KT4 : PB CPU thermal protection

I Got an issue with a KT4 Ultra, an AMD 2400+ (volcano 7)
My PC shuts as soon as the CPU temp is 53° Celsius.
Is there a way to disable the CPU thermal protection or to modify the value for shuting down?
Is there someone who got this issue and solve it?
Thank you for your answer.

Hi,
Quote
53° is when my PC is working in a continue use (reached after 5 minutes of export under Adobe Premiere).
32° is in average the temp when idle and with Cooler XP
This really looks like a cooler not mounted properly or not greased the way it should....
You are rising 21C, way too much for the type of cooler and CPU you have....
A normal change from idle to full load with your CPU would be about 10C give or take a few.....

  • Msi k8n neo2 platinum thermal protection

    hi all,
i've this board since 2 days and i am very happy with it.
Actually i am using my amd 3500+@2600 (236x11) vcore 1.55+5% and everything is rock solid.
Cooled by silent boost k8 cooler, the cpu is never overcome 50° after doom3 or superPI tests.
The problems is that in the bios there is no option to power off the mobo immediately if the temp overcome a certain measure or the cpu fan stops working.
I came from a long experience with abit boards and those options were always present.
How can i defend my cpu?
    thanks for all
    tommaso

Athlon 64 processors have a built-in hardware-enforced thermal protection (thermtrip)
that will shutdown the core if it exceeds its maximum specified temperature .
This is completely independend from any motherboard-circuitry.
Amd K7 processors don't have this of course and motherboard has the option
to shut down the system at a given temperature.

  • K8n neo2 CPU overheat protection and safe temps?

    Hello,
K8N neo2 has "CPU overheat protection", what is the cutoff temperature? Does it monitor temperature all the time?
What happens to FX-53 CPU if it heats above 70C and MB does not shut it down?
    Thanks

It does, I ran mine at 1.8v by accident and it got a bit hot Shut itself down and luckily caused no problems

  • KT4 Ultra CPU Upgrade Question

I am trying to upgrade my CPU from a 2100 XP to a 2800 XP on my KT4 Ultra and am running into trouble.  I was under the impression that all I had to do was turn up the FSB frequency in CMOS and everything would be OK howerver this doesn't appear to be the case.  Currently the FSB Freq. is set to 100 and I can get it above 104 or the system will not POST.  Has anyone out there put a 2800 with the latest BIOS in a KT4?  What setting need to be changed and what values should be used in CMOS??
    Help please!!!!

    set to 166

  • CPU Thermal Sensor

I have MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo. Under my CPU ( inside socket ) I have external thermal probe. Why ? It is not thermal probe DIODE inside CPU ? My temp reach 46 stby and 51 max 52 in all games or test.

    PS. Sorry for my English

    Hi,
bijurom: Well yout temps look OK anyway
As far as your second post is concerned I don't understand what you are asking. If you are asking, whether or not you need to update (flash) the BIOS - the answer would be - only if you need to!
If your computer is running OK without a BIOS update then leave it the way it is!
If you are having problems, and the only way to fix the problem is to update the BIOS - then do so!
Either that, or you are saying that you have updated the BIOS and it's running OK?

  • Are the NEO2 boards using internal CPU thermal diodes?

Temps change very rapidly and are high from start up but dropp after a while. Is it safe to assume that the temperatures is beeing read from the acctual cpu, and not the die?

The winbond temp sensor IC is updated from thermal registers in the A64 cpu.
And yes it's kind of internal diode reading on a64 systems .
Any work the cpu does will cause a tempeature change immediatly .
It's up to the temp sensor windows application to how often the winbond IC
is query'd to give a temp readout in windows.
Looking at the temp in bios it's updated every second .
It's definatly not like the NF2 motherboards that had a sensor diode in the cpu socket that needed time to get heated up from the
    underside of the cpu.

  • 890FXA-GD70 CPU overheat protection

Hi, I would like to know if this board have an overheat protection for the CPU ? if so, where I can check the setting for it.
    have a nice day everyone
P.S.   I ask because mine shutdown and when I go check and the Water Block was very hot, ( the koolance flow meter was leakin betwen the glass and the stainless cap ) I fix the problem and it's seams to work fine now

Actually I just finish to  setup core temp to shutdown the pc will not happen anymore as I set the temp at 45'c  it never go over 40. But it must have already a protection on the CPU as the PC shutdown, if it  crashed  because of the heat, it will have reboot no ?

  • KT4 ULTRA : CPU fan & AGP mode

    Hello,
    I have 2 problems :
1)Each first starting of my computer, there is 6 or 8 rings and it's written :
    CPU fan isn't running?  Y/N
In reality, the fan is running correctly, but it is thermoregulated.
This fan is connected to CFAN1 and I have another fan system in NBFAN1
Do you have a solution for this problem?
    2)In my KT4 MS-6590 V1.0, I have the last VIA Chipset Drivers 4.51 and I have a new graghic card Hercules 3D Prophet 9600SE.
In the Bios, AGP MODE is in AUTO (grey), I can't change.
    In reality, I saw it's AGP*2 or AGP*4, but not *8.
The informations in the Bios AGP Timing Control are :
    AGP MODE : Auto
    AGP Fast write : Enabled
    AGP Aoerture Size : 256MB
    AGP Master 1 W/SWrite : Disabled
    AGP Master 1 W/SRead : Disabled
    AGP Read Synchronization: Disabled
Can you tell me the reason why I can't affect 8 for AGP MODE
    Thanks for your answer

Richard_2003, you are right, in the control panel, it's running at 8x.
OK for the mode "AUTO" in the Bios.
For the fan, it's good like this

  • What about Intel socket 1156 (i5 & i7) CPU thermal monitoring? [SOLVED

Are there any patches to lm-sensors, or sources to kernel modules out there so that we can have such support?
I googled it about a week ago and did not find anything.

Cant find Core i7 or the Intel P55 / PCH in the Supported Devices List yet. But then again... that list does not look up to date. Because Nehalem should be supported (Intel Core i7 Thermal Monitoring Support), perhaps only S1366 based ones?
It's a bit late here, so i'm keeping my searches brief. Have an i7 860 myself but I've yet to try sensors.
I just know my temps are good over here from testing my rig using Win7.

  • AMD K10 cpu thermal sensor

Does anybody know about K10 thermal sensor support in lm_sensors? In theis svn changes it's listed in 3.0.0-rc2 (http://lm-sensors.org/svn/lm-sensors/trunk/CHANGES), but I have no modules in my Arch x86_64.
    Where could be the problem?

vit wrote:Found working module and made these: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28734
I installed the package, and sensors-detect says:
Some south bridges, CPUs or memory controllers contain embedded sensors.
Do you want to scan for them? This is totally safe. (YES/no): y
    Silicon Integrated Systems SIS5595... No
    VIA VT82C686 Integrated Sensors... No
    VIA VT8231 Integrated Sensors... No
    AMD K8 thermal sensors... No
    AMD K10 thermal sensors... Success!
    (driver `to-be-written')
Intel Core family thermal sensor... No
Intel AMB FB-DIMM thermal sensor... No
VIA C7 thermal and voltage sensors... No
    ...snip...
    Driver `to-be-written':
    * Chip `AMD K10 thermal sensors' (confidence: 9)
Note: there is no driver for AMD K10 thermal sensors yet.
    Check http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Devices for updates.
And lm_sensors still gives no thermal readings.

  • U430 touch thermal protection

    Hello,
are there any information at which temperatures the U430 touch will slow down the cpu and gpu?
    Best regard

Normally, CPU throttles at 85 Celsius and GPU at 90 Celsius. Run Prime95 to test the CPU throttling and FurMark for GPU throttling to determine the actual temperatures for at least 20 minutes. You don't have to run them at the same time.

  • KT4 Ultra - cpu temperature with 1.4 bios

    Hello,
this´s my first post; I need some advice with the cpu temperature in Bios, with the CPU alt option disabled in power managment, the temps are 3 to 4 degrees lower than the mobo has the 1.3 Bios. Some times the system temp. is 1 or 2 degrees higher than cpu. I should expect this difference with that option enabled just like coolerXP in windows.
Does anyone know wich bios is the accurate one?
    Thank you.

The previous BIOS releases did have some temperature mesurement issues and 1.4 was meant to address them however people are reporting varrying temps now so we need to collect more data.

  • CPU Thermals...and Artic Silver 5

I have heard many users throughout these forums and other mac places of discussion taking the heatsick off and using new thermal paste to improve heat transfer.
I was thinking about putting Arctic Silver 5 on there when I recieve my MacBook.
What do y'all think and what have you done to combat the heat issues?

    Here's some food for thought
    macdevcenter
The conclusion of the article, he only saw a couple of degrees lower from adding Artic Silver 5. Not worth the pain and risk of making your Macbook a brick. While the article is focused on the MacBook pro, I think the lessons taken away from this are directly applicable.
My MB has had temps around 60c after about an hour of normal use. If I push it harder by running some memory intensive apps the temp can go beyond 75c
While its warmer then I'd prefer from it seems to be "normal" by apple
    Apple KB
For me, the risk of ruining my laptop looms too large, the warranty will be voided and the result may be marginal at best.
Finally since I've never applied this stuff, why would I think I could do it better then Apple.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR Help Please.

    Hi all
I have a MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR motherboard that im putting together and I have a question.
In the middle of the socket where the CPU sits is a small CPU thermal protection sensor, my question is that the sensor is higher than the socket and will be touching the CPU when it is inserted is this normal or should sensor be bent downward so not to be in direct contact with the CPU?
I would not be asking this question if not for someone telling me not to put any external case sensor on the CPU direct only on the heat sink but in this case its built into the motherboard itself. Best to be safe than sorry I thought.
    Many thanks

    Hi Andy
I too have just bought an MSI K7N2-ILSR. On mine the sensor is bent down so as not to contact the cpu. Was like this when I bought it so I would suggest that it is not supposed to touch processor

  • K7n2g keeps reseting help

Read that this board has cpu thermal protection. But at what temp? cpu 57C case37C xp2200.works fine for a while then poof!! It restarts like nothing wrong.I,m totaly updated from bios to xp home

Do you know how any chips you got and what size and speed?
If you have 2 strips of ram try them in slot 1,3 or 2,3 not 1,2.  i guessing thats your problem this board is stuborn with ram.  There is a post that has brands that work you might want to check into one of those and try it.
