  thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Big problem with KT3 Ultra (ms-6380e v1.0) after flashing the BIOS (de

    Hello out there.
I have a real complicated matter with my Kt3 Ultra board.
Used to work fine, but after I flashed it with the latest BIOS (5.7), the board has this strange behaviour: when I clear the CMOS, the board boots up, when I change & save the settings, the board does not "come to life"(black screen & beeper silent).
It has also this weird problem: it shows garbage charaters on the voltage setting of the CPU. Instead of voltages (i.e. 1.750 etc. etc.) I have only "scrambled" strings.
I had MANY difficulties in upgrading the BIOS because the AMI-flashing utility kept telling me "bios protection enabled) (but there was NO bios-protect setting in the previous bios - I checked a zillion times)...but after trying with different revisions finally I made it.
I already tried everything (re-flashed older bios-es etc. etc.)and I'm starting to feel beat ... if you have any advice, please le me know.
It would be really SAD to put this great board in the garbage-dump....
      Bye,
    Wyk'03

im having problems with this board as well,
i had no problems with the flash,
    i did this...
    boot to win me floppy,
copy the flash files to ramdrive, flashed to latest bios..
now windows hangs when i have my ac97 audio enabled in bios...
    I WANT MY AC97!
hmmm can you get to a dos prompt from a boot disk?
try re-flashing with 1.0 again and then disable the cmos virus protection thingy, and yes it was there it was in the 1.0 bios on the main screen.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU 5.7 BIOS and SoudBlaster Cards - Audigy

I have flashed my BIOS to 5.7 Version and my sound card start to make a lot of noise (crackling) when play AC3 or DVD. If you dont want to use the new AMD CPU 333 FSB you dont need to flash the BIOS - I have Flashed to 5.6 again but, if you want to use a 333 FSB CPU you can flash the BIOS to version 5.7 and if have sound problems use the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets.
VIA chipset MotherBoard owners who have through all of the above and still have sound problems with their Soundblaster cards, might want to look into the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets - get it here:
    http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/
(scroll down the page there just a little to get to it).
There's also a similar page about resolving sound problems on Via chipset based computers here:

Since my chip is an unlocked, I cannot easily run it at the default, but I can underclock it. At 100x6.0=600mhz, USB does not work, as well as 100x12.5. Same with 133x6.0 and 133x12.5. It appears to make no difference underclocking or overclocking.
I downloaded the right BIOS listed on MSI's KT3 Ultra-ARU page. I don't think the BIOSes are different anyway, since the same files, changelog, and etc are also listed for the Ultra-2 board.
A thing to note, that this is the onboard VIA-controller USB ports doing this. My Ultra-ARU's NEC-controller USB 2.0 ports work fine in both Win2k and Linux if I hook my mouse and keyboard up in those. This is not an ideal solution for me though.

  • !! Help !! MSI KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E) No BIOS Prompt!!

Hi Guys, this may be really elementary to you folks, but I want to change the boot order in bios, so that my Acronis True Image boot disc will be recognized, but when I start my machine, there is NO message about pressing ANYTHING to enter into bios.  I've tried delete and esc anyway, to no avail, and I'm about to restart and try F2, but the screens flash past pretty quick, but not too quickly to see that there is NO prompt to enter BIOS at all..... is that expected, problematic??
Can I download a driver or something that will make the "press [ ] to enter setup" or "press [ ] to enter BIOS" prompt appear?
Failing that, is there anyway to force the system into BIOS without a prompt??

Are you using a PS/2 or USB keyboard? If USB try a PS/2 KB. Have you tried rapidly pressing 'Delete' right after power on? By that I mean don't immediately hold it down but press & release multiple times.
Good tip about the ps/2 keyboard, not that I've tried it yet, but I will tomorrow after I get my hands on one, and I'll let you know.  Thanks for the tip..... but I wonder, shouldn't it at least TELL me that there exists an option to go into BIOS?  Even if it doesn't there must be some way in I guess, so I'll try this tomorrow.  Thanks again.....

  • KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)

Someone that hava a clue? Bought a new XP2400+ (upgraded from a XP 1800) and i have some trubble.
First it coulden`t req the cpu, had to manually change FSB to 133. And IF i get in to windows (XP) and starts to ex play a game i shuts down. The temp is (idle about 32-34 degrees C) CPU cooler is a Spire FalconRock II and i have 4 chassi fans. Surfing the net is no problem, but play games then it shuts down.I have checked my pc2700 and they are working fine. I tried all the combinations in bios dram etc.
And when i down clock to a XP1800 it works   Could it be a bad CPU? I am pretty fed up with this problem. I know that my motherboard is getting old and i am going to buy a new one. But this motherbord is supose to handle up to XP2600+. I don`t know how with this moterboard beacuse i can`t change to FSB 166, it dosen`t exist in my bios anyway. So if any one have an idè please share

Is your BIOS the latest version (5.7 I believe)?  I have the same board and I know I can set the FSB as fast as 133 MHz.
Burners can eat up a lot of power, but it shouldn't be too bad when they're not actually writing to CD/DVD.  To see if the power supply is the culprit, try disconnecting the two burners and see if the problem still exists.  If so, then it probably is not the P.S.
One possibility is that the motherboard can't handle all the power requirements.  Your video card requires a significant amount of power, and the increased power needed by the new processor may be more than the motherboard is capable of distributing.  This shouldn't be the case, but one way to test this would be to put in an old video card with the new processor and see if any problems occur.

  • Troubleshoot Help! KT3 Ultra MS-6380E

    Hello Fellows!
I could use some help here with my computer, I am using a beat up ole computer and luckily I got the internet working here to do some researching for the problems with my computer.
I had my computer in sleep mode for a few hours and then the next thing it was the start up page. It would check the prime master... not detected, then prime slave...not detected. Then it would go to the next page to searching boot records and none of them are found. That is as far as I can go and a friend tried to help me do something about it and it seems like nothing is not reading the floppy disks. We have double checked everything and made sure everything was plugged in the right places. It also says that the IDE is not found or something like that. I have all of the IDE plugged in place. Is there a disk that I need to download to get that going or what can I do? Please help!!! thanks!!
    JJ

    Hello!
There is a SocketA forum around nearby, with some marvellous troubleshooters. Try there!
Edit after Stu's post: They have the best balls around.
Just a few simple things, then a question.
0 Please provide a bit more detail on your system. Processor, memory, and PSU specs are most interesting, but hard disks and CD/DVD:s would also be nice to know.
1 With a new mobo, but old hard disk, you need to do at least a Repair install of Windows. Preferably you should have as little as possible when doing this.
2 You should install the VIA drivers, known as 4in1. If you haven't got the install CD, you find it at www.viaarena.com and here, the motherboard's home page: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=11
It sounds as if you got a second hand mobo, is that so?

Ok i'm running a msi kt3 ultra aru motherboard with bios version 5.7
looking at the cpu charts i'm slightly confused. What I'm wondering is can I run an athlon 3000 processor on this board? I know its going to raise the bus speed up but I'm running pc2700 ram right now so I dont see that being a problem.
anyone either running a newer processor on this board, or who would know the answer, it would be appreciated....
    thx!

You guys rock. Thanks for the feedback. haven't made the purchase yet, got a friend that manages a compusa thats supposed to be getting me a deal, we'll see I guess....

    Hi,
The KT3-Ultra (-ARU) 5.7 BIOS will be released official this week...
Don't expect much changes over the last BIOS as there are very little.
As these are the only improvements:
Fixed AMD 2600+(266MHz FSB) CPU shown incorrectly
Fixed ATi8500 AGP card cannot be used

    Hi,
I know, it's only a bios trouble, infact on the MoBo page (at CPU support section) are tested processors till +2800/333mhz without problems, and my T-Bred goes easy at 166mhz. Barton have only 256k plus L2 than T-Bred...but why MSI dosen't make a bios with the official support to 333mhz? The KT3Ultra2 was reported officially (in old news from MSI) with 333mhz support. I'm very disappointed about this...  :(

  • KT3 Ultra 2R + Barton 3000+

    Hi all..
    Hope someone can help.
I have a KT3 Ultra 2R board with the following stats:
Athlon XP (Barton) 3000+ FSB 166 CPU
    CoolerMaster HHC-001 heatpipe H/sink with 80mm fan
    Antec 520W PSU
2 x 100 ATA Maxtor Viper 80Gb HDD's with 8Mb cache each in striped RAID array
    Asus TI 4600 Ultra 128Mb V/card
    Audigy S/card
    Lite-on CD/RW
    Lite-on CD/DVD
2 x 512Mb Corsair XMS 3000 DDR Ram (333 and above) with aluminium heat spreaders
    Lian-Li PC70 Tower case with 6 x 80mm fans
    Rounded cables throughout
    Win XP + SP1
    The Problem:
This system worked fine with an Athlon XP 2200 CPU and I read MSI's CPU support list and saw the KT3 Ultra 2 6380E supported the Barton XP 3000+ CPU's so I bought one.  :P
At first I had trouble booting on the 5.7 version bios, with the lock ups throught the bootup process. I reset the bois to the defaults and slowly worked up the settings using the recommendations in the forums.
At the moment, the system will boot up with fast command set to normal, no agressive DDR timings, 1T command disabled, fastwrite disabled, agp read/write disabled and SDRAM set to SPD (HCLK).
My 3DMark01 & 3DMark03 scores are lower than when I had the XP 2200 CPU installed and the SiSoft sandra results are the equivalent of a Athlon 2000. MSI says the board supports the Barton 3000+, but at what cost ???  :O
The system is very unstable and and requires on average 3 boots to boot up successfully. The 3DMark03 test often locks up mid way.
Any help or the settings MSI or you used to achieve their results would be VERY helpful. Please Help... ;(

I have had a similar problem running my kt3 ultra2 (non raid) at 166 fsb. In mid april I bought a 2600+ 166 fsb athlon to upgrade my system from a 1.2 ghz athlon. I bought some new pc2700 crucial ram to go along with the processor. I had also recently bought a radeon 9700 pro in late march, and a 1.2 athlon would just be a waste of this great vid card. I had been running fine with the radeon and the 1.2 athlon with the msi 5.7 bios and 4.43 via 4-in-1's.
I battled this problem for weeks. I bought a new antec 550 watt PSU, corsair xms 3200 ram, and new antec tower case trying to find out if the problem was ram, power or heat. I should also note that turning on spread spectrum helped a little in stability. Setting it to .50% made it stable in windows and games, but the computer would not turn on if shutdown unless I cleared the cmos. No setting besides this had any effect on stability. Even conservative ram timings. I was about to buy an Asus a7n8x when I realized that I had once run my old cpu and ram at 166 fsb when I had the 5.6 bios a couple of months back. I did not keep it like that in fear of damaging the ram while overclocked.
So I reflashed to 5.6 which still supported the 2600+. That finally worked almost perfectly, although I still have to keep spread spectrum at .25% to be stable (which is odd, people say that is supposed to hurt stability). So in my situation, it was the bios that was faulty. I have had some very ramdom crashes to the desktop (3 of them) in games and one hardlock with a blank bluescreen in unreal2. This is over a span of a month. So it is not perfect. It might be the display drivers causing this, which I have recently upgraded, or I might need to back off my ram timings which are at 2-2-2-5 which this ram can handle easily at 166. 3dmark has yet to crash. Prime 95 passed when I ran it for 30 minutes. Im going to run prime 95 today and see if it will run for like 12 hours stable. Im still looking into getting a new nforce 2 mobo, however (abit or asus).
I hope this helps your situation, you should give it a try. Although, the 5.6 bios does not support the 3000+. It might still work, it will maybe just not show up as a 3000+ in the bios, but as a 2.17 Athlon XP.
I think MSI should be made aware of this possible 5.7 bios fsb instability. Why spread spectrum seems to be related in my situation, is really odd also.
