KT3-ULTRA - Win XP won\'t install

I wonder if anyone can help...
My computer specs are here:
KT3 Ultra-ARU
XP 2000+ (not over clocked)
256MB DDR Ram
IDE0 - HDD1 Maxtor 40gb
IDE0 - HDD2 Maxtor 20gb
IDE1 - CD
IDE1 - CDRW
GeForce 256 (AGP)
SBLive!
Linksys Netgear 10/100 Mbps Network Card
56K modem.
I recently installed the above processor, board and RAM.  All works fine in the BIOS and looks ok.  Linux on the HDD2 boots fine and works without any problems.
However my Win XP installation wouldn't boot.  No problem I thought, same as all windows problems - reinstall - after transfering anything important to the linux partition.  Now when I try to reinstall Win XP everything looks ok up untill the final stages (entered product key, configured networking, just before it restarts for windows to run properly the first time) when a 'blue screen of death' appears informaing me that my system has been halted in order to protect itt.  Some meaningless (to me) memory addresses are displayed.  The message says to try again, run chkdsk, remove any newly installed hardware (obviously tricky...).
Any help on getting Win XP to install would be great, since I am in the middle of a big software project which has to be developed on windows....
I will check back soon to see if anymore info is needed.
Cheers
Chris

Could this signify deeper problms with the MB? possibly a reason XP wont install?
Would the poor PSU really cause windows to be unable to install?  It looks fine till the final stages when it is preparing to start windows for the first time.

It most probably be you have the floppy cables connected the wrong way. Flip it over on the floppy side and try again.

My new KT3 Ultra board works great in Win XP Home with one problem.  When I shutdown the computer using the XP interface the system shutsdown and restarts automatically instead of powering off the system like it should.
Also is there any way to put the system to sleep?  There are no connections on the MB for the sleep switch on the case.

  • KT3 Ultra + Win 2k SP2 = No Boot?

I recently thru a kt3 in my friend's computer and setup windows 2k.  Everything went fine.  Drivers loaded, stuff installed, etc.  When I put in SP2 or SP3 it installs fine.  It reboots and comes up to the second Win 2k loading screen and almost immediately gives me an error along the lines of:
    STOP: 0x0000007B (0x818B3150, 0xC000014F, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
    Inaccessable_Boot_Device
    Run CHKDSK /F
     :O
Does anyone else have any problems with the kt3 and Service Pack 2 or 3?  I haven't tried one yet, but i would expect the same results.  Also, I used the setup disk to get to a command prompt and tried running CHKDSK /F.  There is no "/F"  Brilliant, Microsnot.  Anyway, i'm open to any ideas.  Thanks

Don't think that that is the problem.. inaccessable boot device..
sounds like either the IDE driver or Promise Raid driver is busted..
Read on http://www.warp2search.com that there been problems with Promise ATA133 + SP3..
I have installed SP3 on 4 different machines and they all worked.. 3 Pros and 1 Advanced Server..
and in the advanced server there is a Promise TX2000 but I don't boot on that..
The other machines was 2 Compaq deskpros and a dual Xenon 2200Mhz Compaq W6000 workstation.. (at work...  8) )

  • Win XP Won't install, won't copy system files

    I'm putting together an A64 system w/ a WD 36gb raptor on sata1.
I've done all of the things posted on this board (changed bios settings, used the floppies to install the sata drivers during windows setup).  Everything is fine up until the xp setup is copying the setup files from the cd.  It stops at every other file and says that it can't copy that file.  Sometimes I can press enter and it will copy it on the second try but it always stops partway through and won't copy any more files.  I've tried 2 different windows xp pro cds, and i know my cd rom drive doesn't have problems reading the files.  This has only happened when I swapped out my WD 250gb ata drive for the sata raptor.
My power supplies (came with chieftec case from newegg) settings are as follows (as I've heard this may be a problem):
    +3.3V = 22.0a, +5v = 36.0a, +12 = 18a
I'd love any suggestions.  I've already flashed the bios to 1.2 and it doesn't seem to help.  Thanks.

I've taken one stick of ram out (it occured to me to do this just after i posted!), and it seems to be installing.  I am still getting the "cannot copy file" errors, but if i have it retry a couple of times, it will usually go through.  After that though, it still gives me "fatal errors" because it didn't copy all of the setup info onto the hd.
I was hesitant to put the system specs in my sig because i'm buidling this for someone else, but here they are:
    A64 3200+
    512 (1 stick) corsair twinx 3200LLPT DDR
WD 36gb raptor - connected to sata 1
    plextor dd rom drive
    floppy drive
and 2 case fans and the cpu heatsink/fan
Do you guys think that the power supply is the root of the problem as I've heard suggested?  I thought this Chieftec rated at 450W would be enough.  I will try and pick up a case with an Antec 380w PSU and try it out.  I know that it's not a problem with the cd because i've used it to install on the same system, except it was on a WD 250gb ATA drive.  Everything went fine on that installation.  I've only been having this problem when trying to install on the raptor through sata.

  • Win 7 won't install

I picked up Win 7 upgrade last night and tried to install it. First I tried removing original Bootcamp partition and doing a clean install and that didn't get work. I then re-installed Vista and tried to do an install on top of that and it didn't work either.
After reading I thought it may have ben because the Mac OS drives were still loaded so I downloaded and ran the app provided to unmount the drives and tried again and again it failed.
It always stumbles on the 3rd restart where I get a blue screen with a bunch of text on it and then it reboots, you don't even have time to read what the errors are. You can't finalise the install in Safe Mode so I am unsure what to do at this stage. I spent 5 hrs trying to install this last night and it looks like I will be sticking with Vista but any suggestions would be helpful as I wouldn't want to see money I spent on it go to waste. I was reading the updated install guide and because it was an upgrade I didn't believe I needed to create Bootcamp from scratch and could just intsll the upgrade on top of Vista. I did get the upgrade version of Win 7.
On another quick topic why is the Bootcamp 3.1 program a .exe file. I can't get it to work on imac or expand it. Stuffit Expander said the file was corrupt so maybe that is the problem as well.Hope someone can help or point me in the right direction.
    Thanks in advance

As I understand it the file that you have downloaded is to be applied while booted in the Windows partition before installing Windows 7.
Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
    The Forums are at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology. Here is a link;

Did they move your post while I was writing my comment? I thought that I encountered this post in the iMac forum!

  • KT3 Ultra ARU Slow HD Transfer Rates

    Hello,
First, please see my system information at the bottom of this message.
I have a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU motherboard and have installed a Maxtor ATA133 60GB hard drive with 2 MB cache.  The hard drive is jumpered as Master and is connected all by itself on the IDE1 ribbon cable.  On IDE2 I have a CDRW (Master) and a CD-ROM (Slave).  My other hard drive (WD 120GB ATA100 8 MB cache) is on IDE3 and is set up in RAID 1+0 stripe.
I recently ran the Sandra file system benchmark on my hard drives with what I think are very discouraging results.  My Maxtor drive on IDE1 scored 32 MB/s and my WD drive on IDE3 came in at 23 MB/s.  Those are some stinky results aren’t they?
I checked my Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and it indicates that for my Primary IDE Channel the current transfer mode for device 0 is Ultra DMA Mode 6.  I don’t know how to check the transfer mode on my IDE3 hard drive.
Question #1:  Are my 32 MB/s and 23 MB/s results slow for my hardware?
Question #2:  If these results are slow, how can I increase the transfer rates?
    Please help!
    Thank you!!!!
    My System
    AMD Athlon XP 3000+
    MSI KT3 Ultra ARU MOBO

    TTGI TT-350SS (350W) Power Supply
    PSU Ratings: +3.3V/28A +5V/35A +12V/16A
    Windows XP Home SP2

These tranfer rates seem fine for sequential read rates. The maxtor drive is at mode 6 and the WD should be at mode 5 if its ATA100.

  • New MSI KT3 Ultra 2 Raid Board Install

    Hi All
I have Just installed a new KT3 Ultra 2 Raid board and XP 2000+ CPU with 512MB Memory.
Problem is that since I installed this new Board CPU and memory my PC has been playing up a little, Mainly Adobe Premier 6.5 . The audio that I capture will not playback off the time line, but I can hear audio from the timeline on stuff I have downloaded from the web. Also Get weird message boxes pop saying that PC Alert or Fuzzy Logic are already loaded (buggered if I can find Fuzzy logic).
ALso CPU XP2000+ what is the operating speed of this Chip? I thought it was 1.6ghz, on boot up my PC claims it is running at only 1.2ghz.
Am I wright in saying that I need to totally reinstall everything fro scratch including win XP?
(sorry just put new board etc in on old install, slap wrist)

    Hi tazman,
It's not quite obvious from your explanation, but did you just install your new mobo, CPU and RAM without reformatting your Hard Drives and reinstalling the o/s?
If so, this is a big no-no. This can cause all sorts of headaches for you and you are lucky that your computer is able to run at all. First things first, backup all of your important data files, then reformat your entire hard drive(s) from scratch, ie fdisk to get rid of all partitions, re-establish your partitions, then format away.
Once this is done, you can reinstall your o/s, your updates, drivers and applications, etc. Not a particularly invigorating job but necessary I'm afraid. It all comes back to the UPnP activities where the o/s and your hardware become very much intertwined. All the best and have fun,  :D
    All the best,
    Dimal.

  • Kt3 ultra reboots when 1gb ddr memory is installed

My kt3 ultra mb reboots when more than 1gb ddr pc2100 samsung memory is installed.  boots through when 1 512mb ddr is installed or 1 - 512mb ddr - 1 - 256 mb ddr -  I want to put all (3) 512mb ddr for a total of 1.5GB but always reboots.  Im running 98se o/s.  I even tried win2000 and also xp home??  Any suggestions.  ??  Please help??

WIN 9X will recognize more than 512 MB ram but doesnt know what to do with it.XP or 2000 should run any amount your board can take. I seem to remember from a forum, either here or AMDMB.com or HardOCP that with this board you should do 2 sticks in the first and 3rd slot. I also seem to remember that this board was one of the few that Anand at Anandtech reviewed that ran ok with all 3 slots filled with memory.I can run my  Samsung PC 2700 at cas 2 fast settings with 1T command disabled all day long. With 1T enabled it's reboot city.Double check your settings with the setup sticky at the beginning of this forum.Maybe try other memory? Good luck

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU - Can\'t install W2K !!

I've just bought my first AMD powered rig and I'm not able to install W2K pro.   First let me say I'm not a computer novice and have been handling workstation/server hardware/software for years in the Intel world.
The failure happens at different places in the install, with different results.. sometimes while copying files the system freezes.. sometimes in the middle of a copy i get the BlueSOD... sometimes after copying files when booting into Windows 2000 for the first time the system just reboots to a black screen and is unable to find a boot partition... so we start over and the install deletes copied files and begins again.
    KT3 Ultra ARU
    AMD 2200+
    Corsair CMX512-3000C2
    Pri IDE M - Seagate ST313021A 13GB
    Pri IDE S - Sony CDROM CDU6111-F
    Sec IDE M - Asus CDRW 4012-A
    Sec IDE S - none
    Raid Disabled in Bios
Followed Mr.Steveo's guides for hardware installation, flashing BIOS from 5.4 (kept a copy) to 5.5.  No problems.
Followed Mr.Steveo's guide for BIOS settings, using his recommendations to the letter, then after failure changed  SRRAM freq: to HCLK+66 for 3000C2 ram... BUT still fails.
Additional detail - I lost my original W2KPro CD, and my copy is not bootable... so I'm creating a 2GB DOS partition and booting with a Win98 boot disk to get to the CD and running WINNT from there.
I've gone through the posts on both the AMDMB and MSI forums and seen some insightful suggestions... but nothing that exactly duplicates by problems.  Hopefully one of you bright bulbs will be able to light my way.  :D
When I get the BSOD I get different STOP errors:
    0x0000000A  IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(BIOS or Drivers using improper memory address)
    0x0000001E  KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(A kernel mode process tried to execute an illegal or unknown processor instruction)
    HELP !!

Back Rev'd the Bios to 5.4 but that didn't help.  Back to the forums...
Bas - Thanks for reminding me of the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid).  I had simplified the HW but was still altering the Bios settings to where I know they should be.
    WELL - I HAVE SUCCESS !!
In further research, (being new to this - remember?) I also find threads saying that I'm supposed to clear the CMOS/NVRAM using a motherboard jumper before powering up the board for the first time and after changing processors.  I don't know how accurate that is - maybe someone will be kind enough to elaborate.
I've asked Mr.Steveo in the AMDMB forums if he thinks this step needs to be included in his hardware installation guide.  I followed it religiously in my install and it doesn't mention doing this.
Anyway, I got the OS installed.  After that, I went back into the Bios and added all suggested settings.  I'm getting "2200+" in the boot screens and in the OS.
Now lets finish the install and see if we remain stable.  After several days of burnin, I'll OC some to see what I can get.
    Thanks Guys!!

  • Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?

Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?
As far as System Requirements go, they are the same for WIN 8 and WIN 8.1
    Sympton:
Windows 8.1 Installation DVD loads for some time, no circle of dots, then PC reboots
with quick flash of six lines or so of white text (on black backgound) @ 106 seconds
Needed to use Smart Phone video camera to capture
    Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button ...
    Error Code:0x000000C4
    Parameters:
    0x000...91
    0x000... F
    0xFFFFF800699C5A80
    0x00000000000000000
    0x00000000000000001
Presumably message is intended for frozen PC, hence 'hold down power button'
In this case it flashes and re-boots
Windows 8.1 Image loads quickly, flash and reboots PC, having corrupted boot entry
(thankfully not other entries in Boot Manager situated on Dell System Reserved Partition)
    PC Desktops affected:
    Dimension 5000 - shipped JAN'05
    RAM 4GB
    Intel Pentium 4 640 3.20Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    ATI Radeon HD 6450

    RAM 3GB
    Intel Pentium D 820 2.80Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    Intel 82945G WDDM 1.0
Both the above PC's Install and run Windows 8 without a hiccup
    Another 'ancient' machine, but unaffected:
    Precision 490 Desktop - shipped OCT'07
    RAM 4GB
    2 x XEON 5365 3.0Ghz
ATI HD 6450 (Now HD 7750)
All 8.0 & 8.1 clean Installs and Upgrades on this platform had no problems
Hope some of you can throw some light on this. What does WIN 8.1 do in the boot
process that WIN 8 does not?
And if anybody has encounterd this before...
Note to multi booters - keep or reinstall Dell or other System Reserved partition (PRI,Active)
EasyBCD/Windows Boot Manager held on this partition (eg. 350MB)
If it gets corrupted, you can Restore it, rather than Gigabytes of 1st Primary O/S
Also, it will solve a lot of problems, when manipulating/adding/backing up/restoring O/S's
    That's it, happy computing...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Running upgrade assistant (going to Store rejects CPU, but no details)
    Results in:
    X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support LAHF/SAHF.
X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support PrefetchW.
There are at least three Processor requirements that M'soft does not list for WIN 8.1
and it's fairly well documented, if you ask the right question, eg.:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2058683/new-windows-8-1-requirements-strand-some-users-on-windows-8.html
So that's it, exclusion by 'stealth' - at least M'soft told you that processor required NX - Execute Disable Bit
    for Windows 8
For Intel units, look out for 'VT-x. Have a processor on the way, but will Motherboard pass CMPXCHG16b test?
    AND PrefetchW AND LAHF/SAHF
Windows 8 support ends 2015, that means people who bought it will have had 2 years use
WIN 8.1 Upgrade/Update (sic) is free, but costly if it won't run on your machine
So, those many people who decried Windows 8 and stuck to WIN 7, were right after all
Early supporters of WIN 8, have been 'betrayed'
'Minimum Requirement for Processor 1Ghz - don't make me laugh! (Presumably for Phone 8)
M'soft have a 'more info' link on System Requirements page, so why not spell it out...
Otherwise it looks like a PR/Cosmetic exersize

Officejet 6500a won’t install wirelessly on Win 7 HP laptop. Does fine wirelessly on generic desktop pc. HP Support Assistant does not detect this unit. At one time, I had the laptop wired to the printer, so all the relevant data were transferred automatically.

Wireless and wired use different setups. Since you didn't remove the previous install it expects it to be wired connection.

  • CMOS won't reset KT3 Ultra

The CMOS on my KT3 Ultra board will not reset. I've tried taking the battery out for over 48 hours and setting the JBAT1 to the 2-3 position. My CMOS settings will not reset.
I'm trying to reset them is because I can not get into the BIOS. When I hit delete, my screen says "Go->Setup" but it never goes into the BIOS. It continues to the MBFastTrak133 screen.
Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    hi,
What keyboard are you using? I assume you never go into the BIOS, use a PS/2 keyboard instead, not USB keyboard first. YOu can use USB keyboard later after you managed to enter BIOS and to enable USB.
You can keep on hitting DEL key even at the MBFastTrak133 screen. It will still go into the BIOS after that RAID BIOS screen. Just wait for it to go off.

Please, could someone help me to understand if I have the correct installation of drivers for USB

Having installed the USB 2.0 driver from the M/B disk
Under Device Manger > Universal Serial Bus Controller,
    I have the following entries:
    1x USB 2.0 Root Hub
    3x USB Root Hub
1x Via PCI to USB enhanced Host Controller
3x Via Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
My M/B Bios version is 5.5 and I have enabled all USB ports (6) in the Bios.

    Hi,
You don't need to connect USBOC....
As for the other pins, you have to rewire them....
Take an Ohm-meter and measure them against a normal USB connector.....
Don't connect it just like that......
