Kt3 ultra2-6380 problem

sorry my bad english
I have a problems with integrated chips, sound, usb y modem
I instaled all new drivers, and do not work.
I have  winxp, and the software recognized all hardware, but the periferic conected to usb port do not recognized like joystick(nostromo belkin n45, and generic card reader for compact flask card.).
I have not install the drivers for these. Not recognized like drivers for the periferic conected, but this are the correct.
Please help me

Hi Hector! Sorry pero tengo que contestarte en inglés.
Did you enable all the integrated peripherals in Setup ? Did you enable USB ports in Setup ? If you have done it, try to install them manually and give Windows XP the drivers. (I had to load the drivers for XP of my Digital Genius Joystick). About the card reader is internal or external? I had the same problem with an internal card reader. Did the installation by setup of the drivers, even got recognized as 4 different card reader but never get my Memory Stick readed, so returned it to the store.- Good Luck ! 8)

  • KT3 Ultra2 (6380) Problems after BIOS upgrade

Recently upgrade bios to 5.7 to work with the 2800+ I just got. The flashing process seemed to work without any problems. Upon rebooting of the machine I got the error CMOS\GPNV Bad Checksum. If I choose f2 (load defaults and continue booting) the machine will boot. If I reboot I get nothing....not even video. I have to clear the CMOS to get it to post but I receive the same error message. Im thinking its a memory issue. I have a pc2700 512 module in there currently which has worked fine. I have fiddled with the memory settings w/ no success. What should these settings be in my bios? Also have a geforce 4 video card if that is of any help?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
    -Matt

    oh anohter thing...
i got a two short beeps - pause and then another short beep for a mobo error code.
i find it very strange how if i clear the cmos settings...boot it...hit f2 to load defaults and continue it boots. however after that a cold boot or even a reboot the machine wont even post. I feel the answer lies in there somewheres.....

  • KT3 ultra2 BR problem

I have already read Bas' post about the common problems but still, my own problem can't be solved. I hope you guys could help me. Here's the problem:
    Specs: KT3 Ultra2 BR/2 x Kingmax 256 MB DDR333 RAM/AthlonXP 2000+
I know that the default fsb is 100. The system reaches POST at 100 fsb. Now, if I use that fsb, my athlon xp is almost worthless. Everytime I try to set the fsb at 133 and saves the CMOS setup, the system couldn't even initialize the VGA card and won't even reach POST. The LEDs tell me that the problems are with the memory modules. I hope you people can help me because I can't use my system until this is solved. Thank you and more power to you.

My problem like this; yesterday I playing Audio CD using Power DVD XP, then suddenly the application not  respond , so I reset the computer . After booting ,the hard disk can not detect. So turn off the system without do any thing ,let rest 10 minutes & turn on, the hard disk  can detect ,so go to windows  again, try play cd  again, but after this the system was not  respond same like above problem .so reset the pc ,after booting the computer can not detect the hard disk again. So I turn off and  until  today in morning .I turn on my pc,after booting the hardisk can detect.but can’t go to window anymore, because all inside my hdd
    was lose, my D Drive data also missing (I got 2 partition-1st partition-C Drive: OS+ Software; 2nd partition -D Drive :MP3 song +My document).But I go to FDISK ,can’t access drive.
This problem I not sure is hard disk problem or power supply problem or mainboard problem. But can’t be the power supply not enough power, because I  just have 1 HDD , 1 CDRW Drive,1 Floppy, Mainboard with 1 chipset fan ,AMD Athlon XP1500+  c/w original fan ,VGA+VGA fan & sound card only. But my cousin using P4 2.4 GHz using cheaper & no name PSU with 300watt only and have more drive&may cards:1HDD(7200rpm)+HDD Fan,1CDRW Drive,1 DVD ROM ,1 Geforce2 display +FAN ,1 creative sound card, internal modem & network card. • KT3 Ultra2 Overclock Problem.

    I recently upgraded from a KT3 Ultra to a KT3 Ultra2.
On the KT3 Ultra i changed the FSB to 140, overclocking my 2000+ to 2200+ @ 1.76, stable. But on the KT3 Ultra2, changing the FSB to 140 equals 1.75 not 1.76Ghz, so the post displays 2000+ not 2200+. Does anyone know why?

I don't see why you're so fascinated with the 2200+ figure. Having a 10MHz jump to make it say 2200 instead of 2000 isn't going to make it gain the actual performance difference between the two(133MHz) . The 2200+ is 1.8GHz btw. You're closer to 2100 speed. If it's possible(dunno if you're limited by 12.5MHz from the cpu, one from the memory, or what) just bump it up to 141fsb and you're set.

  • KT3 Ultra2 USB Problem

I've just upgraded from WIN ME to WIN XP Home.  I did a clean install.
    I have two problems:
    1.  XP Home boots up very slowly (~2 minutes....very painful to watch  X( ).  Once at the desk top there is no speed problem.
    2.  My Logitech MX-700 USB Optical mouse will not auto-connect to the USB port.  I've tried all 6.  (two on back of board, two in front of PC, and two on the D-Bracket).
    My troubleshooting:
    - I've uninstalled and reinstall the Mouse drivers.
    - I've uninstalled ALL USB hubs and controllers in Device Manager.
My system boot up problem went away after I uninstalled the USB hubs and controllers.....and came right back again after rebooting with them installed.
SO....my problem is with the USB ports....
    Please help.

I've spoken to a Logitech Rep and MSI Rep.
The problem is with the USB hub/controllers.
None of my USB devices work properly.  They all hang the system at startup (very slow startup).  They all do not auto-connect.
    Please help.

  • KT3-Ultra2 Raid problem

Just recently i've had a problem with my raid, when i go through post it tells me that i'm connected with a 40 ribbon cable and that it had downgraded the ATA from 133 to 66. Ive checked the cables and they are both in good condition and i don't seem to be able to get things back to ATA133. Has anyone else had the same problem andis there anyway of fixing it?
    All help would be apreciated

i have an enermax 550 AND a 435 as the redundant back up, and they are both good. I get the same problem with my K7T266Pro2-RU. Its the AMIBIOS, plain and simple. You cant boot to a bootable cd in the scsi CDROM (or any other bootable scsi device) with the ide raid enabled, or something similar. I got through it but i have no idea how. What i documentd as working isnt working right now, cuz i just tried it :P. All i can say is fart around with it, make sure the host bus adapter is compatible and plug and PRAY, it'll work eventually and when it does it will go smooth from there (ie...i got mine workin fine, i just have n idea how)

  • KT3 Ultra2 boot problems

Ok my system was running fine for a long time now. I recently went out of town and I unplugged all cable going to my system(after a shutdown). Did this so no one would use my system while I was away. Anyway I came back and I am unable to get my system running again.
The DBracket is showing red lights for 1&2 and green lights for 3&4. According to the manual this means

    Initializing Hard Drive Controller
    - This will initialize IDE drive and controller.
I can't get any video to come up on my system so i can't get into the bios.
    Things I have done
    - Unplugged EVERYTHING. Left CPU only, still same problem.
    - Plugged in new hard drive
    - Tried with just hard drive and cpu
    - Tried new psu
I have tried almost everything possible. Any idea as to what is going on?

Wooow! This seems to be almost the exact identical thing that I have had happen to my computer. Everything was runnig great. You get up one morning to go do something and it starts to freeze up, then BLAM! nothing at all. No video, no HD rollover, no beep, no nothing to indicate what was wrong. And everything is pointing to a bad motherboard. Wooow! that seems to be exactly what I am dealing with. What I am being told is that it was my power suply. SUpposedly my Ppower Suply has gone bad. I was able to get my system up for a little while to monitor the voltages, and it was showing a drop in voltage on the 5V side, and is below a recomended level. But since you have a 400W power suply I would say that everything should be just fine.
But this is my second MSI motherboard that I have had this exact same problem with. And two other friends with the same model of board, are having the exact same problems, weirdly all of us at the same time. A big finger is pointing at something wrong with the manufacturing of the board, but since we all have had the board for over two years there goes the return policy out the window.
But I can't knock the maufacturer much, because there probably is something better out now. I still have to try and find $60 to replace my power suply and see if that is the problem. Hope for the best kiddo. I will try to keep everyone posted.

Ok, I've been havin' a OC prob since tha 1st day I got this board. I have a Palomino Core 1700+, a 450 watt PS & 512mb of Geil 2700 Ram. I have all tha multipliers up to 15 but no matter what I change 'em to It never changes in WCPUID...It alwayz stays @ 11.0 x. Tha only way I can OC is thru uppin' tha FsB which sucks cuz I can't go past 145 or it's pullin' out tha little green thang time again (Cmos). I have my chip unlocked or at least thought I did & have re-dun it several times just to make sure but NOTHING. U guys have any clues as to what could be my prob ? Thanx.

It never moves from 11 man...No matter what I put it on it never changes in tha BIOS or in Windows..Alwayz sayz Athlon XP 1700+. I wanna take this thnag to tha max but can't  X(
Xroyal - U can't lock anything wit this mobo can u...When I raise tha FsB it raises everything else right ? that's prolly why I can't go high on my FsB maybe ?

  • KT3 ultra2 MS-6380 and my Geforce 4 ti4400

Hello everyone! The other day I started up my computer and all I got was various lines of horizontal and vertical colors. After I would restart it, it would start up normally without a problem. Now I can't even get it to start up normally. I decided to put in my mom's voodoo 3 card and that works just fine. So then I decided to put my Geforce 4 into my mom's computer. Her computer consist of a P3 450 with 256 SDR ram. My card works just fine in her computer with no problems that I was having on mine. I have tried new drivers for my video card and motherboard chipset. I have also reformatted my computer and that had no effect. Also, when I start up now, my moniter doesn't even turn on, like the computer isn't sending anything out. Once I restart it again though, it does not do this...usually.
    Computer specs:

  • Problems w/ KT3 Ultra2 w/R

I think the best thing to do it's to explain the problem from the beginning.
A couple of months ago I bought my computer by components and put it togheter myself. Everything was fine, but there was a problem. Back then, my mobo was an ABIT KX7333R and it wouldn't boot if I changed the processor speed in the bios (it booted allright with the defalut -XP 1500- but when changed it to the real one -XP 2000- it didn't boot at all). So I used it for about 3 weeks with the default setting (I was too lazy at that moment to change the damn thing) and one night, the computer died while I was using it. Anyway, I assumed twas the mobo, so I requested a RMA from Abit, and had my motherboard replaced. The replacement worked fine for about 10 minutes, and when I was writing an email, puff, died again. At that time I was swearing and cursing, and blamed Abit. By then, I was tired of waiting and everything (just got stressed) so I ordered an MSI KT3 Ultra2 with raid. When I first booted the PC, the motherboard didn't recognized my HDD when I entered the Bios. I tried restarting, but the pc would not respond. So I checked the D-Bracket lights and they say that the problem was in the IDE controller or device. So I replaced my HDD with another one, but nothing happened.
    So, my questions are:
1- Am I the guy with the worst luck in the world and got three defective motherboards in a row?
2- Could it be that something else in my PC is causing the problem?
If you have any questions, please post it here and I'll answer them. Here it's my computer components:
    Athlon XP 2000
    MSI KT3 Ultra2
    Gainward GF4 TI4200
    SB Audigy Gamer
    3COM Ethernet card
Corsair XMS PC2700 512MB (Silver heatspreader)
    Turbolink 420W PS
    Lite-On CDRW
    PS: Sorry for the length...

Have you tried with another CPU ? If not, please do so ; or return the CPU for RMA.

  • BIOS Settings Problem on KT3 Ultra2 MS-6380E with Barton 3000+(FSB333)

Well, I finally got my Barton 3000+ with 333 MHz FSB and installed it yesterday in my MSI KT3 Ultra2 Mainboard....
    System Before changing anything:
    PSU: DTK  400 W
    +3.3 V / 22 A
    +5 V / 35 A
    +12 V / 15 A
    -5 V / 0.5 A
    -12 V / 0.8 A
    +5 V VSB / 3 A
So that should make up 400 W as far as I know, my total System drain should be around 300-350 W so even if it would not suffice 400 W it should run the system ?
    Mainboard: KT3 Ultra 2 (BIOS v5.7)
CPU: AMD XP 2100 FSB 133 MHz
    RAM: 1.536 MB, 3x512 MB Infineon PC3200 (400MHz) CL 3-3-3-8 @400MHz, Cl2.5-3-3-7@333Mhz, 2-2-2-6@266MHz
VGA: MSI RX-9800 Pro 128 MB
    DVD/CD-R/RW-Combo: Plextor PX-708 (Firmware 1.08)
    CD-R/RW: TEAC CD-W540E (Firmware 1.0K)
Storage: Western Digital WD800BB (80 GB) (Firmware 17.07W17)
    USB-Storage: Maxtor 4 K080 H4 (80 GB)
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 172T with Driver Version 1.0
Printer: HP Deskjet 970Cxi with Original HP Driver Version 4.3
OS: Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
BIOS Settings: SDRAM 1T Command: "Disabled" It won't work stable with 3 RAM's in it with that setting, but that I did know before.
    CPU Fast Command: "Ultra"
System was running stable for nearly 2 years with this Configuration:
    So now it goes:
First I changed the CPU form my old AMD XP 2100+ to the new Barton 3000 + with its new Arctic Cool Copper Silent 2TC.
Then I went into BIOS and raised the FSB to 166 MHz, which should be the correct one, or do I have to put 167 MHz in there (since 166.666666 MHz is rounded to 167)?
Then I exited and watched the restart...but it didn't start-up it only got me 3 long beeps at the HOST.
After some whining and beating I plugged out anything and cleared CMOS and started the whole thing again:
    System after Clearing CMOS:
    Mainboard: KT3 Ultra 2 (BIOS v5.7)
CPU: AMD XP 3000+  FSB 100 MHz
RAM: 1x512 MB Infineon PC3200 CL 2-3-3-7 (BIOS setting CAS Latency by "SPD")
Storage: Western Digital WD800BB (80 GB) (Firmware 17.07W17)
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 172T with Driver Version 1.0
OS: Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
With all Default settings, the Computer boots up, and is correctly Recognized as a Barton 1300 MHz.
When increasing FSB to 133 MHz it is correctly displayed as a Barton 2200+
    NOW...
...after adding one BIOS setting after another I narrowed the problem down to the "CPU Fast Command (decode)" Function...if set to Ultra it does not boot-up when running 166 MHz FSB, it does not even let me into BIOS. I have to clear CMOS and restart from scratch again...
Is this normal and expectable with a Barton 3000+ running at the native 166 MHz FSB or not ?
Since my system before was running on "Ultra" with my old AMD XP 2100+.
There is only one more thing I noticed, the CPU V-Core is shown to be only 1.616 V (setting on "Auto" but it should be 1.65 V ? Should I increase the V-Core to 1.675 V in order to get closer to 1.65 V or shouldn't I worry about ?
Thanks for any Input you can give me on the problem.
    Iscaran

Iscaran, you are indeed correct in the statement which you made

This setting can be set to fast/ultra on the KT3 Ultra2 when using PC2100 ram running at 266. However, when using PC2700 ram running at 333, this setting MUST be set to normal for the satisfactory operation of the board. I know that you have PC3200 ram actually installed but it is only running at 333.

    Yes, absolutely normal

How are you measuring this ie Bios or o/s utility? Not unknown that these are incorrect. However, if you feel unhappy about this, try setting the V-core manually to 1.65v and check what this gives.
    Quote
So 3.3 V x 22 A gives 72.6 W, that could be really a little cutting the edge. Could that cause the board to not respond when setting the "CPU Fast Command" to "Ultra" ?
Getting a more powerful psu will not likely cure this well documented problem.
However, this board mostly draws power from the 3.3 & 5v rails. The 12v is mostly used to power HDD, optical and fans. When you consider that 128Mb of ram draws about 8-10w from the 5v rail and you have a total of 1.5Gb that adds up to 96-120W of juice just for the memory alone. This board will beep at you at o/s level when it's running underpowered but my opinion is the same as osnavi's your 3.3v & 5v rails are too low. Also what is combined 3.3v & 5v wattage. What kind of reading do you get on monitoring utilities.
By the way I have as you can see from my dets below the same board and cpu as you and when I changed from a XP2000 Palomino with PC2100 ram to XP3000 Barton and PC3200, I changed the 'Fast Command' setting from 'Fast' to 'Normal'
Hope this helps, enjoy the board

  • KT3 Ultra2 R and VGA problem

I wonder if I could please get some ideas as regard this rather odd problem which I am encountering. This problem occurs when while the pc is 'shut down' if I disconnect the power supply ie switch off power by way of the switch on the psu. When I switch power back on again and boot, the pc begins its booting sequence it begins to launch windows and then it stops and a little red square (with a bit of green) appears in the top left hand corner of the screen. Now this problem does not occur if I shut down the pc normally (but don't cut off power supply). I have several partitions on my HDD and they are all affect at the same time. The end result is that I boot into safe mode I look at the refresh rate which is set to 'unknown' change it to 'adapter default' then reboot but upon reboot I get windows displaying screen at 640x480 with standard vga colours. I check in device manager under 'display adapters' what driver it's showing and it's the driver which I last loaded ie the correct one. I cannot change screen resolution , bit colour and the refresh rate only allows for 2 options, either 'optimal' or 'adapter default'. In order to get back to where I was, I have to remove and re-install my VGA driver and then everyting is back to normal (until I switch off power again at psu then back to square one). I have spoken to the manufacturers of the graphics card and they say that if the card works ok when I shut down pc normally and restart then cannot be the card. I described my problem in greater detail to MSI support and they said either VGA or O/S.
In essence I wanted to isolate the problem to, is it 'hardware or 'software'.
I would be grateful if anyone can shed some light.

Leadted Ti 4400 128 MB Vivo (det 44.03)
    Creative Audigy
    Enermax 432W
    Windows 98SE (via 4-1 v 4.34)
Seagate 60Gb 7200rpm   I am running the HDDs as independant drives on the
Seagate 40Gb 7200rpm   Raid controller ie one on IDE3 & one on IDE4

Odd as it might seem I have to follow the proceedure listed below if I want to switch off power altogether to work on my pc.
    1. Cold boot system with 166FSB and let O/S install
    2. Reboot enter Bios and reduce FSB to 133 make sure to set memory speed as HCLK and let O/S load
    3. Shut down and switch off power supply
    4. Reconnect power and boot system. Enter bios set FSB to 166 (the mem speed will be HCLK)
    5. System continues to boot and loads O/S
From that point on, cold boots (without cutting power supply) are not problematic as once the 166FSB is 'registered' everything works ok (at every cold boot). So anytime I wanna work on my pc I guess I have to do the above 5 steps. They seem to work but need to try it out a few more times before I am confident that this process will always work.
I am sure you agree that this is one strange mother of a problem.
I suppose the only 2 things left are a total O/S reload or trying another 333 cpu because I have tried everything else.  I guess I will have to live with it.
I have also cut some additional front vents so that front fan draws more air in and it appears to have dropped my idle Temp to 40.5C on CPU (running at clock 2083Mhz).
As as said earlier in my post my system ran perfectly with XP2000+ and 512Mb PC2100. I merely upgraded the CPU to XP2600 and mem to PC2700 and it has thrown up this very odd problem. And to boot (if you will pardon the expression) when I first installed new CPU and memory it booted first time at 166FSB. osnavi, in case you upgrade your CPU to a XP2600 and you get this weird problem at least you can come back to to this thread and find this workaround.
I wonder if anyone can fathom out why this is happening.......If not as I said I can live with it.
wonkanoby, I will try the link to the memtest. That is the only thing I have not tested so will give that a try.
