KT3V - 1/5 divider at 166 FSB ?

First sorry for my englisch,
Does the KT3V also support a 1/5 divider at 152 MHZ FSB ?
My SisoftSandra shows me 42 MHZ PCI and 84 MHZ AGP with
my 1700+ raised to 166 MHZ FSB.

  • Will going to 166 FSB raise system temp?

Before I changed mobo and CPU from one KT4 (without built in LAN) to another KT4 (with built in LAN, the first one didn't have that) with an XP2600+) my CPU temp was around 40 and system temp around 34 when idle. Now my system temp is at 40 idle while my CPU creeps down towards 38 (but only with the case open, the cooler that came with it has to go - exchanged for a Zalman flower cooler). Is the reason for this increase in system temp that I now run 166 FSB while I was running 133 on the other board, or should I have a look at the northbridge cooler?
Thanks a lot in advance!  8)

Mystery solved! It was because of the new CPU cooler (which is now going into the server with the "old" KT4 mobo). My one week old Zalman Flower cooler has a large fan that's placed an inch or so from the cooler itself, and that fan also increases air circulation for the northbridge. So now I'm back to 32 degrees system temperature and 41 degrees idle CPU temp (because I have reduced fan speed to reduce noise), which sounds good enough for me.  8)

  • KT6 Delta-FIS2R Turns Off @ 166 FSB

I am trying to figure out what could be the issue with this system. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
this is for KT6-FIS2R board. It runs just fine at 166 FSB speed anything much higher then this and it turns off, crashes and locks up right after a min or so of post startup. It will lock up before booting into windows at 200 FSB, most of the time. The other times it gets to windows, it locks up in windows. no more time in windows then a 20 second session, tops.
If I used the core center in windows and go from 166 to 200 from within windows it locks up at once!
This system has all NEW componets... as follows:
Barton AMD 3000 Mhz 400 FSB processor
    2x 512mb crucial (PC3200) DDR400 ram
1 Serial maxtor 200 GB drive attached to promise controller

If psu work ok at 166 and all stuff running but crap out at 200fsb I dont think you will get good readouts at 166 - that was what I meant. Try increase cpu voltage then start up Prime95 - that should kill the fun more than 166 vs. 200fsb.
Not that impressive specs for psu I guess but check out with 1 memory module and fiddle with settings before you dump it 2x512 doesnt seem to encourage anything but "stable" tweaking but might depend on memory. I can use fastest timings with no problems tho. Problem shows itself just like a bad psu, actually worse. If memory setup is not 100% foolproof you will get problems sooner than later so best to test. Start with slow settings and go from there. But dont let fsb fool you - if you get annoyed tweaks work at ie. 185fsb but not 200 Im sure lower fsb will be fastest. Doesnt matter that much, your cpu couldnt care less. Btw. be careful what speed memory is at - you will find bios sometimes run it at 200fsb, or +33 as cpu-z informs. Try 170fsb and see what happens at "auto" setting If you tell it to run at 166 it will run 170, 1:1 as it should. Changes tactic at certain levels. Fooled me at first. Eh there still is the old VIA problem with pci/agp speed as toenne speaks about - dont run 19x unless you know all about it. If you have a stable but slowed down 200fsb setup you can allways try a more tweaked 185 or so later. Your setup is suppoesed to run at 200 but not necessarily supergreat with 2 big modules
That vsb or something has to do with voltage during sleep/poweroff hasnt it? Think so. Like when you can wakeup by punching usb mouse - something keeps it alive even if zzzzz. Not sure.

  • D3D crashing on KT3 Ultra 2 with 166 FSB

I've just upgraded my CPU from a XP2000+ Palomino to a Barton 2500 with the idea of overclocking it but I'm having problems running it at stock speed. I'm using a KT3 Ultra 2 board with the latest 5.7 bios and a Radeon 9700 PRO. As soon as I run any 3d apps with a 166 Mhz FSB my PC crashes immediately.
I've tested the CPU and memory with Sandra and as far as I can tell the system is 100% stable until my 3D card kicks in. If I underclock the Radeon core & memory then the system becomes stable again.
If I go back to a 133 FSB then everything runs with the Radeon at full clock speed. I'm coming to the conclusion that the AGP divider isn't kicking in and I'm overclocking the bus - is there any way to test this?
Is my motherboard knackered? Can anyone help?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a go at 167FSB but its just the same. My PSU is a Thermaltake Xaser 480W.
I've found the bit of Sisoftware Sandra that tells you the AGP multiplier and its still down as being 1/2 at FSB166 although the PCI has correctly gone to 1/5 so it looks like my first guess was right.  Is there any way to force it back down to 66MHz?

  • KT3 Ultra2 AMD 2800+ won't boot at 166 fsb

    Hello guys / girls,
I've searched the database multiple times for this, but couldn't find anyone with the same problem:
My computer won't boot into windows or linux at fsb 166, it crashes during starting of the OS. When I reduce the fsb to 160, everything runs fine. First I thought it was the processor which would get too hot, but it's not getting too hot, only 27 C idle!!! The proc is designed to run at 333 / 2 = 166 mhz fsb so I don't see what's going wrong...
    My specs:
    KT3 Ultra2 mainboard
    AMD 2800+ proc
    noname psu: +3.3 28 A, +5 30 A, +12 15 A
Thermaltake volcano 7+ fan at low speed, gives proc temp of 27 deg. C idle
    Kingston DDR-SDRAM PC3200 - 512 MBytes
    CPU-Z info: http://bootje.servebeer.com/transfer/cpuz.htm

But why is it working at an fsb of 160 mhz?? I am using that configuration now, and no problem. The problems start when I increase the fsb to 162 or higher...
Also, according to the guy who sold me the memory, the memory should also work at 333 mhz.
Before I had an XP2800+ proc, I had a XP1700+ proc, which ran at a default fsb of 133 (tweaked to 140 (of course)), with the same configuration as I have now, and no problems at all... So the memory then ran at 266 mhz, thats even lower than 333... But i'll give it a go with different memory, but I can only do that after the weekend (roommate with other memory is gone for the weekend...)
Anyone other suggestions what the problem could be??

  • 166 FSB 2000+ Unlocked, 84mhz AGP?

    Hey all
I just jumped into the world of overclocking, here’s the thing I unlocked my 2000+ with a rear window defroster repair kit, set my CPU to 10X166 so its still at 1667mhz. but with that nice FSB, Now I thought my KT3 ultra aru supported the 166FSB so should it not set my PCI to 33mhz and my AGP to 66mhz? Not 42 and 84.

  • K7n2 133 fsb works 166 fsb crashes!!! Help!

I have a K7N2G motherboard with a XP2700 processor, for the last 8 months all has been fine, but this week I find that running the CPU at proper 166mhz fsb speed casues the pc to crash all over the place, putting it back to 133mhz and all appears fine. I have tested the memory with no errors, the HDD has had a full scan and is fine, I just cant get it to be stable at 166mhz.
As I say its been fine for 8 months, and is now just causing a problem.
Any clues would be great, is it the MB or AMD causing a problem?
    Ta

Are you saying the temperature of the cpu might be causing the problem, as it does all the above when I first switch the thing on when its cold.

  • KT3 Ultra2-C FSB support?

About 13 months ago I purchased a prebuilt PC system and made the mistake of assuming (based on the name) that the KT3 Ultra2-C (MS-6593) was similar to the rest of the KT3 Ultra2 line, which I had heard good things about, and I expected similar future processor support.  In fact if you do a Google search you will dig up some old news releases that even state that MS-6593 supports Barton CPUs.  Flash forward in time, and I discover that despite the extremely similar name, the Ultra2-C apparently does not support the newer 333 FSB CPUs.  A search on this site comes up with some posts that say this is because the Ultra2-C  doesn't even have the 1/5 divider, so the PCI speeds at 166 will be far out of spec.
Can anyone confirm if they have gotten Bartons to work with this motherboard?  Or otherwise confirm if this board is in fact lacking a 1/5 divider at 166 FSB?  Can this be fixed with a BIOS update?
The BIOS allows one to set a CPU FSB up to 200 mhz, and the board came with overclocking utilities, etc.  Speaking as an engineer myself, it is completely illogical to make a product that supports high FSB but does not have a 1/5 DIVIDER at 166!  I also can't believe a company would release a product with such a similar name yet have such critical differences in features.
    Signed,
    Confused and Disappointed

Yepp, it does not have the 1/5 divider, similar to the KT3 Ultra-ARU. But the Ultra-ARU is often reportet to run at FSB166, but it is not official

  • KT3V highest stable FSB

Please, share your experiences. Give the highest FSB you've achieved with this mainboard.

This board works with dividers to estimate the PCI clock. At 182/185MHz is still the 1/5 working, so the PCI clock is way to high. I do not know, if the board has an 1/6 divider for 200MHz FSB, but I doubt it, so a lot more than 175MHz is not possible.
Another thing is, the chipset is biult to work with 166MHz not more. Especially the RAM controller (northbridge) is having a hard time with lots more than 166MHz FSB. The northbridge cooler should be pretty hot.

  • KT3 Ultra2-R ... Can't change FSB beyond 100

    Dear all,
Just got my KT3 Ultra2-R with an Athlon XP2100, upgraded to 5.7 AMI BIOS, worked great, then made some changes to CMOS (forgot which ones), then couldn't boot.
When I finally booted and went to CMOS setup, it would not let me change the FSB to anything other than 100...that is, no options on the FSB when I hit enter (shrug).
Now, my system recognizes the CPU as an AMD XP 1500...blah. Tried everything...resetting CMOS with jumper, took out computer battery, replace 350 SmartBlue PSU with 400 Watt PSU, replaced Heatsink/cooler with better one, wiped contacts, nothing...it's not the temps, because my case idles at 29C chassis and 36C CPU temps.  Even reflashed back to BIOS version 5.6, and still no go.
When I do "performance" settings in CMOS, it will give me 133 FSB, but my system will now be unstable. Weird thing was, before this "event", performance setting put it at 166 FSB :(
Anyway, my comp isn't dead....it just won't let me change the FSB.  I called up ABS Computers where I bought this, and they said they are not responsible for damage caused from flashing BIOS...blah, whatever.
I just put out an order for an Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard and joined the NForce2 bandwagon, but if someone could give me some insight into what I could do about my motherboard, besides hang it on my wall, I'd certainly appreciate it.
Here are specs of my system:
    MSI Kt3 Ultra2-R
    Athlon XP2100
    Geforce2 video card
    soundblaster 5.1 Live
WD 120 Gig and WD 60 Gig
    Liteon CRWD
    Sony DRU-500AX
    Q-Tech Quiet PSU 400 Watts
    Nexus Heatsink/Fan
    Windows XP Home

Thanks for the reply, but while checking out the other problem with the KT4V / Athlon 2400 Clock Speed Problem (above) who couldn't set his FSB beyond 100, but when he set it the multiplier to 12.5/13, he gets a 20X multiplier when he goes into Fuzzy Logic.
Well, guess what, I did the same thing (set my CPU multiplier in BIOS to 12.5/13, and lo and behold, I go into fuzzy logic, and my AMD XP 2100 is recognized as an AMD XP2600 running at 2000 megahertz...now someone explain that to me! I even check with SiSandra, and yup, it's seeing a 2000 megahertz processor. I even ran the benchmark tests on SiSandra, and it's on par with that processor.
However, my FSB is only 100, and thus, my memory benchmarks are about 25% below the norm for my DDR333 RAM chips (i guess because they are synchronized with the FSB, and probably running at 200 then).
Anyhoo, i'm tired of trouble shooting and figuring out what the hell is going on.  The comp is extremely stable at 2000 megahertz at 100 FSB...don't know what else to do...so installing new motherboard tomorrow and report back later.

  • [AMD] whats better higher htt or higher fsb

Hello to all,    I've been playing around with this set up and rather than do all the expermenting myself I thought I'd thow this out there,, What gives you more of a profamance gain..   htt at "2000" with mem. 1/1 or less than 2000htt and mem w/ divider w/ higher fsb.    ex:  fsb@250 1/1 multi @11  htt @4 = mem ddr500,cpu 2750, htt 2000 or say      ex: fsb 275 w/166div, multi @11 htt @3, =mem ddr498, cpu 3025, htt 1650,  seems my mem clocks out to  about at ddr520,  I've had to 258fsb 1/1 and sometimes it will hang in post, to much htt or what.   Any ideas    Thanks for the time,         Henry

Highest CPU frequency is what matter most .
Yep... that's the cool thing about OC'ing a 64. Ya gotta love on-die memory controllers
For some reason I always get better results @ 1:1 & loose timings on my Neo2 Plat. I never have been able to get dividers to work/OC any better.
    Weird.

  • ?( KT3 UKTRA2: FSB cannot run above 133 Mhz :( !!!

    Hi all,
I am new to this overclocking thing; so please be patient with me.
I can't set my FSB to anything above 133 Mhz in BIOS - when I try to change it to 166 Mhz, my system does not boot up. So I have to reset the CMOS jumper, to enable my system to boot. Why is my FSB at default of 133 Mhz? What is this FSB & how does it affect my performance? Should my mainboard operate at 166Mhz FSB ? Can I try 333 Mhz ?
I also notice that when my PC  boots up; it stats DRAM = 266Mhz. Does this reflect my own DDR RAM? If I were to use a 333Mhz will it show DRAM = 333Mhz ?
Please advise. This is extremely disheartening.
    My signature is my specs.
     ?(

You can't set your cpu to run at 166 fsb because that would be a huge overclock, your cpu is set to run at 12x133 (1600mhz).  Setting the FSB to run at 166 would mean your cpu would now run at 12x166 or approximately 2000mhz, or the equivalent of the 2400+ CPU.
Secondly, your ram wouldn't hold because to run at a 166fsb, you would need PC2700 or DDR 333.  The memory speed has to run at the speed of the fsb (at least, no less than) so you couldn't run your DDR 266 at 333 unless you have some high quality ram.
You can set your ram to run at 333 and your cpu to run at 133mhz (266DDR, 133x2).   It should be in the "Advanced controls -> DRAM settings" in your bios.  Not quite the same wording but it's pretty close.
That board is spec'd to run fine at 333fsb, you just need to either unlock your CPU so you can lower the multiplier and raise the fsb, or get a 333fsb CPU like the 2600+ or the 2700+.  You might want to think about getting PC2700 if you're going to overclock from where you are now, or PC3200.

  • FSB 133 SOLUTION REACHED!

I was able to successfully overclock my AMD Duron 800 to 866. My settings are as follows:
    1) Reloaded default BIOS settings
    2) Enabled 32-bit transfer modes
    3) Disabled System BIOS Cacheable
    4) Disabled C000,32k Shadow
    5) Configured SDRAM Timing by User
    6) Set SDRAM Frequency to HCLK
    7) Set SDRAM Bank Interleave to 4-Way
    8) Set PCI Latency Timer to 64
    9) Enabled PCI IDE Busmaster
    10) Set CPU FSB Clock to 133
    11) Set CPU Ratio to 6.5
    12) Set CPU Vcore to 1.70
    13) Set DDR Voltage to 2.6
I have CONFIRMED that DRAM Timing Control is the root cause of intermittant stability issues related to this mainboard. I'm assuming that I should be able to run my AMD Athlon XP 1800+ at full speed from now on.

  • KT4Ultra FSB

Hi, am a bit confused regarding FSB speed.
Have a kt4 Ultra MB with an XP2700 proc and 512Mb of 333MHz DDR.
Have set bios FSB Frequency to 166MHz and this get processor running at 2.17GHz ( correct speed) but fuzzy logic says that the fsb running at 133MHz.
Shouldn't the FSB be running at 333MHz as the processor has 333MHz FSB and Motherboard is meant to support 333FSB.
    Am confused
    Thanx in advance

    Ottoman,
if the BIOS is set to 166 FSB, then that is what i would trust.  WCPUID which can be downlaoded here
    http://file2.mydrivers.com/tools/cpu/wcpu300.exe
is an accurate tool.  SISoft Sandra is also accurate and useful for sys info.

  • KT6Dealt - locks up on 266 FSB

I have a 2400+ amd xp chip that is supposed to run at 266MHZ fsb.  I have the multiplyer set on auto.  If I change the FSB to anything above 240MHZ, my computer won't boot and the indicator lights indicate a CPU problem.  I am forced to clear the BIOS in order to get into the config screen again.  Why am I unable to set the fsb to what it is suposed to be at?  The ram fsb is set to auto and it is getting set to the prober speed of 400MHz by the biso.  Thanks.

    bradisbest,
    your amd 2400 / 266FSB doesnt run at 266mHz but at 133mHz
the double data rate makes 133 x 2 = 266mHz, just set it @ 133 and all should be fine
    good luck !
    FSB 266 -> 133
    FSB 333 -> 166
    FSB 400 -> 200
