KT3aru and msi GF4ti4400

Hello i am posting this message on behalf of my father who has a very sick computer.
Back in April 02 my father purschased a msi KT3ARU motherboard and two msi GF4ti4400 graphics cards (one for his machine and one for my machine which uses an asus a7v266e mobo).
The first motherboard was found to be dead on installation and was duly changed by the supplier.
the replacement motherboard was installed along with the GF4 and worked fine for a few weeks (apart from the onboard sound quality which was not a problem as i use a sblive card anyway) .
I first started to get random lockups after about 20 minutes of computer use which required a reboot, so the hard drive was completley reformated and a fresh install of Windows xp was made this made no difference.
I then started to get graphical problemswhich initialy consisited of dots on the screen and then proggressed to blocks and total lockups, On rebooting after a lock up the graphical errors would occur during the post/boot sequence ie: the wording on screen during the post would be multi coloured.
Again the hard drives were reformated and fresh installs made and all the latest drivers used (via 4 in 1s,nvidia detonator etc) also the psu was changed for an Enermax 460watt, the problems still continued so the bios was flashed to the latest available on the msi web site. The problem still continued.
The GF4 graphics card from my computer was then swapped into my dads to see if the problem still occured the system ran fine for a week or so before the problems started again. Mean while my dads GF4 was placed in my system (which had run the other GF4 without any problems) within an hour i was experiencing the same graphical errors as my father. This seemed to point to a faulty graphics card so we tried to contacted the supplier unfortunatly todate we have been unable to contact them.
The card was then taken to another computer retailer for independant testing. They concluded that the GF4 was faulty.
When the second GF4 began to play up the whole system was taken to the same computer retailer who has concluded that both GF4s have become faulty and this has been probably caused by a faulty motherboard.
We then contacted [email protected] who after a few email exchanges has said that the motherboard and Gf4s should be returned under warranty to the place of purchase. As pointed out in my first email to them we have been unable to contact them and since informing support of this i have had no furthur contact from them.
Sorry about the length of this post but does anyone have any ideas where to go from here?
Andy

Finally found someone with exact same problem.
Just replaced a MSI ti4400 with a 4600, both had same problems as listed above. The 4400 started screwing up about 3 weeks or so after installation, the 4600 was FUBAR right from the start. So now i have to send the 4600 back, I wont be buying anymore MSI now because I will be too paranoid.
MSI you need to start testing your boards a little better before sending them out, thanks.
and FYI the re-seller i got mine from has removed the ti4400's completely.
Bad batch maybe?

  • MSI GF4Ti4400 Question/Problem

    Hey guys,
I just put together my new setup.  Specs are listed below.  I haven't tried any 3D gaming yet, but I wanted to get some inital feedback.  My problem is that when I start up my computer, I get some artifacts on the BIOS loader screen, and the WindowsXP loader screen.  Once I get into windows, everything is peachy if I view at resolutions of 800x600 or 1024x768.  At higher resolutions, the display is chock full of artifacts.  I have yet to install the latest detonator drivers, I'm still just using the XP drivers.  My system does seem to be stable thus far.  Anyone have any comments?  I'll be installing the det drivers tonight and trying some 3D gaming and will update.
    Thanks.

    Well, things are worse now.
I got home and booted up my machine.  I missed the bios, so I let it boot all the way.  Suprisingly, all the artifacts were gone.  The XP loading screen looked perfect.  So I was optimsitc.  I even tried the 1280 resoltuion I was having problems with before, and it worked beautifully.  I went ahead and installed the latest detonator drivers (45.23, I think) using nVidia's installed.  Then I of course had to reboot.  However, when it rebooted, it was able to POST, and then about the point where the XP loading screen would pop up, the computer kept running, but the monitor went into standby mode, like it had no video signal being sent to it.  I tried restarting, to no avail.  I'm fairly certain at this point that I'm having serious graphics card issues, and might return it outright.
I intend to reseat the memory and video card.  I had minor problems getting the video card in because the pointy end of the bracket didn't want to go in the hole, so that could be an issue.  I also intend to try out my old GeForce256 in the system to back up my faulty video card theory.

I know power supplies are pretty much a crap shoot.  I bought mine at the local Fry's.  It wasn't the cheapest, nor most expensive, but not a brand I was familiar with, either.

  • Problem with MSI Board and MSI Geforce 4 with Windows XP

    I have a MSI 845E Max(MS-6566E)
                  MSI Geforce 4 - 420
                  Celeron 1.7 gig
                  Soundblaster Live
                  2 Network Cards
                  and the usual stuff.
I have loaded Windows 98 on my system and it works fine. But then I load Windows XP on and the system starts rebooting. After it reboots my video resets itself and I have to load it back in. I will then reboot and sometimes it will work, sometimes it will not. I try playing a game or even searching the net for awhile, but out of the blue the system will give a very quick blue screen and reboot. And of course when it boots up the video is reset. I loaded all the drivers I could find on MSI's website and used every video driver made by Nvidia and MSI. If I do a Windows XP update to my system the computer will not even boot up. it will just keep rebooting when it is trying to bring up the login screen.  Anyone else run into this with Windows XP?

My system sometime freezes. Why ???

  • Want to remove Firefox and MSIE in strange toolbar.

I just discovered Mozilla Firefox and MSIE on my iPad! How do I remove them? Strange tool bar at top of screen appears when I enter an address.

When I start entering a web address into Safari it shows a drop down menu of websites starting with what I'm typing.  This can be from my bookmarks or history.
If you want, you can clear your history to eliminate those from the list.
And do you use iCloud to sync bookmarks with your computer?  If you do you may see bookmarks to places you haven't visited on the iPad but have bookmarked on your computer.  Go to Settings > iCloud > Safari  ON/OFF.
Of course you can edit your Bookmarks on the iPad and remove any old ones you no longer want.

  • For .exe's and .msis with no silent option install

When packaging and installing executables and msi's with no silent install option, is the only recourse to enable interactive installation, or is there any other way to have it install, perhaps with defaults (next, next, finish etc.).
    Thank you

One additional comment here, all MSIs have a silent install option because that's a function of the Windows Installer. It's possible for bad MSIs to circumvent this by either using a custom action that displays some UI or calls something that in-turn displays
    UI.
As for exe's, if Installshield was used to build the exe, then you can create an .iss answer file as John pointed out.
I rarely see anything that can't be directly made silent. They do unfortunately exist though and your #1 option should be to contact the vendor and tell them their stupid, seriously (how will they ever know to fix it if someone doesn't tell them and relay
to them how problematic it is). Next you can try using AutoIT or you may have to repackage using AdminStudio or one of the other repackagers on the market.

  • Scrambled icons for Windows .EXE and .MSI files in Finder.

For some reason the icons in Snow Leopard for .exe files and .msi files show up as a scrambled image. I wish there was a way to upload a screenshot. Is anyone else seeing this problem. I do have VMware Fusion installed. Not sure if that is causing the issue.
Just to be clear, the icon are scrambled in the Finder, not in any of the VMware sessions.

I'm getting the same thing. When I look at the get info information they are associated with Windows explorer in Bootcamp, so I just changed them over to be associated with VMWare Fusion, which gives me nice plain icons.
I wish there were some way to say all exe files get a certain custom icon. Then I would use the Fusion icon.

I went into task manager, selected view, cpu history, and then one graph per cpu. Then selected performance, which shows two graphs under cpu usage history, so l assume that's the two cores!
Looks like both cores are operating then.
Quote from: willythecat on 09-September-11, 02:54:08
    - in your opinion do you think that l have got a better deal in the AMD Athlon II X2 as opposed to Sempron 140 single core?
Of course. Having two cores rather than one will give a nice boost. Particularly when multitasking for example. You'll notice a difference in various applications too, such as when gaming, video editing and photo editing.

    - if l did flick the dip switch on the mobo to up the FSB by 10% will it change the dual core from 3.0 MHz to 3.3MHz?
I'm not into overclocking so not the person to ask really.

  • Mega 865 and MSI AGP TV-OUT

I've setup my 865 and added a MS-8606 TV tuner card and MSI AGP TV-OUT card.  Has any one got this to work on to a TV set?
Presently I can't get any signal onto the TV even after I disabled the on board VGA (at the moment I have no video what so ever)
Also has any one out there successfully set up the TV tuner?
I can't seem to get a clear picture from the tuner.

I allready found the option to change between Cable and antenna. I'm allready using the cable option.
My tuner is also an 8606 by the way. Version 1.2
The thing is, that the few channels I can get, are spread around the complete bandwidth of the TV signals, so it's not a bad cable.
I'm also using an amplefier to boost the signal. Just to rule out weak signals.
Anyway, this topic is not about the tuner, it's the tv-out wich also doesn't work..
I've read that updating the bios from 1.0 to 1.2 doesn't work. Using another AGP card with tv-out did work, so the AGP slot seems to function.
    Yep, its getting very irritating.

  • OC Fan Stand and MSI Delid Die Guard

When I got my msi z97 mpower max ac mb it never came with the OC Fan Stand and MSI Delid Die Guard or the msi 8 gig usb stick. Is the mb suppose to come with these items. If not,how can I get them.

No, these are exclusive items of Z97 XPower and considering Delid Die Guard a key feature of that board. For other boards these are not even optional but not available.
If you don't find any Xpower users selling those on ebay you are out of luck. If you like you can still try contacting MSI about it: >>How to contact MSI.<<

Well, I have an MSI K7N2 Motherboard (with Nforce 2 chipset), Athon XP 2400+, and
MSI StarForce GForce 4 MX 440 64mb DDR, it works ok, but there is something that keeps
my attention, when the machine starts, no Legend about the VGA CARD is shown, like
GeForce 4 MX 400 Card, or something like that, all the cards I know do that, but this not,
I`ve changed my card (other =), but I still have the same problem, can anybody help me?????

In my evperience, the ATI cards do not seem to show a bios flash screen, I've been told by a system builder that it has something to do with the delay sending a signal to the monitor???, anyways, my old system running a Radeon 8500 never showed a vga bios screen, and the same card did not show one on my K7N2-Delta board either.  But 3 different nVidia cards all show a VGA bios upon boot (gf4 Ti4200, gf2 mx400, and gf2 ultra).  Either way, as long as your card is working, don't wory about it.

  • MX440 problem and MSI support

I am experiencing problems with a new MX440 and cannot resolve it.   I attempted to submit a request via the MSI website, but it never returns a response once the information is submitted.  I sent an email to the support account - no response.  I posted in another thread where other people experienced a similar problem (MSI Clock).  The only resolution (in that thread) was to install Win98.
What do I do?  I think my only option is to return the card and NEVER buy another MSI product for myself or a customer.   Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Problems:
    1. Most games will not play properly, or will only play for a few minutes.  Including the games provided with the card.  "No One Lives Forever" flickers really bad and locks up (or blue screens).  Similar behavior with Giants, Diablo II, et al.
    2. The "MS Information" and "MSI Clock" Display Properties crash the control panel application with the following error:  "An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel File c:\winnt\system32\desk.cpl".  I am not able to view or modify these settings.
    3. Live Update Fails with a VBIOS.DLL failure.
    4. 3D Turbo crashes the IE 5.5 window when started.
I upgraded the bios on both the MB and video card. I installed the latest drivers for the video card.  I've tried every combination of scan rate, screen resolution and 16/32 bit.  I prayed.
It's only the 3d apps or apps that are video intensive that have a problem.   All other applications work great.
    My Configuration:
    ASUS P4S333 Motherboard Rev 1.xx (Award Medallion V6.0 BIOS - revision 1006C - 4/19/2002)

    Hi ,
It seems I have the same problem than you; in addition I also have a ASUS P4S333 motherboard; running XP Pro.
Well my problem is really with 3D games, all of them, even those distributed with the graphic card. I am trying to get help from MSI and ASUS on that problem; before going back to the shop for getting a replacement card to test it will change something or getting a new card.
what I have tried is NOT installing MSI drivers since it adds some option in the display menu and constantly crash it when they are selected (MSI info and MSI clock)., got driver directly from MSI from 27.xx to 30.xx, try them all with "no one lives forever" and Medal of Honor with always the same results....freezing screen after 5-30 minutes of games.
I was wondering of a fan problem, that the GPU will get too hot , and you will get the typical freezing bug; however, if the image remains frozen (almost, because it is still working, but it is really slowwwwwwwwwww.), the sound is still playing properly, so the CPU is OK; it seems to be hardware GPU problem....
    Did you solve your problem??
if yes what was the solution
Thanks in advance for your answer
    Eric

  • No MSI info and MSI clock speed flags in display properties

My problem is really curious. Several days ago I bought new harddrive and made clear instalation of Win98 SE. After that I installed VIA 4 in 1, on-board audio drivers, the new DirectX and then DetonatorXP drivers for my G4 Ti 4600. My problem is that in display properties I miss two flags descrabing my nVidia card - MSI information and MSI clock. System has detected card correctly. In advanced display properties I can adjust OpenGL and Direct 3D settings, AA settings, etc.
My system is stable in every game and benchmarks, so it means that card works correctly. Powerstrip detects core and memory speeds correctly, under adapter options in this program I see 128 MB video memory, AGP 4x enabled, fastwrites enabled - everything is correct.
But in display properties I do not see MSI information and MSI clock speed flags. Why ??? I have also reinstalled VIA 4 in 1 and Detonator XP drivers - it did not help.
Before byuing my new harddrive (80 GB Seagate,7200rpm) I had 30 GB IBM,5400rpm. Windows 98 SE installed on this harddrive detects card correctly too including MSI information and MSI clock speed flags. Now I miss it. Any idea ???
On both harddrives I have installed DetonatorXP 29.42 then I have updated to 30.82
    My system:
    MSI K7T Turbo 6330 3.0
    1,33 GHz Athlon T-bird
    512 MBRAM
    G4 Ti 4600
    80 GB Seagate BarracudaIV 7200rpm
    Win98 SE

I installed the MSI Drivers from the MSI cd. All ok but the clock and info tabs were missing. I upgraded the driver from msi site to 3000 and no tabs.
     X(
Before the GF4 i had a gf2 and i realized i forgot to uninstall the nvidia drivers before installing the new card's drivers. I uninstalled them and reinstalled the msi driver 3000. But no clock nor info tabs.
Can someone help me? Are those tabs needed?
I'm using xp pro, intel p4 1.8 on motherboard intel d850md, 1gb ram.
Also the 3d turbo experience gives me msivga.ocx initialization error.
    Thanxs.

Now I got the following applications running all at the same time and I think it may be unnecessary to run all of them. I think some of them does the same thing really.
    - MSI Afterburner
    - RivaTuner
    - VGA Boost
    - AMD Catalyst Control Center
And sometimes I run AMD Game Evolved and MSI GamingApp as well.
What is your opinion on the different applications that runs to control and modify your GPU settings, what is really needed and what should be avoided is any.
In my case I like MSI Afterburner as it is easy to set the exact overclocking setting I find most stable and RivaTuner is great for in-game monitoring and game video recording. I am not sure what VGA Boost does, but it sound cool so I am running it too. AMD Catalyst Control Center seems unnecessary to me, but I am running it, because perhaps it should. Very confused, I am.

    @Nick
    Thank you for your reply
You said ” I use EVGA's tool (pretty much the same as MSI afterburner), nvidia's control panel and GPU-Z. Nothing else to be fair.”, but do they not do the same sort of thing, EVGA’s tool and NVidia Control Panel. In my case Afterburner and AMD CCC.
That is what I do not get, why should both run at the same time, what does that help.
Sorry for my ignorance if the answer is obvious. I just do not get it. To me, it seems like having two different email programs running and checked the same email account at the same time.
I know a lot of people are doing the same as you mentioned, but why please tell me why

So far what i've been able to see on my gs60 ghost pro (2pe), ram is upgradable, you have to n2 slots where there is only 1 in 128 gb ssd (weird size not the new standard), the normal 2,5" drive is an easy upgradable.
Ask if there is something else you need to know.

  • P35 Platinum and MSI 8600 GT problem

I have a problem with the computer locking up. It will do it on certain web sites, clicking around in Media player and other programs. I tried everything I could think of. Finally I Got an 8400 video card locally and everything is fine. My question is, since the 8600 GT gets all of it's power from the PCIE slot could it be a voltage problem? If so, I see no way of increasing the PCIE voltage in the bios for this MB.
Any ideas before I send this card back?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Core2Duo 6850
    2 gig Corsair XMS2 6400C4D Dominator Memory
OCZ Stealth X Stream 600 Watt Powersupply

It locked up with default bios settings and no overclocking. I didn't overclock the video card at all. I tried everything. Since I put in a temporary 8400GTS I have the processor overclocked to 3.3gig and everything is fine. Could the 8400 need less power than the 8600GT and if so is there a way to increase the voltage on the 16X PCIE slot? This is a MSI MB and MSI Video card so I would expect them to work together.
