KT3 Ultra2 won't POST D-Bracket RRGG

Greetings.
I have read many similar posts but nothing I have done works so far.  I have a new KT3 Ultra 2 that I have never been able to get to boot.  The D-Bracket ~always~ shows Red Red Green Green, regardless of what is in the board: nothing, just RAM, just CPU, Ram+CPU, Ram+CPU+Video.  I have tried swapping out processors, ram, video.
Background - I had an Asus A7M-266D dual MP 1600 machine that just gave out last week.  I was in the middle of using it and it shutdown  After switching some dip switches on the board to force a 133mhz bus I was able to get back up and into the BIOS.  It died a couple minutes later and I was never abe to revive it.  I figured it was the motherboard, as I have heard about troubles with them, so I ordered the KT3 Ultra 2.
When I got the mobo it wouldn't POST.  I went and got new RAM and a new CPU (after the new RAM didn't help.)  I have essentially replaced my entire computer and I haven't gotten the new config to boot.  I would love to hear any suggestions you might have.
Here are the detailed specs:
Mobo: KT3 Ultra2 (6380E) - w/audio, no LAN or RAID
CPU: Either one of 2 MP1600+ (dual machine) or a brand new XP2000+
Heatsink: one of 2 Thermalright AX-7 w/Vantec Stealth 80mm fans
RAM: 256mb K-Byte PC2100  (new) or 512mb Kingston PC2100 (from dual machine)
Video: Either AGP ATI Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO (7200) or PCI Matrox MY220 (and others tried)
Power Supply: SkyHawk SH-400A8H 400W +5DC 40A 3.3VDC 28A no combined wattage but calculated ~195W combined from the ((5x40A+3.3x28A)/3)x2 formula listed in one of the threads.
I have switched out parts and reseated everything multiple times.  The D-bracket always shows R R G G as soon as the power comes on.  I have tried clearing the CMOS but it doesn't seem to help.
I know that other people had similar problems and solved them by replacing parts - but I have pretty much replaced everything at this point (with the exception of the power supply.)
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help.
hippo

And the power supply folks win again. I didn't have another power supply rated for this machine - only some old 200 and 235 W power supplies that rate 10-14A on 3.3 and 20 A on +5.  But when I tried to use it I at least got different results - I powered up until I hit R G G G (Boot Attempt) when I got some BIOS beeps (not sure which ones right now - but most likely related to having way too little power).
Sorry I didn't try that earlier before posting - I figured the PS was very unlikely to have gone bad in such a short period (new with case in May).
After I get a properly rated PS I'll post again (hopefully with all problems solved).
Thanks

Once connecting my mobo to my system, and attempt to power up, it will start the fans but I get no post, dled never changes, it stays at 2 red/2 greens.  Even when I strip the board of everything it still won't do anything.  Any suggestions?  I have an Enermax 300W ps which looks to be good for this purpose (referencing the ps article).

1st.. Read the sticky posts at top of this forum.
    then:
Strip it and put it together again.. and make sure you dont mount the heatsink the wrong way around..
and try to start it with just CPU + HSF, 1 memory module, and VGA.. (no HD,FD,etc..etc..)

  • KT3 Ultra2 won't run XP 2500 at more than 151 Mhz

Not an unusual topic I know but I haven't found any solutions in this forum as yet!
With my XP 2000 cpu installed my system is stable when the FSB is overclocked to 150 Mhz.  When I install the XP 2500 cpu and set the FSB in the BIOS (latest vertsion) to 166 Mhz it won't access the hard drives at all.  My initial thought was the psu so I reduced the system to 1 hdd, 1 DVD rewriter, 256Mb memory and tried again.  No change!  Then I started reducing the FSB until at 151 Mhz it would boot but as an XP 1900 cpu.  The VIA chipset drivers are up to date.
I' don't know what to try next.  Any ideas?

I can only say, I'm running my KT3 Ultra2 with XP 2800+ without any problem at 333 Mhz. Remember you have to upgrade Bios with ver 5.7 so Mobo can work with a 166 FSB. Also, better try starting with only one memory module. You can take a look at my P.S. specs. on my sig. It's not too good, but enough for this rig. So, don't dispose yet your 2500+, try and tell us how did it go.

  • KT3 Ultra2 hangs during POST - Memory Detection

    System specs:
    KT3 Ultra2
    Athlon XP 1900+
    GeForce4 Ti4200
    PC2700 512MB RAM non-ECC
    ***Nothing else connected***
The system only passes POST after clearing CMOS.  When I load the default BIOS settings, the system hangs when it gets to the Memory Detection step of POST.  I have tried different memory sticks and even motherboards with the same results.  This seems to be a BIOS settings issue.  Any Ideas???

I have tried 2.  Mushkin (Samsung chips) with a heat sink.  The other was oem and the chips are also Samsung.  Same problem with both.
The Mushkin works fine in another system.

  • PC Won't Post: D-Bracket Shows 4 Red Leds= CPU Damaged?

Hello all. New to these forums. I recently upgraded to an EpoX 8RDA+ and am trying to setup my KT4 Ultra for my g/f. After connecting/installing everything the computer won't post. Nada. The D-Bracket 2 shows the four leds red which means "The Processor is damaged or not installed properlly." I tried an Athlon XP 1600+ and 2000+ an neither worked. is going on? I'm going to remove the mobo now and put it in the case that my 8RDA+ is in. Any suggestions in the meantime would be appreciated.
    System Specs:
    MSI KT4 Ultra
    Athlon XP 1600+ w/ Thermalright SK6+
    512MB Kingston HyperX
    420Watt Codegen PSU
    30Gig WD Caviar

I have had problems like that a clople of times. Once the processor was dead on arrival and the other was when the fan was not enough for the processor. The system got stuck even before the screen appeared. In your case check if the fan is installed correctly.

  • KT3 Ultra Won't Post

I just bought it and swapped the mobo with an IWill. I,m running a T-Bird 1400. It is showing a Testing Real Time Clock message on the rear USB Card... I have cleared the CMOS numerous times it still has not posted once yet....

I found a fantastic computer case.  It comes with 2 blower motors (beside the power supply).  One on top of the case and one on the left side. The motherboard facing it.   I don't know who makes it, but here is the URL for the store I got mine, located here in the sunny and hot San Antonio, Texas.
http://www.askacs.com/Cases.htm  CSMINJA is the part #  second from the top.  No picture.
I don't understand the problem David has.   ?(   It has not posted what ?
Maybe you have similar problems I had today.  Get into BIOS, and set the CPU clock for 133 and the multiplier for 10.5  It will run @ 1400, like mine.  Thanks to Measus. :D

  • Working KT3-Ultra2 System suddenly will not post!

Problem:  After working fine for two weeks, my new system with a KT3 Ultra 2 mobo does not boot or POST. After pressing the power button, the power light comes on, the hard disk spins up, and then nothing else happens.  The D-Bracket LEDs are in the RRGG layout, indicating that it is initializing the drive controller, but I suspect it is not getting that far as the lights come on in this state as soon as the system is powered.
This system was working fine for two weeks before this happened. It has NEVER been overclocked.  I have tried reseating the hard disk connectors and all the AGP/PCI cards, as well as clearing the CMOS . My system configuration is:
Ducted case for effective cooling with a 350 Watt Power Supply
    KT3 Ultra2 Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2000 CPU with AMD heatsink/fan
    1024 MB of PC 2700 RAM (2x512)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP video adapter
    Netgear PCI Ethernet Adapter
    Windows XP Professional
I have no idea where to go from here, anyone with ideas please help!!!

Yes, I have done all of that.

  • KT3 Ultra2 No Post

    Hi there,
I need some help with the following:
I've just bought a new board, KT3 Ultra 2C and installed it, but the system doesn't POST.
The processor fan is working fine, but the screen stays empty.
I've tried to clean the processor and mounted the cooler again, but this doesn't work.
The D-bracket says gggr, meaning 'testing RTC'.
    That's all that happens......
    Any ideas ??
    ThX !

I'm using an BPS power supply, ATX 350W.
I've got an identiacal system assembled, the only difference is that the other system is using a KT3 Ultra2 board and this is a 2C.

  • KT3 Ultra2 AMD 2800+ won't boot at 166 fsb

    Hello guys / girls,
I've searched the database multiple times for this, but couldn't find anyone with the same problem:
My computer won't boot into windows or linux at fsb 166, it crashes during starting of the OS. When I reduce the fsb to 160, everything runs fine. First I thought it was the processor which would get too hot, but it's not getting too hot, only 27 C idle!!! The proc is designed to run at 333 / 2 = 166 mhz fsb so I don't see what's going wrong...
    My specs:
    KT3 Ultra2 mainboard
    AMD 2800+ proc
    noname psu: +3.3 28 A, +5 30 A, +12 15 A
Thermaltake volcano 7+ fan at low speed, gives proc temp of 27 deg. C idle
    Kingston DDR-SDRAM PC3200 - 512 MBytes
    CPU-Z info: http://bootje.servebeer.com/transfer/cpuz.htm

But why is it working at an fsb of 160 mhz?? I am using that configuration now, and no problem. The problems start when I increase the fsb to 162 or higher...
Also, according to the guy who sold me the memory, the memory should also work at 333 mhz.
Before I had an XP2800+ proc, I had a XP1700+ proc, which ran at a default fsb of 133 (tweaked to 140 (of course)), with the same configuration as I have now, and no problems at all... So the memory then ran at 266 mhz, thats even lower than 333... But i'll give it a go with different memory, but I can only do that after the weekend (roommate with other memory is gone for the weekend...)
Anyone other suggestions what the problem could be??

  • KT3 Ultra2-R won't run 133FSB with XP2000+

    Hi there!
    I have just bought my self a MSI KT3 Ultra2-R mobo, a TwinMOS 512mb PC333 cas2 ram and a XP2000+ CPU with a GlacialTech HSF (certified for XP2600+)
When everything is in deafult in the bios, my fsb runs at 100mhz. When pumping it up to 133mhz my screen won't initialize and there are no beeps on startup. I have a 350W Enermax PSU that I know works!
Any suggestions to what I can do? Thanks...

Getting rid of the shim did the trick. Now I "only" have a stop at the initialisation of the HD controller. I've read some threads on that problem here, so I think I will be OK very soon .
    Thanks all!

  • KT3 Ultra2-R no boot/no beep D-Bracket 1&2 Red

    I assembled a system with a KT3 Ultra2-R and an AMD XP 2100+ with 300W CodeGen-PSU.
The system ran well for 4 weeks without any crashes. Because i had the noisy AMD-boxed CPU-cooler, i installed a very silent noiseblocker-CPU-cooler. The first power-on bootet up to initialization of raid-controller an then the system hang.
The next boot, nothing happened: black screen, no beep, nothing. Only the fans are running. I reassembled the hole system x-times now, all with the same result.
I even changed the mobo to a brand new one -> same problem. I changed PSU to a 420 W -> same problem.
The D-Bracket says: 1 & 2 red, 3 & 4 green ("Initializing Hard Drive Controller"). The same result when i deattach everything from the board except PSU (yes: everything). No beep at all...
How can a brand new mobo and a brand new PSU with nothing else attached the same problem as the first mobo with my old PSU?
I have not changed the CPU or Ram yet, but how can the problem be there, when the error occurs when these parts are not attached.
What should the D-Bracket show, when I power on an empty mobo with PSU?
    thanks in advance
(ps: i assembled all my pcs for the past 12 years by myself; so its no beginners problem for sure...)

a new cpu (now only a XP 1800+) took me one step ahead: windows xp is now coming up with a message (white on black) saying that the system tried starting unsuccessfully last time. then there is a choice how to boot now. but even if i choose "safe mode", the pc is booting again...
also, i cant get the floppy to work. in bios, the mobo says, its an 1,44 flopp (correct) but i dont get it in the boot order or boot menu.
so i cant install windows new, because raid-drivers are on the boot disk  X(
another hard disk with installed windows xp also comes up the the scrren mentioned above and then hangs with a cursor blinking in the left top cursor of the screen.
i tried another graphic-card: an old "Interactive 3dfx Magix Twin Power": the pc beeps once long an then 3 times short on power on but keeps on booting.
the result is the same as above (pc hangs).
    very, very strange

  • KT3 Ultra2-C MS-6593 won't startup

I have encountered problem while building a
computer using a KT3 Ultra2-C MS-6593 mainboard.  Upon system power-up it hangs with no video signal to
    the monitor or BIOS beeps.
Details of the build are as follows (all parts are
    new):
    KT3 Ultra2-C MS-6593
    AMD Athlon 1800+, Duron 1300, Athlon 1900+
    Kingston 256MB DDR PC 2700
    Antec SX630II
    AOpen GeForce 4 Ti4200
Have followed all directions during assembly.  Mounted
processor w/heatsink and fan (retail set) and RAM
without issue.  Mounted mainboard in case, attached
power to mainboard (ATX and JPW1) and connected all
fans to power.  Mounted D-bracket II and Video Card.
Upon power up, to see if I could get into system BIOS,
all fans spin (power supply, CPU, rear case fan, and
video card fan).  No video is being sent to the
monitor, nothing else happens (even after one
minute+) no BIOS beeps.  Have tried two different monitors (both known to be working) and two different video cards (one new and other known to be working).
Have rechecked all connections (many times now).  Connected the D-bracket II to see if that could help diagnose.  Upon power-up it displays all four red lights and hangs there, progressing no further.  Manual seems to indicate that this may mean a bad CPU.  Again
rechecked connections.  All are secure with no issues
that I can see.  Have cleared CMOS, cycled power switch, even removed battery.
Have worked with AMD and replaced CPU.  The problem is still occuring with the new CPU with the exact same symptoms.  I believe the problem must be located in the mother board.
Can anyone help me in confirming this diagnosis and remedying my problem?
    George Quirk

Check your power supply, and make sure you've got at least a 400 Volt PSU . Also check MSI site for the mobo you have, making sure you've got compatable memory.

  • Problems posting with KT3 Ultra2 Motherboard

I just purchased a MSI KT3 Ultra2 ATX motherboard as an upgrade. After
installing it an all the components, I had difficulty booting at
times. I would get boot error beeps, specifically two short ones, than
8 long ones. The D-Bracket would initialize, however it would stop and
fail at "Boot Attempt" - the first D-Bracket 2 light is lit up red.
I though I had a problem with the power supply, which was 250 watts,
so I changed it to another one. I was able to boot up the system a
couple of times just fine (get to the bios screen and past it),
install the OS, however after turning it off and trying to turn it
back on, it would not work. After I changed the power supply the
problem was constant and now i cannot even get to the bios screen at
all. Before when the system was running it was fine, no errors and I
kept it on for about 10 hours with no problems at all.
    My other specs include:
Antec 300 watt ATX (with 12V thing for P4, but not attached)
    MSI Geforce4 mx440 card
    512 Meggs Samsung 2700 SRAM 1-dimm
    IBM ATA66 Hard drive
    Floppy drive
Athlon XP 1800+ Boxed (using the retail CPU fan)
Now every once in a while I get to the bios screen after which the system runs fine, but most of the time I get these beeps. I tried moving around everything and the system is barebone.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thank you,
    George

I have tested the harddrive and the graphic card and they work too. I have tested with my other power supply too but same problem and that is a 300W power supply. But i haven´t tested the CPU because i don´t have another computer to test it in.
