Kt4 ultra ati 9700pro only x2 agp locked out

hi
can anyone please help, just brought a  kt4 ultra and a 9700ati  i cant hightlight the auto in the agp rate set up in the bios..
i have  tried all new ati drivers
msi live update says i have newer or same bois
ati control panel only allows me to set x2 max
errrm no jumpers on board to set agp rate
i installed  mobo and gpu with a fresh install of win xp
even took ati 9700 out uninstalled driver cleared regdit
replaced with gf3 ti200  installed  went into bois
yipee allows me to set agp rate  not greyed out on auto
so set to x4 save bios.. uninstall gf3 blah blah....
once ati is back inplace the friggin  agp rate is greyed out on auto again.. which it sets on x2 in ati control panel and 3d.marks info both say x2
it seems to be a problem with the mobo not liking the the ati
dose anyone know if msi know of this problem ..or they have it in hand with possible bios update.
or as mobo is just 2 days old   return back to the store and say it dont do what it says on the  box..
hehe bit like a ronseal  advert
argggghhh the pain  please help my head can't take much more
my 1st msi mobo purchase and its not going to well
anyone know if the new gigabyte supports ati gpu's
wont bother with abit or asus
thanks for any help  "even if the ati is 1.1 it should still beable to set on x4 agp ???"   :(

  • KT4 Ultra & ATI 9700 & Black screen HELP

    Hi guys,
After first uninstalling the Nvidia drivers and then powering down and removing the Geforce 4 card, I installed a brand new ATI 9700 that I got from Mwave.com for $199.00. When I turn on the power all I get is a black screen - I can't see anything on the screen but I can see my computer trying to post by watching the lights on the drives and observing the D-Bracket.
The D-Bracket is indicating a system hang on "Testing base memory from 240k to 640k and extending memory above 1MB using various patterns". Led's 1&3 red and 2&4 green.
I did hook up the 12 volt adapter that came with the the board at two different locations just to make sure there was not a problem with power. I also checked for the presence of voltage at the adapter right at the card with a volt meter (12.3 volts). I also swapped the power connector from the floppy to the video card. The cooling fan on the card is coming on. I made sure the power connector was connected prior to powering up my system. I also tried clearing NVRAM. What is wrong??? Any ideas out there?  Do I have a bad card right out of the box ???
For now I had put my Geforce4 Ti 4200 back in so I can use my computer again.

for one try removing one of your memory sticks,,try that first,,,make sure your fsb of the cpu and the memory are 166,,,,it will auto detect the 8x agp if the card suports it,,,,,,do you have the card setted all the wat,,,,,,,,,,double check memory settings,,this card i have found does not like fsb messed with or the memory fsb messed with.....set memory to spd,,,,good luck

  • KT4 Ultra & ATI 8500DV

I just built a new system (first time) using a KT4 Ultra motherboard.  It was suggested by a friend who builts alot of computers.  I want to do video capture and burn DVDs so he also suggested the ATI 8500DV.  I read about it and like all the features.
System will not POST with ATI 8500DV.  I bought a cheaper card (Pine 32MB 3D Phantom XP-2800) to get the system up and running while I try to debug the 8500DV.  I have updated the AMI BIOS to 1.3.  I also reduced the AGP to 2x.  My FSB is set at 100.
    Any suggestions on
HOW TO GET THE 8500DV WORKING?
I took the 8500DV card to a shop in town where I bought the Pine AGP card.  He checked it on another motherboard with no problems.

I'm having problems as well with my aiw Radeon 8500dv on the KT4 ultra. I have everything updated except the bios Currently running v1.2. I can't seem to make a bootdisk that'll give me access to the C: drive so I can't update to 1.3 (got 1.2 through live update, and it created the bootdisk for me, don't understand why 1.3 doesn't showup there).
Originally I had problems with graphics not rendering properly in Dark Age of Camelot, other characters warping around or ghosting and world objects not loading, I've fixed that for the most part by getting help on with what everything in my bios should be set to. However, I'm also having trouble with DVD playback not working properly, I get constant artifacting on anything that moves.

  • KT4 Ultra SR/ IDE3 only see's 1 drive

I got a new KT4 Ultra - BSR (SR with bluetooth); and the IDE3 RAID connector only see's a single drive.  If I connect the IDE cable to IDE1 or IDE2; both drives are seen correctly.
    Master/ Slave Jumpers set correctly.
Tried a few cables; but they are OK; since they can see & access the drives via IDE1 or IDE2.
    Any ideas??

  • KT4 Ultra - How do I enable optical digital out?!

OK, guys, now I'm this far: |            | from going totally nuts here. How on earth do I enable digital out on the onboard C-Media soundcard on the KT4 Ultra? I used to have the KT3 Ultra, and that had a special mixer setting that did that trick, but I can't find anything here. I have heard mentioning of an MSI control panel item, but I have none. Is this a fault from my installation of the mobo, or does it not excist?
Hope somebody can help me, I have done without this for quite some time (I hadn't even connected the sound bracket), but with my main optical soundcard blown I really need this now!
Thanks a lot in advance!  8)

Thanks again. I did, and it worked. The amusing thing is that afterwords I tried uninstalling the apps, and the digital still worked. So now I get to keep the digital output without any annoying extra sound apps!  :D
My next project is probably impossible: I'm trying to get a Zoltrix Nightingale Pro 6 to work with digital output. I actually had it working nicely side by side with the C-Media interal soundcard (it just renamed the interal soundcard to "C-Media xxx 2"), but I could not get digital output. So my guess is that they are mutually excluding. But I can probably put the Zoltrix in another computer and run that zone (we're talking multi-zone sound system here) from that PC.  8)

  • JIUHB TBred 1700+ and KT4 Ultra

    Hi,
this is my first time being in this forum  )
I have a question about overclocking my new TBred 1700+ (JIUHB stepping) CPU on my KT4 Ultra board.
After i have installed the CPU on my board i changed the FSB to 166 MHz - no problem the FSB is running with 166 MHz  :P . Then i want to change the multiplier from 11 (default) to 12.5 -> nothing happens - the multiplier is still 11  ?(  When i set the multiplier to 10 also nothing happens - the multiplier is still 11. The cpu itself should not be the problem (the CPU should be unlocked by default) because i have bought two of them and the other CPU runs on an KT3 Ultra 2 board with FSB 166 and with a multiplier 12.5. Can anyone help me or tell me what the problem could be.
    System configuration :
    KT4 Ultra (Bios 1.30)
    2x256 MByte RAM PC-333 (CL2,5 - Infineon)
    Leadtek A280 TD - 64 MByte
    80 GByte HD - Barracuda V
    Juergen

    additional info :
in another thread ("Is my Athlon XP 2400+ Tbred B Unlocked? Please help!") i found the information that with the KT4 Ultra board the only way to unlock the cpu is the wiring trick.
@jkesa - is this what is to do when the L1 bridges are cut  ?(
@maesus - is there any hope    that this overclocking feature is maybe implemented in the forthcoming 1.4 bios to avoid such kind of modification like the wiring trick (other mainboards are able to do that)  ?(

  • KT4 Ultra FISR and Radeon 9700pro

OK, I upgraded my MB from the k7t266pro to an Kt4 Ultra.  I also upgraded to an AMD xp 2500+ and new DDR 333 ram.  My video card is the ati 9700pro.  This card functioned just fine with my old board as I never crashed.
Since I have upgraded I have not been able to play any 3d games!!  all the games start and are playable for 2-5 mins then it just completely freezes my system.  i cannot even do an end task and have to hit the reset button to restart the PC.
I am running Winxp home edition and am fully patched.  I have also upgraded the bios and installed every new driver from the live update utility.  i have the latest drivers available from ATI as well.
what gives here?  I have searched Google and various other sites and i have run across many many threads with people having identical problems with this board and video card.  my thought is that it is not the video card, as it ran flawlessly on my old MSI board.  i do PC support and system admin for a living and 99% of the time I can resolve PC problems on my own, however, I am at a loss with this one.  I have been a loyal MSI customer as this is the 4th MB i have bought from you guys over the years, but i can't help feeling disappointed right now.  any ideas?  This stinks as I was so looking forward to the upgrade in performance and now i got jack.

    System info:
    MSI KT4 Ultra FISR
    ATI 9700pro
    512 DDR 2700 Ram
    300w PS (AMD approved)
    Maxtor 30bg ata 133

I took the advice of some of you and got a Antec 430w TruePower PS to replace my old one.  Still no good.  I was a little skeptical about the new PS thing since I run a pretty minimal configuration.
    MSI KT4 Ultra - fisr
    AMD XP2500+
    Radeon 9700pro
    512mb 333DDR Ram
    30BG Maxtor HD 133ata
    Creative PC-DVD Drive
    1 Generic Floppy
As you can see, pretty sparse.  I soley use this box as a gaming type PC, so I try and keep the load light.  At this point I think I would like the board replaced.  Like I said, the 9700pro worked like a champ on my k7t266 pro, I doubt it is the new AMD CPU... so that leaves just the memory or the board at this point.  I mean, driver wise I am using the same drivers as those that do not have problems.  I am going to buy some high-end memory to eliminate that issue, but I highly doubt that will make the difference.  I hope I'm wrong though.
Oh, BTW the option to change the AGP slot back to 4x is locked out for some reason.  That kinda pisses me off too.  I mean, at least give me the option to bring it back down to 4x.

  • MSI KT4 ULTRA-BFISR + Ati Radeon 9700 pro = not good??

    Hello everybody!
First of all, i youst have to say that i think MSI have the best motherboards....
Here's the problem (i haven't buyed anything yet!):
I am going to buy MSI KT4 ULTRA-BFISR and ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, but i have read many places that Radeon aint working with MSI KT4-based cards! Im am going to buy an 520W Power (i aint so good in english so i hope you now what i write  :D )
I am also going to buy 2 x Cosair pc3500 xms ram... Is this one working with the motherboard by the way?
But my question is: Will the Ati Radeon 9700 pro work with this card? (i must remember to buy the 1.3 version!) I am gonna get my Radeon 9700 pro from USA, how can i now when i order that is an 1.3 card?
    Thank you for answering!  :]

I think also that even there is two drivers, that is not a reaseon why it isn't work. One time I install only standard VGA drivers, but result was that I got two standard VGA driver.  8o
First time I try without VIA drivers, then with 4.42 and 4.43 VIA drivers. Result was almost same all the time, it always crash when Nature test start, but this exist also to older mobo (Abit KT7A-RAID). Problem exits few games they lock up or stuttering. Ati demos works fine, but one time that car demo stuttering a lot, but I transfer data at same, so I'm not sure what was reason.
This moment I don't have possibilities to try Hyperion 4.45 drivers or something else, because it's my friend computer.

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and kt4 ultra

    Hello
i was curious to know of any problems with the Kt4 ultra motherboard and the Radeon 9800 pro??
my system constantly crashes back to the desktop, or completely locks when i play Command & Conquer Renegade.
there are also some "misdrawn?" walls in the game also,...
i have all the latest drivers for the motherboard and the card,(including the released today catalyst drivers from ati.com)
i have also tried the drivers from driverheaven.net, but same thing happens,...
    this is truly aggreviating...
    some system specs:
    kt4 ultra
    antec 380 true ps
    2500+ barton running at 11.5*173 @ 30c idle, 33c full load
    corsair 2*256 3200LL
built by ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb
ive read where you can increase the agp voltage to try and fix the problem...and i also saw where one guy was just going to buy another motherboard b/c of the issues...
    any help is truly appreciated
    thx

FWIW, in case anybody is reading this thread in future and has problems with this Board and this card, I can report that I have now(at my second attempt) successfully installed a Radeon 9800 Pro on MY kt4 uLTRA motherboard.
As noted above, I purchased a new Antec True Power unit, prior to installing for a 2nd time.   I am not sure whether that was necessary, but it certainly didn't hurt.  The successful installation process was as follows:
    1) Download the latest catalyst drivers from ATI
    2) Set monitor to lowest possible standard  (640 x 480, 16 colours if possible - in my case my digital monitor could not be set lower than 800 x 600)
    3) Uninstall drivers for existing video card
    4) Replace video card
    5) Install ATI drivers
    6) restore settings on monitor to maximum.
At that point, after restarting the computer, I had a CLI.exe error.   After Googling for this problem, I discovered that I needed to download Net 1.1 from Microsoft.  After downloading and installing that additional program, Radeon 9800 Pro is now working perfectly.

  • ATI 9500 & KT4 Ultra - 2 installs, 2 different results

    Ok this is weird.
i had a gf4 ti4200 on my msi kt4 ultra, worked really well. but i switched it for an ati 9500np 128mb. i tried it on and it worked fine.
i tried the softmod to 9700 and it worked fine.
everything was wonderfull till a couple of days ago
    the computer wouldn't boot windows.
it would stop after the loading screen
so i put my winxp cd and installed xp in a different partition. after that was done, i installed the ati drivers and control panel (same as used in the previous install). i tried 3dmark. CRASH and reboot of computer. hummm let me check the properties... hey AGP is disabled! so i instaled 4.45 hyperion, the same i have in the other winxp setup. no good. same black screen and crash.
so i installed directx9...just like in the older winxp. no luck. still crashes.
i'm running out of ideas, the only thing that misses there is updating windows xp, but i checked the windows update logs and none of them mention anything to do with graphics system. just outlook problems and stuff like that.
i can't update that install of XP cause i exceeded my bandwith already, so i can't check that out.
i'm preety sure the problems will still go on.
its a terminal problem cause no d3d aplications will run AT ALL.  one opelgl game worked  ?(  this is weird
thank god i was able to restore my previous winxp and it said the ATI drivers had gone bad. i reinstalled them and redid the softmod to 9700. its still working very well. but the other install just crashes immediatly.
    any ideas?

    ok i found the problem
both 3dmark ad DXdiag where reporting no agp transfers (agp texturing OFF)
i tried uninstalling via 4.45 agp drivers. no luck
then i installed 4.43 over the 45. it worked! no more crashes! i even got the softmod9700 working.
well, i don't understand why one install works with 4.45 and the other doesn't. but its the truth.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR AGP Speed Problem

    Hi all,
I've got a bit of a problem and was wondering if someone can help?
I have bought the KT4 Ultra FISR and am having a problem when trying to use it with my 8x AGP Nvidia ge Force 4 ti 4200 but the bois wont let me change the AGP speed to 8x, it insists that the highest it can go is 4x.  ;(
I have run the newest 3DMark03 and it's showing that my AGP is only 2.0 and not the 3.0 that is meant to be with the board?
I was wondering if this is the problem?
I have double checked with the Graphics Card Manufacturer and they have confirmed that my card is an 8x card and I know that it was running at 8x on my last board.
I have done all of the Auto updates on the MSI motherbaord update utility but there's still no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    - Ricky

    Hi there
Well I have the Inno36 Ti 4200 8x AGP card:
    http://www.ivmm.com/inno3d/geforce4/products_gf4_ti_agp8x_reviews.html
I know it's not the best card on the market but it should still be able to operate at it's advertised speed :P
A couple of the guys here at EA bought the card and theres are working fine on thier boards :(
I am not totally sure of the version number of my bios but does 1.3 ring a bell?
I wont be able to check the version till monday...
Like I said before.. I did notice that 3dmark03 noted that I was using agp 2.0, is that right?
    - Ricky
P.s. Thankyou for taking the time to help me out Its much appreciated.

  • Ti4200 to ATI 9700Pro on KT4

As the subject says, I'm upgrading from my Gainward T14200 to an ATI 9700Pro 128MB. I know the 9700 had problems with the KT4. The sticky says NOT to install or uninstall any VIA drivers (I have the latest on the board now). Someone suggested removing all of the NVdia drivers as well. Appreciate any input from you guys on how to do this smoothly (or is a reformat the way to go)?

Sorry to say it went poorly. First I removed the nVidia drivers and then used NFR and removed any traces of nVidia and ATI. Sitched cards and made sure it was fully seated. Loaded Cat 3.9 and problems began. Removed them, cleaned, and loaded 3.8. Same procedure and then the disc rhat came with the card (3.4?). I finally gave up and totally reformated. LOt's of work since I had just added a Maxtor 80GB SATA HD to create a 160GB Raid0 performance array. The XP install is really fast with this array and went perfectly (other than the hassle of creating the Array). I don't think my KT4 likes ATI. I'm sorry but I tried everything. Increased AGP voltage, AGP 4x, dedicated PS line, RivaTuner but although I could see the FPS increase it crashed in every other 3D Mark bench. I'm back to my GForce while I test it in another PC.

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) and Ati Radeon 8500

Hello. First of all excuse me for my english, but I'm italian
After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3 bios I had visualization errors in Windows XP (vertical black lines, font corruptions, ecc), so I decided to downgrade bios to version 1.2. Now MSI released 1.4 bios and I upgraded to this new version with the hope they had solved these problems, but they hadn't. Then I tried to disable AGP Fast Write and now Windows looks fine even if sometimes there are some black screens for few milliseconds during gaming.
There is someone that have my same problems? Any suggestion? I don't want to leave 1.2 bios forever

  • Kt4 ultra bios 1.3 ati problem

I updated my bios a while ago and when i did i noticed pixels in weird places.  I updated from 1.2 i was having problems with crc errors, after that i couldnt run any driver verision on my ati 8500le above 2.5  so i couldnt run 3.0a 3.1. i was just checking if anyone else had these problems when updating to 1.3 on there kt4 ultra. and i flahed twice the first time i thought it was a bad flash or something. i was running 3.0 and downgraded. i am hoping msi will fix this issue but who knows. overclocked or under clocked i still have the problem.
    i am running 2.13GHz overclocked from 1.73
    kt4ultra
    768 ddr400 running at 333MHz
    ati 8500le

I've done that, but the problem still exist.
I think it's more like a BIOS problem since there's no problem when I'm runnign 1.1 instead of 1.3
