  • KT4 Ultra (6590) need update of the Promise SATA RAID Controller PDC20376

The last Bios update AMI 1.4 for the KT4 Ultra (6590) have built in the bios version 1.00.0.18 for the PDC20376 (Promise 376).
    I can configure 2 maxtor (6E040T0) sata1 in a raid0 array and it works under WinXP SP3,
but the 2 drives are working in UDMA5 according to the FastBuild Utility when the motherboard specifications talks about 150Mb (SATA1).
It's not an OS problem because the FastBuild Utility at Bios startup show the UDMA5 mode for HDD.
It's not a Maxtor 6E040T0 (SATA1) problem because have no jumper to set.
The Promise support center don't provide support for built in raid controller but the responce was that it's related to a known bios issue of the controller, so i have to update.
For the last Bios version for the S150 TX4 controller look at:
    http://promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=108&category=all&os=100&go=GO
It's impossible to update the bios with the promise tool because the controller is integrated in the motherboard.
I read for example than on the motherboard K7N2 Delta-ILSR the bios version of the Promise 376 controller is 1.00.0.21:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=92756.msg665966#msg665966
I think the only solution is a modding bios, where i have to replace only the Promise controller bios but:
    1) The tool amibcp.exe can't open the A6590VMS.140 AMI bios (renamed .rom), i don't know why!!!
    2) What promise controller bios rom file is good?
Can anyone out there help . . . please ?

This is my results compared to my other UDMA6 HDD on IDE1, HDTach long bench stop with "Read Error" and only quick bench works.
The version of the Controller driver under WinXP-SP3 is 1.0.1.29 and I configured the driver in the PAM Utility with:
"Driver Write Cache" enabled and "Write Back" as cache settings (The 2 Maxtor SATA1 in RAID have 2MB of cache, but i don't know How many cache have the controller!!).
The Burst Speed is too strange!!! quick bench error?
I made it so your image is clickable.

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and kt4 ultra

    Hello
i was curious to know of any problems with the Kt4 ultra motherboard and the Radeon 9800 pro??
my system constantly crashes back to the desktop, or completely locks when i play Command & Conquer Renegade.
there are also some "misdrawn?" walls in the game also,...
i have all the latest drivers for the motherboard and the card,(including the released today catalyst drivers from ati.com)
i have also tried the drivers from driverheaven.net, but same thing happens,...
    this is truly aggreviating...
    some system specs:
    kt4 ultra
    antec 380 true ps
    2500+ barton running at 11.5*173 @ 30c idle, 33c full load
    corsair 2*256 3200LL
built by ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb
ive read where you can increase the agp voltage to try and fix the problem...and i also saw where one guy was just going to buy another motherboard b/c of the issues...
    any help is truly appreciated
    thx

FWIW, in case anybody is reading this thread in future and has problems with this Board and this card, I can report that I have now(at my second attempt) successfully installed a Radeon 9800 Pro on MY kt4 uLTRA motherboard.
As noted above, I purchased a new Antec True Power unit, prior to installing for a 2nd time.   I am not sure whether that was necessary, but it certainly didn't hurt.  The successful installation process was as follows:
    1) Download the latest catalyst drivers from ATI
    2) Set monitor to lowest possible standard  (640 x 480, 16 colours if possible - in my case my digital monitor could not be set lower than 800 x 600)
    3) Uninstall drivers for existing video card
    4) Replace video card
    5) Install ATI drivers
    6) restore settings on monitor to maximum.
At that point, after restarting the computer, I had a CLI.exe error.   After Googling for this problem, I discovered that I needed to download Net 1.1 from Microsoft.  After downloading and installing that additional program, Radeon 9800 Pro is now working perfectly.

  • MSI KT4 Ultra and AMD XP3200+

    Hi,
Is it possible to run an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ on the MSI KT4 Ultra Motherboard?
I know the motherboard supports FSB200/266/333, but will the cpu work if I manually set it to FSB400 in the bios?
    Thanks for you help.

I don't think the cpu is unlocked, it is an original 3200+.
I thought you need an unlocked cpu if you want to overclock the cpu.
I just want to leave the multiplier on auto and set the frequency to 200MHz (its original setting).
The reason I need to know is that I stupidly bought the cpu without checking my motherboard FSB support and I cant return the cpu.
I have not received it yet and wanted to know if it was possible to get my computer up and running even if the KT4 Ultra does not officially support FSB400.
Would there be any harm in trying the cpu in my motherboard.
If anyone has managed to run an AMD XP3200+ cpu on a MSI KT4 Ultra, please let me know.
    Thank You.

  • Kt4 ultra memory problem

Hey guys, hopefully someone here can recommend some help!  I have the kt4 Ultra motherboard and i've had it for about 8 months.  I have an amd 2600+ and up until now i've had 2 256mb 266mhz micron ddr ram chips in it.  I added a 512mb 266mhz crucial memory chip today.  No matter what I do it will never recognize more than 512mb ram.  I can just run the 2 256mbs and it recognizes 512, i can just run the new 512 and it recognizes fine, if i put all 3 in (or the 512 and one 256) it reads 512.  Everything runs ok, no lockups no reboots anything like that, but i'm out 512mb of ram.
I flashed the bios to the newest version but still no help.
I have the bios set to "spd" and i tried playing around with those numbers but it didn't help.
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks in advance!

Yes I am starting to realize that I never should have tried mixing brands.  I attempted what you said and its recognizing the 512 only.  Any suggestions (besides eating the 15% restocking fee and sending the new one back)?

  • KT4 Ultra Problem - Melting and stuff...not good...

Hi folks, I just got an MSI Kt4 Ultra motherboard and plugged all my stuff in and turned it on and this little black component of the board (0.5cm squared roughly) basically melted and was kinda catching fire...
So, I turned it off quickly and took out my netword card, modem (PCI card), the bluetooth option that comes with the board and the S-Bracket thingy that comes with it and then turned it back on and there wasn't any problems.
OK, now, the little black thing that was burning was, from the picture below, the one next to the southbridge black square...to the right of it, just left of those two white circles.
Any ideas? Should I be worried? What could have caused this? Could it have been one of the four components I removed? Do you expect further problems...ie - my computer catching fire?
    Any help would be appreaciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg

I had this exact same problem with my ECS K7S5A board.. my problem was that the voltage for the PSU wasn't set for U.S., it was running the higher voltage, which caused that same small black chip to literally smoke and fry inside my case... left a great smell in there for awhile too. Hope this helps in some way.

  • BG2 probs with KT4 Ultra

    Hello,
While installing Baldur's Gate 2 on my system, I get the following error:
"CRC Error: the file xxxxxxxx.xxx does not match the file in the Setup's .cab file. The medium you are installing from may be defective. Please contact your software vendor."
Underneath I get a prompt with "Abort", "Retry" and "Ignore" buttons. This error appears at several points during the installation process and in reference to several files.
I am running a dual-boot configuration with XP and 98. Under XP, pressing "Retry" makes the hard disk LED light up for a few seconds before displaying the error again. Pressing "Ignore" makes installation continue, until at some point (not always the same) the system reboots itself. Under 98 pressing retry sometimes allows the installation to continue, however it still stops and displays the error message again when it gets to the next problematic file.
I have ruled out the likelyhood that my installation disks are indeed corrupted by trying to install the game on a friend's computer right after the first time I got the error, and it worked fine. I have also installed the game on both of the two different computers I used over the summer (one was running XP, the other 98, both worked fine). I have tried with both the originals and the backup disks and I get the problem both times. Also, the game used to work on my current computer as well, until a severe crash forced me to reinstall Windows. When the error occured, I assumed it was due to a faulty OS installation and therefore reformated and reinstalled Windows yet again, and it still happened!
I'm running an Athlon XP 1700+ (not oc'ed) on an MSI KT4-Ultra motherboard, with 256MB RAM and a Radeon 9000. Windows XP has all the latest updates and all the latest hardware drivers installed, 98 has all the latest hardware drivers but no updates. Micro$oft's knowledgebase claims that the problem is caused by a third-party device driver, and I tend to believe it, as the same game installed from the same disks worked fine on the three other computers I installed it on, as well as on mine the first time round. The only thing in which my current configuration differs from my previous configuration and the configuration I'm running on now is that the first time I installed WIndows on this computer I was NOT using all the very latest drivers as I hadn't been connected to the net yet. Therefore, if it really is a driver, my guess is it would be MSI's motherboard driver.
    My issues are:
    why does this happen?
how do I determine whether it is MSI's driver causing it?
what does this CRC error message thing mean?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Do an EXACT search (quoted) of the error at google - sometimes that pulls up the result (had for me MANY times with install issues)

  • KT4 Ultra reboot before booting

Ok, this is going to be long, but I'm hoping one of the details will give somebody a clue.  I'm going to stick in details I don't think are relevant even.
The components relevent to this story:
    KT4 Ultra Motherboard
    Addtronics 300W power supply
    Athlon XP 2400+ cpu
    Windows XP SP1
2 seagate 120gig SATA drive in a mirrored RAID config
    A cheap off brand UPS.
This machine had been up and running about 9-10 months on the current install.  The machine was ROCK solid.  I ran this machine 24/7 with reboots only for getting rid of adware or stuff like that.  Never did I see a blue screen or any bad behaivor.  And I never even bothered to cycle the power during this time.  Sounds good right?
Well I'm doing some work on the carpeting in my office, so I shut it down and moved the machine to a different room.  Well I got everything plugged in and powered it up, and to my surprise it started doing a chkdsk (the in boot chkdsk) since it wanted to, I let it go.  Well as I watched I could see tons of errors coming as I'm watching this many of the files where clusters were being repaired were in the Windows/system32 directory.  So I'm thinking to myself I'm screwed (which is true), as I see the names of vital system files going by.
So after completion it automatically reboots (chkdsk forced it), so I get to the screen where the login should be, but no press ctrl alt del to begin message but instead I get a box saying a service (lssas i think) specified invalid parameters.  I click ok, and I having nothing but a solid blue screen.  I press ctrl alt del and nothing, so I reboot again.  This time I get the same error, but I also get the ctrl alt del to begin message, and I press, I then enter my login message.  It does stuff for a second and then reboots.
So now I let it reboot again, and during the reboot it powers down.  I was confused by this.  I pressed the power switch, and I could see the power, hd leds blink for a sec and then blink off and the PS doesn't even start.  So I press again a few times and get nothing.  I leave it alone for awhile, come back and it powers up again.  Same error, same login attempt, same power down.
I grab my laptop from the otherroom and plug it in to the same wall socket (directly not through the UPS) that my UPS is plugged into.  At that instant, it goes in to power save mode (too quick to be normal power saving), so I quick unplug it, and plug it into the ups.  As I plug it in, it it comes out of power save and operates normally (that's what I'm working with).  So I'm thinking something is wrong with the power outlet (I will pursue that tomorrow), so I go and grab one of those indoor/outdoor orange heavy duty extension cords and plug everything into a different room, and all seems to be working fine.
So at this point i try my computer again, same thing.  I decide its time to repair the winxp install, so I boot off of the XP cd and load the RAID drivers.  Right at the screen where it says R to repair, something to install, something to exit, I choose repair, and it immediatly powers down.  I did it again, and this time it powers down a second after this screen comes up.
So this is where I am now.  I think I had bad power or something, and I now suspect that the PS or the motherboard might be bad.  But since it really consisently powers down at the same point, im confused as to what the problem is.
    Anybody have help to offer?

It may not be a virus but when you said Lsass
    It may be the PSU.

  • KT4 Ultra & ATI 8500DV

I just built a new system (first time) using a KT4 Ultra motherboard.  It was suggested by a friend who builts alot of computers.  I want to do video capture and burn DVDs so he also suggested the ATI 8500DV.  I read about it and like all the features.
System will not POST with ATI 8500DV.  I bought a cheaper card (Pine 32MB 3D Phantom XP-2800) to get the system up and running while I try to debug the 8500DV.  I have updated the AMI BIOS to 1.3.  I also reduced the AGP to 2x.  My FSB is set at 100.
    Any suggestions on
HOW TO GET THE 8500DV WORKING?
I took the 8500DV card to a shop in town where I bought the Pine AGP card.  He checked it on another motherboard with no problems.

I'm having problems as well with my aiw Radeon 8500dv on the KT4 ultra. I have everything updated except the bios Currently running v1.2. I can't seem to make a bootdisk that'll give me access to the C: drive so I can't update to 1.3 (got 1.2 through live update, and it created the bootdisk for me, don't understand why 1.3 doesn't showup there).
Originally I had problems with graphics not rendering properly in Dark Age of Camelot, other characters warping around or ghosting and world objects not loading, I've fixed that for the most part by getting help on with what everything in my bios should be set to. However, I'm also having trouble with DVD playback not working properly, I get constant artifacting on anything that moves.

  • KT4 ultra Agp 3.0 slots compliance with agp 2.0 graphics cards

What i want to know is what its compliance is like with graphics cards that are agp 2.0 (2x 4x). ive heard different views from web pages some that agp 3.0 is fully backward compliant with 2.0 and others the opposite, whats the score with the KT4 Ultra board, what cards do people know it works fine with. Im looking in the range of GF4 Ti 4200 - 4600. Any info, help or reccomendations on good cards would be appreciated

  • Pb ? MSI KT4 Ultra

    Hello,
I own a msi kt4 ultra motherboard, 512 Mo Ram Twinmos PC3200 and an athlon xp1700+@2012 MHz (175*11.5)
One day, I managed to boot at 194*10.5 but now, it is very instable with any fsb > 180. Where is the pb ? Is it due to the PCI or the AGP ? (because the coef is still 1/5 nd not 1/6 ?)
Is it very impossible to succesfully boot at 200MHz with a KT4 Ultra ?
    Other  question :
I manage to boot with my ram at cas 2-3-2-6-2Ways but not 2-2-3 or 2-2-2
It is very strange that I can put the RAS precharge at 2 clocks but not the RAS to CAS
    Couls anyone help me ?
(sorry for my english , I'm french...)

but its very doutfull the board would run at it
it only has 1/5 divider so at 200 fsb agp would be at 80 not 66 and pci at 40 not 33

  • New Bios for the KT4 Ultra bfisr mobo

    Hello all!
This is the first post for me in this forum, and i want to ask you guys if they fixed the new 1.4 bios and temp reading for the KT4 ultra motherboard?
Currently i am running bios 1.3 but like to stay uppdated hardware wise.
Would you guys recommend flashing to this new bios?
I used the LiveUpdate 2 utility last time and it worked flawlessly.
Hows the overclocking options in the new 1.4 bios?
Do Msi mess with the ram timings from bios to bios like my old abit mobo did?had to put slower timings from every uppgrade of bios with that board...does msi do the same thing?I wanna be able to run cas2 etc as i do atm.
    Well that was it basicly.
All answers will be higly preciated.
    TIA.

    Hi,
Nope, the temp reading problem isn't fixed yet.
As it's still there in version 1.5B1.
    MSI is investigating this.
As for HD speed, I have not seen a fix so far.
So if your system is stable at BIOS 1.3, stay with it.
As BIOS'ses are NOT updates but bug-fixes.
They only update they do is giving support for newer CPU's if needed.
Best not flash if you don't have problems.
