KT4 Ultra RAM problems and others

Hi,
just bought KT4 Ultra, with 512MB DDR-RAM 266/2100 CL 2,5 and Athlon XP 2100+, BIOS V1.2.
During boot-up the computer tells me, that I've got 1024 MB RAM although I only have 512MB. Linux says the same and RAM Test Software does too !! I can't install RedHat nor Windows XP, they always crash, prbably due to RAM problem.
I've already tried out all 3 memory slots.
Any suggestion what to do ?
Why does the computer not recognize any device on the 3rd IDE port ( neither IBM Deskstar w/ 40GB, LS 120 Drive, CD-ROM Drive). My BIOS doesn't show ANY options for the 3rd IDE port!
TIA

Is that in the BIOS under: Serial Ata - enabled ? ( I did that !)
Try http://www.memtest86.com
Already did, it always crashes.
Have you tried another RAM?
'Have no other RAM available right now.
And I can't start my computer anymore, since the cpu fan wont work. I plugged the cpu fan into the manboard-fan plug but then the mainboard won't be cooled. That can't work all too long, can it ?

    or i get a blue screen IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    i deactiveted in Bios EVERYTHING what has to do with caching.
    then install runs (i must wait many houres  :O ) and after the final reboot i had the welcome screen and after a few minutes a get the system beep and a reboot.
    why?

    what is the problem?
    i dont made a bios update yet.
    Please help... THANKS

    Thank you for you help
    i searched on the german MSI Homepage http://www.msi-computer.de for the BIOS update (i am german   ) and i only find version 1.2.
    should it work with this version? or is the bug fixed only in 1.3?
    where can i download version 1.3 (compatible with german boards too or is there no different?)

  • Linux and MSI KT4 Ultra : DVD problems

    Hi, I own an MSI KT4 Ultra Pure mobo.  The vt8235 Southbridge is supported in the lastest version of the Linux Kernel, 2.4.20 . After upgrading the kernel all seems to work fine, but when the system try to initialize my hdc (Secondary master of IDE, a DVD reader DV-5800A from NEC) it locks up with the message :
    hdc: device {Busy}
    hdc: drive not ready for command
    ide1: reset success!!
    and start looping with this message.
    What can I do to get work my DVD Reader? With my precedent MoBo it works perfectly
    Thanks
    Bye

    Hmmm that error used to happen with an older kernel and an ALI chipset. If you leave it long enough does it give up trying and continue to boot? The ALI did this eventualy.

  • Kt4 ultra memory problem

    Hey guys, hopefully someone here can recommend some help!  I have the kt4 Ultra motherboard and i've had it for about 8 months.  I have an amd 2600+ and up until now i've had 2 256mb 266mhz micron ddr ram chips in it.  I added a 512mb 266mhz crucial memory chip today.  No matter what I do it will never recognize more than 512mb ram.  I can just run the 2 256mbs and it recognizes 512, i can just run the new 512 and it recognizes fine, if i put all 3 in (or the 512 and one 256) it reads 512.  Everything runs ok, no lockups no reboots anything like that, but i'm out 512mb of ram.
    I flashed the bios to the newest version but still no help.
    I have the bios set to "spd" and i tried playing around with those numbers but it didn't help.
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks in advance!

    Yes I am starting to realize that I never should have tried mixing brands.  I attempted what you said and its recognizing the 512 only.  Any suggestions (besides eating the 15% restocking fee and sending the new one back)?

  • KT4 Ultra Microphone problem

    I have a KT4 Ultra and there appears to be an error with the microphone circuit. The PC2001 standard specifies that the Mic Audio is on the tip , 5v bias on the ring and ground on the sleeve.
    The KT4 however puts the 5v bias with the audio on the tip. It will not therefore power a standard electret mic.
    By moving the centre/subwoofer jumpers J4&5 I can move the audio and 5v to the ring but they are still combined, not separate as they should be.
    Also the the signals are wrong on the front panel audio connector JAUD1. Pin 1 has mic input and power combined (instead of just audio) and pin 3 (which should be mic power) sits at 0v.
    Before I start cutting tracks and adding jumpers to the board to correct the problem has anyone already worked out the best way of fixing this error ?
    Laurie

    Hi,
    A normal electret mic has 3 wires.
    The only thing you need to do is add a capicitor in the audio wire of the micro of about 10 microF.....
    Like this if I'm not mistaken:
    Audio+cap to the tip
    Powerline to the tip as well
    And ground to the shield
    This way it should be powered and work.
    Then again, I'm not sure, but there is no harm in trying.

  • KT4-Ultra IDE Problem

    i've been running a kt4-ulta with barton 2500+ which most of the time runs fine but every now and again the comp doesn't boot "primary master boot fail" so when i go into the bios the hard drive has the name muddled up (instead of "maxtor" it has something like "atxmor") the only way i can seem to fix this is by clearing the cmos but im now getting a bit sick of re-doing all my settings. i was wondering if this is a common fault or my board is f***ed.

  • KT4 Ultra IRQ problem

    Hello Everybody !!
    I have small problem... Two months ago i bought my fantastic KT4 Ultra... :D I'm very happy of that.
    Everything works fine, but my agp PNY Geforce4 Ti 4200 has the sam irq 16 like my integrated C-media 8738MX  sound card.
    The question is:
    Is it bad or not ??? If it is bad, how can I change the IRQ for my Geforce card???? Becauce it is impossible to change IRQ in Windows XP. I know that there is possibility to change IRQ in BIOS, but I dont know what PCI slot is shared with AGP.
    I will be very grateful for any help.

  • MSI 745 Ultra RAM Problem!!!

    Hello,
    I currently have a MSI 745 Ultra Motherboard with the latest installed firmware.
    Ok here is my problem.
    I bought 2 sticks of ram from http://www.crucial.com/uk, the memory was 512MB 333Mhz.  I instantly started getting errors within windows, something like "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA", the error occurred totally at random, the computer can be running for 5 mins or 5 hours before the error occurs and I can be doing anything from playing a game or browsing the internet.
    First thing I did was run memtest to see if there was a fault with the memory, It found no errors at all.
    Second thing I tried was to reinstall windows, This didnt solve the error ethier.
    Third thing I tried was to only use one memory module, This is the odd thing, Both memory modules work fine on there own with no errors at all.
    Can you please help?

  • KT4 Ultra RAm settings?

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded my system to a KT4 ultra, athlon 2200+XP, 512MB Crucial 2100 DDRAM and an MSI GF4 Ti4600.
    Now its running ok, but I think its running a tad under par. Its benching about 10900 on 3DMark 2001. Which aint the best.
    I was wondering about changing the RAM settings in BIOS. Would they have much of effect?
    Also what about flashing the BIOS, with version 1.1? I'm very wary about doing that because the last couple of times I flashed a bios it screwed the motherboard up royally. Is it worth the risk?
    Ta

    Hi,
    You may try "Load High Performance Default" in the BIOS. If it works, good, you should get few extra marks by some margin. If it caused instability to the system, don't force it, revert to BIOS Setup Default.
    The effect of those RAM settings can only be seen by benchmarks. Normal usage, you can hardly feel any difference.
    For BIOS, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Most BIOS updates do not meant to improve performance, but for bug fix and to support new hardware. Read the BIOS update info you'll know what has been fixed/updated.

    Hello. First of all excuse me for my english, but I'm italian
    After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3 bios I had visualization errors in Windows XP (vertical black lines, font corruptions, ecc), so I decided to downgrade bios to version 1.2. Now MSI released 1.4 bios and I upgraded to this new version with the hope they had solved these problems, but they hadn't. Then I tried to disable AGP Fast Write and now Windows looks fine even if sometimes there are some black screens for few milliseconds during gaming.
    There is someone that have my same problems? Any suggestion? I don't want to leave 1.2 bios forever

  • Touchpad problems ((and other Windows 10 issues)

    I upgraded to Windows 10 pretty smoothly, but I'm experieiincing the same problems as others when it comes to using tablet mode etc. My biggest frustration though is that the touchpad no longer consistently supports two-finger scrolling, which is sooo frustrating. Also, edge-swipe gestures to bring up things like the app-switcher and charms bar (is it still called that?) don't work either. I've updated to the latest drivers (all of the ones that Lenovo has at ths point) and that doesn't seem to fix any problems. Anyone know how to solve the touchpad issues?  Also, seriously disapponted with the Lenovo support on these issues. The Yoga went from being one of my favorite laptops to being one of my least favorite with this OS "upgrade" and next time, I'll probably get a computer from Dell.

    Hi, I too was experiencing simlar frustrations on my Flex 2-15" which uses a similar touchpad, the movement would even stop all together for about 15-20 secs, extremely frustrating!! Since my wireless mouse would work just fine I knew it had to be an issue with the drivers.  So the updated driver version for win 10 min my case is going from v17(win8) to v19+(win10). I noticed that the Device Manager driver was showing that new version but the Synaptics control panel was reading that the driver was still 17 which I could see might cause issues for the hardware input to be read properly.  Here is how I fixed it:  1) If you haven't already, download the windows 10 driver for your specific computer/ trackpad from this site.  2) Go to your device manager cpl and expand the pointer mouse objects and uninstall all of the drivers but DO NOT reboot immediately. 3) Goto the Programs and Features cpl and uninstall the Synaptics program (or ELAN / Alps depending on your stock controller app) 4) Reboot when prompted. 5) Run the download in step one and install the driver and Synaptics app when prompted     NOTE: In my case the Synaptics install would not open on its own and had to open it's setup.exe manually          <<C: drivers\Touchpad Driver(Elan, Synaptics, ALPS)\2al301af\Synaptics>> If you still have the issue, try running through the steps while disconnected from the internet. It might be auto-updating with the wrong data. I hope this helps those afflicted my this annyoing issue.~gC

  • KT4 Ultra, PROMISE 20376, and Win XP setup. Stupid question inside.

    I'm having some troubles installing WinXP Corp. w/ SP1 on my new machine (KT6 Ultra, XP 2600+, SATA 120GB)
    I've downloaded the latest drivers from the msi website and copied them to a floppy disk, but XP setup won't seem to find any RAID controllers from the drivers supplied on the disk.
    I've never had this kind of troulbe in the past, and I"m banging my head against the wall trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
    Does anyone know of and updated Promise 20376 SATA drivers, or anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.
    Ian

    Power supply is a A+POWER ATX 450W power supply. It's a higher-end PSU, not one of the chepie PSUs that come with the cases.
    Only other hardware that would make a difference is the ATI RADEON 9700 Pro, Samsung PC2700 RAM, and I think that's about it.
    Let me know if I left something out.
    Thanks,

  • Ram Problems and Bad SWC's

    Abstract
    So there are lots of grate swc's tuday... But some of them are done with troubles...
    On the other side AS/MXML programmers some times do not know C or do not want to dig into alchemy...
    So If SWC function works but after its work some trash byte stays in your RAM... What can you do?
    Problem
    How to clean up ram which was occupied by function after that function has  finished its work?
    Example
    I'm using some  alchemy synchronous jpeg  encoder (like here ) to convert some MXML component to Jpeg... It works Fast! it's grate I'm love in it BUT after I use that function 1000 times on 1024x1024 or any other size it fulls up all my RAM!!!(((
    Code
    private function CJpegWay(e:Event):ByteArray {
    var bmpdata:BitmapData = new BitmapData(mySource.width,  mySource.height);
            bmpdata.draw(mySourceConteiner);
    var timer:int = getTimer();
    var ba:ByteArray = bmpdata.getPixels(new Rectangle(0,0, mySource.width,  mySource.height));
    var jpegBA:ByteArray= as3_jpeg_wrapper.write_jpeg_file(ba, mySource.width,  mySource.height, Some.value, SomeOther.value); /* If We'll comment "= as3_jpeg_wrapper.write_jpeg_file(ba, mySource.width,  mySource.height, Some.value, SomeOther.value)" no ram overflow will happen */
    it.text = ("   !!! C  JPEG ENCODING: !!! "+(getTimer()-timer)+"ms.").toString() + " "  + " jpegBA.length=" + jpegBA.length.toString();

    So Can Any One HELP ME and HELP ALL OF US... PLEASE...

    I'm working on an AIR application which take snapshots every minutes, and I've got the exact same problem (with both as3_jpeg_wrapper.swc and jpegencoder.swc).
    I'm using the Vector optimized asynchronous encoder by Ian McLean, but a working swc built with Alchemy without the memory leak issue would really be better.

  • RAM upgrade and other queries for 13" Macbook (Late 2006)

    Hi everyone,
    I have read many posts on these forums (very informative I must add) but I need your help in clarifying a few issues. I have a 13.3" white Macbook which I purchased in May 2007 - 2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 80 GB HDD. I plan on upgrading from my current OS 10.4.11 to 10.6 Snow Leopard in a few weeks. My issues:
    1. Upgrade RAM to the max allotment. I read on Apple support (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1651) that I can only go up to 2 GB RAM for my MB model. However various folks in this forum as well as 3rd party vendors dispute this for up to 3.3 GB RAM - via two 2 GB RAM memory. Can someone validate this? I plan to purchase memory from OWC.
    2. My laptop fan is running more frequently than normal. Should I worry about this? I don't see any abnormal usage in Activity Monitor. Any thoughts?
    3. I have clocked 312 battery recharge cycles on my MB battery. A couple of times the laptop shutdown when there was 15 mins charge remaining. Anyway the past few weeks I have kept the power cord plugged in since I don't move much. I read somewhere this bypasses the battery once the charge is complete. Is this true? Is there a battery recharge cycle count when its advisable to replace the battery?
    Thanks in advance for the help guys. My MB has served me well and I really want to continue on this machine rather than doling out more $$ for a new MB.
    Best,
    Wal (SD)

    I have about 20GB free space out of a total of 80 GB HD. At this moment I don't plan on increasing the HD space. But after installing OS 10.6, if the fan speed issue continues then I may invest in a new HD. My assumption is installing OS 1.6 will free up some space and I am hoping that will keep me comfortable.
    Reg. my battery, yeah it has lasted for over 2.5 yrs. So I am happy about that. But I hear what you are saying. Perhaps I will get a new battery. Are there any longer lasting batteries introduced for the late '06 MB? A full charge lasts me about 3 hours - assuming I don't run any data or video intensive apps.
    Thanks again for your advice!
