KT4 Ultra MS-6590 and XP-Install problems

hi,
yesterday i got my KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) motherboard with XP2700+ and 1x512MB PC333.
I tried to installed on my 80GB HDD (samsung) windows XP Pro.
But i cant. i get often an error when the first files are copied (after CD-boot): " File xxxxx is damaged. istall is stopped"
or i get a blue screen IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
i deactiveted in Bios EVERYTHING what has to do with caching.
then install runs (i must wait many houres  :O ) and after the final reboot i had the welcome screen and after a few minutes a get the system beep and a reboot.
why?
why can i not install my XP like other people..
what is the problem?
i dont made a bios update yet.
Please help... THANKS

Thank you for you help
i searched on the german MSI Homepage http://www.msi-computer.de for the BIOS update (i am german   ) and i only find version 1.2.
should it work with this version? or is the bug fixed only in 1.3?
where can i download version 1.3 (compatible with german boards too or is there no different?)
i have a award bios and on the official HP seems that there are only AMI Bios.
Version 1.2 (AMI)

Hello. First of all excuse me for my english, but I'm italian
After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3 bios I had visualization errors in Windows XP (vertical black lines, font corruptions, ecc), so I decided to downgrade bios to version 1.2. Now MSI released 1.4 bios and I upgraded to this new version with the hope they had solved these problems, but they hadn't. Then I tried to disable AGP Fast Write and now Windows looks fine even if sometimes there are some black screens for few milliseconds during gaming.
There is someone that have my same problems? Any suggestion? I don't want to leave 1.2 bios forever

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) no display when boots

I recently went out and bought a KT4 Ultra (ms-6590) and when i installed my new ATI radeon 9500 pro i get no display when booting. So i then installed my older Nvidia TNT2 M64 32mb card and i still get no display. my system has not sucessfully booted yet with this board and it is my first time using it. and i thought it might be trying to load from the onboard video but come to find it there is none. What is wrong?

It might be possible it is a bad AGP slot.  Especially if two different cards and no difference.
Is everything else booting?  I mean can you tell if the system is proceeding through POST?
It sounds like you just went to a store and bought this board?  Can you attempt a return and try another?

  • KT4 Ultra MS-6590 - Win XP Home boots with 2GB DDR333 installed but not 3GB

    Spec...
    KT4 Ultra MS-6590
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (FSB set to 166MHz in BIOS)
    BIOS MS-6590v1.4
    Win XP Home 2002, SP3
    Problem...
Previously, had 768MB RAM installed, and XP strangely identified CPU as a 2200+.
Recently upgraded the RAM to 3GB DDR333 (3 sticks of 1GB 184-pin unbuff DIMM 128MX64 DDR PC2700), and changed BIOS settings for CPU and DRAM.
In the DOS boot screen, Win XP progress indicator fills completely from left to right, then stops with a half-blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
Removed 1GB stick and Win XP successfully loaded, also now recognising the Athlon XP 3000+, and running a heck of a lot faster.
Tried adding the /3GB switch to the boot.ini file, which didn't do anything, and after reading more forum advice, guessed this might be irrelevant. I don't think this is a 4GT and PAE issue, as I'm not trying to install above 4GB (if I've correctly understood).
Also, forum advice (various sites) conflicts on whether Win XP 32-bit is limited to 2GB or 4GB, and I can't find any workarounds for my current setup.
    Any ideas?

Another test I've done is to enable boot logging with Win XP. This appends command lines to the file 'ntbtlog' in the windows directory, which mainly shows drivers being loaded as Win XP is launched. The log is normally date and time-stamped for every boot-logging session.
When all 3 sticks are installed, I cold boot, then press F8 and select 'enable boot logging' from the options menu. This is what appears on the screen as the system, attempts to load Win XP.
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\hal.dll
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\KDCOM.DLL
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\BOOTVID.dll
    Loaded driver ACPI.sys
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\WMILIB.SYS
    Loaded driver pci.sys
    Loaded driver isapnp.sys
    Loaded driver viaide.sys
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\PCIIDEX.SYS
    Loaded driver MountMgr.sys
    Loaded driver ftdisk.sys
    Loaded driver PartMgr.sys
    Loaded driver VolSnap.sys
    Loaded driver atapi.sys
    Loaded driver disk.sys
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS
    Loaded driver fltmgr.sys
    Loaded driver sr.sys
    Loaded driver PxHelp20.sys
    Loaded driver KSecDD.sys
    Loaded driver Ntfs.sys
    Loaded driver NDIS.sys
    Loaded driver Mup.sys
    Loaded driver BTHidMgr.sys
Then the process freezes and a solid white block appears in the top-left of the screen, with the top-right corner of the block blinking.
At this point, I turn off the PC using the main power switch, then remove the 3rd memory stick. After booting up again, with only 2 sticks installed, opening the text file 'ntbtlog' reveals that this boot event wasn't logged.
So, I reboot Win XP with only the 2 sticks installed, and select 'enable boot logging'. This time, the above list of loaded drivers is shown in the text file, plus a whole lot more. The potentially interesting observation is the next in the list after "Loaded driver BTHidMgr.sys" which is "Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\amdk7.sys".
'amdk7.sys' is a driver file which seems to come with one of the Win XP Service Packs, and which "is necessary to enable Windows XP support for AMD PowerNow! technology on computers that use a mobile Athlon 4 or mobile Duron processor." http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306458
Various other posts refer to it in relation to AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Mobile, whereas mine is a 3000+ in a desktop. Also, if 'amdk7.sys' isn't available, then Win XP will load the generic driver 'processr.sys'. In fact, my 'ntbtlog' includes the entry "Did not load driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\processr.sys" which would make sense.
However, my curiosity is that with the 3 sticks installed, Win XP fails to continue loading when reaching 'amdk7.sys' in the driver list.
Another test I did was to change the power management settings in the BIOS.
"IPCA Function: This item is to activate the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power
Management Interface) function. If your operating system is ACPI-aware, such
as Windows 98SE/2000/ME, select Yes. Available options: Yes, No."
This was normally set to Yes. When I set it to No and rebooted with 3 sticks installed, instead of a half-blinking white block (as described above), the screen went black and then the system rebooted itself...
    The plot thickens!...
Maybe there's a clear explanation for this - however, I'm wary of doing something to the 'amdk7.sys' driver file (whether removing or disabling it somehow) in case it prevents Win XP from launching with just my 2 sticks installed. I'd guess there are precautions, but need further info on whether this is relevant, and what the implications might be.

    Hi gruberstuber,
It sounds horribly like you're IBM Deskstar may be living up to it's more threatening nickname of DeathStar. These HDDs have a pretty awful history for reliability and from the symptoms you describe, I would be feeling pretty nervous about continuing with it.
Do you have access to another known good HDD at all, preferably from Western Digital or Maxtor? If you do, it would be worth substituting your IBM for one of these and giving that a go. Might work wonders.
It's not as likely, but it's possible that your PSU is rated slightly to small for the Graphics Card you're using. The GF4 4600 is notoriously power hungry and it is possible that this could be drawing your main voltages down to below -5% of the nominal voltage, this can cause you all sorts of weird problems. As a guide, you can't really tell if a PSU is holding up OK under load conditions by checking the voltages when the system is unloaded, all PSU's will give you terrific voltages in that situation.
I would go up to at least a 400W good quality PSU from either Antec or Enermax to be absolutely sure that the GF4 4600 is being catered for.
    All the best,
    Dimal.

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) Please help me!

After som reading at MSI homepage i noticed that my motherboard suppurted AMD Athlon 3000+ if i flashed the BIOS.
So i did get a brand new AMD Athlon 3000+, flashed the BIOS to ver 1.4. And I changed the Frequency/Voltage to 166, and i was up and running.....for a while. Every time a start a game like FS 2004 or are working in 3-4 different programs the computer like DW, PS and Illustratoer:
    1. close down one or two programs, or shuts down the game, without any warning.
    2. reboot the computer without any warning.
But if i change the Frequency/Voltage to 133 the system get's stabil.

  • KT4 ULTRA / Promise Fasttrack TX2 100 RAID problems

I have my decided to retire my old MAXTOR and get 2 WD800JB for my new Promise Fasttrack TX2 100 RAID card. I set the RAID and stuff up everything is working fine but first I realized that my RAID benchmarks are low. I tried different stripe sizes(16/16 - 64/64), drivers and even tried both drives independent on different chanels RAID card.
I was still using old installed OS from my old HDD and I decided to install new OS on RAID 0 array and see how fast it boots up. I installed windows properly no problems but when I restart the system without WinXP CD in the CD drive RAID card did not boot up, I was getting an error message saying "error booting from the previous device" but when I put WinXP CD back in after cd boot screen it boots from RAID drives.
    My RAID System;
    KT4 ULTRA SR
    Promise Fasttrack TX2 100
    2 x WD800JB
here is my question; do you guys know any issues between KT4 ULTRA and Promise TX2 card. If no I'll get another card and see if there is sth wrong with this one.
btw my system is working fine!!!!

1 got the wd drives either jumperless........stand alone master or cable select
on the black end of the ide
2 have you set scsi second to cdrom in bios boot order
3 never have any other hard drives connected in the box when installing raid either

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) USB controller issues?

Okay, here's another for you guys to ponder....
I bought a 256MB flash drive from Walmart a year or so ago, and it works great with every system I've ever pluggged it into, except my KT4 Ultra. No matter which USB port I plug it into, it's extremely slow to respond and never gets beyond Unknown device, with most times not even getting that far. In many cases it just hangs out there from the socket and looks pretty with no effect whatsoever. I eventually gave up fighting with it, figuring it to be a WallyWorld hardware incompatibility issue.
Tonight I got a 2GB flash drive from OfficeMax and was somewhat dismayed to see it had the exact same reaction to the KT4 MB. I have unistalled all the USB devices and controllers and re-installed with the most up to date drivers, and I've made sure that the USB settings in BIOS are all enabled, all to no effect.
I have several other USB devices (Mouse, keyboard, Canon Printer, Dazzle Video Creator, Wingman Formula Racing Wheel, and various external USB harddrives that all work with this system. I have also had friends bring their flashDrives over and theirs plug in and work fine. ANyone know what the heck is the problem with the ones that I buy?
    here they are:
    Walmart SDUFDW-256
OfficeMax SanDisk cruzer micro 2.0GB SDCZ6-2048RB

    Sounds like pin 10 issue

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) very slow boot

i got a strange one here:
i replaced my MSI K7T Turbo2 with a KT4 Ultra. Since i got the new board installed (the KT4 Ultra) the machine needs very long until it reads mbr of the disk. what i exactly mean is, post boot goes with normal speed. all settings (FSB speed, DDR speed, CPU speed) are correct. after post boot, when it should start to load windows from the disk, it takes > 1 minute until the boot screen of windows shows up. after windows could boot, i don't have any problems anymore (speed rocks). i did not have this problem with the K7T Turbo2 board and except memory i still use the same components:
    MSI KT4 Ultra w 1.4 BIOS
    AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (not oc'ed) (~36-43C)
    MSI G4Ti4200-TD(MS-8870)
    Adaptec 39160 64bit dual (in a 32bit slot ;( )
    3*Seagate ST318452LW X15 Ultra160 15K RPM
    1 GB PC-2700 DDR (2x512MB)
    Creative Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
    Compaq NC3123 FastEthernet NIC
    Logitech Mousman (dual optical) USB
    Microsoft Sidewinder USB
the boot delay was not only when booting from the disks, i had the same experience when booting from cdrom: after post boot about 1 min. nothing and then excpected speed.
    any idea?
    thanks sidderz

    thanks for the hints,
at the stage where boot is delayed so bad, HD access has not even been happened. the OS did not even start to load. so i don't believe the OS has anything to do with it. (except msi found a way to load the OS without read access to the drives )
like i said, right after post boot after floppy seek (my boot order: floppy, cdrom, scsi id 0) the machine just stops (for me it looks like bios is waiting for an answer and then times out) with a black monitor (but signal seems to be still there cause the monitor doesn't go to stand-by). first i thought about an IRQ conflict, but i took care to not use pci slots with shared IRQ's. when the computer starts to read from the disks, boot process is fast as expected. but until the system even starts to boot the os from the disks (read access to mbr on disks), more than one minute just nothing happens, not even disk access. i also checked if the computer is just frozen, but this was not the case, at least the keyboard was not frozen (numlock/capslock and reboot with ctrl+alt+del still worked)
    honestly i believe it's a bios issue

  • KT4 Ultra FISR C-Media line-in problem

    Hi all.
Recently installed the KT4 Ultra - replaced ecs k7s5a
Very happy with the board so far.
However I cannot hear any sound from the line-in for this sound card.  I'm using digital spidif output - from bracket.  tv card audio out to sound line-in.
cannot hear the audio even if the mixer line-in is enabled.
The tricky bit is if i record video or use sound recorder it records the line-in audio!
I've never come across this before!
To make sure it wasnt the tv card I plugged in a radio - no line-in sound but if sound record - get sound from the play back of the created file!!!
Anyone know of a fix for this?  Is it a dud m/b or component?
Apart from this issue i've been really impressed with the sound output from this M/B.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Primairy IDE and Windows Install Problems!

Hail all, I have had this issue the last 48 hours for the most part, but it started last monday night..
I orderd all my stuff from newegg.. I got:
    Intel 775 Socket 2.8ghz Prescott
    ECS Mobo (psh model)
    2x 512mb DDR 3200
Western Digital 80gb Hard Drive at 7.2k RPM (my only OEM item)
Chaintech GeForce 6600 GT video card
Jaht ( I think? :p ) Wireless PCI Adapter (can't have wires running in my room)
    Aspire-X Dreamer II Case
    Rosewell DVD/CD-RW combo (very cheap).
Anyways, I hooked it all in and it wouldn't give a signal to my monitor. I found out a small mount was hitting the mobo, and it was probably damaged. I got a new motherboard on Friday (which was all of my paycheck being as young as I am), the grand MSI 915P Combo. Oh, it was so shiny and awesome!
I got a signal to the monitor, and it started up. I put in a floppy for the latest BIOs and it seemed to go right. I put in my WinXP disk, and rebooted. Do do do, it starts to do that 'pre-'load Windows thing. When the little message at the bottom says "Loading Windows Setup". I am thinking "so leet  ".
When, HELLO, my first Blue Screen of Death (before I even installed Windows! I love that). It says check for Virusis (I havn't been on the internet..) and uninstall any new HDs and such. Well, that confuses me. So.. I put in my friend's very very old HD (which has tons of buggies in it BTW) and that loads fine. So I put mine back in, skim through my BIOs and I notice that the HD is the Third Master IDE, and that my CD-ROM slot is considered RAID.
    What the hell?
I am going to install the older set of BIOs for the 915P Combo from July instead of the September ones and hopefully that'll fix it.
Has anyone else had any errors like this? Thanks - Erik

you skiped the part about him buying the msi board.

try switching the jumper on the hard drive make sure its set to master it could be on slave and casuign some problem.  I know for some odd reason when my 1 of my drives is in a differt location i cant boot windows i move it back and its good.

  • AshTray and Bluetooth install problems

Was trying to install some old games on my ideapad S10e and somehow resorted to using AshTray custom resolution app (used with eeepc to help run certain games).. well to cut a long story short.. Dont use this app i was able to play a game (diablo2) but it changed all the default resolutions. In the end there was no way i could go back to the native resolution so i had to opt for first time pressing the F11 Recovery button.. took a little while but it did complete the process with fresh factory settings and rez back to normal. Then after that i check my device manager and it said that the bluetooth device wasnt installed. Strange cos everthing else was installed ok. I downloaded the bluetooth drivers for my S10e and clicked install.. it looked like it installed but for the life of me i still couldnt figure out why bluetooth was still yellow in device manager. Well just as i started writing this i figured it out if anyone else comes upon this problem (noob trap). Basically the BT drivers are "extracted" to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\BTW\54bl03ww and you need to run the setup.exe then it installs properly. I know im a noob but i would of thought it installed automatically like all the other device drivers. Quite impressed by the recovery mode appart from the BT hiccup it worked as good as i would expect.
oh well  Panic over S10e is back to normal

Now the email began to work again:mansurprised:
Still having problems with bluetooth handsfree device: E 75 doesnt even ask passwords when I try to connect bluetooth handsfree and cant establish connection with voice devices. Bluetooth still works fine with my laptop or other phones! Does anyone have solutions?

  • InDesign CS6 uninstall and re-install problems

Okay.  I had a project to work on for a class I'm in and wanted to open Indesign CS6 on my computer but I kept getting crash reports and the program would not open.  So.... I desided to uninstall it and re-install it figuring it is still part of my on-going cloud membership here, but now the program is not listed...so ... how do I get it back???

Hi,  Thanks for this link, but it does not help.  I was a creative cloud
