KT3V motherboard Possibly damaged.

I built a computer for a child using the KT3V motherboard as a gift for Xmas 2005. The specs that I can remember are:
Athlon 1600 cpu
768 MB ram
DVD+R Drive
CD-RW Drive
60 GB HDD
Win XP Home
I get a call from the child's grandmother saying that the computer is not working and can I come take a look at it. I asked her how  the computer was acting and she was not really able to describe it to me. I went to check it out and when I pushed the power button, nothing. I told her that the power supply was bad and that I had a spare power supply that I had swapped out of a new case without using it and that I would change it for her. (POWMAX 450 W) After I changed the power supply the computer started booting but the monitor had taken a while to come on and I missed the post screen. What did come up was a message that the hard drive was reported by S.M.A.R.T. as being bad and to backup and change it. After pressing the F1 key the computer continued booting and windows started OK. At this point since I had heard the floppy drive check I decided to check the optical drives for operation since I did not see them check during the post. I tried the power button on each drive and neither would open. I rebooted the computer and during post the drives were not listed. The next day I installed a new IDE cable and the drives still were not recognized during post and they still were not seeming to be getting power. Fans were being fed off of the same power leads as the drives so I removed the fan leads and still no power to the drives. I am beginning to wonder if there was some sort of voltage spike that took out the power supply and damaged the hard drive, motherboard, and optical drives. The fans still work with optical drives on the same leads. I tired some spare drives that I have but they will not work either. (they might be bad ) I have one brand new combo drive that am thinking of trying. Any suggestions ?

Hard to say! Could be the old PSU took something with it, if I read your post correctly.
Do you have another disk to try?
This is a power draining thing that has worked in similar situations...sometimes.
Disconnect things from the motherboard, after pulling power cable of course. Especially all the power cables. Take PCI-cards out and the graphics card and the memory(!!), and the CMOS battery. Leave it be for a couple of hours.
When you restart, don't have anything but the processor on.
Beeping okey!? Then put one stick of memory back on, no more.
Next thing is graphics card.
Next would be one hard disk, no more and one that you are sure is in good health.

I have iphone 4s from sprint and its motherboard is damaged so please provide me what to do it is not in warranty and i am in India now.thanks in advance.

No, the logic board needs to be replaced. But, here's your ptoblem: No authorized service center, In India, will touch a US iPhone. Thus, your only option is a third-party repair shop. But, since Apple does not sell iPhone parts, many on the market are counterfeit. In other words, if you go to a third-party repair shop, you take your chances as to what you end up with.
If you can't send the phone to someone in the US, that can go to an Apple store for you, & do an out of warranty exchange...cost is US $199...then sell the phone for parts or go to a third-party repair shop & hope you don't end up worse than you are now.
    Those are your options.
    Good luck.

  • Iphone battery possibly damaged. Help please!

My laptop died while my iphone was connected to it. It damaged the cord and wouldn't charge my phone afterwards. But now my phones battery dies faster. Could my laptop have possibly damaged my battery? And what could I do about it?

my 5c does the same thing.  did a reset (to new phone) and still drains itself overnight.  This is frustrating!!  And Apple is quiet about this?  Come on apple tech!!!!

  • Replace or not motherboard, water damage

my girlfriend just bought a macbook pro and water got spilled on it. The motherboard has a little bit of corrosion but the computer is working fine. If she waits to replace the motherboard can the corrosion creep onto other parts of the macbook? Should she try and replace it as soon as possible or is it ok to wait and see if it will actually affect the computer at all.

It is virtually impossible to fix a water damaged electronic device.  Replacement is the only logical choice.

  • Testing possibly damaged RAM before installing it

I had a disaster with my old G4 desktop recently. My dog relieved himself onto a USB hub (not sure how long ago) but at some point while computing there was a system error warning me that my hub was drawing too much current and would now be shut down. The computer went into fits and started crashing frequently and finally quit. I discarded the hub and removed a PCI card that had four USB inputs on it. I got a replacement motherboard/CPU combo and it was either bad or something left inside the computer case fried the replacement components. Over time I was able to bring back the hard drives with an entire replacement computer. The damaged computer had 2GB of RAM on it but I'm afraid to try it in the replacement G4, and don't want to discard it unless I really have to.
Is there a way to test the old RAM BEFORE moving it over or should I just write it off? Possibly if I test it it might look OK for a while and then fry my "new" G4 at some point in the future!

Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.

  • X-Fi card possibly damaged, how do I revert to on-board sound?

I can't figure out how to revert back to on-board sound on my PC.
What's actually happened is I've been using X-Fi happily for nearly two years. I bought it with my system, and apart from some minor troubles right at the start (I bought a Vista system right when Vista was released, and the X-Fi drivers for Vista weren't quite ready) I've been happy with it. I'm not a sounds guru or anything, I got X-Fi mainly because I'd heard it was the only card that could play DVD-Audio discs, and I have several albums on DVD-A that I wanted to hear in surround sound.
Anyway, at Christmas I was given a new LG blu-ray reader, and some more RAM for my PC. So last night I opened the box up, swapped out my old IDE DVD writer for the SATA blu-ray dri've, and swapped 2GB of RAM for 4GB. I also gave the inside a vacuum while I was at it. I've only got a big, unwieldy vacuum cleaner, but I was careful, and I'm 90% certain I didn't scratch or even bump anything while I was doing this.
But when I booted my PC back up, the sound that came out of the speakers was a horrible high pitched screech. I've taken the X-Fi card out, checked it and plugged it back in a couple of times. I've rebooted the PC several times, and I either get no sound at all, or the horrendous noise (interestingly, when there is no sound at all, I can load up WinAmp and play an mp3, and watch the little bars jumping up and down as a song I can't hear plays - however, if there is horrible screeching, WinAmp locks up).
I can only assume that I've damaged my X-Fi card somehow. Or there was an internal cable plugged into it that I've knocked out (although the X-Fi manual doesn't mention anything other that plugging it into the mainboard), or that somehow more RAM or a second SATA device is interferring with it. But that all seems unlikely.
So, if my X-Fi card is damaged, I would like to, for the time being, start using my on-board sound. I removed the X-Fi card and plugged the speakers into the mainboard outputs, but got no sound. Then I noticed some power pins on the mainboard labelled AUDIO, and plugged one of the loose power cables that matched the pins into it, but still got nothing. According to the Device Manager, all my hardware is working just fine (including the X-Fi card).
Sorry if the post is long.

B? Most likely onboard sound is disabled in BIOS
You know how to enable it's just enter the BIOS, press Del, F2 or F0(depends on you motherboard) at boot and search for Integrated peripherals set onboard sound to enabled or auto
When Windows starts it should detect the audio device and asks for drivers
Also just to be sure test the X-fi in another system if you can?

  • IPad screen and alupen: possible damage?

    Hi everyone,
I have been using the justmobile alupen on my ipad in the last two months.
I use it with notability, using the zoom function, that makes me write at the bottom of the screen.
I have now realised that the area where I write catches dirt and fingerprints more easily.
This happens also if I do not use the stylus at all.
It is also more difficult to clean, and the feeling under my fingers is not as smooth as in other areas of the screen.
Is it possible that the screen has got damaged in some way?
    Thank you
    FEDERICO

Anything is possible. You can look on that pen's support site, see if other users report issues. And even if nothing is reported, you may want to look into a screen protector. There's one by Zagg that is $30 but has a lifetime warranty, or you can go for others, it's a matter of personal choice.
There is no real data on how screens are affected by styli, but common sense would tell me that any time one thing touches another there will eventually be an effect. Your styli may not be hurting the screen itself as it may be affecting the special coating on the screen.

  • Time Machine, Hard Drive, AirPort Extreme, and possible damage?

I plugged in an external HD to my AirPort Extreme (gigabit) base station today and started a Time Machine backup to it. After about 8 hours, I had transferred only 12 gigs of my 46 and ended up stopping it. I realize only the initial backup should take forever, but I am afraid that running the MacBook Pro hard drive constantly for hours could damage it. Are the portable hard drives capable of running for hours on end? What's the risk of damaging it?
I didn't notice any major heat issues with the Penryn MacBook Pro while doing this, but I didn't want the hard drive to break either. Plus, the wireless backup just takes way too long. I can't run an N only network because I have older AirPort expresses (WDS), older G clients in the house, and some iPhones that need to get online. I understand that 802.11g is slower than N, but it's way too slow for wireless backups.

Connecting a USB HDD to an Extreme can be used for Time Machine backups, but it is not officially supported by Apple. You will have to start a new TM backup if you are using the Extreme as TM backups to a NAS (vs. local disks) will backup as a sparsebundle (vs. your current folder format). The same goes for backup to a Time Capsule.

  • Power cord breaks and possibly damages brand new Macbook Pro....

Okay, this is more of a complaint. I have been have TONS of problems with my power adapter, but I thought they might have been from a bit of misuse, and that I need to take better care of it. Well, last night, I was on my laptop and I look over and the light on the adapter wasn't on. I unplug it and plug it back in and it comes on. After about 10 seconds or so, it starts making a popping noise, and the light on the adapter AND my monitor on the laptop started flickering. After about 3 seconds of me in shock, the laptop turns off. I quickly unplugged it from the adapter and tried to turn it on. When it wouldn't turn on, I turned it over, opened the back, and took the battery out and put it back in. It thankfully came on. I am very unsatisfied with Apple. I JUST got this laptop this Christmas, and I was very lucky to get it, and the power adapter broke. There are no noticeable problems with my laptop but there could be on the inside. I have been having problems with it before. It crashes when I'm playing WoW, and sometimes does it on Warcraft 3, which is like 7 years old, all on the lowest video settings and using my 9600 card. I am very unsatisfied considering I thought I was buying a computer that would actually work like intended. I may have a faulty laptop/power cord, but that doesn't change the facts. If anyone actually knows where I can possibly return this laptop/get a new one if faulty/get a new power cable, please post.
P.S. I just read online that the crashing while gaming appears to be from the fans not responding quickly to it heating up. Apple, change this. I have been having problems with my Macbook Pro since I got it and would really appreciate to get a few of my problems fixed.

Before everyone starts jumping on this OP, you have to be aware that there is a RECALL on magsafe adaptors. Apple never announces these things in writing (although a search of their Knowledge Base will bring up the information about returning for exchange).
Take your MagSafe adapter to your local Genius Bar (you MUST make an appointment in advance). You do not need to take a box or a reciept. If your MagSafe adapter is broken, take it to the Genius Bar and they will swap it out for a new one. This applies to all Macbook and Macbook Pro owners and was originally for the early 2008 models, but has been extended through late 2008 as well, since they were also found to have some of the same stock.
Never just walk into an Apple Store and ask them about your adapter. You MUST make a Genius Bar appointment. If you just walk in, they are instructed to guide you directly to the accessories wall where you can purchase a new one. If you go through your Genius Bar they will swap it out.
You can also call Apple Care even if you are beyond your warranty period.

  • Possible damaged IMAP cache

Last week I made the stupid mistake of trying to send some photos from within I-PHOTO. Obviously this was too large or something as later my MAIL seemed to hang. As if this mail was stuck somewhere and couldn't be sent completely. It just kept showing up in the draft box over and over again. When I quit MAIL I get a message that "SOME ACTIONS TAKEN WHILE THE ACCOUNT WAS OFFLINE COULD NOT BE COMPLETED ONLINE. MAIL HAS UNDONE SOME ACTIONS ON SOME MESSAGES SO THAT YOU CAN REDO THE ACTIONS WHILE ONLINE. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED - MF MESSAGE ERROR DOMAIN ERROR 1028".
I sent a message to APPLE and they suspected the IMAP CACHE is damaged and will need to be rebuilt. But advise that I must call to be helped along as I could lose mails. I only just started using my MAIL program recently and so there are hardly any mails in there. Is this a difficult task?? Any advice out there?

  • Possible Damage to Display/Screen following a dropped Macbook - Help!

We have a 13-inch, 1st generation MacBook (purchased around May '06) which has survived a few minor drops relatively unscathed. This evening, our one-year old pushed the Macbook off of our bed (about a 2 1/2 - 3 foot drop) onto the stained concrete floor. Houston, we have a problem.
The computer itself seems to be behaving normally, except the display/screen will not remain on for more than approximately 2 seconds after it is restarted or comes out of sleep mode.
From what I can tell from looking at the screen in that 2 seconds, the actual display does not seem to be damaged (no lines, cracks, etc.); it looks fine...for two seconds. Then, fade to black. The only issue seems to be the display turns itself off when the Macbook wakes up or is powered on. Which would lead me to believe the problem is not that the display is damaged, but whatever controls when the screen is turned on/off was messed up by the fall. (Just an uneducated guess.)
Can anyone offer some advice/information/opinion as to what we may be looking at in the way of repairs ($$$), or if this is something someone else has experienced and may know of a quick fix?
Any and all information is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Candace,
Thank you very much for the suggestion. I tried it out and it
worked. Now I want to retieve that image stored in the database
using the same form by executing a query. What would be the code
for the when-button-pressed trigger. When I give a select
    statement, it gives an error.
I would appreciate if u cud help me out witrh this.
    Thanks again....Viji.

See title. How do I unpair a wireless keyboard and mouse when the previous paired mac mini is damaged and will not start?

You should be able to go to System Preferences -> Keyboard and System Preferences -> Mouse and discover the bluetooth devices.
Also, do you have a bluetooth icon on the top bar of your mac?  Should look sort of like this:
If you can figure out which device is which (by trial and error, if nothing else), you can connect to them on this menu.

Just sitting around with my N97 on the desk next to me.. All of a sudden, the white charge light turns on. That's a bit strange, unlock the screen to see the battery indicator shows the device is charging. Wouldn't mind, but the phone isn't plugged in to anything?!
I have a sneaking suspicion the micro USB connector isn't particularly healthy on my handset. Not that I've used it much (I don't seem able to get any of the PC software to work.. backups fail due to internal errors, syncing copies all my music every time I connect, even if there are no new tracks or changes, firmware update.. what firmware update?!)
Will nokia "repair/replace" a handset with a defective micro usb port? Further more, why would this phone suddenly think it is charging?

    Seems strange.
    Not Charge
