KT4 Ultra Bios 1.4 fixed?

There was an issue with the 1.4 bios update for the KT4 Ultra chipset and the temperature reading. I was misreading the temperature. Does anyone know if this issue has been fixed? I contacted MSI about it several times but haven't heard anything back.

Nope, still the same dated one as before.
Also when I installed v1.4 it sent Windows XP settings nuts with the HLT command enabled in bios.
So no matter if anyone says the bios is fixed,it aint yet.
There will be a different date on it anyway.

  • Kt4 ultra bios 1.3 ati problem

I updated my bios a while ago and when i did i noticed pixels in weird places.  I updated from 1.2 i was having problems with crc errors, after that i couldnt run any driver verision on my ati 8500le above 2.5  so i couldnt run 3.0a 3.1. i was just checking if anyone else had these problems when updating to 1.3 on there kt4 ultra. and i flahed twice the first time i thought it was a bad flash or something. i was running 3.0 and downgraded. i am hoping msi will fix this issue but who knows. overclocked or under clocked i still have the problem.
    i am running 2.13GHz overclocked from 1.73
    kt4ultra
    768 ddr400 running at 333MHz
    ati 8500le

I've done that, but the problem still exist.
I think it's more like a BIOS problem since there's no problem when I'm runnign 1.1 instead of 1.3

  • KT4 Ultra Bios 1.2 Doesnt Work

I have just updated my Bios to verison 1.2 and the computer wont go into windows.
Infact I have found the problem to be the USB Via chipset thats at fault. I have Windows Me and the the computer freezes every time it tries to load USB.
I have put version 1.1 back on an no problems.
I have reloaded windows and  the following error appears.
Windows has had to disable the USB function due to a internal problem.
I try to reload the drivers and it freezes.
I have just spent 8 hours to find the problem was the usb chipset.
Does anyone else have the problem ??
    Thanks

I am running a KT4 Ultra with XP2000 Cpu. I updated my bios from 1.1 to 1.2 over the weekend, and now my once stable system is giving me no end of problems.
1, It would not recognise my primary hard drive and I had to clear the bios with the jumper four time before it would let me boot up.
2, Once I booted up and ran 3dmark, it was okay the first time but the second time the machine crashed and totally corrupted my hard drive. I had to reformat my hard drive and load a backup (two weeks old).
3, I have now re-flashed my bios back to 1.1 but although the system is working I keep getting CRC errors when trying to backup my hard drive to my secondary drive. This did not happen before.
This 1.2 bios seems more like a rushed beta version than a real bios update, it has given me loads of problems and I now have a system which is still not working properly.  Bios upgrades are supposed to fix problems not create them!!
I would NOT touch this 1.2 with a long barge pole !!!

  • Kt4 ultra bios

have a strange paradox regarding disturbing message at boot up.
when i boot my system i recieve a message:
"no drive attached to fast track controller.  no bios detected.."
i love msi boards and have used this forum in past very sucessfully with the assistance of BAS.
I donated my old system to a freind in need.  It was all of 11 months old and was a very stable system built on a k7t pro 2-ru.  It had all the bells and whistles.  what a mistake.
my new system is as follows:
    kt4 ultra fisr
256 mb ddr3200 samsung  (as recommended by msi)
    m-audio revolution 7.1
ati all in one wonder radeon 8500 64mb
2-80gb western digital special edition hard drives
    dvd/cd combo lg electronics  gcc-4320b
    athalon xp 2200
    550 watt antec tru-power psu
lian li case with 4 fans (of which only 3 work with the power supply while allowing fan monitoring)
    klipsch pro-media 5.1 speakers
    winxp pro
how i got there to the afore mentioned msge regarding controller and no bios detected...
I was experiencing a lot of problems with the new set up
    such as:
    1.  system crashes while viewing tv
    2.  unexplained boot up of system in the middle of the
night (that was freaky and kind of humorous)
    3.  other system reboots and difficulty of system
         shutdown
    4.  device driver failure messages regarding the ati card
         such as "atimmc.exe  driver failure"
all system crashes revolved around the ati card and after recoveries many registeries were messed with as expected.
all in all I got by with the system as long as i remained off applications involving the radeon card.
last week I checked into the forum here and noticed issues with this motherboard and radeon cards.
i went to the ati site noticed updated drivers, and at the msi site, updated bios for the kt4 ultra boards.
i did not have a floppy so i backed off flashing the new bios onto the board.  I currently have the first version (1.00 or something), the screen flashes so briefly these days.
i decided to reformat the drives and reload xp onto the new system and then retreive the newer drivers for ati card.  upon installation while reading my neurophysiology book upon boot up is when xp informed me that no bios was detected.   xp asked me if i wanted to continue.  so i did continue with sucessfull installation of xp.
being quite surprised that i could still get system on board, i am wondering how to get the bios to be detected and if I should try and flash new bios, if this will correct this.  I am also with fresh install of xp having no difficulties shutting down system now and i am no longer having mystery unassisted boots of the system.
all in all, before the bios problem i was just wondering about the stability of the board with the ati radeon card.
Now I am very concerned with the message, "no driver attached to fast track controller... no bois detected"
any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Boy, do i miss that k7t board...
    thank you,
    Eric

Do NOT worry about the fasttrack controller message!!
It just says you don't have any serial-ATA disk attached. This is how to get rid of the message:
    In BIOS:
    => Integrated Peripherals
    => OnBoard PCI Controller
=> Serial ATA ---> set this to "Disabled"
Can't say I experience any of your other problems, although I had some problems with the sound card the first time I installed.
Seems as if the problems are fewer the more times you install/format the system.....actually experienced that on a couple of MSI-cards. In the end, everything has worked fine for me, so I'm happy with them (except design and layout of the new nForce K7N2G-cards!! ridiculous!)

  • KT4 Ultra BIOS Update soon?

Has anyone got any info about the intended release date of the next BIOS update for the KT4 Ultra 6590? It seems the KT4V is getting a load of updates....

    obviously not - lol

  • Kt4 ultra bios and raid function

i am using the kt4 ultra motherboard (bluetooth ready and SATA), when i go to the integrated peripherals, onboard pci controller i can only enable/disable the audio controller....
where am i supposed to enable/disable the raid controller?? is there a jumper i am missing on the board?
    thanks in advance,
    brian

Are you sure you have a KT4 ultra with the Serial ATA/RAID controller option? There are several versions of the motherboard, all doesn't include the PDC20376 SATA/RAID controller, please check if you can find the chip on your mobo. The controller is enabled/disabled under Integrated Peripherals->OnBoard PCI Controller
    ->Serial ATA controller.

  • Mobo MSI KT4 Ultra, bios 1.30

?( Is this possible, if i connect two disks(master and slave) to ide3(raid)
slot and CDRW to ide1 slot, master(udma). Boot from master disk and reinstall windows xp
and Promise raid driver, so on......??!!
Disks are Seagate Barracuda IV 60Gb(identical). And is raid-0 any faster than typical ide100? Do i have to setup raid-1 if i wanna more speed(seektime etc)?
    How to setup arroy?
And what is raid bios? What is newest and how to upgrade....?

In the beginning it is difficult. Take it slow. You can work out yourself by using the web as the medium to provide you more information about RAID. There are plenty of search engines to help you.
Here is one article you can read: http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.html?i=1491 It is not idiot proof kind of article though. You need basic knowledge about storage devices.
There is a guide here to be able to help you. But DO NOT ATTEMPT if you don't understand it.

  • KT4 Ultra bios update?

Does the new 1.2 bios allow you to unlock cpu's mutiplier ? if it don't will msi ever support it ?

Just go to a hobby (perferably somewhere taht deals with model trains) and get some silver nitrate varnish!! it's about 8 bucks and its just conductive nail polish!! igot it used a toothpick and unlocked my ship and if something goes wrong it rubs of with alchohol very easily!! Also make sure you fill the pits in with either crayon wax of epoxy !! :D good luck!

  • Kt4 ultra BIOS pc health freezes

The title about says it all. Whenever I try to view the PC health menu in the BIOS the computer freezes needing a retstart as you cant move off the PC health menu - the arrow keys don't work. It happens immediatly on pressing enter when on this menu and I can get into all the other menu options without any problem.
It never used to do this maybe putting 1.4 bios on will put it right?
    Has anybody seen this issue?

Set the timmings for the RAM and CPU to the lowest performance. (the FSB, latency, 1T command off, priority, quick boot off)
If this does not work, you must flash the bios - use the CTRL+HOME mode with the bios file named amiboot.rom on a floppy.
Usualy this is a RAM issue, happening when you overclock. Try also replacing it.

  • Overclocking KT4-Ultra & BIOS 1.4

Hy. I've overclocked my 2400+ to 2300Mhz(170FSB). I had also to upper the core voltage to 1.75v (1.74real) so because of this I get higher temps. The thing is that I use a RaptorCool silent cooler and a 12cm fan blowing cold air into the case. This is obvious not enought but is silent. And I use the PC mostly for "domestic" things like watching movies and listening music and just ocasionally for games. Now I would really need the CPU Halt Command enabled in bios to lower my temperatures, but this is available only in v1.4. And if I flash to 1.4 I loose my preseted 13.5 multiplyer (wire trick) that is changing into 11 there goes my overclock.  The WPCREDIT method does not apply as I want to switch easy from Enabled/Disabled by just selecting in bios.
How could this be even possible? If this can happen (multiplyer from 13.5 to 11) why not also a bios to unlock the CPU?

The issue here is not why I want to overclock (doh) and also not the HDD performance. And I am among the users that flashed a lot the mobo and  that reported the v1.4 temps issue wich is not solved and I think it will never be as the support stopped. I needed the CPU Halt because was a simple ON/OFF thing. Now I find it was   because I would still need to enter the bios. So why not just lower the voltage?    But yet is this strange thing - how can the multiplyer change from 13.5 to 11?  This v1.4 bios is full of (unpleasent) surprises.
Anyone played the flash game Bubble Trouble? Well, that's a game that requires a lot of CPU. Even with Radeon9800 you will be in "trouble" if you don't have enought CPU )) And this is the main reason why I overclocked ) to play it while I run a movie on TV-out and listen to music on my usb earphones.

  • KT4 Ultra BIOS 1.4 Released

I've not tested it yet but here it is.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=356&NAME=MS-6590

I updated to 1.4. As always the update went off with out a hitch. I reconfigured all my bios settings after the new flash and everything seemed to be as it should be. When I got into windows (2000 SP3) I looked at my PC Alert4 Temps, they were incredible. 27C for CPU and around 30 for System. I was looking at the temps while benchmarking on PCMark 2002 so I closed the prog and right before my eyes the temps plumited and settled into 24C. that was 6 less than system. I'm air cooled and O/C by over 500 mhz so this is not possible. I rebooted thinking it was a glitch and when I got into the bios I looked at the CPU and the system temps and they were the same, at 30C. a little better but still not belivable. Before the flash I had system temps of mid 30s and CPU temps of around 39 or 40. Beware of this update, especially if you already have heat issues.

  • Athlon XP 2400 shows as Duron 1400 on KT4 Ultra? - Help!!

Today (16th) I noticed the PC acting a little sluggish so I decided to check the system properties to see that my processor shows as a 1400 Duron when infact its an XP 2400. Since I only noticed it being slow today - i'm guessing something must have happened.
About 7/8 MS critical updates came today - so I installed them as I always do and I assumed since they are the only things I installed - one of the updates may have caused the issue so I removed them all. . still nothing. I then did a system restore to 2 days earlier on my system (Win XP Pro) and still it shows as a Duron 1400 both in Windows and the BIOS.
I havent changed anything in the BIOS for the last 6 months - I havent updated it either.
I have used several CPU identifying utilities - both AMD and independent - non of them see it as an Athlon XP 2400. I am the only person who uses this PC so nobody could have even swapped the processor or anything as I am pretty much around the PC the whole time (incase u were thinking that!!)
Does anyone know why my Athlon XP 2400 processor is showing up as a Duron 1400 all of a sudden when I havent made any major system changes? Is there an update/fix/patch I need to get to sort this out? Is it a common problem?
    System Spec:
    Athlon XP 2400
    Motherboard - MSi 6590 (KT4 Ultra)
    BIOS - AMI v 07.00T
    Memory - DDR 512MB x2
    Thanks for any help!

thanks for your help guys! I opened it up and saw some dust on the CPU block and fan - but nothing more than I have seen before - but I gave it a good clean anyhows... I also decided to replace the CMOS battery because even though it was showing a voltage in the BIOS, given that its the battery that came with the M/B when I first bought it 4 years ago - I thought it was time to change it.
After the clean and the battery replacement - the system was back showing "Athlon XP 2400" in both the BIOS and system settings so I'm guessing it was down to the CMOS battery. So thanks for the help! I'm glad to have it sorted now! I have however discovered the Northbridge fan is dead so I'm gonna still have to open it up in the next few days to replace that! If only that were as easy to find as a new battery was lol ...
    thanks for your time!

  • KT4 Ultra Rocks!!

Well,,..With a new board and a few weeks of waiting my problems with my KT3 Ultra have been solved and i got a KT4 Ultra for 80$...It pays to take something back if it doesnt work...well heres the specs...:
    KT4 Ultra BIOS V1.3
Athlon Xp 1700+ Thoroughbred @1.98Ghz..155FSB X 12.5/13.0. Set in bios. Vcore for cpu is at 1.675
    GForce 4Ti 4600
    20 Gig Maxtor HD
    Antech SL400 Power Supply
    Soundblaster Live 5.1
512 MB DDR PC2700 (as far as i know)
In the post it says memory is running at 333FSB but i dont think that is correct...but everything else runs good.
i didnt think i could get this 1700+ to run this high but it seems ok..stable no problems....Im still only getting high 11000 on 3dmark 2001 se but its because im using windows 98se...until i upgrade to Windows Xp ...and also buy either a new nvidia card or go Ati im probabley maxed out.the CPU also runs at around a nice low 40c in temp..under load..so it is running cool....i am really suprised....Thx agoian for all your help......MSI Rocks!!!!...
Also the 400watt power supply was the key to solveing alot of my problems...power is the key to haveing a good stable running system......300watts just wouldnt do it....atleast not for me...

its like i said i have had MSI for over 4 years and i know the boards well...this is by far the easyies board to tweak..and perfect.....do you really think windows xp will help my video performance.....i really only use this pc for video games ....thats what im working towards...a perfect game machine....its only 94$....is it worth it or should i just be happy?

  • KT4 Ultra FISR & DDR400 memory ?

    Can someone please help....
       I have a KT4 Ultra, {BIOS v1.1} and an Athlon T`bred 2700+  which I want to run at 166fsb.
The problem is that when I use my PC400 DDR RAM module,[TwinMos} which is on MSI`s supported memory list, the thing will only work at 166fsb ,that is 333MHz not
the 400MHz it`s meant to run at.....does anyone know a way around this ?
Also, according to MSI`s website, the 2700+ should run at 166 with a ratio of 15 ,they say they`ve tried it and it works...well not for me it does`nt...I have to set the ratio to "Auto" in the bios to get it to run,and it does so at 13 according to Fuzzy Logic.
Now my CPU is running at 2.17GHz which is it`s advertised speed...so where do MSI come up with thier 15X166 figures?

Yeah thanks Bas...but I`m happy with the speed of the cpu,its the memory thats underperforming.
The TwinMos PC400 DDR RAM will only run at 333MHz,and not the 400MHz its supposed to run at whilst the fsb of the cpu is set at 166MHz......
Although when I drop the cpu fsb to 133MHz the DDR RAM appears to run at 400MHz,according to the bios initialisation screen at bootup.
So for now it seems that I can either compromise my CPU speed and run a 2700+ at 2100+ to get the most from the RAM......or I can run the CPU at 2700+ and settle for slower memory speed.
Add to all this the fact that at the moment PC400 DDR RAM is no faster...sometimes even slower than PC2700,you can drive yourself crazy.
      A ;(

  • Still Cannot do anything on this board(KT4 Ultra)

So in the beginning I bought this new system, here are the specs:
    (Original Specs)
    MB: MSI KT4 Ultra
    CPU: AMD XP 2200+
    RAM1: 512MB PC2700
    RAM2: 512MB PC2700
    AGP: Nvidia Ti4200 128MB
    PCI(All):Empty
    IDE1: 80gig Western Digital
    IDE2: literon 16x DVD
    PSU: 300W
    (cant think of anything else)
So when i got it home, I could not Install Win2K AT ALL, No matter what i did or tried still would not install.
So after awhile i said forget it and install WinXP, worked installed fine(or so i thought).  I installed SP1, d/l all the updates. d/l VIA 4.45 and for the graphics card i d.l the latest certified drivers. Well i thought i was in the clear, but then i started getting errors or problems while trying to run games or 3D apps(cinema4D). So i went through all the forums and ended up replacing the PSU witha Antec true power 480, and the CPU cooler with a volcano 9. but still nothing but problems so i took it back to my dealer and they deemed the mobo bad or something and gave us a new one.took it home and still Errors, did a fresh install of winxp(win2k could still not install)Still erros everywhere. so i took back to them again. and they claimed this time that the cpu cooler was to big and wasent makeing full contact, and gave us a smaller one(i think a volcano7?) i was like alright that is understandable. got it home did fresh install AND STILL Errors.
I dont know what to do, lets see i cant run 3Dmark2001SE program just quits no error. Quake3 quits,Cinema4D says it has generaded errors and needs to quit. at first PCMark2002 did not work, But i was runnin a test on my harddrives and C: would keep failing, so i looked in one of the logs and said something about memory, so i changed my swap file to D: and boom PCmark2002 went all the way trough its tests, and i could do tests on my c and d without any errors but i still can use 3d apps?
    Any ideas please
    Thanks in advanced
    David

    boy
"......so i took back to them again. and they claimed this time that the cpu cooler was to big and wasent makeing full contact, and gave us a smaller one(i think a volcano7?)....."
    THATS SO NOT TRUE ?
Volcano 9+ was a nice copper base, and it makes great contact with the cpu core
Man i built a simliar PC for a friend:
    MSI KT4-Ultra (bios version 1.3)
    Athlon XP2400+ FSB266 Retail Box
TT Volcano 9+ using box white paste
    Kingston 512 MB PC2700 RAM
    Ati Radeon AIW 7500 AGP4x
    WD 80 GB 7200 RPM
    LG52x24x52x CDRW
    CNET 10/100 NIC
    Windows XP Pro SP1 /Via 4.45
    SP CASE Tower 400watt psu
maybe, it can be your memory, thats my guess
or could be you setting AGP8x?
