KT4 Ultra FISR C-Media line-in problem
Hi all.
Recently installed the KT4 Ultra - replaced ecs k7s5a
Very happy with the board so far.
However I cannot hear any sound from the line-in for this sound card. I'm using digital spidif output - from bracket. tv card audio out to sound line-in.
cannot hear the audio even if the mixer line-in is enabled.
The tricky bit is if i record video or use sound recorder it records the line-in audio!
I've never come across this before!
To make sure it wasnt the tv card I plugged in a radio - no line-in sound but if sound record - get sound from the play back of the created file!!!
Anyone know of a fix for this? Is it a dud m/b or component?
Apart from this issue i've been really impressed with the sound output from this M/B.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No optical-out sound on MSI KT4-Ultra!!
Hi, I have recently set up a system based on the MSI KT4-Ultra board. I'm using an Athlon XP 1700+, a Radeon 9000 video card, and I've installed Windows 98.
Although all the drivers and audio applications which MSI provided installed fine, and 2-channel audio from the on-board sound chip works great both for music and for the 3-4 games I've installed so far, I can't seem to get the optical SPDIF port to work! I bought a cable and connected the computer to my Sony MD-player and attempted to copy my CDs onto MD. I go into the MSI control panel and check the box to enable SPDIF-out, removing the speaker cable from the analog line-out just for good measure. When I plug the optical cable into my MD it recognises digital input and prepares for recording. I press record on the MD and play on the computer's CD-player app, but the MD LED shows "no signal". I'm pretty sure both the MD recorder and cable are OK since I've used them to copy CDs from a Kenwood portable CD-player quite recently, so it must be the MB that's giving me problems. Indeed, when I've stopped playback in the CD-player app and went back into the audio control panel, I found that the SPDIF box had been unchecked of its own accord. I've tried this several times, and I've unplugged the S-bracket and reinstalled it all over again just to make sure it was plugged in properly, and I still get the same problem. All audio works fine except optical out! Haven't got a coaxial cable or recorder so I can't check if the coaxial port is equally buggered or if it's just the optical, but I'm getting really annoyed here: this was the one feature I liked best about this board and the only one which isn't working! Any ideas, anyone?dude, i think i can get u ur signal, but currently i can only get silent recordings, u may have better luck.
on the minidisc, there should be a switch or button that will toggle synchronised recording on and off, turning it off should get u a signal, but it wont be in sync wiv the cd, ie u cant trust it to form track gaps.
hope that helps, done flame me if it dont, if i manage to get substance to my recording, i will send u the info just in case.

KT4 Ultra FISR Updated Bios Still Reboots
I bought a KT4 Ultra last week. I hooked up everything needed to install my OS (Video and Hard Drive) to install Windows 2000. It took me a while to get a good install because it would crash in the middle of Win2K setup. After reading the posts on the subject I upgraded the Bios to 1.3. I no longer had problems with installing software of transferring large files between CD and HD. Although a bit slow, it worked.
But now I have another problem. The computer reboots when the CPU is being used hard, like running 3D intensive software. For example I have 3D studio rendering and then I try to open Internet explorer and computer will reboot.
I check my PSU by measuring the voltage (with DMM) on the 5 volt line and causing a reboot during CPU intensive activities. I even unplugged an extra HD and ran my FSB at 100 mhz. I did not notice any voltage drop and the computer still rebooted.
I need to decide to if I want to return the MB, before I go out a buy a PSU and find out it did not fix my problem.
Any ideas.Video Card is a
Video: Compro GeForce3 Ti 200
HD: Maxtor 30GB 7200 RPM ATA100
Power Supply (don't know brand name)
300W, with 150W for both the 3.3 and 5 Volts (at
least according to the label)
The computer also rebooted while trying to run
Nero to copy a CD image to hard drive. So I don't think its video card related. I had this video card in my ABIT KT7 with no problems.

KT4 Ultra MS-6590 - Win XP Home boots with 2GB DDR333 installed but not 3GB
Spec...
KT4 Ultra MS-6590
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (FSB set to 166MHz in BIOS)
BIOS MS-6590v1.4
Win XP Home 2002, SP3
Problem...
Previously, had 768MB RAM installed, and XP strangely identified CPU as a 2200+.
Recently upgraded the RAM to 3GB DDR333 (3 sticks of 1GB 184-pin unbuff DIMM 128MX64 DDR PC2700), and changed BIOS settings for CPU and DRAM.
In the DOS boot screen, Win XP progress indicator fills completely from left to right, then stops with a half-blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
Removed 1GB stick and Win XP successfully loaded, also now recognising the Athlon XP 3000+, and running a heck of a lot faster.
Tried adding the /3GB switch to the boot.ini file, which didn't do anything, and after reading more forum advice, guessed this might be irrelevant. I don't think this is a 4GT and PAE issue, as I'm not trying to install above 4GB (if I've correctly understood).
Also, forum advice (various sites) conflicts on whether Win XP 32-bit is limited to 2GB or 4GB, and I can't find any workarounds for my current setup.
Any ideas?Another test I've done is to enable boot logging with Win XP. This appends command lines to the file 'ntbtlog' in the windows directory, which mainly shows drivers being loaded as Win XP is launched. The log is normally date and time-stamped for every boot-logging session.
When all 3 sticks are installed, I cold boot, then press F8 and select 'enable boot logging' from the options menu. This is what appears on the screen as the system, attempts to load Win XP.
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\hal.dll
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\KDCOM.DLL
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\BOOTVID.dll
Loaded driver ACPI.sys
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\WMILIB.SYS
Loaded driver pci.sys
Loaded driver isapnp.sys
Loaded driver viaide.sys
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\PCIIDEX.SYS
Loaded driver MountMgr.sys
Loaded driver ftdisk.sys
Loaded driver PartMgr.sys
Loaded driver VolSnap.sys
Loaded driver atapi.sys
Loaded driver disk.sys
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS
Loaded driver fltmgr.sys
Loaded driver sr.sys
Loaded driver PxHelp20.sys
Loaded driver KSecDD.sys
Loaded driver Ntfs.sys
Loaded driver NDIS.sys
Loaded driver Mup.sys
Loaded driver BTHidMgr.sys
Then the process freezes and a solid white block appears in the top-left of the screen, with the top-right corner of the block blinking.
At this point, I turn off the PC using the main power switch, then remove the 3rd memory stick. After booting up again, with only 2 sticks installed, opening the text file 'ntbtlog' reveals that this boot event wasn't logged.
So, I reboot Win XP with only the 2 sticks installed, and select 'enable boot logging'. This time, the above list of loaded drivers is shown in the text file, plus a whole lot more. The potentially interesting observation is the next in the list after "Loaded driver BTHidMgr.sys" which is "Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\amdk7.sys".
'amdk7.sys' is a driver file which seems to come with one of the Win XP Service Packs, and which "is necessary to enable Windows XP support for AMD PowerNow! technology on computers that use a mobile Athlon 4 or mobile Duron processor." http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306458
Various other posts refer to it in relation to AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Mobile, whereas mine is a 3000+ in a desktop. Also, if 'amdk7.sys' isn't available, then Win XP will load the generic driver 'processr.sys'. In fact, my 'ntbtlog' includes the entry "Did not load driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\processr.sys" which would make sense.
However, my curiosity is that with the 3 sticks installed, Win XP fails to continue loading when reaching 'amdk7.sys' in the driver list.
Another test I did was to change the power management settings in the BIOS.
"IPCA Function: This item is to activate the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power
Management Interface) function. If your operating system is ACPI-aware, such
as Windows 98SE/2000/ME, select Yes. Available options: Yes, No."
This was normally set to Yes. When I set it to No and rebooted with 3 sticks installed, instead of a half-blinking white block (as described above), the screen went black and then the system rebooted itself...
The plot thickens!...
Maybe there's a clear explanation for this - however, I'm wary of doing something to the 'amdk7.sys' driver file (whether removing or disabling it somehow) in case it prevents Win XP from launching with just my 2 sticks installed. I'd guess there are precautions, but need further info on whether this is relevant, and what the implications might be. -
I have a Kt4 Ultra and when I'm gaming on line I get a beep ever once in awhile. I get out of the game to check if it's getting hot and the temp is around 46 - 47 deg. It doesn't cause a problem with the game( slow down or lock up) but I don't know the cause and I don't want it to get worse. Any ideas?

Kt4 ultra (5.1 sound?)
Hi!
I have a kt4 ultra-bsr, cmi 8738.
Latest drivers from the site (also tried with the ones from http://www.cmedia.com.tw/ and windows update).
Hercules XPS 510 (5.1 speakers).
front left/front right: on the mainboard
surround left/right: on the s-bracket
center/subwoofer: on the s-bracket.
1. When I use the demo program, all speakers work ok.
2. When I play a mp3 in winamp (direct sound), no sound comes from the center speaker.
3. When I play a wma file in winamp (diret sound), sound comes only from the front speakers & the subwoofer.
4. If I have something on the line-in (ie walkman, tv tuner), sound is heared only from the front speakers & subwoofer.
I saw that the subwoofer from this speakers plays the low frequencies even if i use the front speakers connection only. So i presume that in case 2 the sound card outputs the signal only on the front and rear speakers, and in case 3 and 4 only the front speakers.
What I want:
in every case (mp3 / line-in / wma): front left and front right to be 'duplicated' to rear left/ rear right, and maybe front left&right combined into the center speaker. Or something like that.
But I also want true 5.1 when I play games or a DVD (i don't have a DVD player so I didn't tried that yet), so connecting all the jacks to the line-in (with a splitter) it's not a solution.
Thank you for reading this, and please excuse my bad english. The center speaker will work only with files made for 5.1 sound system, for example DVD movies. You will have to set you DVD software to 5.1 speakers.
For regular files (mp3s), you might need to find a player and/or plugins that will support center speaker, but that is an artificial solution. I know there are plugins for Windows Media Player 9 that will do that. -
Hey, I am new to these forums. Thought I would drop by and see if I can get some help with a new mobo I had just purchased.
I just purchased an MSI KT4 Ultra FISR. AMD 3200+ Capatible and allows for 400mhz memory to be placed.
I am going to purchase an AMD XP3200 Barton chip soon and would like to use the new type of memory. Either XP2700 (2x512mb @ 333mhz) or XP3200 (1x512 @400mhz). Ok... now for my question. I have been to MSI homepage and read the specs on this specific motherboard. It states that I can only use 1 stick of XP3200 (400mhz type) memory at 2 channels. Does anyone have this board and ever tried running it with XP3200 (2x512 @ 400mhz) totalling 1Ghz @ 400mhz?
Also will the XP3200+ operate with XP2700 memory running at 333mhz? Dumb question. I know.
Ya... if anyone has any suggestions as what I can do to mod this board feel free to let me know.
Another note... while looking through the product line MSI does not show it is carrying the KT4 Ultra FISR anymore.. Any reason as to why or is it now calld by another name?http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_list.php?kind=1&CHIP=4&NAME=Socket%20A
its in the archive as via now make a 400a chipset so msi sell the new one now

KT4 Ultra - 4 leds in RED (Urgent)
I have a mb KT4 Ultra (MS-6590 v1.x) and cpu 2200+ .
When a turn on the pc all fans are working but the system dont boot, all 4 leds are red.
i just have enable the USB legacy support in BIOS and them save and exit , the pc hangs up , i reset pc and then the the 4 leds are red and dont boot anymore.
I make all i know for fixing but i´m out of ideas i dont know whats happend.
I clear the bios in jumper jbat1 and take out the 3v battery and dosent work.
What happend to the CPU?? Can anyone explain this...
My system:
KT4 Ultra (MS-6590 v1.0)
AMD ATHLON XP 2200+
2x256MB DDR333
G4Ti4200-TD 128mb
WINXP Prof. SP1a
PSU:
Model LC-A300ATX
AC-I/P| 115/230v~ | 8/4A | 60/50 Hz
DC- | +3.3V +5V | +12v -12v | -5v +5VSB
O/P | 20A 30A | 10A 0.8A | 0.5A 2A
+5v & +3.3v COMBINED LOAD 160W
TOTAL OUTPUT IS 300WIt would help if you tell us all you have done to fix problem. But I can say that 10 A. to 12v. line, seems very poor. I would disconnect all USB peripherals to see if PC boots. Also if before enabling USB legacy you connected USB brakets on Mobo's pinheaders, I would disconnect them too.

KT4 Ultra (C-Media Sound System
I recently installed The KT4 Ultra and ran the installation
CD. Everything went perfect. It was immediately up and
running. I have since found that I cannot get a CD to play
out of the rear speakers. I have tried with the S-bracket
and without it with the rear speakers plugged into the Line
In. The software has been set accordingly to 4 speakers in
each case. I know it is not the CD rom or the speakers.
Does anyone have any ideas . ALSO sound comes out of all
4 speakers for mp3's, wav files, midi's that are already
on the hard disk. It is just the playing of cd's.
THANKSIt's upto the software to emulate the rear channels since CD is stereo.
Try winamp 2.8 with the output plugin set to direct sound, works every time. -
Is FSB overclocking above 175 MHz possible with KT4 Ultra?
I would like to squeeze a few extra MHz out of my AMD XP2600+ (without unlocking or other hardmods that cost money if they fail...). I have upped the FSB to 175 successfully, which gives me just above 2200 MHz CPU speed as reported of Motherboard Monitor. But when I go above that, it crashes. Upping the voltage from auto (1.65 on my system) does not seem to help. A guy on an overclocking board suggested that it's because it stops in the AGP/PCI slot since there is no lock of those speeds. Is this possible in any way, or are there any other dirty tricks to use so I can get more speed out of this?
Thanks a lot in advance!thanks!!!yes, it really seems to be a power source issue...
i am using a powerline 450W power source, and the smart doctor utility form asus reported a reading of red marked warning 3.12 volts intead of 3.3 volts, also i tested the 3.3 rails using a multimeter while the system was on and capture drivers under conflict and it reported a 3.25 voltage.....i opened the power source's box and clean its dust, and so, the problem is not happening anymore!!.anyway smart doctors is reporting a 3.15 voltage instead of 3.3 (not in red or under warning message)and the multimeter is reporting 3.27. but everything is working fine: capture and tv out fetures while using the processor as an athlon 2800+ for the first time since i bought the motherboard........
the 5 volts line is reported by the multimeter with 4.95 volts after and before the problem was happening, same with smart doctor.
the hardware i used was:
-two MSI kt4 ultra boards
-kt4A
-an intel motherboard which i don't remember its brand, using dimm pc 133 memory(using anoter power supply)
-asus v8460 for all boards
-same ddr memory for all msi motherboards
since the voltage is still not 3.3 volts reported, even if the entire video card is working fine, and i only cleaned the box, and didn't change anything to its structure, maybe the problem could happen again, i guess i should buy another power source then.
i am very thankful
Andres.
PD: i see that a lot of people is having this kind of problem through the forum and maybe its due to this voltage stuff too....maybe it'd be a good idea if a sticky thread is posted repoting this stuff i believe. (if it hasn't yet of course) -
hi Guys,
This is the first time I have ever done this (removing Kt4 Ultra) so would be very grateful if you could help. I have looked in the manual but there is no help on removing the motherbard and the holes don't seem famiiar. I have tried using a screwdriver but it doesn't seem to release the motherbaord. Any help appreciated.Of course you removed first all cards inserted in slots and CPU/HSF and cables connected to Mobo. If you don't know where are the Mobo's holes you should take a look to the base plate where screws are inserted, so you'll have an exact idea where you'll find screws heads. For this, you have to take off side case cover. If not screws were used to mount Mobo, most possible plastic stand offs were used so you'll see white plastic points you can cut, freeing this way Mobo. Almost all Mobos has 6 holes ( 2 lines of 3 holes or 3 lines of 2 holes, 4 in the squares and 2 in the middle edges of Mobo) Take care when using screwdriver, as is easy to scrach Mobo.

Correct FSB for KT4 ultra 6950
Hi, I have a KT4 Ultra 6950 v1.0 (it has SATA so I think it's the "FISR" version but I don't know, nothing on mobo)
A few months ago, the speed of my PC took a nosedive, and I wonder if somehow the FSB has been reset/mis-set.
It's currently 100Mhz. I ran Fuzzy Logic 4, and it topped out at just 103Mhz.
However, I understand the KT4 should handle 200Mhz.
The memory is all 2700 (166Mhz) (1gb+512mb at the moment, another 1gb on order from crucial)
The CPUs are running at 50 degrees, the HDD at 60 degrees.
I don't know if I should manually set the FSB to 166 in the bios or not, bit scared!
Below is the output from CPU-Z. Sorry if I should have cut bits out, I'm not too sure what's important and what's not...
Anyone have any advise as to what the FSB should be set to please? Either to overclock it, or simply to put it to the 'correct' value?
Thanks,
Toby

Thanks for the link and info
Unfortunately I don't know the OPN. It's not being reported by any of the half dozen CPU reporting programs I've tried, and I don't really fancy taking the cooling fan off to find it
However I did find out that my CPU is a Thoroughbred Athlon XP. I still don't know the speed, but the MSI CPU list shows that the FSB should either be 133 or 166
I tried using "Fuzzy Logic 4" to set the FSB to 133, but the PC just instantly rebooted. I could try setting it to 166, or setting it in the bios directly, but now I'm afraid I'll either blow it up, or it won't boot and I'll need to blank the CMOS, which I'd prefer to avoid.
Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated, thanks
Toby
