My systems runs great but when i play games sometimes my system crash and (very curios) before about 3-5 min of game play i see small interferences like small white orizzontal jolt similar the interference when a cellular phone ring near the monitor. the problem it persists with any resolution and any monitor refresh rate !!!!!
What i've tested:
I have the lasted KT4 ultra bios, test any Randeon Drivers (include the lasted 779 beta drivers) and lasted via's drivers
Near my monitor there isn't any interference source !!
Monitor is perfect (tested in other system )
it's not Radeon8500 problem because i play games perfectly in other system (a7v266 and same hardware)
KT4 are not damaged because i play game perfectly with another video card (geforce2 Mx400)
It's not a PSU problem because i replaced AMD athlon 2000 + with AMD Athlon 900 (the rest hardware is the same) and the problem it persists.
although i have 5 years experience under PC assemblage , I do not know that what to make!!!
is There an incompatibility with Radeon8500 and KT4 Ultra ??

It might be the AGP driving value problem. Set it to EA in BIOS. It works for most people with components like yours. If that does not help, switch to AGP 2x and see if the problem went away. If it did, look for other DGP Driving values and turn off some AGP related features (sideband, fastwrite etc)

See this post and try to draw come conclusions. Sometimes the Power Supply is at fault not because of being underpowered (which you checked with Athlon 900) but because of the incorrectunstable voltages and other similar crap. With 266Mhz fsb and 333Mhz memory interface the boards now are too sensitive to cheep power supplies.

Ok, i see your FAQ and i know that my power Supply is too small in fact under games my system sometimes freeze, but there's another problem, sometimes i see a white jolt on my monitor ?( , can this problem depend on too small powersupply ??

True, IF the specs are presented that way. Some obviously are, some obviously are not, and others can't even be deduced with a decent degree of certainty. KT4 Ultra (6590) need update of the Promise SATA RAID Controller PDC20376

The last Bios update AMI 1.4 for the KT4 Ultra (6590) have built in the bios version 1.00.0.18 for the PDC20376 (Promise 376).
I can configure 2 maxtor (6E040T0) sata1 in a raid0 array and it works under WinXP SP3,
but the 2 drives are working in UDMA5 according to the FastBuild Utility when the motherboard specifications talks about 150Mb (SATA1).
It's not an OS problem because the FastBuild Utility at Bios startup show the UDMA5 mode for HDD.
It's not a Maxtor 6E040T0 (SATA1) problem because have no jumper to set.
The Promise support center don't provide support for built in raid controller but the responce was that it's related to a known bios issue of the controller, so i have to update.
For the last Bios version for the S150 TX4 controller look at:

It's impossible to update the bios with the promise tool because the controller is integrated in the motherboard.
I read for example than on the motherboard K7N2 Delta-ILSR the bios version of the Promise 376 controller is 1.00.0.21:

I think the only solution is a modding bios, where i have to replace only the Promise controller bios but:
1) The tool amibcp.exe can't open the A6590VMS.140 AMI bios (renamed .rom), i don't know why!!!
2) What promise controller bios rom file is good?

This is my results compared to my other UDMA6 HDD on IDE1, HDTach long bench stop with "Read Error" and only quick bench works.
The version of the Controller driver under WinXP-SP3 is 1.0.1.29 and I configured the driver in the PAM Utility with:
"Driver Write Cache" enabled and "Write Back" as cache settings (The 2 Maxtor SATA1 in RAID have 2MB of cache, but i don't know How many cache have the controller!!).
The Burst Speed is too strange!!! quick bench error?

KT4 Ultra 6590

I got recently problem when i installed my new ddr-memory
It's a: ddr twinmos pc3200 512Mb (400mhz FSB) with winbond.
Something weird happened when running c&c geneals.
An area on the screen lost the graphic suddenly and went like black, and then 1 sec. after the whole system freezed. music hanged to beep.
And the only thing to do was reset.
Before this 512 memory I had a twinmos pc2100 256 Mb (266mhz) and had never any problems at all....
I have heard from a friend that kt4 ultra 6590 has problems with running memories in 400Mhz ...It worked though when testing to play c&c generals directly in a 4 hours period after I installd the memory this night.
But now something protested. ?(
But everything else works excellent in windows and all (knock in wood ;P )......huh???

http://www.memtest86.com , that can tell you if the memory and the board are getting along.
Let it run for about an hour.
If the test doesn't find a problem you should check and see if lowering the memory to 333MHz helps.
It might also be the power supply not handling it all with the new RAM and crashing under the stress.

KT4 Ultra FISR and Volcano 9 Cool Mod

I am building a system using the KT4 Ultra FISR and a 2800+. I am also using the Thermaltake Volcano 9 Coolmod fan which has LEDs on the fan. My question is this, the board has two sets of Power LED headers, a two pin and a three pin. The Coolmod is supposed to plug in to the Power LED header. Is it possible to use the three pin header for the fan and the two pin header for the case? I don't want to lose the front LED. I know Thermaltake says don't wire both front panel and Coolmod to the same header, but it doesn't say anything about two different headers. If someone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I hope I made myself clear. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean to use the two pin JFP1 Power LED for the case and the 3 pin JFP2 for the Volcano mod? I dont think it should be a problem, my LED's are mixed and matched between the two headers. You could test it with a multimeter to see what the output of one header is while the other is connected to its LED.

I have the following problem... RANDOM BOOTS! :( I dunno what is the problem... But I have some questions to MSI and for you... My KT4 hasn´t a cooler chipset on northbrigde, is it normal? Cause my system temperature is between 46ºC (idle) and 48ºC (full)... and my CPU is 47ºC (idle) and 52ºC (full)... HELP! HELP! HELP! What should I do? Ah, BIOS version is 1.2...

Your PC setup is pretty similar to mine. I had similar reboots as well and suspected the KT4 Ultra. It turned out to be a dodgy stick of RAM. Try the ramtesters from http://www.simmtester.com and http://www.memtest86.com, they'll definately find any RAM problems. Other than that disable the auto reboot on crash and see what the message on the Blue Screen tells you.
For info, since my rebuild with a new stick of ram I'm running...
4in1 v4.45
Latest MSI drivers from MSI Update v2 (except the beta graffics driver)
Bios 1.3 (though 1.2 seemed ok to me)
XP SP1 with all updates from MS.

Kt4 ultra bios and raid function

i am using the kt4 ultra motherboard (bluetooth ready and SATA), when i go to the integrated peripherals, onboard pci controller i can only enable/disable the audio controller....
where am i supposed to enable/disable the raid controller?? is there a jumper i am missing on the board?

Are you sure you have a KT4 ultra with the Serial ATA/RAID controller option? There are several versions of the motherboard, all doesn't include the PDC20376 SATA/RAID controller, please check if you can find the chip on your mobo. The controller is enabled/disabled under Integrated Peripherals->OnBoard PCI Controller
->Serial ATA controller.

KT4 Ultra FISR and Radeon 9700pro

OK, I upgraded my MB from the k7t266pro to an Kt4 Ultra. I also upgraded to an AMD xp 2500+ and new DDR 333 ram. My video card is the ati 9700pro. This card functioned just fine with my old board as I never crashed.
Since I have upgraded I have not been able to play any 3d games!! all the games start and are playable for 2-5 mins then it just completely freezes my system. i cannot even do an end task and have to hit the reset button to restart the PC.
I am running Winxp home edition and am fully patched. I have also upgraded the bios and installed every new driver from the live update utility. i have the latest drivers available from ATI as well.
what gives here? I have searched Google and various other sites and i have run across many many threads with people having identical problems with this board and video card. my thought is that it is not the video card, as it ran flawlessly on my old MSI board. i do PC support and system admin for a living and 99% of the time I can resolve PC problems on my own, however, I am at a loss with this one. I have been a loyal MSI customer as this is the 4th MB i have bought from you guys over the years, but i can't help feeling disappointed right now. any ideas? This stinks as I was so looking forward to the upgrade in performance and now i got jack.

I took the advice of some of you and got a Antec 430w TruePower PS to replace my old one. Still no good. I was a little skeptical about the new PS thing since I run a pretty minimal configuration.

As you can see, pretty sparse. I soley use this box as a gaming type PC, so I try and keep the load light. At this point I think I would like the board replaced. Like I said, the 9700pro worked like a champ on my k7t266 pro, I doubt it is the new AMD CPU... so that leaves just the memory or the board at this point. I mean, driver wise I am using the same drivers as those that do not have problems. I am going to buy some high-end memory to eliminate that issue, but I highly doubt that will make the difference. I hope I'm wrong though.
Oh, BTW the option to change the AGP slot back to 4x is locked out for some reason. That kinda pisses me off too. I mean, at least give me the option to bring it back down to 4x.

KT4 Ultra board and AMD XP2800+

I just installed a XP2800+ chip into this motherboard and since the FSB one the 2800 CPU is 333 what do I set the CPU FSB clock to to get the 333 I need? According to the test chart the KT4 Ultra will support this chip and I did install the newest BIOS.
Any ideas appreciated.

KT4 Ultra-sr and AGP 8X

Here's the issue:
I can't get my board to recognize that I have an 8X aGP video card.
I have KT4 with AMI BIOS 1.0 (have tried 1.1)
VIA 4in1 drivers with AGP 3.0 support
Radeon 2.4 catalyst drivers
Tech support says to set AGP timing option in BIOS to "AUTO" ...... HOWEVER! this option does not exist in my BIOS regardless of version!
Powercolor video card tech support denies any AGP timing limitation on their card and insist it should be recognized as 8X
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!!

i admire your determination, but believe me its going to be a lot easier (and cheaper) to just buy another board. its not as easy as "finding the correct controller chip" and getting the soldering iron out. i certainly don't think you can just "buy" a single IEEE1394 controller IC off the shelf anywhere, and there's some VERY precise soldering in place, possibly through several layers too.
as an alternative suggestion, you could always change your PCI network adapter to a USB type, then you could use a IEEE1394 PCI card

KT4 Ultra (6590) - NB Chipset Sensor Fan

The KT4 Ultra have three Fan Power Connectors, how can i read in the manual:
"Fan Power Connectors: CFAN1/SFAN1/NBFAN1
The CFAN1 (processor fan), SFAN1 (system fan) and NBFAN1
(NorthBridge fan) support system cooling fan with +12V. It supports three pin
head connector."
The mobo have onboard a Winbond W83697HF sensor chipset.
With every software (PCAlert,Speedfan,Everest) i tried to read sensors statistics (Temp/Fan speed), i can read only two stats.
I have three fan connected:
1 for the CPU - CFAN1 (i can read Temp and Fan speed)
1 for the system - SFAN1 (i can read Temp and Fan speed)
1 for the NorthBridge - NBFAN1 (provided by the mobo itself and i can't read stats)
The NBFan is working and is three pin capable (three wires).
Every software show only two stats and not three with one all zero.
Now i have to change the fan or simple the mobo don't provide stats for the NB chipset?
someone with the same mobo can read this stats?

Has it been like this for 5+ years? Probably the sensor is gone or damaged. Don't think so, but it is also possible the fan connection is damaged, so not all three reach the motherboard. (Upside down?)
If you have no problem I wouldn't worry about it. Once you start experiencing problems get a fanless heatsink, from Zalman for example. Think this will fit:

KT4 Ultra(6590) over 13 Gb Boot HDD problem

I am stumped...Completely...
I have a KT4 Ultra I am setting up with 512 ram, AMD 1.3 gig XP, WinXP Pro, blah blah, all works fine...But it will not recognize a HDD larger than 13 Gb as master but will as slave.
I have tried numerous drives. It boots to a black screen with a blinking cursor.
Here is the drives that work as primary:
IBM Deskstar 13.6 Gb and a WD313000 13.2 Gb..Both load up fine..
Now I have these drives with operating systems and all, that just go to a cursor:
2 different 40 gb Seagate ST340810A, and a 20 Gb WD200
all work as slave drives and full capacity shows..I do not want my slower and smaller 13 gb to be my primary master.
Also they are not recognized as master in IDE3.
Please help!!!!!!!

I am not going to worry much over the PSU, my comp seems to run pretty cool.
Anyways I solved the boot problem and it was not the IDE cable backwards or jumper locations. It was because the drives i was trying to boot from were secondary drives on a dual boot system, i just did advanced install on the new drive and tried using that drive as master. Both 40 gigs are now working...Lesson learned. I am not an expert, but i am getting there
Now i have to figure out the IDE RAID thingie..I know there is already a host of info on it so i will do a search.

KT4 Ultra FISR and WD Raptor 74GB problems

Is it possible on the MS6590 to have a SATA drive on Ser1 but nothing on EIDE or Ser2? The reason I ask is that, I cannot get the drive to show in BIOS under "Standard CMOS". Thanks any help is appreciated.

Windows XP and MSI KT4 ULTRA 6590-FISR

Has anyone figured out how to do a clean install of Win XP with this board?
I keep getting a "Device Not Certified error", at which point I elect to IGNORE the error and continue. There is absolutely NO INDICATION of what the problem device is.
However, at exactly 34 minutes left "Installing Windows", the installation routine locks up and I can't go any further.

The 2nd day into this,(I am on day 5) I took out my RAM and replaced it from another machine...same problem.
I then took out my PS and replaced it from another machine...same problem.
Diagnosing/testing all RAM and the PS showed no problems.
I then went through the BIOS and performed a multitude of enabling/disabling system settings. By disabling the following INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS/OnBoard PCI Controller Item:
LAN Controller
I was able to get Windows XP to load.
However, I cannot get XP to boot...not in NORMAL, or SAFE or SAFE with NETWORK, SAFE with PROMPT. But I am making progress.

KT4 Ultra Raid and W2K3 Server

Hi, I am planning to install Windows 2003 Server on my machine. But before I go ahead and wipe everything from the hard drive I need to be sure there are proper drivers for my RAID controller in W2K3 Server. I doubt I can use the XP drivers? Currently I am running WinXP with the TX4000 drivers by Promise and that works fine! Anyone any experience with this mobo, raid and win2k3 server?

yea well of course I can recert to XP and do have a GHOST image :D. OK just dl-led and burnt the evaluation version from MS, will let u know if it installed correctly (either Promise's driver disk or MSI for XP).
