KT3 Ultra2 onboard audio not recognized by win 98SE

I have a KT3 Ultra2 MB with the onboard audio enabled in BIOS and running Win98SE.  I installed the drivers from the driver disk and followed all the prompts from windows.  The device is listed under system and multimedia devices.  But windows itself does not recognize that the device exists for playing sounds, recording et al.  Multimedia properties says there is no playback device.  Sound recorder sees no device.  Volume control does not come up at all.  The MSI sound manager will not open at all.  I downloaded the latest drivers from the website, but there are no instructions as to how to install them, they just expand into a collection of files with no readme.

Reintalling Win98se certainly didn't do the trick for me.  I've spent two days installing, trying a few changes, re-installing, trying something else, reinstalling.  I even tried removing all my cards except the video but the problem was identical every try.
Can you think of anything special you did during or after the re-install that did the trick?  Do you remember versions that you were using and where you got them?  This may be a case of the latest drivers being worse than some earlier ones, or some combination of older chipset, newer audio or something crazy.
Speaking of the failed POST, I had a thing with a different MSI board a while ago, where it wouldn't hold the BIOS settings.  Every so often (if it was unplugged for a few hours) it would reset (as if the RTC Reset had been jumpered and the checksum was off).  If your video card was AGP, and the BIOS reset itself to "primary video = PCI" it might look like nothing was happening on boot up.
I admit that I am about ready to pitch this board too, (or try to return it at least).

  • How To Flip Audio Channels? (KT3 Ultra2 Onboard Audio)

    Installed Winxp and the Sp1 update, then the 4.43 via 4in1's.  Then I installed the onboard audio driver downloaded off this site for my board.  When I click the RIGHT SPEAKER in the audio setup, sound comes out the LEFT speaker, and visa versa.  I know the speakers are not backwards, as they have not moved in over a year (and have went through two computers now).
    Anyone know how to switch the channels over so they are right?
    Kyle

    When working with Audio in most NLE's, i.e. Premiere Elements, or Pro, there are basically three areas that can affect how the Audio is handled on one's system. First, there is the Sound settings in Windows (from Control Panel). Next, the Audio card/chip probably/possibly has a console to make settings at the card/chip level. Last, and these are really two locations, but I'm only counting them as one since they are both in the NLE - Edit>Preferences>Audio & Audio Hardware. This is where Steve is referring to. Check all settings, and I'd suggest doing so in the order that I listed them above: OS, Audio card, then Premiere. A Mute, or by-pass in the first two, can override the settings in Premiere, and you may have its setting correct, but still not be able to effectively use your hardware.
    The exact settings chosen will depend on the exact hardware that is properly installed. Without knowing all of your hardware and other settings elsewhere, one cannot give you a definitive answer. Ideally, in the settings drop-downs, you *should* see your hardware listed. Look closely, as these can be a bit cryptic.
    If you are still unable to get your hardware working properly, a fourth place to look would be Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager for your Audio hardware. Check that Device Manager sees your hardware, and that it is working properly.
    If all is set up properly, but still not working, report back with exact specs on your system, including all of your Audio hardware. There are possibly some more steps that can be taken. I will not mention them now, as they *should not* be needed. If you do need further assistance, please list every option in all of the drop-down lists from Premiere, so we can know what your choices are.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Stereo turntable PS-LX300USB not recognized by Win 7?

    Bought turntable with Sound Stage 9 to transfer vinyl back in 2009.  Used only briefly on my PC and put away until now 2013.  Seems, HP computer with Win 7 is not recognizing turntable on plugging in USB.  You can hear the "ding" but no device is recognized.  Thoughts?

    Please make sure that the computer is set to USB Audio codec. Try the following steps:
    Click [Start] and then click [Control Panel].
    In the Control Panel window, click [Hardware and Sound];
    Click on [Sound];
    In the [Sound] window, click on the [Recording] tab.
    Select [USB Audio Codec] from the list (If this is not visible, please try these steps)
    Double-click on [USB Audio Codec];
    Click the [Levels] tab.
    Set the microphone level to [100 percent];
    Click OK;
    Click OK once more.
    After performing these steps, please check if you can start recording using the Sound Forge Audio Studio software.

    Hello!
    Have you tested your hearing?   Sorry!
    I got a Tbird too, of the 100 kind. There is also a 133 kind. Which is yours?
    Has it always been like this, that is, have it ever worked? Normally sound problems are Windows related, but this was odd.
    Is there good contact for the speaker cable? Try jerking it a bit, in and out?
    Any error messages in Device Manager? Could try - again - uninstalling current driver, reboot to enter SafeMode and reinstall.
    Here is an advice from the Internet: "You are probably using a mono plug for stereo speakers. Either that, or the driver may not be loading correctly. On some systems, if your sound card drivers are not loaded in CONFIG.SYS, you will only have left-side sound." http://www.5starsupport.com/faq/sound.htm#1-5

  • My external USB drive is not recognized by Win XP

    Hi!
    I have an external USB drive that is HTF+ formatted. It is not recognized by Windows XP. If I start the windows disk manager it gives me the option to initialize the drive. Do I dare to do this? Will it not erase the information on the drive?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Anders and welcome to Discussions,
    I have an external USB drive that is HTF+ formatted. It is not recognized by Windows XP. If I start the windows disk manager it gives me the option to initialize the drive. Do I dare to do this? Will it not erase the information on the drive?
    Yes it will !!
    Although with the BootCamp 3.0 Drivers (from the OSX Snow Leopard DVD) and the 3.1 Driver update (downloadable) Apple has introduced read-access to HFS+ partitions from Windows this feature seems to have some serious problems for some people.
    Personally I see this feature as "experimental" at the moment.
    XP itself knows nothing and therefor can not use/see HFS+ partitions and GPT (GUID partition table) harddisks.
    You might wanna have a look (or buy) at MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/ which right now is the better solution.
    Thanks for any help!
    / Anders
    Hope it helps

  • USB audio not recognized

    Hello All! I have a late 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display and a powered speaker system that connects with USB. Now I have a late 2009 MacBook Pro that these work just fine with. Both Computers are running Mavericks with all the latest updates. Using them with the 2009 Pro I get the option for "USB audio DAC" under the sound settings in System Prefs, but nothing on the late 2012 Pro. I really need to fix this so any help would be awesome! Thanks!

    Problem Solved!
    It turned out to be a combination of the usb cable and the OTG USB hub.  On my desktop the iBaso was cable specific as to the device being recognized.  When I tried the working cable witht the OTG hub on the Stream 7 it failed as usual.  But when I tried the cheap monoprice adapter it worked.
    The usb audio solves the horrible sound problem with the Stream 7 for anybody who is lookiing for a Fix.
    The OTG hub works with a mouse and  a mSata drive perfectly but not with the iBAso DAC.
    Thanks to everyone who replied for keeping me trying.

  • Nforce onboard-modem not recognized.. ?

    Hi Folks,
    i've just blanked my HD and installed Win XP brand new.
    Now.... all the drivers of the unified packages 1.13 and 2.00 installed well, but in both cases - the modem drivers are missing ??
    Both times in the device manager the "PCI-Modem" is indicated with a question mark as missing drivers and therefore not working.
    Also, there is no modem folder after i unpacked the unified drivers ...?
    Where to get the driver for the onboard AC97 Modem ??
    Regards, Chris
    (Modem is activated in BIOS)

    (maybe there are boards out with an onboard modem as extra feature ?)
    I think its in the BIOS because they derived the BIOS from a standard template. I just looked at the box my nForce came in and its not even listed as an option. Whats onboard is a LAN NIC for communications. And its a very good one as long as your hub is up to snuff.
    As to Windows.. did you assemble your computer? Maybe someone stuck a modem in there for you.

  • KT3 Ultra onboard audio

    I have bought KT3 Ultra 3 days ago. There's problem with onboard sound codec. Testing of speakers in 2, 4, and 6 speaker mode in sound driver settings doesn't work - when I click on any speaker it does nothing. But the major problem is very unpleasant crackling coming from speakers when playing for example mp3's.
    If this sound chip or driver for it provided by MSI is so bad, I will probably switch to ASUS.
    Can someone help ?

     My 1st two questions would be....
     1) What OS are you running
     2) Are you using the audio drivers that came with the
           MSI CD?- if so, UPGRADE!
     ... assuming your sound is enabled in the BIOS, if you're running Win98 (gold) you'll be installing the Virtual Device Drivers (VXD)- which is a bad thing! You will want to verify that you have the WDM drivers installed. Also, the newer audio drivers on MSI's web site are much improved over the one that came with the CD. Personally, I think the onboard sound is pretty sweet!

  • X-Fi Extreme Audio not Recognized by Wi

    I'm building a new system, using the Asus P5N-D mobo. I've got XP installed and updated to current. Windows recognizes that there is a pci device installed, but the X-fi drivers dont recognize the card.
    Any tips or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi candleja; I too am having the same issue, I was bought X-FI Extreme Audio PCI-Express and I attempted to install it on my FoxConn m/b running XP Pro SP3, same error showed itself saying device could not be located, it shows up in Device Manager but not as a normal audio device would (normally it states something like "Sound or Multimedia Device") it just states "PCI Device", the drivers on the CD didnt work, the drivers on the site didnt work (only being Vista ones is why but worth a go) and the work arounds to force a driver to install wont work on SP3 due to the "Only show compatible drivers" option not being present on device managers driver wizard anymore so I cant force it to install. I looked up the same card on a few online stores and they all said they support both XP/Vista and both 32Bit/64Bit but it did say "XP Pro SP2" rather than "SP3" or "SP2 or higher" but due to having a slipstreamed SP3 XP Pro install source I cant just uninstall SP3, very annoying >.< so if anyone has a solution that would be much appriciated! Its a shame as well I hear good things of this card and I've got a digital/optical surround kit but have been using stock/on-board SPU's for years now and I finally get around to getting a really hyped card and creative let me down grr! When I insert a audio-cd in my MATSHITADVD-R UJ-825 drive, Finder reports that it cannot read this cd.
