  • Northbridge temps and the new bios update

I know the Northbridge temperature issue has been posted before. But I’m posting in relations to the new bios update supposed to be released 08/24. Will these temp issues be resolved in this new bios update?
There could be many reasons why the Northbridge temps are so high, ranging from bad heatsink design to Northbridge fan blowing too fast. Mine runs 55C idle which is way too high…but when I go to touch the heatsink, it’s barely warm. A lot of people have been complaining about the “light show” on the Northbridge, but heck I like it. I think it’s pretty cool
One last thing I’d like to bring up, this new bios update, I don’t know whether or not 1.6 supports DDR500mhz Ram (because I don’t have it yet) but will it support it? Reason being is I plan on buying DDR500mhz Ram and do some more overclocking.
1:1 Cpu to Ram ratio here I COME!!! :D

ROFLMAO  (first sign of insanity when you laugh about a such sad matter)
Maesus, its nothing personal, but do you really believe there will be a v1.8 BIOS? To me it looks like MSI has abandoned the 875P. BIOS v1.7 is supposed to come when? ...August 28th? That's 2 months since the last one and as far as I have heard there has not much changed over v1.6. When is v1.8 supposed to come? Another 2 months later? Not to speak of v1.9... That makes about 5 months to get the board working the way it was supposed to do from the first day (if v1.7 solves something at all).
Sorry, but MSI is about to lose all trustworthiness with this so called support. And moderators in a company's forum who are not even employees of that company, and have to take guesses (see Prescott support) about the products, do not help to make the situation much better (again, nothing personal). If the support team would take a look by themselves on a regularly basis (1-2 times a week) perhaps then the problems would be solved much faster. If I would work like this and not care about the customers I would have lost my job long ago.
There are still many problems. The board is on the market for some months now and memory compatibility and timings are still an issue.
I've visited many forums the last week. And I do hear (read) almost the same everywhere: Poeple who bought the 875P board say its high quality and has good features, if it only would work as supposed. MSI miserably fails to give it a working BIOS. Results in polls about "MSI 875P board good or bad" tend to be weighed horribly to "bad". Most of the ppl will never again buy a MSI board because they feel left alone with their problems.
It is clear that ppl who are satisfied do not post that in forums. But when something is wrong, they do, because they want the problems solved. But what are support forums good for when no one is listening to the complaints?
In times who prices are almost the same for the products, ppl tend to buy that product, that not only has the best features but also good support. When it comes to that MSI is not first choice.

  • Help with the new Bios 1.56 AND RAM Q

can high voltage for Ram, A-DATA 2X512 DDR500   2.85 for this case, can cause instablity, how do i know when to raise it, because it look like running fine with 2.70, and i oced it to 270mhz , 4000 in sandra.   so what should the voltage be? and what problem can high voltage do?
and in the new bios there is the REFRESH RATE (TREF)  and some crazy numbers, how should i know what to set it,
in A64 TWEAKER there is same option, Refresh Rate (TREF) , of course i am using the 200mhz, but can the 200mhz 15.6us cause to instabilty instead of the 3.9us ?
when ocing or not? how should i know if it causing any problems?
I am very very confused because i don't know how to oc right, i sometimes have crashes and blue screens when trying to oc, because always there is one option or setting that can make the instablity and to get real, there too Freaking many,
and how do i know for sure that Agressive timing doesn't causing to any errors or anything else? crashes and all kind.
PLZ if someone could answer those question i will be greatly happy, because i have no idea what to look for and i have some anoying problem with that, my ram is good for ocing and i really want stable ram with max speed.
and i think i am using the 1T i cant change it or anything. no where to change anyway.

  • GS70 Stealth after update new bios and firmware

my GS70 after update the new BIOS w8_E1771IMS.50E and Firmware w8_1771EMS1.508 now laptop become so warm...
when i am playing game the CPU temperature can reach 90'c。

4th Generation Core i7's are pretty well known to generate more heat than the 3rd generation, and as such the expected temperatures for the mobile chips has tended to be higher than the previous generation.
90C is getting hot. On top of all that, you're in a GS70 case, which is small and very enclosed, which means the cooling is going to be even worse. 90C all things considered, isn't terrible. At 100C I would start worrying.
If it worries you this much though, call MSI and see what they think.

  • New 955X Platinum and new BIOS relase for 915P Neo2 Platinum

    Hi all,
Just wanted to bring some news to this forum so that not all topics are trouble related:-))
Hope it's ok with the moderators....
MSI has just relased their new 955X Platinum mobo, and I must say it looks great.
It has some special features like 9.1! Dolby sorround and E-SATA brackets for external S-ATA's. It fully support all the Intel? Dual Core processors such as the 820, 830 and 840 families and the highest Pentium 4 Extreme Edition series processors like P4EE 840.
Best of all, it delivers power to the cpu finally tru a 4.phase voltage regulator, so I hope this board OC better then its predecessors.
Sinse this is a Platinum board, I hope MSI havent skiped the 955X DIamond board they showed at CeBit2005 tough.
Anyway, look out for this board and you can read the press release here.
I know some of you 915P PLatinum owners have had som troubles with youre boards, I just want to inform you that MSI hase just released a new BIOS(1.7) to youre board. You can dowlad it here.
Well, thats all. Have a nice weekend everybody:biggthumbsup:

I know, but I,m hoping the 955X mDiamond will support SLI. nVidea has just revealed that they will support SLI on Intel chipsets.

  • W520 and new bios update

I saw lenovo released the new bios update for the W520 and it says they updated the cpu microcode. Does that mean it will accept Ivy Bridge CPU's?
Also what is your thought on W500 laptops in today's world? Are they worth hanging onto for anything or basically obsolete. I have 7 of them with the 1920x1200 resolution screen and 4 gb ram, would they be able to run the newer versions of autocad and catia?

no the W520 doesn't accept Ivy Bridge CPU.
The W500 run AutoCAD and Catia, but would be very slow if you have many parts. So if you are using the W500 for work, then you should consider upgrading.

  • P67A-GD65(B3), new BIOS 4.3 and power phases

The old BIOS for P67A-GD65(B3) offered APS, Intel SVID and disabled as options for the power phases in the BIOS. The newest BIOS has no such option so I have to wonder whether APS and intel SVID are still around or all power phases options are set to disabled.
I have 2 of those mainboards. In the first one the BIOS is upgraded to 4.3. The system has a Pentium G860 (Sandybridge) and a Corsair HX750 psu. Control Center reports system to have 1 phase active while idle but the phase system itself is reported as disabled. It is not reported as either Intel SVID or APS. This seems to be wrong though cause when system goes to full load all phases go active again.
The other mainboard has an i5 2500K and was using BIOS v1.19. I had set the phase system to Intel SVID and indeed the phases changed between idle and full load. In a stupid attempt to benefit from Intel's rapid start technology that is supported on the latest BIOS and despite my better judgment I upgraded the BIOS to v 4.30. I had lots of issues with overclocking the CPU so I downgraded to 1.19 using the forum tool and the custom BIOS file. I may need to do a fresh installation of windows but according to the leds on the mainboard and the Control Center I can't get the mainboard to lower the phases even when idle. I've tried Intel SVID and APS in the BIOS but I had no luck. C1E is enabled along with every other energy saving feature. Currently and most of the time the i5 is running on stock clocks. I did notice that during the original upgrade from 1.19 to 4.30 in the BIOS the Intel ME was also upgraded from v7 to v8. I am not sure if the forum tool that reverted back the BIOS to v1.19 took care of the intel ME.
So I wanted some clarification to what happens with the power phase system in the new BIOS (4.3) and a bit of help in regards to the other system that for the time being seems incapable of lowering CPU phases. The second system is using a Coolermaster Silent M 1000W psu. Both mainboards are equipped with 16GB of Corsair (XMS1600) memory. Both systems use aftermarket coolers that keep the temperature reasonably low while being very quiet. I could list the rest of the specs but I don't think they will matter much.

The v4.3 was intended for those that decide to install an Ivy CPU. There must have been a reason why some of the features or settings were modified or eliminated to accomodate Ivy support. It may be best to ask this question directed towards the MSI Technical engineers.

As for phases, it may depend on how many applications are running in the background.

  • New bios 7.60 and temp. raise?

Flashed my K7N2-ILSR Delta the other day with the newest bios, and since that day my temps have raised with about 10 degrees celsisus. Right now I have a cpu-temp of 56, and when active it goes up to 60-65. This is not good, is there something wrong with the new bios giving false readings? The temp was fine before and and all fans etc still work.
    Thanks!

Don't worry about it...it's a bad reading from the BIOS...there's a lot of discussion among everyone about the temps...
Get a Temp Sensor and mount it under your processor...that's the best way to know what it's really doing...

Is it using the same command nvflash.exe -4 -5 -6 GF114.bin in USB boot dos will do?

    Yes, that's right.
But the mouse movement feels sluggish is probably caused by something else rathar that vbios.

  • Satellite L350-277 - Update of new BIOS and Wifi driver

TEMPRO has given me 2 new drivers but neither has instructions.
BIOS installation used to be an operation involving copying the driver to a disc and then changing the boot-up order to start with that disc.
However I think the new BIOS drivers are installed with Windows running - as a normal program. Anyone know for sure ?
I assume the wifi driver is a normal install, with wifi switched on or off ?

    Hi
    Just one question;
Is a WLan driver update and BIOS update necessary?
I mean; do you have any problems with your notebook where such update would be required?
You should not update this if everything is OK. in most case the Tempro notifies you about drivers and tools which are uploaded to the driver page but this is not a recommendation for an update you know what I mean???
I follow always this tip; never change a running system.

  • Z87-GD65 Gaming: New BIOS?

    Hello,
is there a new BIOS version available that can be used with the MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool?
The current Bios on my mainboard is 1.A or 1.10, the version of the Forum flash tool I have is 1.25g, and the latest version of the Intel ME Driver I have downloaded is 10.0.0.1204.
    Thanks

    Hi Svet,
thanks a lot. It seems that the current MSI HQ Forum USB flasher is still "MSIHQ Tool 1.25g Installer.rar". I just want to be prepared with a new BIOS in case something goes wrong when I will finally change my intel onboard graphics into a nvidia discrete graphics card.
But one more question: Since there is also the use of FPT recommended in some other thread in regards to all LGA 1150 mainboards, supposedly with the use of the BIOS version from the MSI support site, is there any difference to using the Forum flash tool method together with the BIOS version you gave me other than having to prepare the USB stick myself when I use of FPT instead of the convenience of letting the Forum flash tool do this for me?
    Thanks again.

  • Tecra M7 : new bios shutdowns the digitizer when closing the lid.

it took me a moment to find the problem : power saving ? attacking wacom ? no. some very stupid "feature" in the new bios from Toshiba.
quote from the toshiba download site:
    *Version 1.70 - 2006-10-24*
*Incorporated Intel requirements for improved stability.*
**Made changes to ensure that the digitizer is not activated when the LCD is closed.**
    *Version 1.60 - 2006-09-21*
    *Changed the temperature parameters.*
i have no idea what they were thinking but since when i move i often close the lid, it's very, very annoying because i need to reboot in order to get my tablet working again. the more recent features are not a matter, i'll keep xp pro.
now give me a download link to get the version 1.6 of the tecra M7 bios. thanks in advance, i count on you.

    Hello
Fact is that Toshiba offers all tablet PCs with WXP tablet edition and many additional software that offer full functionality when you use this tablet PC in tablet or normal mode.
So, in my opinion you should use tablet edition and install all available Toshiba tools and utilities.
I dont have much experience with tablet PCs but if you check Toshiba Europe support and download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Download you will see that your Tecra is fully supported for WXP tablet edition and you can download all necessary stuff.
Interesting is that there is also ready for download Installation instruction document with exact installation order.
You can also visit Canadian download page under http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_bymodel.asp and see what is available there.
I really think you need to install all Toshiba specific tools and utilities to have full control and possibility to use it in both modes.
Sorry I cannot tell you more about all this.
