Kt333 Ultra 2 + Msi 52x Cdrom = Problems

im running the kt333 ultra 2 mother board, and have bought an msi starspeed 52x cdrom, problem i am having is that when it boots up, and scans the Ide's it throws out a bunch of ascii characters for the cdrom, in the bios, if i set that sec ide master to cd/dvd it wont find one, if i let it auto detect, it shows the strange ascii art.  any ideas why to msi products wont work together?

HI sanityloss,
Can you list out your IDE devices such as :
IDE 1 master : ......
IDE 1 slave : ....
IDE 2 master : ....
IDE 2 slave : ...
(RAID) IDE 3 , IDE 4... etc
Also, tell us how you connect the IDE cable(s). Is it 80-conductors or 40-conductors type? Blue header on the motherboard?
And also how do you set the jumpers on all the drives, Master, Slave, or Cable Select?
Your issue here might be something wrong with all these settings, such as wrong cabling, wrong jumper settings, etc.
Please give us the information so we can sort this out.

  • MSI 52x CDROM behave like that!

When I insert MSI Motherboard Driver CD to my MSI 52x CD Drive to install new system, it's OK.  But take a little time, CD Drive is spinning louder and stop reading.  I eject that CD and reinsert, prompt insert a CD.  I try to insert other CDs, the same reply.  Is it gone?  Help me.

OK... let's verify if this CD-ROM is actually working or not. Get a Windows 98 boot disk and boot yourself into DOS with the generic CD-ROM driver installed. Pop n any CD (e.g. Windows 98 CD) in the drive, and see if DOS can read it. If it can't read it, then you might want to return it for RMA.

  • 52x cdrom problem ms????

i got a 52x cdrom drive,i cant remember the mode,ms8???...but i know it had less buffer than another model with almost the same name...
ok...the drive reads a cd rom the first time, and then when u change the cdrom in the drive ,it still gives u the contents of the first cdrom, is there a fix for this, plz help!

You might try to press F5 (Refresh) in your Windows Explorer. This should refresh the content of the screen and show the files on the CD that is currently in the unit.

KT333 Ultra; fuzzy logic, 1.6xp overclocking problem help !!!!!

Not that I am an expert o/c but here are some thoughts on the matter.
My comments are based on my experiences of the KT3 Ultra2 which is basically the same as the Ultra version.
This mobo does not have the ability to lock the PCI/AGP bus freely from the FSB. However, it does have dividers. At 133 a 1/4 divider kicks in. Above 152FSB the 1/5 divider works, so that at 166 the PCI & AGP buses will be back in sync. If you are o/c your cpu, don't go from 133 to 145, etc since you will be running the PCI/AGP buses further out of whack. Just go to either the mid 150's or to 166 in one jump. The other problem / issue relates to your cpu. From what you say you have one of the old Palominos which are not great o/c's. I would personally o/c your cpu from the BIOS rather than 'Fluffy Logic' which I would tend to stay away from.
With a 166FSB cpu a very stable o/c would be 175-177 beyond 180 gets decidedly tricky.
    Hope this helps

  • Ram burned msi kt333 ultra

    Hi all
I flashed my k7t266 MSI board with the wrong bios yesterday, so off course i had to get a new MSI board being the kt333 ultra. Today when playing CS the machine suddently switched itself off, not being able to reboot AT ALL. 3 long beeps occured. I found out that this was caused by fault i ram and i reinserted them which caused smoke to appear from the socket, upon trying one more time in another socket a spark appeared.
Could this be caused by me setting "optimal performance" in the bios with my 9 months old Kingston "2100 /266 mhz. ddr ram"?  If that is the case do you think the whole board is broken or "just" my ram?.
...I suppose theres not any warranty covering this...
When i power on the board now (without any ram) i keep getting the 3 long beeps.
    Thanks for any thoughts...
    /Towli

It sounds awfully much like you tried inserting the ram with power applied. You have to rememeber that modern ATX PSUs still supply some power to the board when it is swithed off. It is always safer to unplug the PC before removing or inserting anything.

I will try using \"O\" rather than \"0\" and see if that helps.  Fingers crossed...
I didn\'t think that I needed an MSI motherboard to install Media Center - just the MSI video card?  What I do wonder as well is that, since all of the first FX5900 Ultra cards are actually manufactured by Nvidia for companies such as MSI, is this why the software doesn\'t recognise the card as an \"MSI\" one?  If so, I guess I\'m sunk...
    Thanks,
    Karen
I wouldn't know on that as I have a MSI board and vid card.I do have a media center from nVidia. If you update the drivers from nVidia, you should get theirs.Unless I am thinking of a different media center.
EDIT I was thinking of a different media center,my apologies.MSI's looks neat,  I want one as well.

  • Mainboard does not work anymore (kt333 Ultra Aru)

I have a KT333 Ultra motherboard I purchased along with an AMD XP 2000+ chip and had 256 MB ( PC2100)memory and Cyber-cooler CPU cooler, ATI Rage Pro Turbo, Kingston 10/100 ethernet, Enermax 350 watt PSU, and TI firewire card. and I came home after a late night of work and turned my PC on only to get 3 long beeps and no screen messages or anything, this happened this saturday evening and I was not able to get past the 3 beeps nor find anything about them on the manual that came with the board. I scurried around and found the sales slips and called the seller, and they were not open so I called MSI tech support, and they were not open either, at least not until monday, and I need a new Motherboard if this one has failed, because I am moving to college this friday, and need to get in touch with MSI for replacing the board and possibly other components that may have gone with it.... but what is MSI's policy on replacements, and or warrranty?

You got this "error" after clearing the cmos? It is not an error, it is what happens after you clear the cmos. It is basically saying you cleared your motherboard settings and you need to go back and reset them. All you have to do at this message is press f1 and reset you bios settings. For now, I would recommend just setting the time and date and then loading default bios settings until you are sure you can fully boot. Then you can go back and change what you need. Good Luck and keep us posted.

  • MSI 52x Cd Writer Disappears

I have noticed this with quite a few 52x CD Writers now and i wondered if anybody else had seen it or got any idea why it happens.
Basically the drive will just stop working. If you installing windows at the point it stops working this just crashs your install. If you have windows installed the drive at random will just vanish.
Its no longer listed in My Computer and No longer listed in the device manager. Refreshing the system hardware does not seem to bring it back. If you have a Disk in the drive at the time it has vansihed, it just sits there with the read light lit on the drive and the tray will not open.
Re-cycling the power seems to be the only way to get the drive to start working again until the next time it happens.
Before people start going on about what configuration i have, i have been down this road, i have tried serveral different setups and also serveral other MSI 52x CD Drives and also drives made by other manufactuers. I am beginning to think this could be buggy firmware.
    Any Ideas anyone?
    JC

Ok. I have updated my CR52-A2's firmware to the latest available version (160D). The mothernoard detects it as an 'ATAPI CDRW drive'. It did not detect it as an MSI product with the previous firmware version (150D) and it still doesn't. I have originally assumed that not to be a problem, as my drive is an OEM version, but maybe something's wrong here. With the new version of firmware I've been able to successfully run a couple of installation CDs in this drive. However, I still have a problem using it to play music CDs. The drive no longer disappears from Windows Explorer and Hardware Manager, but after playing a music CD for a few minutes, the Windows Media Player (both older version 8 and the latest version 9) freezes. Sound cuts off, the light on the drive's front panel is continuously on and although I still see it in Windows Explorer, I can't do anything with it anymore. It also stops reacting to the 'Eject' button. As before, the only way to make it work again is to reboot the computer. This is definitely an improvement compared to its previous behavior, but it still is not working the way it should.
I have gone through a couple of IDE cables (both brand new) with no noticeable effect. Also, since the firmware update has partially resolved the issue, I am assuming that this is a software, not a hardware, problem. Unless a newer firmware version becomes available soon, I'll try limiting the drive's reading speed with Nero's DriveSpeed.
I'll also check the ACPI and DMA settings in the BIOS.
In the meantime, any more suggestions, anybody?

it never will as board has only 1/5 divider so agp would be 80 and pci 40

  • Problems with msi kt333 ultra

my friend bought a brand new msi board and it was working fine. one day he came home from work and saw it was on so he turned it off to save energy then he went back to work. when he came home he tried to turn it on but nothing not even the post screen all he got were 3 beeps after 15 sec it was on. so he took it apart and looked at it and nothing he could do could fix it. well i came over and looked at it. i cleared the cmos and it started up. i thought it was fixed boy was i wrong. it go into windows and there were no cdroms. so i turned it off and checked the cables they were in all the way and then we truned it on again and then the 3 beeps occured so i cleared the cmos and then nothing... not even the beeps all we got was a blank screen. so i  took it apart (all the way) and rebuilt it. 15 mins later i tried it again and nothing.... then i cleared the cmos the 3 beeps occured then nothng... i was getting mad quick. so i took out ide #2(cdroms) and nothing... then i just tried booting with the cdroms i got a post screen and then nothing... why is this happening. it posts fine with no ide or floppy connectors connected to it.  but then it crashes. i cleared the cmos changed the bat and done everything i could but nothing. can someone tell me whats up cause im about to take a shotgun to it and finish it..... :P

    Hi,
take out your RAM stick(s), and put them back again. Try with one stick first, also try with different slots. If none of the slots work, test your RAM on other machine. It could be your RAM has fully spent its life.

  • KT3 Ultra cdrom problem

Ive been having some problems getting my cdroms, or any cdroms for that matter to work correctly on my KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E). The bios recognizes exactly what my drives are boots, and both windows and dos recognize that they exist but 99% of the time they will not read any cd's. They have this problem no matter which IDE channel i plug them into, but my hard drives have no problems at all in either channel. I've tried changing the IDE cable, plugging in only one drive at a time, messing with the master/slave settings, resetting my bios, updating my bios, drop kicking my computer and lots of other stuff.
Im almost certain that the problem is not with my cdroms because i dont see how they would both break at the exact same time and a third cdrom i tried from another computer would have the same problem. Im also fairly certain it is not a software problem because i have reformated, repartitioned, cleaned my MBR and virus scanned 900 times. I also have the same problem even with my hard drives unplugged completely and booting off a boot disk.
I dont see anything else that could be causing the problem besides perhaps a faulty motherboard but i cant find anyone that even has the slightest clue what is wrong, or any reference to any similar problems anywhere online. Does this sound like a something a motherboard problem could be causing? Here are my system specs:
    MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)
    Athlon XP 2000+
256 mb crucial pc2100 DDR SDRAM
    GeForce3 ti200 64mb
    SB Live! Value
    Netgear NIC
    40 GB samsung hdd
    60 GB seagate hdd
the cd roms currently in my computer are a RICOH 4x4x8 burner and a generic 56x. Ive asked a ton of people and have been trying to fix this problem myself for months. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks.

80 wire ide blue end to board
tried them 1x 1 as some drives just will not pair up
does bios see them right,is that ide on auto
try as this guide as well

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Mem timing problems?

As experienced by myself as well as Maximum PC Magazine during testing. Using high quality memory such as Samsung PC2700 DDR on the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, if you set the cas latency timings to the most agressive settings, next time you try to boot into Windows, your OS crashes and the registry gets corrupted. Also the board actually interprets CAS 2.5 memory as CAS 2. I am sure a BIOS update will fix this problem, however who else has had this problems?

not for sure what the difference is between xtreme memory modules and,i guess, plain memory modules.installing samsung pc3200 256 ddr into msi kt3 ultra2,was wondering if you have had any compatability problems with your  type of memory.have posted to three different forums with no results.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU power supply problem

    Hello !
I am a lucky owner of MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard but have one problem. My power supply Fortron (FSP Group) 300-GT 300W seems to have some kind of incompatibility with this motherboard. In my case, the computer can't be shutted down by software. With BIOS version 2.5 it was impossible to shut it down with button too. With 2.6 it is possible to turn the computer off by button but software shutdown still don't work. PSU is working on ALL other boards I have tested so far normally. Somewhere in discussions (not in this forums) I discovered that also some kind of weird sounds occurs with Fortron supply on this board and that it is incompatible. Have anyone some clues to solve this PSU problem ? I am not able momentally to buy some other kind of PSU because Fortron is the only brand from higher category to obtain, so I would be like to solve this.....
    Thanks for any info !

PSU is powering Athlon XP 1700+ processor, the other big power consumer is GeForce4 Ti 4200 GPU. I am not able read currents for specific voltage outputs, so I am not able to measure whole power consumption. Computer is working normally, it is NOT overclocked (but it is stable overclocked too) and the only problem is PSU shutdown by software (win & linux, both of them has this problem). From BIOS v2.6 it is possible to shutdown the computer by power button. If it is tried by software, computer resets itself and three beeps occurs.
