KT4 MS6590 IRQ conflicts

Is there any way I can change the on-board sound IRQ from 11 to 5(e.g)?? ?(
I need to do this to avoid conflicts as my Video card and usb controller. ;(
this conflict is causing 3D mark not to run and other system probs such as BSD's  X(
Here is a listing of my IRQ table.

Have tried to manually configure IRQ's to no avail using bios setup.
I have disabled ACPI function in bios and removed ACPI computer in win XP so reverting to standard PC setup.
this removed a problem of the Video card having an IRQ of 123!!!
any help would be appreciated thanx in advance

• Brand New mobo (P6NGM) with IRQ Conflicts, PLEASE help

I've posted multiple times in another well respected PC forum and have not resolved my issue yet. Would GREATLY appreciate assistance.
Here's my story and attempts:
I'm building a new PC for my parents:
mobo: MSI P6NGM
cpu: Pentium dual core e2200 (800fsb)
memory: 2g DDR2
video: Radeon 9600PRO 256MB PCI-E
I'm having problems in Device Manager.
the modem (Smart Link 5k Voice Modem) and something called the NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller both have a yellow-exclamation point on them and when I looked at their properties\device status says:
Quote
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (code 12).
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
I have all of the current drivers and latest BIOS installed (and confirmed).
I believe it's telling me I have an IRQ conflict and when I looked at the Device Manager \ Resources by Type, it tells me that there are 3 devices on IRQ 7, 2 devices on IRQ10 (my PCI-E video card and the 56k modem), and 2 devices on IRQ11 (the NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management).
I did a google search and tried disabling the com ports 1 & 2 (but could only find & disable com port 1)
but this didn't improve the problem.
I also tried un-plugging 2 front USB-2 ports from the mobo.
no improvement there either.
meanwhile, IRQs 2, 3, 4, 9, 14, and 15 are empty. Is there any way to assign to these?
Please help.  I just built a dual core AMD with another MSI mobo for my daughter last month and didn't have any issues with it.

yes, i tried switching to the other PCI slot (this mobo only has 2). no improvement
Last night, I also tried disconnecting everything (3 USB ports connected to the mobo) and performing a fresh install of XP. I was extremely disappointed that this didn't work either.
I also tried unistalling all of the devices on IRQ10 and rebooting with IRQ10 Reserved (so all of the devices would be assigned to something else). Then I uninstalled the modem again and enabled IRQ10, hoping that everything would have been assigned elsewhere and only the modem would be assigned to IRQ10 this time.
NO LUCK!
I've NEVER had so much difficulty with IRQs, and only installed 2 devices: the PCI-E video and a PCI modem.

• IRQ conflict

My DAQ PCI-MIO doesn't pass the configuration test and looking in the device
manager of Windows 95
I see a memory conflict which can be solved easily by assigning a new range,
but also a IRQ conflict with
my IDE controller. I dont't manage to solve that last one. I know for sure
that there are IRQ adresses available,
I can't change anything in the device manager and the boot manager also doesn't
give me possibilities to
change anything. Dell says that I should contact NI, but here I also don't
find a solution. Can somebody
help me??

You can only change the IRQs using the NIDAQ Configuration Utility or
Measurement & Automation Explorer if you are using Windows NT and an AT board.
If you are using a PCI board, the board's resources are assigned by the BIOS at
boot-up, and they can only be changed from the BIOS. If you're experiencing
resource conflicts with a PCI-board, I would suggest switching PCI slots,
preferably to one closer to the motherboard. Some BIOSes will let you reserve
resources. Try reserving an IRQ for your board. You can also try upgrading
your BIOS. If you're using a DELL computer, I would recommend trying all
revisions of their BIOS to see if that resolves the problem.

• PCI-1428 BIOS IRQ conflict on boot

My PCI-1428 board works fine in a Dell Diminsion 8600. Moved it to a new Dell Optiplex 780 and I get a bios error when I first turn on the computer saying there is an IRQ conflict. Is there any what to get this card to work in the Optiplex 780?

Hi JoePar,
I found a good KnowledgeBase that explains
this issue. I think it might be helpful to look at it, and try what's suggested.
You also might want to contact your PC manufacturer to see if they have any
Bios updates or so for your PC.

• Please help AMD ATHLON XP W/ KT4 MS6590 CANNOT INSTALL WINDOWS 98/ME/X

Hello all
I just built my system 2 days ago and I still cannot install any version of windows. everytime I try to install windows 98/ME or Xp I get errors. The computer boots fine and doesnt freeze up or anything like that and i changed the FSb to 133mhz so it registers as AMD ATHLON XP 2000.
my system is as follows
KT4 MS6590 (the version that comes w/ the 5.1 dolby digital bracket.
AMD ATHLON XP 2000
256 MB DDR pc 2700 ram
48x CD rom
ATI RAdeon 9000 128 MB Oem video card
Enermax CS3051L alum/acrylic 350watt neon case
15 gb maxtor HDD
I am using an old hard drive but it works fine in the other p3 system.
My case is one of those designer enermax ones that have the blue neon installed inside
Includeing the cpu fan I have got 4 installed all together.
I am useing the optimal settings
I have no clue what to do next.
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for replying.
I tried for 2 days with default settings and all the different types of settings i can think of in the bios.
Finally i disabled all the caching options , disabled apic and windows xp was able to install but took me almost 4 hours to install :( .
the problem is i think i have bad RAMS I also changed the ram which is pc 2700 ddr from 333 mhz to 266 mhz. Before i was getting some module erros as well as some setup errors. I read that bad rams can cause these erros.
I would like to know my 256 MB pc 2700 DDR running at 266 mhz . how much percentage of system speed am I loseing?
Also is flashing the bios from diskette a bad thing and can ruin the board and also regarding the beta bios . has there been any mishaps from anyone using it.
I like this motherboard but i got to admit its a pain in the ass. esp with all the configurations there is to do. some of them i am not even too sure if i should be using them or not. I am also afraid to touch them bc my system might become unstable and unreliable.
also is there an led on the motherboard for the kt4 ms 6590 I dont see any. This is my first time building a system and setting it up myself.  so any help is appreciated

• CMEDIA / AGP IRQ Conflict

I have a KT4 Ultra (MSI-6590) with BIOS v1.4.  Am using the onboard CMEDIA audio with a GeForce4 Ti4800SE AGP video card (8x).  The devices seem to be sharing IRQ 16 and it is causing my audio to stutter during certain graphically intense applications (games).  I need to know how to resolve this conflict BESIDES using an add-on audio card.  Thanks.

From what I understand, the only way to disable 8x is with a piece of scotch tape.  That's just not something I'm willing to do - stick a foreign substance in my AGP slot.

So, my first question is obvious, what's wrong with my system?, am I missing some BIOS setting?, I believe APIC may have something to do, but this isn't the case because it is enabled (at least it says so in BIOS). I have the latest BIOS for this mobo (5.40)
The second issue is something strange that Sisoft Sandra keep telling me: "SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate", an here's what the help says:
=================================
Notice N224 - SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate. This information is reported verbatim and cannot be checked by Sandra. While brand-name companies set this information most generic manufacturers use generic data that is meaningless. This issue generates more technical support queries than all other issues combined.
Fix: If the information is not correct, check for a BIOS update (clear DMI pool) or fix any errors using the DMICFG tool provided with the board. Alternatively, disable Sandra’s DMI/SMBIOS reporting from module Options.
=================================
Is this "normal"???
Anyway, I hope any of you to be able to help me.
Thanks in advice,
Fernando

Although I am unsure as to what is exactly your problem, but from what I see everything seems ok
Regarding the Sisoft Sandra remarks, don't worry about it.
Regarding the Computer in Device Manager
Try changing it to
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
This has not given me any problems at all.
Here is my system example

• KT4 Ultra IRQ problem

Hello Everybody !!
I have small problem... Two months ago i bought my fantastic KT4 Ultra... :D I'm very happy of that.
Everything works fine, but my agp PNY Geforce4 Ti 4200 has the sam irq 16 like my integrated C-media 8738MX  sound card.
The question is:
Is it bad or not ??? If it is bad, how can I change the IRQ for my Geforce card???? Becauce it is impossible to change IRQ in Windows XP. I know that there is possibility to change IRQ in BIOS, but I dont know what PCI slot is shared with AGP.
I will be very grateful for any help.
My configuration:
Windows XP SP1
MSI KT4 Ultra-B
C-Media 8738MX integrated sound card
PNY Verto Geforce4 Ti 4200   64MB
2 x 256 MB DDR333
Lite On 48/12/48
Maxtor 40 GB Ata 100

I had problems with TV cards, had the TV@nywhere and a Leadtek TV2000 XP Delux. I eventually got them both working. Win2k and WinXP disable the control ability of PCI interface which stops you from installing new cards and drivers. I fixed it by
1. First remove any unknow devices in "Device Manager".
2. Run regedit (WinXP) or reget32(Win2K).
3. Check to make sure that "full control" for the profile that you are using i.e. Admin is allowed in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINEsystemControlset001enu mPCI.
3 keys need to be changed to "full control".

• PCI/AGP IRQ conflict in Win2000

Frenchy writing from France
Angry & impatient I am, but first things first, my specs:
PSU: Antec Trueblue 480W
Mboard: K7N2 Delta-L, BIOS 5.2
RAM: 2*512 Mb PC3200 Samsung, set at 400Mhz
CPU: Athlon XP 2400+, set(o/c) at 11*200 (thus 1:1 with RAM)
Winfast Geforce 4Ti 4200 AGP 4X
Creative SBlive 1024 now in PCI slot 3
HSF: Taisol CGK760172, fan in extraction mode (to reduce chipset temp by 5°C!!!)
Enermax 80mm case fan
Two recent HDDs (Maxtor) & optical drives (Liteon)
USB ADSL modem
APIC disabled
OS: Microsh*t Windows 2000, SP4
System status: CPU 49°C, chipset 47°C (weather temp: 41°C!)
Here goes:
My system sometimes crashes when I simultaneously play a movie, and an mp3 (I get a "sound loop", system freezes, no blue screen but I need to reboot) or on even rarer occasions (only once, actually) when I send an email (this time I got the dreaded blue screen.
I have pinpointed a possible and highly probable cause for this: my Vcard and soundcard share the same IRQ (IRQ11 to be precise). My SBlive used to be on PCI slot 2. This was (and still is!) my IRQ share/conflicts table:

IRQ 11   OpenHCD standard USB Host Controller
IRQ 11   OpenHCD standard USB Host Controller
IRQ 11   Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
IRQ 11   Creative SB Live! Value
IRQ 11   NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200

IRQ11 is thus not shared only by the Vcard & sound card, but something told me that the first 3 lines of the table did not matter, however I've often heard (and read, even in this forum) that having a graphics card & sound card share the same IRQ is definitely not a good idea and should be avoided by all means.
Forgive my lack of knowledge, for I'm but a mere newbie in this matter. This I tried:
- Enabling APIC (whatever it is ?( I just know that it sort of "creates" more IRQs), to no avail: the number of IRQs, their layout and conflicts table remained unchanged.
- Moving SBlive from slot 2 to slot 3 and reinstalling its drivers: NOTHING changed either, soundcard IRQ remained at 11 !!!  ?(  ?(  ?(
Upon entering 'system properties' and 'devices', when selecting the SBlive card, in the 'resource' thumbnail, everything is greyed out, no parameters can be changed! Same thing applies to other devices such as Vcard, too...
A most desperate situation this is, for it would seem that changing a PCI card's IRQ in Windows 2000 is simply IMPOSSIBLE, sacrebleu!
Needless to say, this makes me mad X( , I mean really, really MAD

If anyone could help...

Changing WHAT??? If you mean the IRQ, as I said that seems impossible in Win2000 (if somehow could tell me how I'd be most grateful). If you meant changing APIC setting to 'enabled', how do I enable it in windows?
But the question remains: how is it that when changing soundcard's PCI slot its IRQ remains unchanged?? ?(

• [TV@Master] Possible IRQ conflict?

I recently purchased and installed MSI TV@nywhere Master and encountered nothing but problems since.
I had a hell of a time convincing MSI that I was in Canada and not in Afghanistan. It would also not believe I had a cable hooked up to it. I finally got that fixed then I tried setting up the channels using Autoscan ... WOW what an experience that was. For a few minutes I could actually see TV channels whipping by. Then nothing but a black screen.
I tried a reboot and got a hissing noise before XP even started. I was not sure if it was the TV tuner or the radio, so I opened MSI radio and then shut it down. The hiss disappeared but so did my internet connection. Actually the router shut down one port. I run a Blitzz Wireless G router with 2 computers hooked up by LAN cable and one using the wireless. Both the other computer on LAN and the one on wireless stayed connected.
I uninstalled both the MSI PVS and radio and did a reboot. Nothing! I had to repair XP from the CD to get back to where I was before the fiasco started.
I am convinced there is a conflict somewhere and am looking for solutions before returning the product and buying a different brand.
Would the drivers mentioned in another thread be the solution or using a different PCI slot?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I hate downtime.

Wow, it looks like you have quite a bit of stuff on IRQ 10. My guess would be that another device is using that IRQ and not letting the 6024E use IRQ 10. Fortunately, it looks like you should have plenty of other resources available, so I would try to configure your card on another IRQ. Hopefully you can go to the properties on that card in the device manager and try to manualy set the IRQ to one that isn't being used. Good luck.
Steve.

• KT4 ms6590 and raid

I purchases a kt4 board and built my own computer in January.  It has two 80Gbit hardrives,DVD drive, and cdrw drive.  I connected the two hardrives to Ide1 and the dvd and cdrw to Ide2.  Did not try and use the RAID connections since I did not know much about it.  I am now wandering should I have connected the hardrives to the RAID IdE3 connection.  I have seen from reading here that IDE3 will only allow one hardrive to be connected even though my book says it will allow two.
In short I am planning on adding a DVD recorder and was wandering if I should use the RAID connection and if so how.  Would like any info on the use of the RAID since I do not know much about it.

You cant use 2 IDE drives with your raid controller on KT4. If you want to use your hard drives at least you have to buy a SATA converter and plug one in IDE and the other one SATA connector. But if you wil have a dvd-rw drive you with 4 more ATA devices you have two options.
     1) First thing I told you one or more SATA converters. But dont forget every good thing has a bad side like RAID. You have to redo the partition for both drives.
     2) No raid solution you can always attach one of your hard drives to RAID IDE connector without a RAID array. Basicly you can use it as an extra IDE connector.

Appears to be no option to force lan irq which subsequently follows the video irq.
I have tried reserving irqs to force an different irq with the lan disabled, but it still loads on the same irq as the video card.  Any suggestions or is the lan sharing with the agp port and so may consider it useless?

Yup buy a NIC and pop it in . I had that same problem sharing my onboard sound with AGP video.I know people say sharing IRQs in XP pro is no biggie but with so many available IRQs i dont understand how anyone would want to , especially if they are hardcore gamers such as myself........
I popped in my Gamer x soudblaster and killed that problem .

qjackctl executes the following on jackd startup:
chrt -f -p 89 `pidof "jackd"`
I'm using an Echo Indigo IO on a satellite a135-s4656.
With wireless disabled, kernel26rt (2.6.21.rt8) from proaudio repo gives no xruns with 64 frames/period.
With wireless enabled, kernel26rt gives plenty of xruns.
vanilla kernel gives xruns both ways...
Is there a way to swap IRQs between wifi and the card slot?
Any ideas??  Is acpi an issue?  I need the wireless enabled because I'm trying to collaborate by routing Ardour through Skype.

So I finally figured this out... The following page was enlightening:
http://tapas.affenbande.org/wordpress/?page_id=6
I guess the vanilla kernel is a regular preemptible kernel without threads for hard irqs?
Anyway, the following worked for me with the real-time kernel:
chrt -f -p 99 `pidof "IRQ-17"`
I had tried this before with the vanilla kernel, but I was confused because I couldn't find a pid for any IRQ process.  I didn't realize that this had to do with what type of kernel I was running.
Anyway, everything works great now (jackd running with a priority of 75), even with compiz fusion cranked up!

• Onboard IRQ Conflicts

I'm about to get an AMD 64 system and I had my eyes set on the MSI K8T Neo 2 until I read the review on http://www.hardocp.com .
The review states that when using the onboard gigabit lan there is a considerable performance lag.  I was wondering if any of you have noticed this and is it a real problem?
Also, are there any conflicts with any of the onboard features and the pci/agp slots?
Thanks

I did look at the review.  Here is what it said about the lan lag:
Network Utilization Tests
Hagel Technologies’ DU Meter software was used in conjunction with Windows Task Manager to measure the performance of the onboard Realtek Gigabit NIC. DU meter was used to measure bandwidth, with Windows TaskMan to monitor the CPU utilization on the test system. For the test itself, a 750MB archive file containing various sized .WMA audio files for the large file transfer test and 750MB worth of various sized .WMA audio files for the small files transfer test were used in conjunction with an Intel Gigabit NIC on the host system, and a crossover cable to connect the host system to the test system. A crossover cable was used to rule out any possible bandwidth losses due to hub or switch passage.
The Realtek NIC performed well as far as average transfer rate for a Gigabit based Ethernet solution. The average upload was much faster, beating the download speed by 10 MB/s. However, this increased speed comes at an unacceptable cost of an almost 50% CPU utilization, with spikes as high as 60%. The CPU utilization during download was not much better, averaging between 30-40%.
The large file transfer test results identically mimicked those of the small file transfer tests. We again see the unacceptably high CPU utilization for both download and upload as well. MSI’s choice of the Realtek chip seems to be less than optimal due to the high system performance cost incurred while transferring files.
