Kt4 ultra power supply XP2200

Hi. I seem to be getting conflicting info re power supply necessary for my mobo+AMD combo. I have an MSI KT4 Ultra with AMD XP2200 and a PNY GF4 4200 Ti graphics card. The graphics card states a requirement of a 350 watt Power Supply. Reading different notes on this site, it seems that I should aim for anything over 300W min. My new case has a 300W supply giving 180W combined; I also have a 400W supply, but this also states 180W combined. Quoted A-Ratings for the 400W supply are 92W 3.3v, 165W 5v, 180W 12v.
Should I switch the power supplies to cater for the graphics card, or not bother? Or should I look for a better supply altogether?
Please advise, Thanks.
This system is not yet built - and its going to be my first scratch build.

Try a Topower TOP-470P4 if you are concerned with the available power. It is an ATX 12V / P4 supply, which I am using with my PC. (Specs below.)
http://www.topower.com.tw
The documents claim a combined 3.3 & 5 Volt power of 235Watt, which should please you. I run a Leadtek GE Force 4 Ti 4600 with no problems using it.
Extract of specs from site.

I buy my PSUs at http://www.digitgate.com.  They have two that are approved by AMD, a 340W for $24, and a 400W for $36.  Specs on the 340W are:
    3.3V @ 28A
    5V @30A
    12V @15A
    285W max
I've been very happy with those PSUs.  The company is located in El Monte, CA (in the Los Angeles metropolitan area), and they allow local pickup.  Jerry is the sales guy, and Eddie runs the warehouse; feel free to tell them I referred you.  I've been a happy customer of theirs since the 386DX40.

  • KT4-Ultra-BSR Video problem

My PC was running fine. I have the KT4 Ultra BSR with XP2200+. I WAS running a TNT2/Riva 32MB GFX Card, and all was OK. I then bought a new graphics card - a 64MB Triplex Xabre-Pro (AGP 8X). I installed the card, but with it installed, the PC would not even attempt boot.
I took the card out and put my old TNT back in, and the PC worked OK.
I tried the jumper settings on the Triplex card, but it still failed to boot.
NOW the PC won't boot - even with the TNT card in, BUT it will boot WITHOUT a gfx card (although it gives the customary beeps).
What am I doing wrong here?

OK, well it IS a 3.3V and 5V PSU.
I have tried booting withou the NIC installed, and it made no odds.
    I have cleared the CMOS
I didn't remove the TNT drivers, but I don't feel like that's the problem since the machine does not power up.
I have tried a combined 300W 3.3V / 5V PSU that was in the machine before the gold PSU and it doesn't power on with that one in either.
On BOTH PSU's the machine WILL boot without either of my 2 graphics cards in it, but will not boot with either of them (whereas it did at least boot with the TNT before)

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU power supply problem

    Hello !
I am a lucky owner of MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard but have one problem. My power supply Fortron (FSP Group) 300-GT 300W seems to have some kind of incompatibility with this motherboard. In my case, the computer can't be shutted down by software. With BIOS version 2.5 it was impossible to shut it down with button too. With 2.6 it is possible to turn the computer off by button but software shutdown still don't work. PSU is working on ALL other boards I have tested so far normally. Somewhere in discussions (not in this forums) I discovered that also some kind of weird sounds occurs with Fortron supply on this board and that it is incompatible. Have anyone some clues to solve this PSU problem ? I am not able momentally to buy some other kind of PSU because Fortron is the only brand from higher category to obtain, so I would be like to solve this.....
    Thanks for any info !

PSU is powering Athlon XP 1700+ processor, the other big power consumer is GeForce4 Ti 4200 GPU. I am not able read currents for specific voltage outputs, so I am not able to measure whole power consumption. Computer is working normally, it is NOT overclocked (but it is stable overclocked too) and the only problem is PSU shutdown by software (win & linux, both of them has this problem). From BIOS v2.6 it is possible to shutdown the computer by power button. If it is tried by software, computer resets itself and three beeps occurs.

  • Which power supply for GeForce 6800 Ultra ?

As there are special requirements for the power supply and "550W" is often a marketing gag my questions is:
Which particular (and silent) power supply is recommended for GeForce 6800 Ultra cards ?

All those power supplies i suggested will power the 6800ultra with no problems. Tagan 480, OCZ 480 are very quiet. Enermax 465 is moderately quiet. I suggest you do some reading in the forums first or you might get yourself confused. Also note that the 6800ultra is a very very noisy card.

  • 8800 Ultra OC - Symptoms of an unpowered power supply?

I have an 8800 ultra OC and am experiencing some issues.  I am attempting to determine the cause and one of the stick posts says to not under estimate the importance of the power supply.
I upgraded to an Antec trupower trio 650 W thinking that should be sufficient.  However, looking at the specs, it looks like the Amps might not be enough (+3.3@24A,+5V@24A,+12V1@19A,+12V2@19A,+12V3@19A,- [email protected],[email protected] ).
The probelms I am seeing is some textures drop on occasion, leaving big blocks of black.  Other times it is less severe with checkerboarding on certain textures.  It also got to the point where my machine would lock up all together.
I know it is not heat as I have the side of the case removed and a fan blowng directly on the card.  Using Riva Tuner, I never see temps over 75C.
So, could it be the PS not quite putting out enough juice?  The card?  Driver?  Something else?
    Thanks!

Sorry, was in a hurry to post and jumped the gun.

Do you use latest VGA drivers from Nvidia?  Yes, I am running the 163.75 drivers posted on November 6th (nvidia.com)
Where the issue comes?  It is particularly bad in Gears of War.  Halo 2 also expereinces issues.  There is no particular pattern I can see for when it happens.

  • Ultra 40  - Power supply Connector ATX?

Does the power supply on the Ultra 40 use a standard ATX motherboard connector? (Among the three connectors)

The Ultra 40 handbook shows a system board diagram and a left open view image of the system, this shows the power connectors to the system board, you can access this informtion by using your support contract to login to the system handbook.

  • Power supply for MSI 645 Ultra mother board

I need to replace the power supply for a MSI 645 Ultra mother board. I've available a switching power supply Allied model DR-B500E, that doesn't have the -5V output (infact its 20 pin ATX power supply connector has no wire in pin 18).
Can I use this power supply with the MSI 645 Ultra?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, here I am. Sorry for delay but I had some problems with the PC (as NTLDR missing).
However now is ok and I can confirm that it runs ok also with power supply without -5V output.
Thanks a lot for the support and best wishes for Christmas and new year.

  • KT4 Ultra and a PNY GF2 TI 64 meg power problem

    Okay here is my problem...
    I have a KT4 Ultra with athlon 2400+ and 512 of 333mhz 2700 DDR Ram.
I also have a True430 430 watt psu from antec.
I installed the motherboard and proc and everything else fine.  Stick in the PNY geforce 2 TI 64 meg card in.  Plug power cord in and hit the powr button nothing..
I know I have all the power connections hooked up corretly.
So I get a TNT 2 M64 and pop it in and the machine boots up fine and I can do everything normal.. any ideas??!?!

Did the PSU even start and the fan spins? Or it's a totally DEAD machine?
    This could either be
    1. the card is 3.3V/1.5V and the board refuse to run with it.
    2. the card when slotted in has shorted some part of the casing.
We can't do anything if this is an incompatibility issue. My last suggestion would be - change the display card or the motherboard.

  • KT4 Ultra APCI power management problems

After I boot I must go into Win98 power management propertys and apply to get any power management functions to work. And then all I can get is monitor blank and hardrive power down. Unit will not go into suspend.
If I use the suspend feature in power down the unit will go into suspend (Susp to ram) but all the fans keep running. When I come out of suspend, the system becomes unstable and quirky.
Can anyone help me get this running the way it should.

A couple of weeks ago I installed quite a few of the
    patches in the recommended list.
Since then, I get the following message repeated
    continually in the console window:
    DPMSSet: Invalid argument
    Power management problems
    I'm runnig solaris 8 on a ultra 5. I looked in the
power.config file and in the startup scripts, but
couldn't find any reference to "DPMSSet." Any ideas on
the cause and solution of the message?
I never use the powerd daemon, so killing the process
    seems to eliminate the messages.

  • Power Supply Selecton for K8N Neo4 Plat. Ultra

I am looking at 3 PSU's for this MotherBoard and following setup below.
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Ultra Socket 939
    MSI NX6600GT PCIE Video Card
    2- WD Raptors 36 GB
    1- DVD/RW

    1- Floppy Drive
    2- 120mm Case Fans
    2- 80mm Case Fans
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Power supplies in question:
    OCZ45012U 3.3v Rail=28a  5v Rail=45a  12v Rail=26a  INPUT 10/6a
    OCZ52012U 3.3v Rail=28a  5v Rail=45a  12v Rail=26a  INPUT 12/6a
    Rosewill RP550 3.3v Rail=30a  5v Rail=50a  12v Rail=35a
The only difference I can see in the 2 OCZ's, is the INPUT. The 450 OCZ is about a $30.00 cheaper than the 520 OCZ.
Can someone tell me what effect the INPUT amp would make??
Thanks for any and all advice.
Modified by workknot to complete the Post.
    Regards; Pop's

Thanks to all that have responded to this topic. I did some more searching and was able to determine some more facts on both of the OCZ PSU's.
    OCZ45012U  3.3v = 28a  5v = 45a  12v = 26a  Peak Load 60 Sec. 550W   INPUT 10/6a   Price: $89.99
    OCZ52012U  3.3v = 28a  5v = 52a  12v = 28a  Peak Load 60 Sec. 620W   INPUT 12/6a   Price: $108.99
Now I can clearly see that the OCZ52012U is stronger on the +5V rail and the +12V rail. For less than $20.00 in the prices, I have for now decided to go with the OCZ52012U and it looks as though it will suit my needs just fine. The confusion to start with was some information on the NewEgg site that had some specs incorrect. I found the correct specs by looking directly at the power supply stickers on both units.
