Kt4 Bios............

Hi,
I am trying to find a BIOS for my KT4V (6712) mobo this is the one with only the onboard sound nothing else, I downloaded two from MSI yesterday, firstly I was confused as the listing had it as the 6712 ver1.9  but said this BIOS is not for the 6712
So then I found one in the archives as well, both don't work, they say unsupported blah blah,
The mobo is a KT4V basic model rev 1.00 6712, the only reason I want to flash is because the CPU temp is wrong, it is +11c ( on BOOT CPU says 33c mobo says 17c, then CPU slowly goes up to 45C mob 24c), now I have had the CPU on two other boards and the temp was 33-35 idle,
the BIOS I found in the archives said it fixed this issue, but it says unsupported blah blah
Can anyone help?

That's what I tried, it says when you try to flash it that it is not the right BIOS

  • Overclock with MSI Ultra KT4 MS6950 motherboard

Hi, anybody know how to overclock Athlon XP2000+ on MSI Ulta KT4 MS6590 motherboard, I 'd tried to set FSB to 166Mhz, but it went blank screen.

an XP2000+ and FSB166?? lol you nuts?
its like 12.5x166 = 2.1 ghz!!!! you have to unlock it to reach the low multipliers (8x, 9x, etc)
Try from small boosts, like FSB 138, 140, etc etc
when you reach your top oc speed (depends if you RAM can handle that high settings)
ive heard that the KT4 Bios doesnt like high fsb speeds, and i tested one and only reached FSB 140 top, so maybe future BIOS revisions will correct that
    good luck!

  • Follow up to 1.3 BIOS on KT4 Ultra

    Cured my two problems
    1) Extra mouse pointer in games
    2) Stuttering in games
    How?
By going back to BIOS 1.2
Can only assume that BIOS 1.3 was rushed out without sufficient testing. It MAY fix IDE transfer problems, but on my system which is SCSI anyway it introduced the two problems above.
Definately starting to wonder if I should go back to Abit, this is my first MSI board, and probably my last, the way things are going.
    KT4 Ultra
    XP2600+ 333fsb
512mb Corsair XMS DDR 400 running at 333
    Adaptec U160 SCSI
    SB Audigy

BIOS 1.25 is a BETA BIOS, meaning it's unsupported by MSI. AFAIK, it might fix the Optical mouse LED stays ON even PC has powered off.
For those have PS/2 Optical mouse, please test this beta BIOS against this issue.

  • Kt4 ultra bios

have a strange paradox regarding disturbing message at boot up.
when i boot my system i recieve a message:
"no drive attached to fast track controller.  no bios detected.."
i love msi boards and have used this forum in past very sucessfully with the assistance of BAS.
I donated my old system to a freind in need.  It was all of 11 months old and was a very stable system built on a k7t pro 2-ru.  It had all the bells and whistles.  what a mistake.
my new system is as follows:
    kt4 ultra fisr
256 mb ddr3200 samsung  (as recommended by msi)
    m-audio revolution 7.1
ati all in one wonder radeon 8500 64mb
2-80gb western digital special edition hard drives
    dvd/cd combo lg electronics  gcc-4320b
    athalon xp 2200
    550 watt antec tru-power psu
lian li case with 4 fans (of which only 3 work with the power supply while allowing fan monitoring)
    klipsch pro-media 5.1 speakers
    winxp pro
how i got there to the afore mentioned msge regarding controller and no bios detected...
I was experiencing a lot of problems with the new set up
    such as:
    1.  system crashes while viewing tv
    2.  unexplained boot up of system in the middle of the
night (that was freaky and kind of humorous)
    3.  other system reboots and difficulty of system
         shutdown
    4.  device driver failure messages regarding the ati card
         such as "atimmc.exe  driver failure"
all system crashes revolved around the ati card and after recoveries many registeries were messed with as expected.
all in all I got by with the system as long as i remained off applications involving the radeon card.
last week I checked into the forum here and noticed issues with this motherboard and radeon cards.
i went to the ati site noticed updated drivers, and at the msi site, updated bios for the kt4 ultra boards.
i did not have a floppy so i backed off flashing the new bios onto the board.  I currently have the first version (1.00 or something), the screen flashes so briefly these days.
i decided to reformat the drives and reload xp onto the new system and then retreive the newer drivers for ati card.  upon installation while reading my neurophysiology book upon boot up is when xp informed me that no bios was detected.   xp asked me if i wanted to continue.  so i did continue with sucessfull installation of xp.
being quite surprised that i could still get system on board, i am wondering how to get the bios to be detected and if I should try and flash new bios, if this will correct this.  I am also with fresh install of xp having no difficulties shutting down system now and i am no longer having mystery unassisted boots of the system.
all in all, before the bios problem i was just wondering about the stability of the board with the ati radeon card.
Now I am very concerned with the message, "no driver attached to fast track controller... no bois detected"
any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Boy, do i miss that k7t board...
    thank you,
    Eric

Do NOT worry about the fasttrack controller message!!
It just says you don't have any serial-ATA disk attached. This is how to get rid of the message:
    In BIOS:
    => Integrated Peripherals
    => OnBoard PCI Controller
=> Serial ATA ---> set this to "Disabled"
Can't say I experience any of your other problems, although I had some problems with the sound card the first time I installed.
Seems as if the problems are fewer the more times you install/format the system.....actually experienced that on a couple of MSI-cards. In the end, everything has worked fine for me, so I'm happy with them (except design and layout of the new nForce K7N2G-cards!! ridiculous!)

  • KT4 Ultra FISR Updated Bios Still Reboots

I bought a KT4 Ultra last week.  I hooked up everything needed to install my OS (Video and Hard Drive) to install Windows 2000.  It took me a while to get a good install because it would crash in the middle of Win2K setup.  After reading the posts on the subject I upgraded the Bios to 1.3.  I no longer had problems with installing software of transferring large files between CD and HD.  Although a bit slow, it worked.
But now I have another problem.   The computer reboots when the CPU is being used hard, like running 3D intensive software.  For example I have 3D studio rendering and then I try to open Internet explorer and computer will reboot.
I check my PSU by measuring the voltage (with DMM) on the 5 volt line and causing a reboot during CPU intensive activities.  I even unplugged an extra HD and ran my FSB at 100 mhz.  I did not notice any voltage drop and the computer still rebooted.
I need to decide to if I want to return the MB, before I go out a buy a PSU and find out it did not fix my problem.
    Any ideas.

    Video Card is a
    Video: Compro GeForce3 Ti 200
    HD: Maxtor 30GB 7200 RPM ATA100
Power Supply (don't know brand name)
300W, with 150W for both the 3.3 and 5 Volts (at
    least according to the label)
The computer also rebooted while trying to run
Nero to copy a CD image to hard drive.  So I don't think its video card related.  I had this video card in my ABIT KT7 with no problems.

  • Kt4 ultra bios 1.3 ati problem

I updated my bios a while ago and when i did i noticed pixels in weird places.  I updated from 1.2 i was having problems with crc errors, after that i couldnt run any driver verision on my ati 8500le above 2.5  so i couldnt run 3.0a 3.1. i was just checking if anyone else had these problems when updating to 1.3 on there kt4 ultra. and i flahed twice the first time i thought it was a bad flash or something. i was running 3.0 and downgraded. i am hoping msi will fix this issue but who knows. overclocked or under clocked i still have the problem.
    i am running 2.13GHz overclocked from 1.73
    kt4ultra
    768 ddr400 running at 333MHz
    ati 8500le

I've done that, but the problem still exist.
I think it's more like a BIOS problem since there's no problem when I'm runnign 1.1 instead of 1.3

  • KT4 Ultra Bios 1.2 Doesnt Work

I have just updated my Bios to verison 1.2 and the computer wont go into windows.
Infact I have found the problem to be the USB Via chipset thats at fault. I have Windows Me and the the computer freezes every time it tries to load USB.
I have put version 1.1 back on an no problems.
I have reloaded windows and  the following error appears.
Windows has had to disable the USB function due to a internal problem.
I try to reload the drivers and it freezes.
I have just spent 8 hours to find the problem was the usb chipset.
Does anyone else have the problem ??
    Thanks

I am running a KT4 Ultra with XP2000 Cpu. I updated my bios from 1.1 to 1.2 over the weekend, and now my once stable system is giving me no end of problems.
1, It would not recognise my primary hard drive and I had to clear the bios with the jumper four time before it would let me boot up.
2, Once I booted up and ran 3dmark, it was okay the first time but the second time the machine crashed and totally corrupted my hard drive. I had to reformat my hard drive and load a backup (two weeks old).
3, I have now re-flashed my bios back to 1.1 but although the system is working I keep getting CRC errors when trying to backup my hard drive to my secondary drive. This did not happen before.
This 1.2 bios seems more like a rushed beta version than a real bios update, it has given me loads of problems and I now have a system which is still not working properly.  Bios upgrades are supposed to fix problems not create them!!
I would NOT touch this 1.2 with a long barge pole !!!

  • KT4 Ultra Bios 1.4 fixed?

There was an issue with the 1.4 bios update for the KT4 Ultra chipset and the temperature reading. I was misreading the temperature. Does anyone know if this issue has been fixed? I contacted MSI about it several times but haven't heard anything back.

Nope, still the same dated one as before.
Also when I installed v1.4 it sent Windows XP settings nuts with the HLT command enabled in bios.
So no matter if anyone says the bios is fixed,it aint yet.
There will be a different date on it anyway.

  • KT4 ultra new bios

When is MSI going to update its bios? still the buggy 1.4 bios is the latest. The bad CPU-mobo temperature readings must be fixed!!!

    Hi:
It's still a mistery when MSI is going to post a new BIOS for KT4 Ultra.
They currently have a version that is still BETA, so if you're interested, yo can go at MSI support and they'll send it to you via e-mail. This version supposed to fix the same monitring problem but I see no difference between this version and verson 1.4.
    Hope that helps.
    Edyros!

  • Raid BIOS Gone (KT4 Ultra-BSR)

I recently bought a Serial ATA Hard Drive wanting to install it on the raid controller.  But when I went to enter the Raid Controller's BIOS FastBuild Setup (at boot-time), it never shows up.
I have the KT4 Ultra-BSR, and I can see the RAID Controller enable/disable option in the Integrated Peripherals.  I have it enabled, but it NEVER  displays the RAID bios at boot-up.  This is the second KT4 Ultra I've had and I know I saw the RAID bios on the first one I had. I have the latest system BIOS installed (1.30).
Has anyone experienced this and/or know how to fix it? Is there a way for flash the RAID controller to possibly fix it?  Did the entry to the setup change from whats in the manual (ctrl-F4)?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've seen a couple other post like yours Shark. While that makes me feel a little more comfortable that other are having similar problems, I thinks mine's a little different.  I don't ever remember seeing the RAID BIOS on this motherboard.  I've tried turning it off and on in a row to see if mine would eventuall show, but I never see it.
Does anyone from MSI read these? I think something should be done.

  • KT4 Ultra won't boot if I change settings in BIOS

I can't change any cmos settings either. If I change anything in the bios at all it won't boot. it will turn on but won't boot. so I have to clear the cmos to get into windows and my 2500+ Barton is running at 1050mhz because I can't set the fsb to 166(333) like I should be able to. And I just bought the chip yesterday.

Well, its not yet conclusive that your BIOS is bad, all we are saying at this stage is that with a new CPU, you can change settings but it will not Boot. Correct?
When you update a BIOS you only do not always change all the data stored in the memory.
I have, before now, resorted to to using the emergency recovery feature of the BIOS that is well documented.
This way, subject to the memory not having any bad addresses, you completely re-program the BIOS I.C.
Have you tried  BIGRHINO suggestion first?
    Kind Regards

  • KT4 Ultra BIOS Update soon?

Has anyone got any info about the intended release date of the next BIOS update for the KT4 Ultra 6590? It seems the KT4V is getting a load of updates....

    obviously not - lol

  • KT4 Ultra get Bios but do not get windows problem

    Grateful for advice on this.
    I have Kt4, AMD 2200+ and 512mb PC3200 400mhz RAM.
    Graphics is GF2 32mb.
For some reason, windows XP will not load to the login screen. The sequence of events is this.
    1) Bios is totally fine and RAM, CPU, Graphics card are all recognized.
    2) Windows XP loading stuff appears fine
    3) Screen goes black and i get no windows login screen
    Any ideas anyone?

    Woody cheers.
I had kinda resolved myself to the dance of OS re-install.
FYI though, this is how the problem occured....
I was running my gF2 card on W2k last week and all was cool. Then, I installed my friends GF3 64mb card and then upgraded to XP. All was fine then too.
I have given his card back and replaced my gF2 in its place. Reinstalled the nVidia drivers and rebooted.
This is when the problem began. I have never encountered a card downgrade problem before. I was tempted to think that the 400 ram was suspect, but maybe this is just a grasp at straws.
Is there anyting else here that confirms your suspicions?
    Cheers

  • KT4-V (6712) and 2700+ bios setting problem?

    Hi all,
Here is my problem, upgraded to kt4-V (6712) all is working except my processor speed. I have a Athlon 2700+ and in the bios set up I have gone to change the setting so that the right speed etc is read. The highest FSB I can go is 133Mhz and the cpu ratio on auto. Set the system higher and it will not boot up. MSI say to set those setting to 166 FSB and 13x cpu ratio. Result being the same. I have updated the Bios from V1.5 to V1.7 and set the SDRAM to 333MHz with the result being the same. Have I missed something somewhere. On bootup at the moment it's saying I have 2100+ so I now it's not running on full steam. Have not installed OS yet as I am trying to get the bios set up first!
    Any ideas.

    Top man Bas,
have set bios to default, and changed the FSB to 166, removed all but one memory (512Mb) and It works. Thanks for that, it was doing my head in abit. Silly question but did it lock up because of too much memory installed before the OS is installed?
