KT4 Ultra XP 2200+

I have two of these set ups a 2200 and a 2400 no problem with the 2400 but the 2200 shows up as a 1500.I set the FSB at 133 and ahe clk 13.5 saved and still shows up as a 1500 100fsb can not get it to show correct cpu speed,
MSI KT4 Ultra (6590)v1.X
512 PNY ddr 2700
PNY Ti4400
WD 60 gig ?(

Sorry for the confusion the bios is rev 1.3...Yes I read all that and tried all that I know.I found where the XP processor due to it's design will not rec the 133 fsb.It tells me I need to set it manually, which it will not let me do, always get that error msg and back to F1 or F2.I was sure I read that there was a way to disable the auto detect of the the mobo.I can not seem to locate or I may be thinking of a different mobo. Just seems strange that it works with the 2400 but not the 2200.If you can think of anything else please let me know.Thanks......guz

  • KT4 Ultra RAm settings?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my system to a KT4 ultra, athlon 2200+XP, 512MB Crucial 2100 DDRAM and an MSI GF4 Ti4600.
Now its running ok, but I think its running a tad under par. Its benching about 10900 on 3DMark 2001. Which aint the best.
I was wondering about changing the RAM settings in BIOS. Would they have much of effect?
Also what about flashing the BIOS, with version 1.1? I'm very wary about doing that because the last couple of times I flashed a bios it screwed the motherboard up royally. Is it worth the risk?

    Hi,
You may try "Load High Performance Default" in the BIOS. If it works, good, you should get few extra marks by some margin. If it caused instability to the system, don't force it, revert to BIOS Setup Default.
The effect of those RAM settings can only be seen by benchmarks. Normal usage, you can hardly feel any difference.
For BIOS, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Most BIOS updates do not meant to improve performance, but for bug fix and to support new hardware. Read the BIOS update info you'll know what has been fixed/updated.

  • UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME KT4 Ultra MS-6590

I have been get this UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error all day. I been try to install XP Pro but it alway does this after I begin the install progress.
I have done fdisk, Partition Magic format, windows install format, and format but I keep get this error. I thought that it was was the hard drive but I try install XP on my ASUS K7V mobo and it work without a prob.
The reason I reinstall is to turn off the APIC and APCI so I can stop the infinite loop error I been getting. I have restore the default setting and still doesn't work.

This had happened to me a few months ago. What had happened on my system was that the Book Sector to the hard drive had been overwritten.
I loaded the recovery console from the XP CD and wrote a new one on there. Then the system loaded perfectly. No problems since.
    Hope this may help

  • Kt4 ultra bios

have a strange paradox regarding disturbing message at boot up.
when i boot my system i recieve a message:
"no drive attached to fast track controller.  no bios detected.."
i love msi boards and have used this forum in past very sucessfully with the assistance of BAS.
I donated my old system to a freind in need.  It was all of 11 months old and was a very stable system built on a k7t pro 2-ru.  It had all the bells and whistles.  what a mistake.
my new system is as follows:
    kt4 ultra fisr
256 mb ddr3200 samsung  (as recommended by msi)
    m-audio revolution 7.1
ati all in one wonder radeon 8500 64mb
2-80gb western digital special edition hard drives
    dvd/cd combo lg electronics  gcc-4320b
    athalon xp 2200
    550 watt antec tru-power psu
lian li case with 4 fans (of which only 3 work with the power supply while allowing fan monitoring)
    klipsch pro-media 5.1 speakers
    winxp pro
how i got there to the afore mentioned msge regarding controller and no bios detected...
I was experiencing a lot of problems with the new set up
    such as:
    1.  system crashes while viewing tv
    2.  unexplained boot up of system in the middle of the
night (that was freaky and kind of humorous)
    3.  other system reboots and difficulty of system
         shutdown
    4.  device driver failure messages regarding the ati card
         such as "atimmc.exe  driver failure"
all system crashes revolved around the ati card and after recoveries many registeries were messed with as expected.
all in all I got by with the system as long as i remained off applications involving the radeon card.
last week I checked into the forum here and noticed issues with this motherboard and radeon cards.
i went to the ati site noticed updated drivers, and at the msi site, updated bios for the kt4 ultra boards.
i did not have a floppy so i backed off flashing the new bios onto the board.  I currently have the first version (1.00 or something), the screen flashes so briefly these days.
i decided to reformat the drives and reload xp onto the new system and then retreive the newer drivers for ati card.  upon installation while reading my neurophysiology book upon boot up is when xp informed me that no bios was detected.   xp asked me if i wanted to continue.  so i did continue with sucessfull installation of xp.
being quite surprised that i could still get system on board, i am wondering how to get the bios to be detected and if I should try and flash new bios, if this will correct this.  I am also with fresh install of xp having no difficulties shutting down system now and i am no longer having mystery unassisted boots of the system.
all in all, before the bios problem i was just wondering about the stability of the board with the ati radeon card.
Now I am very concerned with the message, "no driver attached to fast track controller... no bois detected"
any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Boy, do i miss that k7t board...
    thank you,
    Eric

Do NOT worry about the fasttrack controller message!!
It just says you don't have any serial-ATA disk attached. This is how to get rid of the message:
    In BIOS:
    => Integrated Peripherals
    => OnBoard PCI Controller
=> Serial ATA ---> set this to "Disabled"
Can't say I experience any of your other problems, although I had some problems with the sound card the first time I installed.
Seems as if the problems are fewer the more times you install/format the system.....actually experienced that on a couple of MSI-cards. In the end, everything has worked fine for me, so I'm happy with them (except design and layout of the new nForce K7N2G-cards!! ridiculous!)

  • KT4 Ultra MS-6590 - Win XP Home boots with 2GB DDR333 installed but not 3GB

    Spec...
    KT4 Ultra MS-6590
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (FSB set to 166MHz in BIOS)
    BIOS MS-6590v1.4
    Win XP Home 2002, SP3
    Problem...
Previously, had 768MB RAM installed, and XP strangely identified CPU as a 2200+.
Recently upgraded the RAM to 3GB DDR333 (3 sticks of 1GB 184-pin unbuff DIMM 128MX64 DDR PC2700), and changed BIOS settings for CPU and DRAM.
In the DOS boot screen, Win XP progress indicator fills completely from left to right, then stops with a half-blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
Removed 1GB stick and Win XP successfully loaded, also now recognising the Athlon XP 3000+, and running a heck of a lot faster.
Tried adding the /3GB switch to the boot.ini file, which didn't do anything, and after reading more forum advice, guessed this might be irrelevant. I don't think this is a 4GT and PAE issue, as I'm not trying to install above 4GB (if I've correctly understood).
Also, forum advice (various sites) conflicts on whether Win XP 32-bit is limited to 2GB or 4GB, and I can't find any workarounds for my current setup.
    Any ideas?

Another test I've done is to enable boot logging with Win XP. This appends command lines to the file 'ntbtlog' in the windows directory, which mainly shows drivers being loaded as Win XP is launched. The log is normally date and time-stamped for every boot-logging session.
When all 3 sticks are installed, I cold boot, then press F8 and select 'enable boot logging' from the options menu. This is what appears on the screen as the system, attempts to load Win XP.
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\hal.dll
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\KDCOM.DLL
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\BOOTVID.dll
    Loaded driver ACPI.sys
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\WMILIB.SYS
    Loaded driver pci.sys
    Loaded driver isapnp.sys
    Loaded driver viaide.sys
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\PCIIDEX.SYS
    Loaded driver MountMgr.sys
    Loaded driver ftdisk.sys
    Loaded driver PartMgr.sys
    Loaded driver VolSnap.sys
    Loaded driver atapi.sys
    Loaded driver disk.sys
    Loaded driver \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS
    Loaded driver fltmgr.sys
    Loaded driver sr.sys
    Loaded driver PxHelp20.sys
    Loaded driver KSecDD.sys
    Loaded driver Ntfs.sys
    Loaded driver NDIS.sys
    Loaded driver Mup.sys
    Loaded driver BTHidMgr.sys
Then the process freezes and a solid white block appears in the top-left of the screen, with the top-right corner of the block blinking.
At this point, I turn off the PC using the main power switch, then remove the 3rd memory stick. After booting up again, with only 2 sticks installed, opening the text file 'ntbtlog' reveals that this boot event wasn't logged.
So, I reboot Win XP with only the 2 sticks installed, and select 'enable boot logging'. This time, the above list of loaded drivers is shown in the text file, plus a whole lot more. The potentially interesting observation is the next in the list after "Loaded driver BTHidMgr.sys" which is "Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\amdk7.sys".
'amdk7.sys' is a driver file which seems to come with one of the Win XP Service Packs, and which "is necessary to enable Windows XP support for AMD PowerNow! technology on computers that use a mobile Athlon 4 or mobile Duron processor." http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306458
Various other posts refer to it in relation to AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Mobile, whereas mine is a 3000+ in a desktop. Also, if 'amdk7.sys' isn't available, then Win XP will load the generic driver 'processr.sys'. In fact, my 'ntbtlog' includes the entry "Did not load driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\processr.sys" which would make sense.
However, my curiosity is that with the 3 sticks installed, Win XP fails to continue loading when reaching 'amdk7.sys' in the driver list.
Another test I did was to change the power management settings in the BIOS.
"IPCA Function: This item is to activate the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power
Management Interface) function. If your operating system is ACPI-aware, such
as Windows 98SE/2000/ME, select Yes. Available options: Yes, No."
This was normally set to Yes. When I set it to No and rebooted with 3 sticks installed, instead of a half-blinking white block (as described above), the screen went black and then the system rebooted itself...
    The plot thickens!...
Maybe there's a clear explanation for this - however, I'm wary of doing something to the 'amdk7.sys' driver file (whether removing or disabling it somehow) in case it prevents Win XP from launching with just my 2 sticks installed. I'd guess there are precautions, but need further info on whether this is relevant, and what the implications might be.

  • Raid & KT4 Ultra BSR

;( Can anyone save my sanity!
Read all about updating PC,  thought easy, I can do that. During summer fitted extra memorey 512, fitted new hard drive, then an extra one for back ups, all well so far, then at Christmas bought KT4 Ultra BSR board & AMD 2400XP. Fitted ok no probs, great.
So why can't I understand how the hell to get Raid to work. The guide is about as useful as a smack in the mouth. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get an easy to understand guide to which HDD connects where and what I do with the jumpers on each. Tried configuring  as Master and Slave on same cable to IDE 1 works Ok. Then tried same on IDE 3 only MAster shown and cannot configure raid. Please help before I trash it!

  • New KT4 Ultra Won't boot

Still looking for an answer to my boot up problem.  Computer starts and the lights on the dbracket stop at the first green light.  I get no video, keyboard or mouse and I have to use the power supply switch to turn it off.  I assembled the board with no problems. Rule out the stupid stuff like plugging stuff in with power on the board or misinstalling the cooling fan. I followed the instructions carefully.  Did I break this thing, or should I buy a new power supply X(  and try again?  It would have been nice if the manual said something about the power supply so I could have planned that into my system.  I really thought 300 watts was enough...  it worked fine on my Shuttle system.  If you have a recommended power supply in the $30-40 range, please let me know the make/model so I can go shopping.
I would greatly appreciate any help that will keep me from having to spend hours on the phone with the MSI Tech Support help desk.

I had this problem when I first got my KT4 Ultra and it was either one of two things I did and it works fine now.
Make sure that you don't have more of those spacers that seperates your MB from your case. There should only be like 6 that you need to put on. Any more than what you have screw holes for up top and you're potentially shorting out the board to the case. Luckily I didn't cause any damage and as soon as I put only the necessary spacers in, I had full boot up.
Another possibility is that your jumper pin that is used to clear the CMOS is in the wrong position. I contacted MSI tech support before and pointed out that what was shown in the diagram as the correct jumper position was different than what is said in the instructions. This caused me some confusion and luckily again, it didn't cause any damage.
Hopefully someone else will chime in on my response to your problem and either back me up or disprove it but it couldn't hurt to double check those things I've pointed out.

  • KT4 Ultra - Monitor shuts off

Hey guys...i posted a while back with my problem regarding errors within windows, even after reformatting, and also it just randomly powering down..i solved those errors by replacing the memory chip and also replacing the HSF as the proc. was running rather hot...now, however, i'm faced with another problem...I'm using the PC and then all of a sudden the screen goes blank, says its not recieving a signal...so it seems the Vid.Card is just shutting down and not outputting anything..and it happens randomly, just during regular use, not gaming or anything, so i highly doubt the vid card is overheating...i then have to do a cold reboot and the screen works again for another 10 minutes or so and then just goes blank..its gotten to the point where the computer is barely usable with this screen problem so does anyone know what or have any ideas on what i could do to rectify this? Thanks!

    Thanks!

yep, i surely tested the cpu temps and memory and it was working without a hitch, now this monitor issue came into play...the monitor is rather old, could it just be shot? the PSU AMPS to the rails are as follows "Output: +3.3V@28A;+5V@30A;[email protected];+12V@15A;[email protected];+5VSB@2A". Is that my weakness? or perhaps the vid card is just dying? What is most probable? Thanks for the help!

  • Kt4 ultra problem

hello! i am having a problem with my kt4 ultra.
it originally booted, but once i hit delete to go into setup everything crashed. now when i boot, i get 2 beeps followed by another 8 beeps.
i've done alot of browsing through these forums and other sites, and heres what i find over and over:
    10 Short
     CMOS register
Check the motherboard and remove all expansion cards and replace one at a time.
i've done this and there is still a problem. am i doing the wrong diagnostics for the 2-8 beep combo?

i cleared cmos by removing battery and via the jumper method. no go.
the cpu/mobo/ram/video/ethernet were in another computer and worked previously. i sold them to my friend and had him buy a new case - i got everything setup the first time, booted, hit del to go into bios to make sure all settings were correct. it crashed and now does the 2-8 combo beep.
previously the mobo was in another case and we used different ram, but i still get the 2-8 beep combo using that same ram.
    spec are:
    350w ps
    kt4 ultra mobo
    athlon xp 2200+
    geforce 4 ti4600
    1 gig ddr 300 ram
30 gig western digital 5400 rpm hd
    philips cdrom
    netgear ethernet card
    +3.3 = 28A
    +5 = 35A
    +12 = 17A

  • Problems with FuzzyLogic 4 and KT4 Ultra

I am having problems with the overclocking using the FuzzyLogic 4 and my KT4 Ultra board. It is a new board with a new Athlon 2200 XP processor and 1GB crucial memory. If I use FL4 to overclock using the auto session, it puts the turbo to 1.93GHz after the reboot. After about an hour the system will lock up completely. If used the manual settings of FL4 to lower the increments by 2 all the way back down to the original speed. None of the overclock settings will work for more that a couple of hours! I mean I can't even get this 1.8GHz cpu to overclock to 1.833GHz for more than a couple of hours without crashing. Should I be overclocking in the bios instead of using this program? The memory is 266 DDR.

Hi, i have a kt4-ultra sr and i have same problems to overclocking stable cpu xp 1800+ (1533 mhz)------to (1566 mhz), i try overcloking again on 1566 mhz- 1600 mhz my system freeze with run games.lamentably kt4 was not what I hoped. :O.
i buy it model (with a ventilator in chipset )for not to have problems of overclocking, but  paid  expensive and in fact not works of correct way  for anything .I am unconformed with kt4 .I see that you have same problems.

  • MSI KT4 ULTRA BSR QUESTIONS

I just bought new stuff for my computer
     kt4 Ultra bsr
     AOPEN Geforce ti4200 128mb DVI
2200 XP CPU (IN A BOX)
     256 ddram 333mhz
so i began rebuilding my computer,
first thing i did was moving the CLEAR CMOS to the right position (by the manual) then it wouldn´t boot, no lights, no fan movement, so i found out later  on the internet that it was wrong, so i put the jumper in the other position as shown in the internet.
But when i start up the computer now it only shows
    1500 XP 1350 mhz, should be 2200 xp - 1800mhz i think.
but it won´t start with the fsb at 133 mhz. what can i do ????
    i have calculated the 5v * 30a + 3.3v * 14 = 196w (dont know what that mean hehe)
i just dont know what´s wrong huff plz anyone help ?

    Hi,
unable to run FSB at 133Mhz is either two problem or both:
    1. CPU Heatsink did not install properly, thermal grease applied wrongly
    2. Power supply does not have enough power
    Check both of them.
Your power supply is very weak for today's system. Please consider an upgrade. But don't blindly go for the bigger numbers -- 450W, 550W, survey more to know about the quality of the power supply, especially the +3.3V and +5V rails, which both should supply similar amount of current, ie +3.3V @ 35A, +5V @ 36A for a good 400W. For more insurance, go for the well known brand. But usually they cost more.

    Hi gruberstuber,
It sounds horribly like you're IBM Deskstar may be living up to it's more threatening nickname of DeathStar. These HDDs have a pretty awful history for reliability and from the symptoms you describe, I would be feeling pretty nervous about continuing with it.
Do you have access to another known good HDD at all, preferably from Western Digital or Maxtor? If you do, it would be worth substituting your IBM for one of these and giving that a go. Might work wonders.
It's not as likely, but it's possible that your PSU is rated slightly to small for the Graphics Card you're using. The GF4 4600 is notoriously power hungry and it is possible that this could be drawing your main voltages down to below -5% of the nominal voltage, this can cause you all sorts of weird problems. As a guide, you can't really tell if a PSU is holding up OK under load conditions by checking the voltages when the system is unloaded, all PSU's will give you terrific voltages in that situation.
I would go up to at least a 400W good quality PSU from either Antec or Enermax to be absolutely sure that the GF4 4600 is being catered for.
    All the best,
    Dimal.

  • Overclocking with MSI KT4 ULTRA

    Hi,
I'm currently overclocking my XP 1600+ Palomino to just under an XP 2200+. My Idle temp is 39C and 47C at Load. My CPU is still locked and I'm running at 167FSB x 10.5 = 1758Mhz / 334 Mhz DDR. So far this is the highest stable overclock I am able to get with my current config. I want to get up to atleast a FSB of 180 - 185 to give my GeIL 512MB DDR433 PLATINIUM some sort of challenge, but I can't get the board to post at anything higher than 168FSB. Is it my board topping out or my CPU? What kind of overclocks is everyone else getting with their KT4 ULTRAs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks  )

Hehe so u think all is about MHz!!!????
If u think so go and get some education about overklocking!
I have reached 209FSB!!! Thats overkill!
And im running my system now on the min level x9 Multippel.
And that wil give me a damn strong and powerfull system, I can overklock it to reach the MHz frequence to but i dont right now, i must get a new mobo first, MSI is only !!!
Its up, i wil get a ABIT, or EpOX mobo. then i+ll show u  :D
Hmm i have a picture if u want.
But i dont know how to make a link to it, becouse i dont have a webpage now.

It would help if you tell us all you have done to fix problem. But I can say that 10 A. to 12v. line, seems very poor. I would disconnect all USB peripherals to see if PC boots. Also if before enabling USB legacy you connected USB brakets on Mobo's pinheaders, I would disconnect them too.

  • Still Cannot do anything on this board(KT4 Ultra)

So in the beginning I bought this new system, here are the specs:
    (Original Specs)
    MB: MSI KT4 Ultra
    CPU: AMD XP 2200+
    RAM1: 512MB PC2700
    RAM2: 512MB PC2700
    AGP: Nvidia Ti4200 128MB
    PCI(All):Empty
    IDE1: 80gig Western Digital
    IDE2: literon 16x DVD
    PSU: 300W
    (cant think of anything else)
So when i got it home, I could not Install Win2K AT ALL, No matter what i did or tried still would not install.
So after awhile i said forget it and install WinXP, worked installed fine(or so i thought).  I installed SP1, d/l all the updates. d/l VIA 4.45 and for the graphics card i d.l the latest certified drivers. Well i thought i was in the clear, but then i started getting errors or problems while trying to run games or 3D apps(cinema4D). So i went through all the forums and ended up replacing the PSU witha Antec true power 480, and the CPU cooler with a volcano 9. but still nothing but problems so i took it back to my dealer and they deemed the mobo bad or something and gave us a new one.took it home and still Errors, did a fresh install of winxp(win2k could still not install)Still erros everywhere. so i took back to them again. and they claimed this time that the cpu cooler was to big and wasent makeing full contact, and gave us a smaller one(i think a volcano7?) i was like alright that is understandable. got it home did fresh install AND STILL Errors.
I dont know what to do, lets see i cant run 3Dmark2001SE program just quits no error. Quake3 quits,Cinema4D says it has generaded errors and needs to quit. at first PCMark2002 did not work, But i was runnin a test on my harddrives and C: would keep failing, so i looked in one of the logs and said something about memory, so i changed my swap file to D: and boom PCmark2002 went all the way trough its tests, and i could do tests on my c and d without any errors but i still can use 3d apps?
    Any ideas please
    Thanks in advanced

    THATS SO NOT TRUE ?
Volcano 9+ was a nice copper base, and it makes great contact with the cpu core
Man i built a simliar PC for a friend:
    MSI KT4-Ultra (bios version 1.3)
    Athlon XP2400+ FSB266 Retail Box
TT Volcano 9+ using box white paste
    Kingston 512 MB PC2700 RAM
    Ati Radeon AIW 7500 AGP4x
    WD 80 GB 7200 RPM
    LG52x24x52x CDRW
    CNET 10/100 NIC
    Windows XP Pro SP1 /Via 4.45
    SP CASE Tower 400watt psu
maybe, it can be your memory, thats my guess
