KT400 333FSB Socket A MB, cannot power down after shut down
I had originally built a system with this motherboard and an AMD Athalon XP 1800 processor (don't remember exactly what it was called 1800 or 2000, the 1.6 GHz speed processor). System runs fine, no problems, except that i don't know how to get it to power off after i've done a shut down in XP Pro. I get the screen saying it's safe to turn off the machine and I keep having to press the power button to turn it off. All my other hardware in the system is realtively average (about 1-1.5 year old technology). I know there's either some kind of jumper to set on the board, or some setting in the bios, or some setting in windows to do this, I just haven't been able to find it. Help me please if you will....it would make my life easier.
Thanks. I will look at these items closer when i get home tomorrow and see what can be done. since it is ruled that the bios controls this feature, i will look at that first. if the bios needs to be changed and the OS re-installed, I will do it and see if that fixes the issue. I doubt it is the soundcard, i am running a SB Audigy and using winXP Pro.

IMac won't power up after shut down.
If I shut my iMac down using the Apple menu it does not restart using the power button on the back of the screen. I have to unplug the iMac at the wall socket and plug it in again, after which the power button will restart the computer. Is this a sign of worse to come?
Snoraa,
You should try doing a SMC reset first. Also are you really running 10.6.2, if so after you have your computer stabilized (not before!!!!!) please run Software Update.
_SMC RESET_
• Shut down the computer.
• Unplug the computer's power cord _and all peripherals_.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
• Release the power button.
• Attach the computers power cable.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.
_PRAM RESET_
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys.

MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)I've had a similar problem with the laptop before this one. I could tell you to try to take the battery out and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then put the battery back, but that probably won't work. I could tell you to hold down the altcommandp or o and try to reset the ram, but that won't work. Your issue sounds like the power supply and your laptop is most likely dead.
If you bought it from apple.com you will have to return it and deal with the most incompetent customer service people on the planet. Took them 2 months to get my issue resolved.

EXTERNAL HD WONT SHUT DOWN AFTER SHUTTING DOWN LOGIC ,HELP
When Im done recording in logic and after I close down the session and shut logic down. I then try to shut down my external HD and I get a message saying " LOGIC IS STILL IN USE AND EXTERNAL HD CAN NOT BE SHUT DOWN, TRY QUITTING APPLICATIONS AND THEN SHUT DOWN" Logic is already shut down and there are no other applications running and it wont let me shut down my external HD. I tried to switch HD's and it still wont shut down after I close all applications. PLEASE HELP....
Message was edited by: philip jWhen you say shut down, you mean "eject" right?
Will it, incidently, eject during a session when you haven't used Logic at all?
One thing you should make sure of with your external HD is that it is formatted correctly - it needs to "un" journalled... may not be the problem, but worth checking.
What kind of external HD is it? -
MY ipad will not power down anymore. Each time I try to power down it shuts down then powers up again.
See if this fixes it. Reboot and let the iPad start up, then try to power down.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
Screen is frozen. Cannot do anything, including shutting down.
Screen locked. Cannot do anything, including shutting down via power button.
Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected. -
Why won't my Time capsule power on after shutting itself down?
Why won't my Time capsule power on after shutting itself down?
Suggest that you unplug the Time Capsule from the power cord and let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Verify that the AC wall socket has power by testing another device like a lamp there.
Try to power the Time Capsule back up.
If it will not power up, unfortunately there has likely been a failure in the power supply section of the Time Capsule.
You will need to take the Time Capsule to an Apple store....if you have one near you....or contact Apple Support directly to go over your options.

While I'm using safari, it will freeze up. When I force quit safari and reopen it, I find that I'm back to where I was when I did the force quit and safari remains locked up. When I try to restart the computer, I get a pop up that says that safari cancelled my restart. I then press the power button to shut down the computer. When I reboot the computer and open safari, I see all the tabs and windows that were opened when this issue began, only this time safari isn't frozen. This problem started yesterday.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a fix for this problem?Try Resetting Safari: Open Safari. Cick on the name Safari in the menu bar. In the drop down menu click Reset Safari.

How to set up password from power on (from shut down)
I have 2 powerbooks and set up passwords for them. For older PBG3, it seems working the password from power on from shut down. But, PBG4 doesn't show up to input password when power on from shut down. It just asks from wake of sleep.
Where can I set up password for this?842/3288
Hi Blue Sky,
- Check in System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options
if the option "Automatically log in as" is disabled.
- Another matter, about increasing security with PowerBooks:
Read it carefully before using it, but this can be useful:
- Setting up firmware password protection in Mac OS X 10.1 or later

Have an iPod touch 4th gen. It is completely charged, but once I disconnect from a power source it shuts down and then the apple logo just keeps reappearing. I have restored via iTunes and reset all the settings. Any suggestions?
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. I now have to go to the apple icon in the upper left corner. Any short cuts instead of going to the apple in the top left corner and hitting shut down. Doing that all the time, I feel like I am back at work using a "Windows" computer.
This a is tricky one, but you can still do it. Instead of pressing the power button, hold it down for a few seconds and then you'll see the shut down options dialog pop up.
I guess they were trying to prevent accidental touching of that button. They did something similar with the Eject button a few versions ago, where you have to hold down Eject instead of just tapping it so that you don't pop out a CD by mistake. -
X240 No Power After Shutting Down Windows
I'm working on X240 Thinkpad which is not powering-up. After replacing the planar it booted but after shutting down Windows, it won't power-up again. I notcied that it powers on again after reseating all battery including the (CMOS battery), but is dead again once you shutdown windows. BIOS FW is updated and its passing the self test. Pressinng the reset button thru pin hole does not solve the issue. It always need resetting all battery (CMOS battery included). Problem does not occur when the thinkpad is not booted to windows and shutdown via power button only. Thanks in advance. Please note that the planar has been replaced for the 2nd time in the span of around 2 months.

This is a freeze, not a crash, so I can't submit info to Mozilla. I've been through this in repeated updates, and it's only getting worse. FF used to be stable, now it's unreliable. I have OS X 10.6.8, fully updated. I have only 2 add-ons: Jave Applet Plug-in 13.8.3 and Shockwave Flash 11.4.402.265. It's entirely random, and usually with an ordinary site, with no video or pop-ups or anything moving. Force-quitting doesn't work; FF shows it's closed in the dock but the window is still open on the screen, and the beachball is spinning. It progressively freezes each app I click on, and finally I have to use the power button to shut down and restart. Again, this is getting worse, not better. I moved to FF because IE and Safari were so bad, but now FF is no better. Thankfully Word seems to save whatever I'm working on if I have to shut down, but email doesn't. With this kind of freeze, I'm not given the option to submit info to Mozilla - everything is frozen, the submit window doesn't even appear.
I spent many years on OSX 10.4 using FF with little problem. It was a bit bloated but worked fine.
Once I got a new machine and went to 10.6, my FF experience went downhill fast. I'm now on 10.6.8 and FF15 and it's by far the worst experience I've ever had with a browser.
It is, frankly, abysmal.
It locks up constantly, grinds away on the hard drive, seems unable to deal with javascript without slowing to a turgid crawl. It freezes seemingly at random and ties up my whole machine.
In the course of a typical working day, I estimate I have to force quit FF around 40 - 50 times. If I start or quit any other app, FF locks up shortly after. -
I use Firefox for all our online bill statements. When I go to my Charter One bank account and press view e-statements, firefox does not view these statements, it has started to show pages that are blank and the tab is say charterone.com....dafault/???????(not
sure what is after default) After shutting down and restarting, my downloads are loaded with these blank pages that I've been deleting--hundreds of these. How do I stop this from happening every time I want to view my account statements?Hi,

Belkin Auto Kit Compatible with iPhone?
I've been reading here that the output voltage for the firewire iPod chargers are different from what the iPhone needs, and may damage it. So now I'm wondering if the Belkin Auto Kit outputs something that's too high too. Does anyone know the answer?
