Kt4 (6590) ram troubles

ok, its not just me with this problem:
http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=21&t=000953#000009
you set your RAM to CAS2 but it stays as CAS2.5, its getting quite annoying now, anyone know what i can do?
i have good crucial RAM (pc2100) that has ran at CAS2 on a crappy ECS board!

it actually says cas2 at post???
could you run CPU-Z for me and put a screenshot on the forum for proof, thx a lot :D

  • Kt4 6590

I have a problem,  i just installed  a kt4 (6590) board. I have a xp 2200 but it says 1500, so i tried the set the fsb to 133, it recognizes my 2200, but i get a blue screen of death saying windows has a error. So i go back into bios and switch back to 100 fsb and everthing loads and  runs fine.
Any help would be nice. I know this is a dumb question but i have to ask. I bought this board the 6590 with thinking i would get 333 fsb, i  cant even put it on 133  ?( fsb! will i get 333 fsb? I am a computer noob so be nice.  :P

Your getting mixed up with your speed ratings here. You are correct that you should be running at a 133mhz fsb this equates to a speed of 266mhz for the actual cpu which is correct for a (standard) 2200. The 333 speed you mention would equate to a 166 fsb in terms of the motherboard. I don't belive you can buy 2200's that are 333mhz.
As for power supplies when I first got my kt4 ultra a 300w psu lasted about 5 mins before it went up in a clould of smoke, the heatsink on it was still hot 10 minutes later! Beware cheap psu's. I now have a decent 400w psu from a recognised manufacturer.

  • Kt4 6590 SATA to IDE Adapter problem

kt4 6590 m/b, i bought a SATA to IDE Adapter plugged it into ide channel 2 to use a seagate db35.3 sata drive as a slave
the drive is not seen in bios or in device manager, and no scsi in bios either, can only see my main c: drive and the save i have attached to same cable, they run fine, but xp pro cannot see the sata drive what so ever.
only drives in device are my normal ide ones, no yellow question marks nothing. is there something else in the bios
i need to set? or is this m/b so old  it will never see the drive

Guess the SATA port has to be active. Is it enabled in BIOS? Don't remember, is this one of the cases where you RAID the single disk, and let those drivers handle the SATA? Promise drivers. http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=502
    From the manual:
    Hard Disk RAID Connectors: IDE3, SER1 & SER2 (Optional)
The mainboard has 3 IDE RAID connectors, which are controlled by
    Promise 20376.
IDE3 is a 32-bit Enhanced PCI IDE and Ultra DMA 66/100/133 controller
that provides PIO mode 0~5, Bus Master, and Ultra DMA 66/100/133
function. You can connect to one hard disk drive.
The mainboard also provides optional dual high-speed Serial ATA interface
ports, SER1 & SER2. Each supports 1st generation serial ATA data
rates of 150 MB/s. Both connectors are fully compliant with Serial ATA 1.0
specifications. Each Serial ATA connector can connect to 1 hard disk device.
Please refer to Serial ATA Raid manual for detail software installation
    procedure.

  • KT4 6590 BSR RAM Problem

The motherboard (BIOS 1.4) refuse to accept more than 256MB RAM. I´ve tried:
    2 x 256MB
    1 x 512MB (Kingston KVR333X64C25/512)
    1 x 512MB + 1 x 256MB
    I only works with  1 x 256MB.
Any ideas what could be the problem?

    Too weak P.S. ?

  • RAM trouble (4MEM/9/40000000: 0xb865f398)

I have an iMac 21.5" (mid 2010). Off and on over the past year I have had random shut downs "because of an unexpected error". Recently it has gotten much worse. Firefox has crashed a lot, or any other app that is more intensive. I reformatted my iMac, but that didn't help. I ran the Apple Hardware Test, and it gave the error code:
    4MEM/9/40000000: 0xb865f398
From what I know, this is related to the RAM. I have four 4GB Kingston Tech modules installed. I removed all but one, then ran the Hardware Test again. After going through all four modules, all the tests stated "No Trouble Found". Then I ran I module in each port to check if a port was bad, and still found no trouble. I've run two at a time and three at a time, but still "No Trouble Found". The only time I get the error message is when all four modules are installed.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Even if I leave only three modules installed (which didn't give an error message when I ran the Hardware Test) I still have frequent crashes and freezes. I've got OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 installed.
    Thanks for the help!

Install the original RAM that shipped with the Mac and then test. If it is OK (I suspect it is) replace the Kingston RAM (which tends to be problematic in iMacs) with a higher quality RAM from either Crucial or OWC, purchase directly from either vendor. iMacs are sensitive to RAM and demand high quality RAM rather than value RAM.
Your issue is one of the following:
    Failed RAM
    Incorrect RAM
    Unseated RAM

  • KT4 Ultra RAM problems and others

    Hi,
    just bought KT4 Ultra, with 512MB DDR-RAM 266/2100 CL 2,5 and Athlon XP 2100+, BIOS V1.2.
During boot-up the computer tells me, that I've got 1024 MB RAM although I only have 512MB. Linux says the same and RAM Test Software does too !! I can't install RedHat nor Windows XP, they always crash, prbably due to RAM problem.
I've already tried out all 3 memory slots.
Any suggestion what to do ?
Why does the computer not recognize any device on the 3rd IDE port ( neither IBM Deskstar w/ 40GB, LS 120 Drive, CD-ROM Drive). My BIOS doesn't show ANY options for the 3rd IDE port!
    TIA

Is that in the BIOS under: Serial Ata - enabled ? ( I did that !)
    Try http://www.memtest86.com
    Already did, it always crashes.
    Have you tried another RAM?
'Have no other RAM available right now.
And I can't start my computer anymore, since the cpu fan wont work. I plugged the cpu fan into the manboard-fan plug but then the mainboard won't be cooled. That can't work all too long, can it ?

  • K8t-neo Ram Trouble

Having some trouble with my new RAM I bought for X-mas (w00t)... BUT to much my dismay, I may have caused some trouble with my own comp... See, I had a Corsair Value Select (2pack) 1GB pack installed just yesterday... Ran fine, then when I received these new modules (Corsair TwinX 1GB Pair 2-2-2-5-2, 2T) pack, and installed them, my machine would start (BIOS, Network Card, Sata screens) then when it came to the Windows XP screen, my machine would sound it was rebooting, my monitor light turns orange-and nothing happens... I haven't changed any bios settings relevant to my RAM timings or anything. This memory supposidely automatically clocks at those timings with no bios changes (according to manufacturer).. Model on the RAM - TWINX1024-3200XLTP.
Corsair Twinx 1GB Pack 2-2-2-5-2 high perf timings, 3200XL (400Mhz) Memory..
    any help is appreciated..

  • Possible Ram Trouble

Yesterday I installed a new stick of 1gig Ram in my 2.16 ghz MacBook Pro. Everything seemed to run fine. THere is a definite speed boost throughout my computer and it is recognized when I click "about this mac".
Here is my trouble: I woke up today with my computer completely locked up, and after watching numerous flash videos on safari, my computer completely shuts off and then reboots. This has happened twice in the last two hours. In between that happening, my computer dropped a dark grey color (almost like a curtain coming down on my display) and the computer telling me to hold down the power button until it turned off and reboot.
I put in my install disk and ran the hardware utility on the extended test twice. It never said there was a problem.
I don't know if it helps, but in the hardware display the following numbers were different between both pieces of ram, so I thought it might be important...
    DIMM0: Oc7F7F7F8A00000000
    DIMM1: 0xCE00000000000000
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi Jon,
If your MBP worked prior to installing the ram, and now has issues, it is the ram. AHT will not always detect bad ram. A way to test the ram is to remove it, and see if the issues stops. It also could be that the ram is not properly seated. You could check that too.

  • Kt4 6590 +amd 2400 hlp req

    ok i have a kt400 6590 bios 1.4 i bought an amd 2400 throughbred and 256 ddr400
mem #, what would be the best settings to use in the bios. i run xp pro and have an old geforce 3 ti 200

set the fsb to 133, and the cpu to ram ratio to 1:1, unless your wanting to overclock, make sure you have read the guide at the top of the forum, just take a gander at my settings for example

  • KT4 Ultra RAm settings?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my system to a KT4 ultra, athlon 2200+XP, 512MB Crucial 2100 DDRAM and an MSI GF4 Ti4600.
Now its running ok, but I think its running a tad under par. Its benching about 10900 on 3DMark 2001. Which aint the best.
I was wondering about changing the RAM settings in BIOS. Would they have much of effect?
Also what about flashing the BIOS, with version 1.1? I'm very wary about doing that because the last couple of times I flashed a bios it screwed the motherboard up royally. Is it worth the risk?
    Ta

    Hi,
You may try "Load High Performance Default" in the BIOS. If it works, good, you should get few extra marks by some margin. If it caused instability to the system, don't force it, revert to BIOS Setup Default.
The effect of those RAM settings can only be seen by benchmarks. Normal usage, you can hardly feel any difference.
For BIOS, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Most BIOS updates do not meant to improve performance, but for bug fix and to support new hardware. Read the BIOS update info you'll know what has been fixed/updated.

  • Kt3-amd1800xp-98se-ram trouble-

i have a ram problem, i have the kt3 ultra2,ms-6380e, win98se,with pc2100 512mb, amd 1800xp,ati radeon 9000 128ddr, (2) western 60gb hdd. the problem is i can't add more ram chips. board can goto 3 gb but i heard win 98se will not. is there a patch or fix. sorry to sound dumb on this but i am at a wall. i love games and want to boost them. oh, also what is best way to adjust multiplyer and voltage? and help or site to get fixes will be loved. thanks

    Hi!
You are right about W98 - it will normally not be able to use more than 512 mB. I know there is a fix for that and it can be downloaded from the Microsoft site.
I am not sure, however that adding more RAM will boost the performance of your system, actually I guess that it will not show ...
If you want to spend money anyway, I would suggest to look into an upgrade to W2K or XP because these Operating Systems are both considerably faster than W98: If the games you want to play are not too old and if you do not have very old hardware (scanner, printer, etc.) such an upgrade would not be a big problem (and it will solve the current RAM problem as well).

  • Cmos clearing hlp req kt4 6590

i have a kt4 6580 bios 1.4 i have to clar the cmos jbat1 the little green connector
is on pins 2and 3 to clear cmos i turn off the pc and take the green connector off
for 10 seconds and then return it to pins 2 and 3 again or is the connector supposed to be on pins 1 and 2 - i tried it the other way pc wouldnt boot so it can only work one way 2/3

    Hi:
You have to set the jumper on pins 1-2 for the MOBO to run.
Whenever you want to clear the BIOS, just set the jumper to pins 2-3.
For more information, read the KT4-Ultra Manual or download the PDF from the following link: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/manual/mnu/spt_mnu_detail.php?UID=356

Support for mismatched DIMM sizes per channel .
For Revision E and later revisions the Mod64BitMux bit (Function 2: Offset 90h bit 6), can be used to
configure the 128-bit interface as two 64-bit interfaces for 939 packages. This mode allows
mismatched DIMMs to be installed in the upper and lower DIMM slots without reducing any of the
DRAM capacity. When operating in this mode the DRAM interface never operates as a 128-bit
interface and the two 64-bit interfaces are not accessed simultaneously.
