KT4 Ultra FISR & DDR400 memory ?

Can someone please help....
   I have a KT4 Ultra, {BIOS v1.1} and an Athlon T`bred 2700+  which I want to run at 166fsb.
The problem is that when I use my PC400 DDR RAM module,[TwinMos} which is on MSI`s supported memory list, the thing will only work at 166fsb ,that is 333MHz not
the 400MHz it`s meant to run at.....does anyone know a way around this ?
Also, according to MSI`s website, the 2700+ should run at 166 with a ratio of 15 ,they say they`ve tried it and it works...well not for me it does`nt...I have to set the ratio to "Auto" in the bios to get it to run,and it does so at 13 according to Fuzzy Logic.
Now my CPU is running at 2.17GHz which is it`s advertised speed...so where do MSI come up with thier 15X166 figures?

Yeah thanks Bas...but I`m happy with the speed of the cpu,its the memory thats underperforming.
The TwinMos PC400 DDR RAM will only run at 333MHz,and not the 400MHz its supposed to run at whilst the fsb of the cpu is set at 166MHz......
Although when I drop the cpu fsb to 133MHz the DDR RAM appears to run at 400MHz,according to the bios initialisation screen at bootup.
So for now it seems that I can either compromise my CPU speed and run a 2700+ at 2100+ to get the most from the RAM......or I can run the CPU at 2700+ and settle for slower memory speed.
Add to all this the fact that at the moment PC400 DDR RAM is no faster...sometimes even slower than PC2700,you can drive yourself crazy.
  A ;(

  • KT4 Ultra FISR and Radeon 9700pro

OK, I upgraded my MB from the k7t266pro to an Kt4 Ultra.  I also upgraded to an AMD xp 2500+ and new DDR 333 ram.  My video card is the ati 9700pro.  This card functioned just fine with my old board as I never crashed.
Since I have upgraded I have not been able to play any 3d games!!  all the games start and are playable for 2-5 mins then it just completely freezes my system.  i cannot even do an end task and have to hit the reset button to restart the PC.
I am running Winxp home edition and am fully patched.  I have also upgraded the bios and installed every new driver from the live update utility.  i have the latest drivers available from ATI as well.
what gives here?  I have searched Google and various other sites and i have run across many many threads with people having identical problems with this board and video card.  my thought is that it is not the video card, as it ran flawlessly on my old MSI board.  i do PC support and system admin for a living and 99% of the time I can resolve PC problems on my own, however, I am at a loss with this one.  I have been a loyal MSI customer as this is the 4th MB i have bought from you guys over the years, but i can't help feeling disappointed right now.  any ideas?  This stinks as I was so looking forward to the upgrade in performance and now i got jack.

    ATI 9700pro
    512 DDR 2700 Ram
    300w PS (AMD approved)
    Maxtor 30bg ata 133

I took the advice of some of you and got a Antec 430w TruePower PS to replace my old one.  Still no good.  I was a little skeptical about the new PS thing since I run a pretty minimal configuration.

    1 Generic Floppy
As you can see, pretty sparse.  I soley use this box as a gaming type PC, so I try and keep the load light.  At this point I think I would like the board replaced.  Like I said, the 9700pro worked like a champ on my k7t266 pro, I doubt it is the new AMD CPU... so that leaves just the memory or the board at this point.  I mean, driver wise I am using the same drivers as those that do not have problems.  I am going to buy some high-end memory to eliminate that issue, but I highly doubt that will make the difference.  I hope I'm wrong though.
Oh, BTW the option to change the AGP slot back to 4x is locked out for some reason.  That kinda pisses me off too.  I mean, at least give me the option to bring it back down to 4x.

  • KT4 ULtra FISR - HD install probs

okay - I have just built my new system -
    Athlon XP 2400+
    MSI KT4 Ultra FISR
    512MB Samsung DDR400 (MSI Approved)
    ATI Radeon 7500
    Hercules Digifire 7.1
    Seadate Barracuda 80GB
    Pioneer DVD-RW 104
    Liteon CD-RW 20x
My problem is - that the HD is new, formatted - when I make the Pioneer the 1st boot device, winXP starts to install - however after it puts the initial set of files onto the HD - it has to restart - and when it does I get this msg:
"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
Please check the windows documentation about hardware......."
I initially tried it with a 120GB Maxtor drive and got the same msg. Nothing is wrong with either drive - because they are both brand new, and properly formatted.
I am not using the RAID option I just want to have two HD's connected to IDE1 as master/slave.
When I go into the BIOS - in the boot options my CD drives and HD shows in the correct order. So if it can see my HD in the BIOS - why can't I boot up and complete the installation?
Do I have to disable something in the BIOS - there is a RIAD controller check just after the BIOS splash screen and then it goes onto say that the no drivers were found - so then it carries on with all the other checks and then stops with the above error message.
Somebody please tell me how I can get it to locate my HD and complete the installation of the OS?
    Thank you

sorry i guess i wasn't that clear - my optical drives are on IDE2 - IDE1 only has my Seagate HD - only when this is up and running will i add the maxtor as a slave to IDE1
so still looking for that solution

    Bye...!
Excuseme for my english I'm Italian and speak so so the language...

Okay, I assume the new 1.4 bios they are working on will address this problem? Or perhaps not? This problem as I see has been discovered last year, yet how many bios updates were released since? None of them remidying this situation.
The KT4 Ultra FISR is a really nice mainboard, but the lack of support and/or broken LAN controller really makes it look bad.
Flashing the bios and clearing the cmos simply wont work. This shouldnt be necessary when the LAN just dissapears on its own without any cause. If it isnt a bios bug, then its clearly a board flaw.
Is that why this problem has been covered up quite well? If there hasent been a bios fix, then i would guess that it is a flaw that is still not being publicly made by MSI themselves.
If theres a known fault with a product, i expect to be known about it. This problem has shown up enough to be a known flaw.
No, checking the winblows "device manager/tackler" wont show it, clearing the cmos wont show it, flashing the bios 10000 times wont make it show either. The device doesnt even exist on the mainboards pci table, its gone, not there, poof, kapoot, vanished.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR

Hey, I am new to these forums. Thought I would drop by and see if I can get some help with a new mobo I had just purchased.
I just purchased an MSI KT4 Ultra FISR. AMD 3200+ Capatible and allows for 400mhz memory to be placed.
I am going to purchase an AMD XP3200 Barton chip soon and would like to use the new type of memory. Either XP2700 (2x512mb @ 333mhz) or XP3200 (1x512 @400mhz). Ok... now for my question. I have been to MSI homepage and read the specs on this specific motherboard. It states that I can only use 1 stick of XP3200 (400mhz type) memory at 2 channels. Does anyone have this board and ever tried running it with XP3200 (2x512 @ 400mhz) totalling 1Ghz @ 400mhz?
Also will the XP3200+ operate with XP2700 memory running at 333mhz? Dumb question. I know.
Ya... if anyone has any suggestions as what I can do to mod this board feel free to let me know.
Another note... while looking through the product line MSI does not show it is carrying the KT4 Ultra FISR anymore.. Any reason as to why or is it now calld by another name?

its in the archive as via now make a 400a chipset so msi sell the new one now

  • Upgrading to a MSI kt4-ultra FISR board.....

Currently I've got a gigabyte motherboard and I want to upgrade to an: MSI kt4-ultra FISR board. Can I just pull my old board out and install the MSI board with all my old hardware, O/S already on harddrive -  and do a start up, or will I run into errors and problems when I try this? Currently my system looks like this:
    1)  Case: "Xaser SC5000BWII"  400watt mid-tower case
    2)  Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7DXR DDR+Raid
    3)  CPU Chip:   AMD Athon XP 1800 1.6Ghz
    4)  Memory:  512 of  PC2100 DDR266 Memory
    5)  AudioCard:  Creative SoundBlaster Audigy MP3 card
    6)  VideoCard:  ATI RADEON 9000pro, 128 DDR
    7)  Hard Drive:  Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM ATA-133 "D740X" Mdl:6L080J4
    8) Operating System:  Ms Windows XP Pro
Thanks for the help........ seboyd ?(  :D  8)

A clean install will give you 30 days to reactivate and it only takes a 5 minute call to get the new #s. Pretty simple and much easier than trying to straighten out all the error codes from old O S. I did however move an XP harddrive from a Turbo2 to a KT4 without a new install but they were both MSI boards. A clean install also gets rid of all the junk that accumulates. Just enter bios and make the CD rom 1 st boot . BIGDADDY51 CT. USA  :D  8)  :D

    Hi,
I have the same issues with my KT4 Ultra (pure version).
Running GF4 Ti4400, Athlon XP2400+ etc, 450W power etc. There are quite many posts of similar issues all over the Via Arena forums and some here as well. KT4 Ultra's and KT4V's seem to be the boards affected.
Installing the Via USB Filter Patch helped with narrowing down the number of crashes and some of the errors.
(note: disable automatic restart from 'Startup and Recovery settings' to see the driver that crashes)
Link to Via Arena FTP site
I had a K7T266pro2-RU board before this which worked 100% stable. I've tested all my components which are fine. Tested different power supplies, memory. Still, continuous random errors after many times of reinstalling Win2K by the book and with default bios settings.
Sometimes the setup works fine for a week and then starts to mess around again.
Looks like setting the cpu fsb down to 128 MHz from 133 MHz solves the issues, so try that and report back.
    Also check the filter patch.
I'm personally waiting for the next bios release to fix these issues - if not, I'm showing this board RMA and go to nForce2 chipset.
I also tested the 1.25 beta bios, which gave me lots of crashes during Win2K boot -> flashed back to v1.10 and booting works again.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR "accessories"

I purchased a bare bones KT4 Ultra FISR board from Newegg.com ?(  and wanted to know how I can purchase the special backplate and get info on the 1394 bracket.
Anyone know?  I wrote to MSI but they did  not answer my email.
    Thank you!
    Eric

These brackets were hard to get..... I guess somebody had mentioned it. Please use the forum search function and hunt for the answer. Good luck.
My another suggestion is to get a good PC casing with IEEE1394 ports and USB ports in front. You can make full use of these ports

  • KT4 Ultra FISR and Volcano 9 Cool Mod

I am building a system using the KT4 Ultra FISR and a 2800+.  I am also using the Thermaltake Volcano 9 Coolmod fan which has LEDs on the fan.  My question is this, the board has two sets of Power LED headers, a two pin and a three pin.  The Coolmod is supposed to plug in to the Power LED header.  Is it possible to use the three pin header for the fan and the two pin header for the case?  I don't want to lose the front LED.  I know Thermaltake says don't wire both front panel and Coolmod to the same header, but it doesn't say anything about two different headers.  If someone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.  I hope I made myself clear.    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean to use the two pin JFP1 Power LED for the case and the 3 pin JFP2 for the Volcano mod? I dont think it should be a problem, my LED's are mixed and matched between the two headers.  You could test it with a multimeter to see what the output of one header is while the other is connected to its LED.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR AGP Speed Problem

    Hi all,
I've got a bit of a problem and was wondering if someone can help?
I have bought the KT4 Ultra FISR and am having a problem when trying to use it with my 8x AGP Nvidia ge Force 4 ti 4200 but the bois wont let me change the AGP speed to 8x, it insists that the highest it can go is 4x.  ;(
I have run the newest 3DMark03 and it's showing that my AGP is only 2.0 and not the 3.0 that is meant to be with the board?
I was wondering if this is the problem?
I have double checked with the Graphics Card Manufacturer and they have confirmed that my card is an 8x card and I know that it was running at 8x on my last board.
I have done all of the Auto updates on the MSI motherbaord update utility but there's still no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    - Ricky

    Hi there
Well I have the Inno36 Ti 4200 8x AGP card:
    http://www.ivmm.com/inno3d/geforce4/products_gf4_ti_agp8x_reviews.html
I know it's not the best card on the market but it should still be able to operate at it's advertised speed :P
A couple of the guys here at EA bought the card and theres are working fine on thier boards :(
I am not totally sure of the version number of my bios but does 1.3 ring a bell?
I wont be able to check the version till monday...
Like I said before.. I did notice that 3dmark03 noted that I was using agp 2.0, is that right?
    - Ricky
P.s. Thankyou for taking the time to help me out Its much appreciated.

  • KT4 Ultra - FISR = Bluetooth or not?

I have a KT4 Ultra FISR motherboard.. Do I need anything else to make bluetooth work or not.. I've seen several threads that say this board does not need any antenna because one of the USB headers has it built in.. I've hooked it up to the motherboard as it says.. Yet, even after installing the Bluetooth software from MSI's site it dosen't show up under device manager at all. And it dosen't find my Sony T68i phone either. Am I supposed to have something else, to make this work? Like I said, I have no antenna or card that I got with the mobo, should I have?

At our local shop that sells a lot of msi mobos, the bluetooth mobos have the antenna and module in a seperate box taped to the mobo box. I think that is probably the way they are meant to be sold, I asked and they said that is how they come. I think some retailers may be taking the bluetooth module and antenna box off and selling it seperate from the mobo, I would call and asked the place you bought it from. This seems to be a widespread issue.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR Upgrade

I have the KT4 Ultra-FISR with the Via KT400 chipset.  I just read on Via's site that the KT400a is available and it is a pin to pin replacement to the 400.  My question is, is there a way that MSI can provide the chipset upgrade (cost is not an issue) or will the upgrade of existing boards be available?  Some of the benchmarks for the 400a show a marked improvement over the 400.  Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi,
Sorry, but no, that's not possible.

  • KT4-Ultra FISR no longer supported?

Hey all, I was trying to find the Bios/driver updates/manual for this board, the MSI KT4-Ultra FISR.  Can anyone link me?  I can't seem to find it.
    Thanks.

You will find the KT4 Ultra in the archives section here:- http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=356 The bios, driver and manual links can be found on the left of your screen.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR very slow HD & FWire with XPSP1

    Any suggestions please.
I used to get 35-45MBytes/s sustained copying 1G video files between drives using win2k sp4.
Then I had to go to XP to support the new 200G boot drive.
Now I get 15MBytes/sec copying files and the firewire runs at 7MBytes/s.
SiSandra says 40200 for the 200G, 26000 for raid 0 array (2x80G on promise pci ultra66).
HD Tach shows the 200G drives as 55MB/s down to 45MB/s & 25MB/s for the firewire.
It has to be a problem with winXP.
    Indexing has been turned off.

So yesterday the system stopped dead - wouldn't boot into XP - and all my roms were at home.
So I did a system repair - no gui.
Ran full setup from the rom, got all the way to installing drivers and hang.
Repeat 5 times removing hardware at each step and disabling items in the bios.
Eventually got XP to install with generic PCI video, 1HD, 1 CDROM. No MB
Turned out to be that problematic Broadcom 5702. Had to disable in bios.
And the rom drive crunched my XP disk badly.
    Reinstall everything. What a pain.
Still having trouble with that broadcom adapter chipset...
Anyway with the network disabled in bios the firewire now does 15MBytes/sec sustained and Sisandra says my boot partition rates 37000, better than the 12000 previous..
