  • KT4 ULTRA FISR SATA Problem

I really need some help here. I have a KT4 Ultra board with SATA Interface and a brand new Seagate Barracuda 120 GB. On to the problem .. when i booted up the computer for the first time, it detected my disc. After that .. i was testing som different settings in the BIOS .. and had to clear the CMOS Now .. it won´t detect the drive at all. It says something about "No drive attached to the FastTrak controller. Bios not installed/loaded" I have installed all drivers and stuff that came with the board but no luck. Is the driver loaded into the BIOS from the beginning or? How do i get the d*amn board to detect it again? I can´t even enter the bios setup (for the SATA controller.. ctrl+f) So .. i can´t really do .
    Help!

It says jumper (Factory only) so i don´t think u are supposed to jumper it. It´s master by default. At least that´s what seagate claims =) Or?

  • KT4 Ultra and SATA

I have a KT4 Ultra that supports SATA Raid and Im looking at getting a new HDD. CAn I run my old PATA HDD with a SATA HDD without it being in raid format or do the disk have to be in a raid format.

    Hey guys, how about this:
MSI KT4 Ultra SR, Win2000, PDC 20376 Promise Serial ATA chip on board.  WD 40gig IDE hd as primary on IDE 1.  Attached a Maxtor 120gig SATA to the Serial ATA 1 connector. While booting did NOT setup an array.  Windows 2000 in Disk Management under Device Manager/Disk Drives has now two folders, one for the WD and one that says SCSI Disk Device.  It's also also recognized under System Information/Components/Storage as SCSI controlled by the Fast Track 376 controller.   Is this a proper way to setup the serial Maxtor as an extra single drive in the system attached to the Serial interface?  Is this even possbile?  My problem is that while the drive is recognized as a SCSI disk device as described above, it is NOT seen under Disk Management as a new unformatted drive with a new letter.  Assuming the above setup is correct, how do I format the drive so Windows can use it?  Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • MSI KT4-ULTRA & WD SATA RAPTOR

I have this KT4-Ultra with Promise SATA controller onboard and until now I did not know if it works well.
Today i've bought the SATA hdd from WesternDigital - the Raptor, and i'm very unsatisfied by the performance.
I've got only 58mbps burst speed and 48mbps medium on HD Tach. And i know that this is not ok. It should be far better I've readed all the reviews.
The drive is conected in a 1+0 Stripe Array. I'm using the latest driver for the controller. I had trouble before with this mainboard [thread] and i think it has something to do with the BIOS.
This i found it to be iritating - the HDD cost a lot more than the mainboard(wich is expensive too). I still think that the mainboard is the problem.

There are no master or slave or cable select settings on SATA drives as there can be only one SATA drive per cable/channel.  The jumpers on the Raptor set the power management mode of the drive on spinup.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR AGP Speed Problem

    Hi all,
I've got a bit of a problem and was wondering if someone can help?
I have bought the KT4 Ultra FISR and am having a problem when trying to use it with my 8x AGP Nvidia ge Force 4 ti 4200 but the bois wont let me change the AGP speed to 8x, it insists that the highest it can go is 4x.  ;(
I have run the newest 3DMark03 and it's showing that my AGP is only 2.0 and not the 3.0 that is meant to be with the board?
I was wondering if this is the problem?
I have double checked with the Graphics Card Manufacturer and they have confirmed that my card is an 8x card and I know that it was running at 8x on my last board.
I have done all of the Auto updates on the MSI motherbaord update utility but there's still no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    - Ricky

    Hi there
Well I have the Inno36 Ti 4200 8x AGP card:
    http://www.ivmm.com/inno3d/geforce4/products_gf4_ti_agp8x_reviews.html
I know it's not the best card on the market but it should still be able to operate at it's advertised speed :P
A couple of the guys here at EA bought the card and theres are working fine on thier boards :(
I am not totally sure of the version number of my bios but does 1.3 ring a bell?
I wont be able to check the version till monday...
Like I said before.. I did notice that 3dmark03 noted that I was using agp 2.0, is that right?
    - Ricky
P.s. Thankyou for taking the time to help me out Its much appreciated.

  • KT4 Ultra APCI power management problems

After I boot I must go into Win98 power management propertys and apply to get any power management functions to work. And then all I can get is monitor blank and hardrive power down. Unit will not go into suspend.
If I use the suspend feature in power down the unit will go into suspend (Susp to ram) but all the fans keep running. When I come out of suspend, the system becomes unstable and quirky.
Can anyone help me get this running the way it should.

A couple of weeks ago I installed quite a few of the
    patches in the recommended list.
Since then, I get the following message repeated
    continually in the console window:
    DPMSSet: Invalid argument
    Power management problems
    I'm runnig solaris 8 on a ultra 5. I looked in the
power.config file and in the startup scripts, but
couldn't find any reference to "DPMSSet." Any ideas on
the cause and solution of the message?
I never use the powerd daemon, so killing the process
    seems to eliminate the messages.

  • Ultra 10 serial connection problem

    Hi guys,
I've got an Ultra 10 that is functional and I can connect to it over the network. However I am trying to connect to Serial Port A and it's not happening.
    I've done the following:
    eeprom output-device=ttya
    eeprom input-device=ttya
and I am using connectors 530-2889-03 on the Ultra 10 side and 530-3100-01 connected to my laptop's serial port, I am not sure if I got the right connectors. I've also changed /etc/remote to point to ttya , but to no avail.

  • KT4-Ultra FSIR Gigabit ethernet problem

    Hello,
just wondering if anyone has had a problem with getting the onboard gigabit ethernet to work? I've had some problems, but I connect to a functioning 10/100 network, so that may be the problem.
    thanks,
    bill

    Hi Gert.
Thanks for the reply. No I don't know what GIGABIT is!?
I thouth 'Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5702 Gigabit Ethernet' was the name of the network card sitting on the motherboard!?
It looks like I'm accessing internet via that network card from Linux (which I am using right now)...
So do you know what I need to do to get the integrated network card work in windows 98. It should've been 'plug n play' but it don't seems to work. This is what I've tried so far (well, at least something like this): 'Control Panel -> Network -> Adapters -> Add -> Broadcom -> Broadcom Gigabit Network... something...'.
    Is this aproach totaly wrong...

  • KT4 Ultra-B BIOS Update problem

Well, I runned Live Update BIOS and found out that I didn't have the newest version. So i downloaded the newest (1.4), and followed the instruction for the installation. After it was installed, every thing seemed okay. Untill I started the PC, then I got an 'error' message:
    CMOS Settings Wrong
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue
I checked the CMOS Settings, nothing I could find was wrong. So everytime I start the PC I have to press F2, or else it won't start, it will just jump back to that message. This is not so much of a problem, but when I have to use the default values from now on it _IS_ a problem, because default FSB is 100MHz, and I loose alot of CPU. I now have AMD Athlon 1500+ 1,35GHz because of that BIOS update. What I really should have is AMD Athlon 2200+ 1,8GHz.
So anyone that could help me with this problem ??

There is a reason why it did not work.
When you buy a board and put a CPU in it, the board may not detect the CPU correctly,
So if your cpu was a 1470Mhz Athlon and the board detected it as 2.2Ghz what would happen?
The CPU would try to run at 2200Mhz and blow up
So manufacturers such as MSI set the CPU FSB to 100Mhz, must modern CPUs run at 166Mhz so by having it at 100Mhz you prevent the board from overclocking the CPU.
Do you see how that is a safety feature?
Now when you flash a BIOS you clear all your settings and the board gets reset to the safety defaults (100Mhz). This also happens when you clear the CMOS using the jumper, thats why it did not work
I assume someone else originally setup the motherboard and CPU settings for you?

  • KT4 Ultra: problem config. raid array IDE3

I owe the MSI 6590 KT4 Ultra BSR mainboard and I have difficulties configurring the RAID array in striping mode, on the IDE3 controller.
The manual describes on page 2-18 it's possible to connect up to 2 hard drives, cdrom, 120mb fd and other devices to the IDE3 controller.
Unfortunately only one of my two MAXTOR D740X-6L (6L080J4) 80gig drives is recognized by the array.
One Maxtor hard drive is jumpered as MASTER and the other is set up as SLAVE.
When I hook up the cable to an ordinary IDE port (eg IDE1) the two drives are properly recognized.
Both drives can be formatted using the regular IDE ports, this means without any cluster errors or other errors so the drives are physically OK.
Before I wrote this post I checked the support section again to make sure I am using the latest BIOS which is 1.1. I also downgraded to 1.0, but that didn't solve my problem either.
Since I work in a computer shop now and then I had the opportunity to check two Maxtor Fireball3 30gig drives on a different MS-6590 RAID board (BIOS 1.1.) and exactly the same problem occurs: the 2nd drive won't be recognized in the ARRAY on IDE3.
Please tell me what to do to make the striping option fully work on my two IDENTICAL Maxtor hard drives since MSI support came up with a standard email, which didn't cheer me up at all. Hopefully this time they will investigate this matter since no doubt more people will experience this.

Thanks for the quick response, though it's not satisfactory for me (of course).
Actually before installing the new KT4 Ultra I owed the KT266 Pro RAID motherboard. It's true this board has two controllers for the RAID option. Nevertheless because after reading the manual of this new board I was convinced I could connect two hard drives on the IDE3-channel. This is the reason I decided to go ahead and to upgrade to this new mainboard.
I guess I have to go back to my employer and fall back again to my KT266 (MS6380).

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR - Drive problems?

    Yesterday I purchased a KT4 Ultra-BSR. I am doing a clean install.
    I have an Athlon XP200+, 2 x 512MB DDR Ram (PC2100).
    On IDE1 I have put 2 x 20GB Western Digital HDs.
On IDE2 I have put a Pioneer DVR-A04 as Master, and a  100GB Western Digital HD as the Slave.
On IDE3 I want a 30GB Western Digital HD as Master, and a 40x Liteon CD-R/W as Slave.
I have installed Windows XP Pro (SP1) from new, and I have installed all of the drivers and utilities from the Drivers CD. My motherboard was shipped with BIOS Version 1.1
When I boot into Windows, I do NOT see the CD-R/W at all.
Also, the only way ro see the HD that's on IDE3 is when it's configured as an array (even though there's only one HD).
I would have preferred to have two HD's on IDE3 but NOT with any form of RAID configuration - is there a way of doing this?
    Many thanks

I did it the simple way: Used Fujitsu-Siemens' Plugfree setup instead of the incredibly buggy MSI drivers. Then it worked perfectly with my PocketLoox and Ericsson T39. The hardware is the same. But still the range stinks (max 20 feet on my system), so I bought a full WLan setup instead.

You've misunderstood my problem.  I have the MSI KT4 Ultra-BSR motherboard which has a bluetooth module which needs to be connected to the motherboard, however, I don't know how to connect it (PHYSICALLY).
Therefore I need someone with the same board to tell me how they did it.

  • Error detecting promise sata controller on kt4 ultra

    Hello,
I've searched the forum and "the rest" of the internet without finding a solution to my problem.
The problem is: Normally when you boot the kt4-ultra you will have a message saying "FastTrack 376(tm) Bios version 1.00.0.18(c)2002-2005 Promise Technology, Inc." and then either No drive attached to FastTrack Controller, The BIOS is not installed or information about your HDD configuration.
In my case sometimes without any reasonable explaination my computer won't detect the promise fasttrak controller AT ALL! It just jumps right over it, as it didn't excists. This is very strange since it's enabled in the BÌOS settings and it could be detected at the next reboot, or in many cases it wont be detected again for several days
As far as I can see it has nothing to do with the harddrives connected to it, as it happens anyway either with a SATA disk connected, IDE disk or no disks at all....
If anyone could help me out with this problem I'll be very gratefull!

I've litary tried every possible combination. The problem remains even with no disks or CD/DVD drives installed on the Fasttrak controller or IDE 1/2. Sometimes the controller is detected, sometimes not.
I should point out that if the controller is detected it always find my HDD who's connected to it and it works fine in Windows. But if it's not detected Windows will find a new hardware and try to install drivers to it, but it won't work cause the hardware is reporting an error and Windows will ofcourse not find a disk....

On the searched I've done Im only finding Linux and compability related problems...
I've had this problem for over 6 months now and I'm getting a BIT tired the shitty controller....
