KT4 Ultra hi performace bios setting question

When using the hi performance bios setings, my Xp 2400+ shows clocked as 2030 mhz. Everything is clocked to stock speed, so why is there a slight oveclock. Thanks.

Hi,
You may use WCPUID or Fuzzy Logic to check the real CPU speed instead.

  • Excuse me , info about KT4 Ultra temp issue BIOS 1.4

Hi, all, excuse me if I disturb u, but I've not understood compleltely if the low temps recorded by MSI KT4 ULtra sensors with BIOS 1.4 is a problem or is a real reduction of the temperatures offered by the new BIOS.
Thank you very much for your time
    Bye
    Marcello

No, its not enabled by default - and the temp issue is for real - not only reporting with less than 5-8*C, but also reversing the winbond sensors(CPU-SYS). I must tell you that the Cooler XP utility still works no mather if CPU HALT is enabled or not, taking another 5-8*C from your temperatures. Running an AMD Athlon XP Palomino 2100+  almost at 20*C with regular air cooling seems damn' science-fiction and the system with 5 degrees or more than the CPU.
So stick with what u've got, if it's ok and stable. And trust us, we've checked the BIOS, we've checked the temperatures with alternative measurments. We are not that ******

  • KT4 Ultra FISR Updated Bios Still Reboots

I bought a KT4 Ultra last week.  I hooked up everything needed to install my OS (Video and Hard Drive) to install Windows 2000.  It took me a while to get a good install because it would crash in the middle of Win2K setup.  After reading the posts on the subject I upgraded the Bios to 1.3.  I no longer had problems with installing software of transferring large files between CD and HD.  Although a bit slow, it worked.
But now I have another problem.   The computer reboots when the CPU is being used hard, like running 3D intensive software.  For example I have 3D studio rendering and then I try to open Internet explorer and computer will reboot.
I check my PSU by measuring the voltage (with DMM) on the 5 volt line and causing a reboot during CPU intensive activities.  I even unplugged an extra HD and ran my FSB at 100 mhz.  I did not notice any voltage drop and the computer still rebooted.
I need to decide to if I want to return the MB, before I go out a buy a PSU and find out it did not fix my problem.
    Any ideas.

    Video Card is a
    Video: Compro GeForce3 Ti 200
    HD: Maxtor 30GB 7200 RPM ATA100
Power Supply (don't know brand name)
300W, with 150W for both the 3.3 and 5 Volts (at
    least according to the label)
The computer also rebooted while trying to run
Nero to copy a CD image to hard drive.  So I don't think its video card related.  I had this video card in my ABIT KT7 with no problems.

  • MSI KT4 ULTRA + 1.40 BIOS & Overclocking

I am wondering what kind of Overclocks are people getting with the new 1.40 BIOS? I haven't broken mine in yet so I'm wondering what to expect.

I'm not a heavy overclocker, but it worked just fine for me :D

  • So, has anyone had better luck with the kt4 ultra's new bios?

ive seen so many posts on here about probs with the board (mines memory related) wondering if anyone has any positive notes on the new bios, or if they are still having problems... i had to box mine back up and install the trusty old FIC board, cause i COULD NOT get the msi to work. VERY frustrating to have what seems like a great piece of hardware boxed up for bios/other issues. do the msi engineers read this board?????? come on guys.....

    the p/n is pp-303XP
thats funny cause my system is working fine now on an older mobo. ive seen many people with similar problems (see the "MSI and a total lack of support" thread) and i really dont think its the power supply. i will reiterate:
the system runs fine with only 256 megs installed (pc2400) as soon as i plug in the other stick, wallah, nothing. your saying that the 3.8 volts or whatever it is that the stick of memory consumes, prevents the computer from starting up or even posting? i seriously dont think so. ive even tried all different hardware configs (took the ati card out and replaced it with an old TNT card) and it still wont work.
i dont need to get a bigger power supply.
MSI needs to provide better support, and get off their %$#%$ and at least get a stable bios out. from the looks of the forum, these boards are totally $%^&&.

  • BIOS setting questions

There's to BIOS settings that I have as disabled, but I wanted to check what they are for.
    >Advanced BIOS
    APIC ACPI SCI IRQ
    >Freq/Voltage
    Spread spectrum
    Can anyone help please?

yeah like Reilly said the Spread Spectrum leave off until you have a problem and suspect EM interference. Then you can try it on but only at stock speeds.
As for the APIC option I don't know a lot. If you read the manual it says this:
    Quote
This field is used to enable or disable the APIC(Advanced programmable Interrupt Controller). Due to compliance to PC2001 design guide, the system is able to run in APIC mode. Enabling this option will expand available IRQ's resources for the system.
I also know that the OS must support this feature for it to work and WinXP apparently does.
I feel that keeping this enabled(especially during the initial WinXP install) eliminates a lot of problems people have with device conflictions so I ALWAYS keep it enabled.
What I do not know is whether enabling it after XP has been installed is beneficial or not. I think it is but if anyone knows different please advise.
Update: (From Google cache) I think it's the site Danny linked to.
    Quote
...If your single-processor motherboard supports APIC and you are using a Win32 operating system (Windows NT, 2000 and XP), it's recommended that you enable this feature to allow faster and better IRQ handling. If you are using a multiprocessor motherboard, you must enable this feature because it's required for IRQ handling in multiprocessor systems.
However, if you are running Windows 95/98 or a DOS-based operating system on a single-processor motherboard, you must disable this feature. This is because MS-DOS drivers assume they can write directly to the 8259 PIC (APIC did not exist yet in those days!) and its associated IDT entries. Disabling this feature forces the APIC to revert to the legacy 8259 PIC mode...

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) Please help me!

After som reading at MSI homepage i noticed that my motherboard suppurted AMD Athlon 3000+ if i flashed the BIOS.
So i did get a brand new AMD Athlon 3000+, flashed the BIOS to ver 1.4. And I changed the Frequency/Voltage to 166, and i was up and running.....for a while. Every time a start a game like FS 2004 or are working in 3-4 different programs the computer like DW, PS and Illustratoer:
    1. close down one or two programs, or shuts down the game, without any warning.
    2. reboot the computer without any warning.
But if i change the Frequency/Voltage to 133 the system get's stabil.

  • Problem with KT4 Ultra and XP 2700

First excuse my bad english (i'm from Germany)!!
I have a heavy problem with my KT4 Ultra.
    First my system:
    AMD Athlon XP 2700
Mainboard: MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) Bios vers. 1.1
    MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 Mb
    512 Mb DDR Ram Apacer Technology 512 MB 16x(32mx8)DDR-SDRAM PC2700U-2533-700(CL2.5 upto 167MHz)(CL2 upto 133MHz
    Sound : Onboard
    GlobalWIN CAK38 II Kupfer
    Powersupply: Levicom 420W
    Win XP SP1
    Now the problen:
When i turn the FSB in the Bios up to 166MHz
the system crashes on Windows startupscreen!!
I've turned the FSP clock down to 164 MHz and Windows starts. But when i runned 3DMark2001 it crashes back to desktop !!
Then i turned the FSB clock down to 159 MHz and the system runns stabile!!
    Now what i've already tried:
Turned down Ram timings and frequency (same prob.)
    No heatproblem (CPU at 118.f)
Had the same system exapt an XP1800 instead an XP2700 and no problems!!
Called the MSI hotline (Germany) and they told me to type the FSB manually in the Bios (insted of numblock +and -).  ?(
Still the same problem !!  ;(
Has anyone the same problem as i ???
    THX !!

    Hi,
    I would try other ram....
Or start from BIOS default settings and only change CPU-FSB....
    See what happens...

  • KT4 Ultra FISR very slow HD & FWire with XPSP1

    Any suggestions please.
I used to get 35-45MBytes/s sustained copying 1G video files between drives using win2k sp4.
Then I had to go to XP to support the new 200G boot drive.
Now I get 15MBytes/sec copying files and the firewire runs at 7MBytes/s.
SiSandra says 40200 for the 200G, 26000 for raid 0 array (2x80G on promise pci ultra66).
HD Tach shows the 200G drives as 55MB/s down to 45MB/s & 25MB/s for the firewire.
It has to be a problem with winXP.
    Indexing has been turned off.
    Motherboard KT4 ULTRA FISR 6590
    -Bios 1.4
    -CPU AMD XP2800 (1.8GHz)
    -Kingston PC2700 2x 512MB
    - GeForce FX5600 (8xAGP)
    -Hard Drives: all seagate - IDE 0 200G, 200G, IDE 2 nil, IDE 3 (sata) 120G, 80G
IDE 1 DVD Writer & CD ROM,
    Promise PCI ULTRA66 Raid 2x 80G
    External Firewire 200G & 80G seagates
    WIN XP SP1

So yesterday the system stopped dead - wouldn't boot into XP - and all my roms were at home.
So I did a system repair - no gui.
Ran full setup from the rom, got all the way to installing drivers and hang.
Repeat 5 times removing hardware at each step and disabling items in the bios.
Eventually got XP to install with generic PCI video, 1HD, 1 CDROM. No MB
Turned out to be that problematic Broadcom 5702. Had to disable in bios.
And the rom drive crunched my XP disk badly.
    Reinstall everything. What a pain.
Still having trouble with that broadcom adapter chipset...
Anyway with the network disabled in bios the firewire now does 15MBytes/sec sustained and Sisandra says my boot partition rates 37000, better than the 12000 previous..

Does the kt4 ultra HAVE to have the "certified" ddr400 ram for it to work, or work faster?
Is the highest cpu possible a xp 2700+ to fit into the kt4 ultra?
i want to know, because iam builing a puter and i was going to get a 2500+, but if it only supports up to 2700+ i might as well get it.

Say I buy a athlon xp 2500+ barton right now, and then a couple years from now i want to upgrade, what if theres a 4000+, could I get that>? or would I have to get a whole new motherboard to upgrade my cpu, because it will only support up to 3000+?
    Lets get real here please!!
Does anyone really know what cpus will be around in two years time. AMD can't even get their timetable sorted for the 64bit processors yet.
If it's a barton 4000 then it will probably run on your KT4 Ultra with a bios upgrade. Hammer CPUs will be on a totally different motherboard, and you can't buy one now!!
How much life do you really expect to get out of a motherboard, technology changes so fast that in two years time you will probably need a different type of memory, hard drive interface and graphics sub system.
The KT400 or Kt400a chipset gives you a good base for the forseeable future, for anything else it going to be a crystal ball job.

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) and Ati Radeon 8500

Hello. First of all excuse me for my english, but I'm italian
After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3 bios I had visualization errors in Windows XP (vertical black lines, font corruptions, ecc), so I decided to downgrade bios to version 1.2. Now MSI released 1.4 bios and I upgraded to this new version with the hope they had solved these problems, but they hadn't. Then I tried to disable AGP Fast Write and now Windows looks fine even if sometimes there are some black screens for few milliseconds during gaming.
There is someone that have my same problems? Any suggestion? I don't want to leave 1.2 bios forever

  • KT4 Ultra - Set fsb through bios or jumpers?

Hello all, I have a kt4 ultra and have been experiencing stability problems these past few months.  I have an athlon xp 2600+ (333mhz) and whenever I set the fsb to 166mhz in the bios and clock it up to the factory speed, my whole computer shuts down.
Initially I thought it was a power issue, but after testing it with 3 good power supplies (good strong amps), I found that it could be another problem.
It is not a heat issue either because I am running that computer open case.  Tested RAM and all seems fine (Crucial ddr).
After staring at the motherboard for a few minutes I noticed there were "fsb jumpers" pins 1-6 near the cpu.  for pins 1-2 and 3 and 4, the table etched on the board says its 166mhz fsb.  So I set it to that, and whenever I set the same fsb settings in the bios multiplied by even 15.0, after reboot it reports 933Mhz.  I was running through the windows setup @this speed fine, but during the HD format it shuts itself off.
Furthermore whenever those fsb jumpers are cleared the default 100mhz fsb kicks in clocking the processor at 1250MHz..upping the fsb to 167 and multiplying by 12.5 doesnt help either--it just shuts down.
Here are the rest of the specs of the system:
    -2 x 256MB Crucial Cas 2.5 DDR
    -Nvidia geforce fx 5200 128MB
    -40GB HD
    -Plextor 16x10x40 Burner
    -DVD-Rom
    -Bios is latest 1.4 release
I have read the FAQ regarding this board and the "wait 15min" procedure when clearing the board's CMOS.  Even after following all that, I still get the same thing.
ahhh this is driving me insane
    -C

"...I have read the FAQ regarding this board and the "wait 15min" procedure when clearing the board's CMOS. Even after following all that, I still get the same thing..." Does it mean there are no changes in Bios after clearing CMOS ? You don't need to wait if you drain all current on Mobo after disconnecting P.Su. from wall socket and taking off battery, by pressing case power button. What is memory speed ? Both memory same make ? Have you tried with only 1 memory ? What are AMPS. actual P.Su. gives to 3.3v. 5v. and 12v. rails ? BTW. If. Mobo has jumpers to set FSB you should use them to set FSB. not Bios's.

    1. KT4 Ultra can support upto the fastest XP2700+, you can get it provided you have money... Yes, FSB matching with memory speed the fastest.
    2. Enermax has extra features such as fan-control adjust.
    3. If it's idle, it's high. to get full load, just run some CPU benchmark and loop it.
    4. Your question sounds like "if I buy lottery today will I win?" No comment on the overclockability.
    5. Have you enabled ALL USB PORTs in the BIOS?

you don't say what kind of cd-rom you have but anyways...
Set each up as a master on their own channel. If you set them up on the same channel, the channel will only run as fast as the slowest device, thus making your hard drive run slower.
