KT4 Ultra Promise Raid Problem

Hi,
I recently purchased a KT4 Ultra board to replace a K7T 266 board. After connecting my RAID 0 array to the 40pin IDE RAID controller on the new board, I was surprised to discover that only one hard drive was recognized. I tried every jumper combination, even iterating through ones I knew would be invalid. I switched cables, and I even tried a different hard drive. Since the two Serial ATA connectors naturally only support one drive, I would hope that some errata in the BIOS would not cause the old 40pin connector to only allow one drive. Who knows.. that was my only guess, as I've tried everything I can think of. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeremy

ide 3 acts like a sata channel and will read one drive only
as it says on boards page you need at least one sata drive for raid
you cheapest option is 2x sata convertors
abit make them and sig do as well
i say 2 as i would not have one sata one ide in raid myself
ps this is the nforce forum not via

  • KT4 Ultra - SCSI boot problem

    Hi,
I have installed a Tekram DC390U2W LVD SCSI adapter on my KT4 Ultra. My problem is that I cannot select any of the five connected SCSI disks as a boot device in the BIOS (BBS-n), nor can I select 'Legacy SCSI' as a boot device, they simply don't exist as options in the Boot Sequence menu. I've used this card (and were able to boot) without problem using a MSI KT266 motherboard, so I don't think the problem is the SCSI adapter. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've disabled all motherboard options (Serial ATA Raid/1394/USB 2.0/GBLAN/Audio controllers), remove all PCI cards exept the Tekram card and tried it in all PCI slots without success. Also tried to assign different IRQs to the SCSI card in the BIOS. Tekram support responded that the SCSI card is fully PnP/BBS/PCI 2.1 specification compliant and they're unaware of any KT400 issues. There are issues (and work arounds) with this SCSI card when using it on motherboards with an on-board SCSI controller and older Award BIOS versions, but that's not applicable here.
Anyone out there using this SCSI card and motherboard got this combination to work as intended?

  • KT4 ULTRA / Promise Fasttrack TX2 100 RAID problems

I have my decided to retire my old MAXTOR and get 2 WD800JB for my new Promise Fasttrack TX2 100 RAID card. I set the RAID and stuff up everything is working fine but first I realized that my RAID benchmarks are low. I tried different stripe sizes(16/16 - 64/64), drivers and even tried both drives independent on different chanels RAID card.
I was still using old installed OS from my old HDD and I decided to install new OS on RAID 0 array and see how fast it boots up. I installed windows properly no problems but when I restart the system without WinXP CD in the CD drive RAID card did not boot up, I was getting an error message saying "error booting from the previous device" but when I put WinXP CD back in after cd boot screen it boots from RAID drives.
    My RAID System;
    KT4 ULTRA SR
    Promise Fasttrack TX2 100
    2 x WD800JB
here is my question; do you guys know any issues between KT4 ULTRA and Promise TX2 card. If no I'll get another card and see if there is sth wrong with this one.
btw my system is working fine!!!!

1 got the wd drives either jumperless........stand alone master or cable select
on the black end of the ide
2 have you set scsi second to cdrom in bios boot order
3 never have any other hard drives connected in the box when installing raid either

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR - Drive problems?

    Yesterday I purchased a KT4 Ultra-BSR. I am doing a clean install.
    I have an Athlon XP200+, 2 x 512MB DDR Ram (PC2100).
    On IDE1 I have put 2 x 20GB Western Digital HDs.
On IDE2 I have put a Pioneer DVR-A04 as Master, and a  100GB Western Digital HD as the Slave.
On IDE3 I want a 30GB Western Digital HD as Master, and a 40x Liteon CD-R/W as Slave.
I have installed Windows XP Pro (SP1) from new, and I have installed all of the drivers and utilities from the Drivers CD. My motherboard was shipped with BIOS Version 1.1
When I boot into Windows, I do NOT see the CD-R/W at all.
Also, the only way ro see the HD that's on IDE3 is when it's configured as an array (even though there's only one HD).
I would have preferred to have two HD's on IDE3 but NOT with any form of RAID configuration - is there a way of doing this?
    Many thanks

I did it the simple way: Used Fujitsu-Siemens' Plugfree setup instead of the incredibly buggy MSI drivers. Then it worked perfectly with my PocketLoox and Ericsson T39. The hardware is the same. But still the range stinks (max 20 feet on my system), so I bought a full WLan setup instead.

You've misunderstood my problem.  I have the MSI KT4 Ultra-BSR motherboard which has a bluetooth module which needs to be connected to the motherboard, however, I don't know how to connect it (PHYSICALLY).
Therefore I need someone with the same board to tell me how they did it.

  • Promise RAID problems

    Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone on the list had problems with the Promise RAID.
My system is a 875P Neo. The two SATA drives are Seagate ST2380023AS. The system shas been wrking fone for about a month than troubles started. My system is updated to all the latest patches WinXP and MSI wise as well.
The system keep corrupting itself. When rebooting WinXP goes into a repair mode and run chkdsk. After in installing PAM 4.0 and enabled the logging I see these messages popping up in the event viewer:
    Source: fasttx2k
    event ID: 9
Desc: The device \device\scsi\fasttx2k1 did not respond within the the timeout period.
I had to recover WinXP a few times now and I can't keep working with the system this way and wondering when it is going to corrupt some files what I have not backed up yet.
I can't find any answers on Promise's website or here.
    Any help appreciated,
    --Laszlo--

Thanks for your help. I think my config is more simple than yours. I only have WinXp on this system on the Promise controller. I have the two drives in a stripe configuration, RAID 0 with 2x80GB drives. Same manufacture same BIOS on them.
I am not using the Intel SATA controller. The only device is a CD drive there.
What can I configure on the RAID controller? The only option I saw is for cache. Write Through or Write Back. Mine is set to the default of Write Back.
How could I verify that the drives individualy performing well? Is there any utility from MSI or Promise allow me to do that? What version of the Promise driver are you using and what is your BIOS version? I have the latest available from MSI which is 1.00.1.29 and my system BIOS is 1.9.
    Thanks,

  • KT4-Ultra-BSR Video problem

My PC was running fine. I have the KT4 Ultra BSR with XP2200+. I WAS running a TNT2/Riva 32MB GFX Card, and all was OK. I then bought a new graphics card - a 64MB Triplex Xabre-Pro (AGP 8X). I installed the card, but with it installed, the PC would not even attempt boot.
I took the card out and put my old TNT back in, and the PC worked OK.
I tried the jumper settings on the Triplex card, but it still failed to boot.
NOW the PC won't boot - even with the TNT card in, BUT it will boot WITHOUT a gfx card (although it gives the customary beeps).
What am I doing wrong here?

OK, well it IS a 3.3V and 5V PSU.
I have tried booting withou the NIC installed, and it made no odds.
    I have cleared the CMOS
I didn't remove the TNT drivers, but I don't feel like that's the problem since the machine does not power up.
I have tried a combined 300W 3.3V / 5V PSU that was in the machine before the gold PSU and it doesn't power on with that one in either.
On BOTH PSU's the machine WILL boot without either of my 2 graphics cards in it, but will not boot with either of them (whereas it did at least boot with the TNT before)

  • KT4 ULTRA FISR SATA Problem

I really need some help here. I have a KT4 Ultra board with SATA Interface and a brand new Seagate Barracuda 120 GB. On to the problem .. when i booted up the computer for the first time, it detected my disc. After that .. i was testing som different settings in the BIOS .. and had to clear the CMOS Now .. it won´t detect the drive at all. It says something about "No drive attached to the FastTrak controller. Bios not installed/loaded" I have installed all drivers and stuff that came with the board but no luck. Is the driver loaded into the BIOS from the beginning or? How do i get the d*amn board to detect it again? I can´t even enter the bios setup (for the SATA controller.. ctrl+f) So .. i can´t really do .
    Help!

It says jumper (Factory only) so i don´t think u are supposed to jumper it. It´s master by default. At least that´s what seagate claims =) Or?

  • KT3-Ultra 2-RAID Problems

I have had the KT3-Ultra 2 RAID for a few months now and have had no problems. But last night i went to a LAN Party and when i got back today and hooked up my computer and turn it on it would not boot. Nothing come up on the screen. When i turn it on the 4 lights in the back light 1&2 are red and 3&4 is green. I got it to come on once and it said cmos dump or somthing plesea enter set-up i did and had to reset the time and date and everything and reset and would not come back on blank screen (no singal) I changed the cmos battery still nothing. I took at all cards and hard drives and just put in cpu and RAM and video card and turned it on still nothing. Monitor still says no singal and i check cables and everything they work fine. Anyone have any ideas ??????

Hi sorry to but in! but where on earth are you moderators getting your info for PSU's from!
30A on 3.3V!  I have an Antec case which isn't a cheap peice of crap and that only outputs 20A on 3.3V.
I had a look on the Antec site and even their Truepower 430Watt case only outputs 28A, and this PSU costs over £70.
You never get good PSU's & cases from shop bought machines from highstreet chaines, and they manage to power the mobo and gf4 cards okay?

  • KT4 Ultra crashing/rebooting problems

Hi all, I've been having computer crashing/rebooting problems when I play 3d games since I got this board. It can happen between 1-40 minutes during a game session and when the computer crashes, the screen would garble up and reboot along with the garbled screen until I cold boot it. I thought it was a heat problem at first but the cpu heat displays at between 34C-39C. Also, when I tried switching out the video card with an older one, the computer works fine during gameplay, and my newer video card ran fine on a friend's computer. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?
    System specs are:
    Motherboard: MSI KT4 Ultra
    CPU: AMD AthlonXP 2400
    Power: 300watt
    Ram: PC 2700 333mhz DDR 256MB
Video: Gainward Geforce4 Ti4200 Power Pack Plus! Ultra 650 64MB
    Sound: Onboard
    Thanks

  • KT4-Ultra-Onboard sound problems

I bought my KT4 Ultra in September and I've heard some talk about being defective. Just to start off by saying that for it may be my problem.... Anyways, I'm having problems with my onboard sound. When I play music, my sound kinda stutters. To best describe it, my sound doesnt skip or anything, but every now and then i hear an extra "drum beat" in my music where there shouldn't be. Please post if you know anyhing about it. Thanks.

    Thanks Vatoloco
I know my problem doesnt have anything to do with ripping or the software. All I knowis that the problem is with either my motherboard or something involved indirectly...
Anyways, to help you out, thry using different software and see if that's the problem. If not, try unplugging all your IDE cables and audio cable in ur case and reconnecting for you might have a bad connection. Lastly, check out your cd drive.

  • Another KT4 Ultra + 9700 Pro problem

Having invested nearly 300 quid on a Radeon 9700 PRo  (Powercolor Evil commando 2) I decided to buy a new mobo with 8X AGP.  I opted for the MSI KT4 Ultra, cos I already had a MS-6340 V5.0 it seemed a good/reliable choice. I went ahead and bought a KT4 Ultra. This arrived a couple of weeks ago.
I was awaiting a new CPU/fan (2200+) and new PSU so, I hadnt been able to build my new system up. In the meantime I had been keenly watching the forums re: KT4 /9700 problems.
When i came to put my system together, this is what i found:
    1.  System wouldnt boot up at all.
    -   So I took out the 9700 and put in a GF2, and the machine booted ok.
Installed latest via drivers, C-Media drivers using live update.
    Upgraded Bios to 1.1
    2. Im using a trial version of XP, which had 13 days (IRONIC) before activation was required. When I rebooted after BIOS upgrade, Windows insisted on instant activation of the product key and wouldnt load Arrrrghhhh!
After a re-install of XP I still was left with the same problem. The 9700 wouldnt work at all.
    I checked the bios settings, and changed the FSB from 100 to 166 ( i have 512Mb DDR333 ) - no change.
AGP settings on auto,  128Mb Apperture
I had seen other with problems getting the 8X AGP to work with this mobo, but i cant get anything to work with it!!!
What else can I do?  Is there someting fundamental I have missed?
I am thinking of sending the KT4 Ultra back to the shop and getting a mobo which works with the 9700! Any Ideas ?
BTW the Gcard still works ok on a MAINBOARD K7S5A

    Thanx  maesus
    1.   v1.1
    2.  400w psu  vtec  - Not sure how well known they are!
I bought it from a computer fair from a guy selling ANTECH psu's . He had no Antech left, and suggested that these were good units. Having got it home and run it i believe him. In SANDRA  all voltage levels looked stable and v close to nominal.
    3. MS-6590 arrived on 18th Oct 2002 , so its almost ten days old.
Both items were bought on the net.
RMAing the boards maybe my only option now if i want to stick with th eboards ive got, but do u think i would be better to swap for a different KT4 board? since i believe other models of the KT4 dont have the 9700 problem, or is this not the case?
    thanks again

  • KT4 Ultra USB boot problems

My old floppy crapped out on me a while back so I thought I could use my USB hard drive or my keychain flash drive to boot the system (for BIOS flashes and such)  When I go into the BIOS, I can see my USB HD and Flash drive, but no matter what order I put the boot sequence in, it never boots to either drive.  I've even tried a USB floppy drive and that didn't work either.  If the BIOS sees the USB drive and the drive is bootable, should the system boot to them?

    512 MB Kingston 333 DDR
    128 MB GF4 Ti4600

try setting main three boot options to none
will it go for it from boot up other device

  • KT4 Ultra, PROMISE 20376, and Win XP setup. Stupid question inside.

I'm having some troubles installing WinXP Corp. w/ SP1 on my new machine (KT6 Ultra, XP 2600+, SATA 120GB)
I've downloaded the latest drivers from the msi website and copied them to a floppy disk, but XP setup won't seem to find any RAID controllers from the drivers supplied on the disk.
I've never had this kind of troulbe in the past, and I"m banging my head against the wall trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Does anyone know of and updated Promise 20376 SATA drivers, or anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.
    Ian

Power supply is a A+POWER ATX 450W power supply. It's a higher-end PSU, not one of the chepie PSUs that come with the cases.
Only other hardware that would make a difference is the ATI RADEON 9700 Pro, Samsung PC2700 RAM, and I think that's about it.
Let me know if I left something out.
    Thanks,
    Ian
