KT4 Ultra--Replacing C-Media with SoundBlaster Card

What's the best way to replace on board audio with a sound card? Do I have to go into the bios or fool with jumpers and turn off the on board audio  before I install the card and drivers? Or do I just uninstall the c-Media drivers?
Thanks.

Hi!
Soundblaster is definately great card. I have owned several of them, latest one being Live Player 5.1. The sound quality of those cards were okay, but nothing spectacular. The situation was the same with Hercules Fortissimo II card I had.
Now I'm using the 6 channel C-Media chip of my KT4 Ultra BSR -motherboard. After comparing the sound quality of Live Player, Fortissimo II & C-media chip I was quite surprised because the integrated chip delivers equal quality throught the speakers I use (SB 5100 5.1).
So I sold thouse other cards & I'm very happy with the sound I have. One bonus with C-Media has been reliable & solid drivers (IMHO SB could learn something here
PS. This KT4 Ultras BSR is rock solid & i really love it! :D

  • KT4 Ultra FISR C-Media line-in problem

    Hi all.
Recently installed the KT4 Ultra - replaced ecs k7s5a
Very happy with the board so far.
However I cannot hear any sound from the line-in for this sound card.  I'm using digital spidif output - from bracket.  tv card audio out to sound line-in.
cannot hear the audio even if the mixer line-in is enabled.
The tricky bit is if i record video or use sound recorder it records the line-in audio!
I've never come across this before!
To make sure it wasnt the tv card I plugged in a radio - no line-in sound but if sound record - get sound from the play back of the created file!!!
Anyone know of a fix for this?  Is it a dud m/b or component?
Apart from this issue i've been really impressed with the sound output from this M/B.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can i replace original media with newly transcoded optimised media in the timeline?

I have transcoded new optimised media (Prores 422) after importing and partly editing some original Canon H.264 material. I now want to replace the original H.264 edit with the matching new pro res 422 clips so I can playback more smoothly on a MBPro. I can't find a menu command in FCP X to allow me to do this other than during the initial import process. But it does allow you to create transcoded material after the initial import; how do you link/replace to it?

Welcome to one great feature of FCP X: what you are asking for is not needed. It is done for you automatically.
When you have selected "original or optimized media" selected in your preferences, FCP X will use optimized media if available, or original media if you haven't transcoded. So really there is no step 3 :-)

     ;( Please help me any1.
I have MBO KT4 Ultra-SR (MS-6590) with CPU AMD Barton 2500+ and i have a big problem. System corectly boot only if a select CPU FSB Clock = 100 MHz (CPU Ration/CPU Vcore/DDR Voltage=all AUTO). When a select CPU FSB Clock 133 or 166 MHz, system begin run corectly and after few second turned OFF. I selecting SDRAM Frequency on=AUTO/266/333/400 MHz but not working. My old CPU is AMD XP Palomino 2100 MHz and work fine with KT4 Ultra MBO. I upgrade BIOS with 1.4 version. I change memory module with PQI (PC 2700/256 MB) and JETRAM (PC 2700/256 MB) but is same ":censored: ". System dont work. Bad CPU Barton 2500+? I dont no. Please help me any1.

Most of the time, this sort of problems arise because of power suppliy issues.. U have a enamax 300W PSU which is a VERY GOOD PSU but might just be on the line...
If u can, try swapping the PSu for a good 400 or a 420W PSU.. this might solve your enigma.. I really dont think this is your processor...
Read this two articles on PSu wrtten by one moderater which will aid in solve in fixing your problem (PSU1 , PSU2 , Troubleshooting Guide )

  • KT4 Ultra IRQ problem

    Hello Everybody !!
I have small problem... Two months ago i bought my fantastic KT4 Ultra... :D I'm very happy of that.
Everything works fine, but my agp PNY Geforce4 Ti 4200 has the sam irq 16 like my integrated C-media 8738MX  sound card.
    The question is:
Is it bad or not ??? If it is bad, how can I change the IRQ for my Geforce card???? Becauce it is impossible to change IRQ in Windows XP. I know that there is possibility to change IRQ in BIOS, but I dont know what PCI slot is shared with AGP.
I will be very grateful for any help.
    My configuration:
    Windows XP SP1
    MSI KT4 Ultra-B
    C-Media 8738MX integrated sound card
    PNY Verto Geforce4 Ti 4200   64MB
    2 x 256 MB DDR333
    Lite On 48/12/48
    Maxtor 40 GB Ata 100

I had problems with TV cards, had the TV@nywhere and a Leadtek TV2000 XP Delux. I eventually got them both working. Win2k and WinXP disable the control ability of PCI interface which stops you from installing new cards and drivers. I fixed it by
    1. First remove any unknow devices in "Device Manager".
    2. Run regedit (WinXP) or reget32(Win2K).
    3. Check to make sure that "full control" for the profile that you are using i.e. Admin is allowed in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINEsystemControlset001enu mPCI.
3 keys need to be changed to "full control".
    Controlset001enumPCI,
    Controlset002enumPCI,

  • Crystal orb on kt4 ultra northbridge...

does anyone know if the thermaltake crystal orb fits ok onto the kt4 ultra's northbridge? it's supposed to, but i'm paranoid that the holes aren't in the right place  8o
    thanx

    Thanks for the reply.
I was asking about the noise because you know what? some people are actually replacing their northbridge fan with a heatsink claiming it is making noticeable noise
I got 7 fans in my case so 1 more is not gonna hurt
I just checked with another seller and it seems like the standard Kt4 Ultra is now coming with a northbridge fan and not a heatsink as seen before...weird...but MSI has released a new KT4V MS-6712 - more info at:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=362&MODEL=MS-6712
it's got audio, lan and a heatsink (not a fan)

  • CMOS /GPNV Checksum bad in KT4 Ultra

HI! I looked out at some replies about this same problem but some of the post didn't adjust to my case or the answers doesn't help.
My tragic history is this. Three weeks ago my PC started to restart in the middle of work or windows would refuse to start (both Windows 98 and XP) always giving different reasons or none in the most cases. I decided to boot Linux and it gave me a Kernel panic so I thought that it could be a memory problem and it was. A Dim that a friend gave me was damaged in some way and it provocked the problem (I tested my PC without it and it never restarted). I decided to upgrade my memory to 1 Gb so I bought two new 512 dimms. It worked fine but recently my PC had suddenly been reestarting or simply stoping working giving sometimes a couple of beeps. Then sometimes it gaves me
"CMOS /GPNV Checksum bad". I have reseted the Bios to defult values and set the FSB in 133Mhz but in a couple of reboots it returns to it. At first I thought it was overheated (my room is pretty hot being the procesor temperature of 44° - 54°) but it never stops in the same number and it have done it very cold. One more thing: I never witnessed this but my brother said that one time it showed a message saying something about an error with the PCI Video Card. I'm open to suggestions and any help will be appreciated. Windows also gave me last time this:
    *** Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF81F0F2, 0xED9027C8,0x00000000)

    My Pc profiles is:
    Motherboard : KT4 Ultra
    Processor: Athlon XP 2000+
    Video Card: Ati Radeon 9200
    Memory: 2 dims 512 Mb 333Mhz Kingston
    Bios: Ami bios V 1.3
PS: Sorry for the long post and the bad english

Thanks for the advice, I'm taking note of them to apply them each time that I take a look at my PC state. In fact, some time ago I got a problem with dust on the motherboard but it never came to my mind that I could be having a problem in the PSU because of the same reason, in fact I didn't use to clean dust from it just from the devices, thing that I'm changing right now.
About the PSU, it really is dead, it gave me some pretty sparks and died... good news is that I only lost the PSU and Sound Card and now I getting a better PSU to support all my devices and I'm looking for a better way to keep the system cooler. I'm going to use the day of tomorrow to do the fix and I hope that the problem will be solved.
But first I'll go looking for my cleaner ^_^
    Thank you all!

  • KT4 Ultra + Radeon 9700

Is this true ? Can anyone confirm it ?
I found this thread on the http://www.rage3d.com forum.....
    ================================================================================
Hey guys I just got off the phone with an MSI technician and he informed me that recently they found out that older revisions of the KT4 ultra have a problem with the 9700's (my revision was 1.1) has to do with a quick transistor/resistor addition to the board.
Luckily for me, their main US headquarters are located in my City (Talk about luck, i also found out Gigabyte has an office right next to then)
I packed up my board and handed it over to a technician this morning and they said I'll get it by tomorrow. Hopefully this might be able to help any of you out there with the KT4 board. If you bought it recently, I'd honestly suggest possibly going back to the store and checking to see if they have newer revisions of the KT4.
Go to MSIcomputer.com and look up their local office for you. I honestly feel bad for all of those who have to pack it up and ship it out of state but like I said, i'd suggest going for something newer.
This might also be the same with all the ASUS boards that are not working. Check the revisions of the board itself

This is a link to the thread I hope it works:

  • KT4 Ultra 6590

    Hi!..
I got recently problem when i installed my new ddr-memory
    It's a: ddr twinmos pc3200 512Mb (400mhz FSB) with winbond.
Something weird happened when running c&c geneals.
An area on the screen lost the graphic suddenly and went like black, and then 1 sec. after the whole system freezed. music hanged to beep.
And the only thing to do was reset.
Before this 512 memory I had a twinmos pc2100 256 Mb (266mhz) and had never any problems at all....
I have heard from a friend that kt4 ultra 6590 has problems with running memories in 400Mhz ...It worked though when testing to play c&c generals directly in a 4 hours period after I installd the memory this night.
    But now something protested.  ?(
But everything else works excellent in windows and all (knock in wood ;P )......huh???
    Pleased for answers
    Help!
    /p

http://www.memtest86.com , that can tell you if the memory and the board are getting along.
Let it run for about an hour.
If the test doesn't find a problem you should check and see if lowering the memory to 333MHz helps.
It might also be the power supply not handling it all with the new RAM and crashing under the stress.

  • KT4 Ultra MS-6590 and XP-Install problems

    or i get a blue screen IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
i deactiveted in Bios EVERYTHING what has to do with caching.
then install runs (i must wait many houres  :O ) and after the final reboot i had the welcome screen and after a few minutes a get the system beep and a reboot.
    why?
why can i not install my XP like other people..
    what is the problem?
i dont made a bios update yet.
    Please help... THANKS

    Thank you for you help
i searched on the german MSI Homepage http://www.msi-computer.de for the BIOS update (i am german   ) and i only find version 1.2.
should it work with this version? or is the bug fixed only in 1.3?
where can i download version 1.3 (compatible with german boards too or is there no different?)
i have a award bios and on the official HP seems that there are only AMI Bios.

  • KT4 ultra Agp 3.0 slots compliance with agp 2.0 graphics cards

Ive just bought a KT4 Ultra motherboard and am now looking for a graphics card. What i want to know is what its compliance is like with graphics cards that are agp 2.0 (2x 4x). ive heard different views from web pages some that agp 3.0 is fully backward compliant with 2.0 and others the opposite, whats the score with the KT4 Ultra board, what cards do people know it works fine with. Im looking in the range of GF4 Ti 4200 - 4600. Any info, help or reccomendations on good cards would be appreciated
    thanx

  • KT4 Ultra: conflict w/ expansion cards

This is my first post, so please be gentle. I recently built new PC for photo editing and want to keep this old KT4 Ultra computer for general usage right beside. Both are running Windows XP Home SP3.
My KT4 computer had HDD crash and after replacement and fresh istallation of XP I initially had following expansion cards inside:
USB Expansion card (w/ 4 USB ports) on Slot 2 (INT B#)
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC on Slot 3 (INT D#)
Terratec EWX 24/96 Sound Card on Slot 6 (INT C#)
Everything was OK until I wanted a LAN connection for sharing of files (mostly) and Internet (via cable modem) between these two. Instead of a broadband wired router I opted for a Gigabit Ethernet card installing it on slot 5 (INT B#).
USB Expansion card (w/ 4 USB ports) on Slot 2 (INT B#)
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC on Slot 3 (INT D#)
D-Link DGE-528T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter on Slot 5 (INT B#)
Terratec EWX 24/96 Sound Card on Slot 6 (INT C#)
Somehow didn't want to have it on slot 1, so close to video card. Unfortunately after this the sound card was dropped by the system, a yellow question mark in Device Manager.
Further I failed to instal my Bluetooth Dongle which I earlier had used succesfully for communication to my mobile phone. Now my Broadcom USB Bluetooth Device is put under Unknown in Device Manager.
I did experience problems with the sound card several years ago in this very same PC. That time I knew little about system and BIOS setting and had to use another PC for audio purposes (digitalizing of tapes and vinyl).
As reference I used the PCI Interrup Request Routing table, found on page 2-32 in KT4's manual. Funny thing is that Sandra XI tells now that my two Ethernet cards having both INT pin A# while by their slots they should be B# and D#. I don't have true understanding what this means though. In BIOS the PNP/PCI Configurations has all slot IRQs on Auto.
Is this conflict easily cured by re-positioning card(s) on other slot(s) or addressing IRQ settings manually, and if so how and in which order? Or should I remove all the cards and install them in certain order...?
I'm quite exhausted as I had some component issues with my new PC and now this KT4 once again rejects my sound card. Maybe I'm better off by installing it on my new PC, but then this failure with Bluetooth dongle, (which I put on the USB port of KT4, not on the USB exp. card.) Oh my, why can't sound card and ethernet card live together!?!
I would appreciate your help very highly.

Hope you get things like you want them!
Eh, made this in 2003, but I'm not sure if it isn't more confusing than anything else:
"The use and sharing of IRQs aren't mentioned in my MSI manual, (due to the APIC function I think), so I had to go to some ASUS manuals. As standards are standards, I believe things can't be to different. If someone has any addings or suggestions please come forward, so I can adjust the table.
*Please note that this is generally speaking and mainly for ASUS boards a few years old!
**Please note that you should not have any sharing with the IDE controller or similar!
***Please note that it is a good thing to have expansion PCI sound cards in slot 3!
****Please note that surprisingly enough it looks like PCI slot 2 would be free for any device, but AGP cards get hot and bigger so it is not a great idea.
    IRQ sharing table
PCI 1 shares with PCI slot 5
2 shares with AGP and PCI slot 6, or sometimes with onboard IDE
3 shares not, or sometimes with onboard audio/modem
    4 shares with onboard LAN
    5 shares PCI slot 1
6 shares with AGP and PCI slot 5
AGP slot shares with PCI slots 5 and 6
USB 1 shares with USB 2, 3 and USB 2.0
    2 shares with USB 1, 3 and USB 2.0
    3 shares with USB 1, 2 and USB 2.0
    USB 2.0 shares with USB 1, 2, and 3
Onboard audio/modemshares not, or sometimes with slot 3
Onboard LAN shares with PCI slot 4
Onboard IDE shares not, or sometimes with PCI slot 2 "
Normally it is best to let Windows or whatever OS you run do the job. Setting IRQ:s yourself is a (too) big assignment.

  • Windows Media Player 11 problems with SoundBlaster Live! Driv

My sound card stops working as soon as I try to watch a video with WMP. I have a Creative Labs SoundBlaster Li've! with a driver date of 8/29/2002. When I go to adjust audio properties, the system doesn?t recognize the card even though it is still listed in the hardware and says ?Device is working properly. I have reloaded the driver, and the card begins to work again, but as soon as I attempt to view a video, I?m back to the same place.
When I run the diagnostics included with the SoundBlaster card prior to running WMP, it passes on Hardware Detection, Wave Driver, MIDI Driver, DirectSound Driver, DirectSound3D Driver, but not on Mixer Driver, SoundFont Setting and Mixer Settings Check. After I run WMP, the only test that will pass is the Hardware Detection.
I have also tried this with the October 2002 driver set for SoundBlaster. In addition, I have downloaded the most recent driver set from Creative Labs.
    I'm running Windows XP SP2.
Other programs like iTunes and various games work after I reinstall the drivers, but will not work after WMP starts. It appears that WMP is the source of the problem. Any suggestions?

Make sure you have the DRM update for the Li've drivers. I suspect WMP is cutting out the sound. Just to make sure that this is in fact the case, you could try playing back your clip with some other media player.

  • Is FSB overclocking above 175 MHz possible with KT4 Ultra?

I would like to squeeze a few extra MHz out of my AMD XP2600+ (without unlocking or other hardmods that cost money if they fail...). I have upped the FSB to 175 successfully, which gives me just above 2200 MHz CPU speed as reported of Motherboard Monitor. But when I go above that, it crashes. Upping the voltage from auto (1.65 on my system) does not seem to help. A guy on an overclocking board suggested that it's because it stops in the AGP/PCI slot since there is no lock of those speeds. Is this possible in any way, or are there any other dirty tricks to use so I can get more speed out of this?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

thanks!!!yes, it really seems to be a power source issue...
i am using a powerline 450W power source, and the smart doctor utility form asus reported a reading of red marked warning 3.12 volts intead of 3.3 volts, also i tested the 3.3 rails using a multimeter while the system was on and capture drivers under conflict and it reported a 3.25 voltage.....i opened the power source's box and clean its dust, and so, the problem is not happening anymore!!.anyway smart doctors is reporting a 3.15 voltage instead of 3.3 (not in red or under warning message)and the multimeter is reporting 3.27. but everything is working fine: capture and tv out fetures while using the processor as an athlon 2800+ for the first time since i bought the motherboard........
the 5 volts line is reported by the multimeter with 4.95 volts after and before the problem was happening, same with smart doctor.
    the hardware i used was:
    -two MSI kt4 ultra boards
    -kt4A
-an intel motherboard which i don't remember its brand, using dimm pc 133 memory(using anoter power supply)
    -asus v8460 for all boards
-same ddr memory for all msi motherboards
since the voltage is still not 3.3 volts reported, even if the entire video card is working fine, and i only cleaned the box, and didn't change anything to its structure, maybe the problem could happen again, i guess i should buy another power source then.
    i am very thankful
    Andres.
PD: i see that a lot of people is having this kind of problem through the forum and maybe its due to this voltage stuff too....maybe it'd be a good idea if a sticky thread  is posted repoting this stuff i believe. (if it hasn't yet of course)
