KT4 Ultra & AMD 2100XP+

I bought a new MSI motherboard and a 2100XP Athlon CPU. on saturday - put it all together and boot the machine and it worked - at 1500XP! Had a look on the chip and it says 2100 - so it's the right chip. Emailed the people I bought it from and they said to set it up in the BIOS. So I looked at the webbie and set up the FSB and the ratio as per the webpage, but whenever I set the ratio above 9.0 it hangs before boot so I have to clear the CMOS (using jumper), also no matter what settings I set for the FSB and the ratio I ALWAYS get it set at 1500. Please help - it is driving me nuts. I have a 55W PSU - the CPU idles at 35C. Using DDR RAM. If any other info is required just let me know.

what FSB are you setting ? also you should leave the ratio to auto ! also 55W PSU doesnt mean much look at some other post and see the kind of information people are asked for

  • Help... KT4 Ultra

    Hi,
    I Have the KT4 ultra + AMD XP 2400+ (FSB 266)
    My questions :
    1) Why I can't change the CPU cpu multiplier from "AUTO" to manual "15X".
If I change anything but "AUTO" the system hangs.. Is it normal?
    2) I wold like to understand how to overclock an unlocked XP2400+(133x15) to (12x166) if the multiplier desn't work...
    Thanks..

    To answer your questions
    1) Why I can't change the CPU cpu multiplier from "AUTO" to manual "15X".
If I change anything but "AUTO" the system hangs.. Is it normal?
Yes, it is normal because your CPU is locked and you can't change the multiplier without doing some bridge unlocking.
    2) I wold like to understand how to overclock an unlocked XP2400+(133x15) to (12x166) if the multiplier desn't work...
If it does not work, then it's possible that your cpu is not unlocked properly.  TBred's are not unlocked the same way as Palomino chips (XP 2000+ and lower speeds).

  • KT4 Ultra-SR (MS-6590) dont work with AMD Barton 2500+

     ;( Please help me any1.
I have MBO KT4 Ultra-SR (MS-6590) with CPU AMD Barton 2500+ and i have a big problem. System corectly boot only if a select CPU FSB Clock = 100 MHz (CPU Ration/CPU Vcore/DDR Voltage=all AUTO). When a select CPU FSB Clock 133 or 166 MHz, system begin run corectly and after few second turned OFF. I selecting SDRAM Frequency on=AUTO/266/333/400 MHz but not working. My old CPU is AMD XP Palomino 2100 MHz and work fine with KT4 Ultra MBO. I upgrade BIOS with 1.4 version. I change memory module with PQI (PC 2700/256 MB) and JETRAM (PC 2700/256 MB) but is same ":censored: ". System dont work. Bad CPU Barton 2500+? I dont no. Please help me any1.

Most of the time, this sort of problems arise because of power suppliy issues.. U have a enamax 300W PSU which is a VERY GOOD PSU but might just be on the line...
If u can, try swapping the PSu for a good 400 or a 420W PSU.. this might solve your enigma.. I really dont think this is your processor...
Read this two articles on PSu wrtten by one moderater which will aid in solve in fixing your problem (PSU1 , PSU2 , Troubleshooting Guide )

  • Kt4 ultra w/amd 2.4gh

I'm trying to install the kt4 ultra with an amd 2.4mh cpu using win98.
If I download the drivers from the disk provided, windows will hang up at the point at which the pci driver and/or the usp drivers are installed.   If I don't install them, I get a yellow "!" on the system device list and I can't get the usb to recognize my scanner.
    Can anyone help???
I can be reached at [email protected]

the 4in1 or Hyperion drivers are specific to Via Motherboards - the one that comes on your mobo's cd is version 4.43 i think - from memory, after that version Via renamed the drivers to hyperions - funky name. If you have old or obsolete drivers installed this may affect how your mobo works with it's devices. you need to get the VIA Hyperion 4in1 v4.46, released 10 March 2003 from :here:
it is entirely possible that installing these drivers may not solve your problem - but at least give them a try - failing that remove the devices causing the problems from your device manager and let windows auto detect them after a restart.

  • MSI KT4 ultra and AMD ATHLON 2600+ and Corsair 512Mb 3200

    Hello,
    i've bought a: MSI KT4 ULTRA and a AMD ATHLON 2600+
Today, i've updated the bios to the version 1.3! So: no problem to reboot after the process complete.
BUT, now i can't set the CPU at 2.16Ghz (280Mhz clock) because if i set the clock up to 100Mhz it doesn't reboot anymore! the motherboard detect the frequency @ 1250 Mhz :(((
    Please: HELP ME
(sorry for the grammar and / the english) but i'm a french guy.

    Hi,
I had the same issues, see the thread:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=11717&boardid=13&styleid=1
Essentially I had to set (in the BIOS) the FSB to 166 and left the Multiplier on auto.  This ment the processor was reported properly as 2600+, but the memory will only run at 333 MHz...  Yeah I think I wasted the money on getting the latest and greatest memory too....
Had me worried for a while, I though my supplier had palmed a bad chip off on me....  It just that the board can't do the highest speed chips and the highest speed memory at the same time (it states that that is unsupported in the manual...)
    hope the helps...

  • Incorrect KT4 Ultra mobo & AMD processor speed

    Hello everyone,
This is somewhat interesting. About a few months ago, a friend and myself built my system and it's been working fine with my games, AutoCad and all. It includes a KT4 Ultra mobo and an AMD XP 2000 processor, etc.
I didn't realized it then, but when I check under "System" icon under "Control Panel", it indicates that the processor is running at 1.25 mhz.
I know that the XP 2000 processor should run at 1.667 mhz, so why is my computer indicating the wrong speed??
The processor came in the original sealed AMD box w/ fan and all info.
Should I run another speed test from another software??
Is the mobo setup incorrectly and running the processor slower than it should be?? or the mobo running the processor fine, but showing the wrong speed??
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
P.S...I have also ran the "System Information" under "System Tools" and it also shows the wrong speed.
    AMD Athlon XP 2000

    Memorex 52x24x52 burner
    MSI DVD player
    Intel V.92 modem
    RealTek PCI Ethernet NIC

Check your motherbaord for the correct jumper. The board is set at 100Mhz jumper, but should be set for 133Mhz. Also, check your bios and make sure 133Mhz frontside buss is enabled. Listing computer specs might help things, too.

  • MSI KT4 Ultra and AMD XP3200+

    Hi,
Is it possible to run an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ on the MSI KT4 Ultra Motherboard?
I know the motherboard supports FSB200/266/333, but will the cpu work if I manually set it to FSB400 in the bios?
    Thanks for you help.

I don't think the cpu is unlocked, it is an original 3200+.
I thought you need an unlocked cpu if you want to overclock the cpu.
I just want to leave the multiplier on auto and set the frequency to 200MHz (its original setting).
The reason I need to know is that I stupidly bought the cpu without checking my motherboard FSB support and I cant return the cpu.
I have not received it yet and wanted to know if it was possible to get my computer up and running even if the KT4 Ultra does not officially support FSB400.
Would there be any harm in trying the cpu in my motherboard.
If anyone has managed to run an AMD XP3200+ cpu on a MSI KT4 Ultra, please let me know.
    Thank You.

  • KT4 Ultra + 2600 AMD XP

Ok, cleared CMOS - installed the new cpu
everything turns on and of course BIOS says there is an error with bad/default BIOS settings so the 2.16 Ghz is running at 1.2 Ghz but I cant get it to load windows ... any ideas if this is BIOS tweaking settings, or a format is defintely needed, id like to salvage some MP3s ;[
    KT 4 Ultra
    AMD XP 2600+
    Radeon 9700 Pro

    I don't think it's time to format.
First of all you need BIOS version 1.2 or older, preferably the latest. Then clear CMOS and go with default settings. You migh need to force your FSB to 166 and set multiplier to default.
    Good luck

  • KT4 Ultra board and AMD XP2800+

I just installed a XP2800+ chip into this motherboard and since the FSB one the 2800 CPU is 333 what do I set the CPU FSB clock to to get the 333 I need? According to the test chart the KT4 Ultra will support this chip and I did install the newest BIOS.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks

we need power supply info: watts, and amps on 3.3v/5v/12v
you may also have a cpu overheating problem, double check the cpu heatsink

    Hey all,
I'm having an issue trying to get my fsb up to 133mhz w/ the kt4 ultra. It sticks at 100. Also it's detecting my processor speed as a 1500 instead of the 2100xp that it is. I hope you guys can help me, it seems like I'm not the only one to have this problem. My other hardware is great, just moved it over from an old computer. I'm still new at this whole msi thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's my hardware config too. Thanks guys,

I have done fdisk, Partition Magic format, windows install format, and format but I keep get this error. I thought that it was was the hard drive but I try install XP on my ASUS K7V mobo and it work without a prob.
The reason I reinstall is to turn off the APIC and APCI so I can stop the infinite loop error I been getting. I have restore the default setting and still doesn't work.

I loaded the recovery console from the XP CD and wrote a new one on there. Then the system loaded perfectly. No problems since.

  • Problem with KT4 Ultra and XP 2700

First excuse my bad english (i'm from Germany)!!
I have a heavy problem with my KT4 Ultra.
    First my system:
    AMD Athlon XP 2700
Mainboard: MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) Bios vers. 1.1
    MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 Mb
    512 Mb DDR Ram Apacer Technology 512 MB 16x(32mx8)DDR-SDRAM PC2700U-2533-700(CL2.5 upto 167MHz)(CL2 upto 133MHz
    Sound : Onboard
    GlobalWIN CAK38 II Kupfer
    Powersupply: Levicom 420W
    Win XP SP1
    Now the problen:
When i turn the FSB in the Bios up to 166MHz
the system crashes on Windows startupscreen!!
I've turned the FSP clock down to 164 MHz and Windows starts. But when i runned 3DMark2001 it crashes back to desktop !!
Then i turned the FSB clock down to 159 MHz and the system runns stabile!!
    Now what i've already tried:
Turned down Ram timings and frequency (same prob.)
    No heatproblem (CPU at 118.f)
Had the same system exapt an XP1800 instead an XP2700 and no problems!!
Called the MSI hotline (Germany) and they told me to type the FSB manually in the Bios (insted of numblock +and -).  ?(
Still the same problem !!  ;(
Has anyone the same problem as i ???
    THX !!

    Hi,
    I would try other ram....
Or start from BIOS default settings and only change CPU-FSB....
    See what happens...
