KT400 problem? or is it?

Well I bought some corsair XMS pc3200 (it is on the list of compatiable ram chips for my KT4 ultra bsr.
Bios settings user defined 400 2-2-5-2 enabled ultra and enabled but when i boot it says it is 333??what in the world?

If not mistaken, at 400Mhz, only CL 2.5 and CL 3.0 are allowed, CL 2.0 will go back to at most 333Mhz. Another occurence is when you are running everything at 166Mhz FSB, only 333Mhz for RAM is allowed. It could also be some other extreme settings like Ultra and 1T command can cause the same 333Mhz limit.
Anyway, comparing 400mhz CL2.5 with 333Mhz CL2.0, the 333Mhz is FASTER.

    hi
    i´m on my thirdMSI6590 kt4 ultra-FISR:
the first one come to me with the fastrak jammed (crc errors during data trasnfer from my toshiba sd1602 to my maxtor40gb 7200rpm ata133) but sound on board ok
the second, the sound chip on board wasn´t there (hard to believe, but true, the people at the store were "#"#$?!.....), but fasttrk ok
the third, when i was thinking that "it´s going to be 3 for the good", the troubles with my radeon start (sapphire9700pro):
hangsup/stops/crash during games, in quake2 in opengl a error message comes (ati09xxx.dll file problem reported).
    whats going up?
    can someone helpme?
i found a thing by myself:
in the field AGP APERTURE SIZE in board bios, if i selct 64mb the games run but with VERY DROPS FRAMES but in opengl in quake2 the erro message stills.
if i select in the same field 128 or 256mb them everything happens: the game stops/crash after few seconds playing (even in 98se/me/2000/xp)
please help me or give me some idea...is the kt400 problem or the card.....i´m baaaaaa......with this thing.

    Hi,
As you didn't list much of your system, it's hard to figure your problems out.....
It could be just a PSU problem 8)

  • Problem GF4 + chipset KT400Problem with Gf4+MS-6712 ATX MB VIA KT400

    Hi all,
    I have this pc:
    AMD 3000+ barton
    MS-6712 ATX MB VIA KT400
    512MB 333
    Radeon 9100 128MB
Now, I've tried to change the ATI 9100 with my "old" Abit GF4 4200 64Mb,but when i put the card in the pc,it doesn't start;no lights, no sounds, it seems to be completely off, like the power supply cable was not in.as i remove the gf4 the pc starts regularly.I've tried to change the power supply, putting in a 400w,with no results.i really don't know what to do
P.S. Sorry for my bad english,i'm italian

i'll try to explain and sorry again for my english
    For Maesus:
I tried to insert the card many times to see if i was doing something wrong, but it's all ok. The card enters without problems in the agp slot.
I've never tried this operation, cause i've never assembled a pc. All I've ever do is simply some peripherical changes like video card sound card power supply ecc ecc. I think i can ruin some part of the pc :(
    For Bonz:
I've watched the pins but there's nothing strange as i could see... the card is screwed and nothing block the agp slot :(
What sounds really strange to me is that with the radeon the pc works regularly and that with the GF4 the pc is dead :(

  • Kt400 ultra fisr power problems

I'm having a lot of problems getting my system running.  I will first explain everything i have...then explain the problem...hopefully someone knows whats wrong or what i'm doing wrong if anything.
chieftec case w/ 450w power supply
    athlon xp 2400+
    kt400 ultra fisr mobo
    samsung 512mb ddr 400

    ati radeon 9700 atlantis pro
    2 80mm fans
    creative sound blaster audigy mp3+
    this is my system
now the problem is when i first started only the fans on the computer would run.(cpu fan, 80mm fans and radeon fans...all ran) but nothing would boot...hard drive or cd roms would not start...no power at all to them.  now nothing will run at all...the d-led indicator has one red light on lower right constantly.  there are no sound beeps/flashing lights anywhere.  Is this a mobo problem or power supply.  I'm getting no video out of my radeon either, so even entering my bios is not an option.  No power at all is going through the system anymore..only to the d-bracket.  Which is very odd since i didn't really change anything at all...only rearranged the power cords inside.  All parts are brand new...  Any help on determining what is wrong with this is much appreciated.  Thanks

  • VIA KT400 Network Card Problems!

I've read allot about the problems I've been having and done many searches on Google and it all seems to come down to this: ALL VIA Motherboards in the KT400 series(and many other chipsets) lock up when using ANY Wireless Card\Usb Adapter. The frusterating part is nobody seems to have a clear answer on how to fix this or if it's even fixable
The forum linked down below tries to claim this only happens with Linksys cards.. This is false as I have a Microsoft Wireless G USB adapter and the EXACT SAME thing happens to me.
The strange part is if you are just browsing the web and reading text, everything works 100% fine. But as soon as you do something that uses DirectX or 3D Acceleration, like say Streaming Videos.. it freezes with the mouse curser just sitting there and I must hard reset the system.
Does anyone out there know of ANY kind of fix? I'm dying to know.
You can view someone elses post referring to the exact problem I have in the VIA Arena Forum

Hey guys it's me again.. Well the computer now seems to freeze less than it did before, but it still freezes.
After all this going back and forth and troubleshooting hassle ive decided it has to unfortunatlely be a hardware problem. I've stated before that it only freezed when running a 3d app and network card running.. but now it freezes even when I'm just on the web. It's just so totally random, sometimes it will freeze twice in one minute and sometimes it won't freeze for almost a whole day.
I've narrowed it down to 3 things: Bad HD, Bad Processor, and worst of all Bad Motherboard. Another possibility, does a the lithium battery on the motherboard ever cause problems if it's almost dead?(Assuming it's the CMOS battery?) And could that cause problems?
I had an episode before that I didn't tell you guys before. This was still after i had the network card, but probably unrelated. The computer once or twice made a very strange electrical zapping noise or screetching noise before and the whole system would almost fail and then try to resume again, and then just shut down.
After this event happened I figured it was the PSU not putting out enough power as I had installed new hardware lately. I bought a new 430W psu and while I haven't had the strange problem I had before, I still get random lockups.
I'm pretty sure it is the harddive, because it would make sense since I heard this noise before and the fact that it just freezes could just be the HD getting stuck and not spinning anymore.
It's funny because I had just replaced a faulty harddrive before in one of my older computers. However that one was much more obvious as it would constantly have to repair files in sectors. The HD I have now never comes up with errors, but maybe It is running fine before it decides to lockup.
Yet another thing it could be is the processor maybe just not generating enough juice to keep the processes going or something.
I did have problems with freezing before the network adapter now that I think back, but they were far and few between and now the problems are more pronounced. I'm going to hope it just the HD, if not it's really going to suck to already have to buy another motherboard or processor. I just built the system from scratch last year.
Sigh, Oh well. Glad for anymore insight on this issue and your opinions on what is most likely the problem. I'm going to go looking for a HD in the mean time.

  • MSI KT4V KT400 chipset, all sorts of problems

Okay so I intalled a new heatsink, the Volcano 12, after having a Swiftech MCX370-CR2 and the Swiftech totally messed up my Zif Socket and CPU, the CPU still works and all, but now I'll tell you why I HATE this motherboard.
    Problems I have now:
    CD drives not detected anymore
CPU temps are way high, were really low at first which is the same for my last heatsink, and this one is better.
Can't overclock to 145mhz, it worked for a while, arrg.
Bottom line is I am very mad with this motherboard.
    Finally I have to say
EDIT: CPU high temps may be related to the MSI PC Alert 4 that I have installed.

Sorry that was a bad description. I installed the heatsink correctly, where can I get Alert 3? I have the fan connected using a 4 pin and I have the RPMs controlled by the 3.5" bay. I didn't try a flat controller, but it is odd that it stopped working after it had been working for probably 3 months.
I cleaned the die and put new thermal paste on, but many are telling me to reapply with only a certain amount, which I thought I had. I'll try the thermal paste again. I need to get that PC Alert 3 you speak of, can I have a link to that? Thanks.
EDIT: teamps now are 47C idle, like 51C load, according to PC Alert 4, bios I'll check for you and edit this again.

  • Problems with MSI 6712 KT400 board

I just installed my new KT4V-L motherboard and AMD XP2400+. I used the memory from my old system (Kingston PC-2100, 256MB DDR RAM). The case is Antec w/ 300W power supply. Leadtek GeForce2 MX 400 Video card. Windows 2000, current service pack
After my first boot attempt, the system crashed in BIOS. After this the system would not boot at all. I removed the new components and checked the memory, HD and video on the old system. Everything worked fine.
I reinstalled the new mboard. The system booted up fine, so I skipped BIOS and went to install the drivers. None of the drivers will install properly. They install wizard comes back with the error message: The data is invalid  ?(
The system is running, but none of the peripherals are working except keyboard, mouse, and video card.
I checked with Kingston, and they claim that the memory chip is compatible, and has been tested with this system.
Has anyone encountered "The data is invalid"?
    Please Help

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions!
First of all, at the recommendation from MSI support email, I did a clean install of Windows 2000. After this all of the drivers loaded properly, and it seemed that everything was working great :D
As I was doing my updates and reloading various software however, I began to experience severe problems with video and was constantly having multiple crashes.  ;(  I checked the power ratings of my little 300 watt power supply, and sure enough, it doesn't quite measure up to the suggestions in the FAQ post. So, I went and bought a new PSU, an Allied 400 watt. Maybe not the best out there, but it was available and the price was not too bad. Once I got the 400W unit in everything has been running beautifully !!!!
I've got the video settings cranked up to the max, and as yet haven't experienced a single stability issue. BTW- it's only a GeForce2 MX 400, so, we'll see what happens when I upgrade to the GF4. Still a few months away, but all is well for now.
    Thanks again

I tried that driver already...same result, but no matter.
I got this sorted today...went and bought 20 mts of ethernet cable, works a treat.
I've come to the conclusion that the USB WiFi Dongle is Kaput.
It looked like it worked in my laptop but this is already WiFi so I guess the new software was just using
    the existing connection.
Dongle was never recognised in the desktop PC I wanted to use it in and in my other desktop was recognised as
Wireless USB Device but after trying to install it got to the same scenario where Windows could never find better drivers.
Just hope Ebuyer will take it back or the £8.50 it cost might bankrupt me!

  • Problem with xp3200 ?

    Hey peeps
Got this board recently, thought i'd give the KT600 chipset a go as i had to go nForce2 way, when the KT400 has so many problems with the Radeon9700 pro. Anyhow, board arrived, new XP3200 arrived too. i also have Samsung PC3200 ddr... sweet. One problem...
If i leave the bios settings on default with the ram in, i get three beeps (ram fault).
I set the ram speed in the bios, put the ram in, starts first time. put the FSB to 200, and mobo reports its an AthlonXP3200+. Sweet. Except after about 5 seconds through the boot, the PC switches off?!!?
It wont turn back on again without pulling the power cable and putting the cable back in.  If i lower the FSB to 166, the mobo reports its an xp2500+, at 1.82ghz...
Anyone got any idea's? to me it seems like it might be over heating... but i have the cooler master aero 7, on full blast, and the heatsink is STONE COLD all the time.... havent tried dissabling the Shut down on over heat yet... bit catious over that!!
    Anyone else with similar probs?
The CPU has been RMA'd cause of faulty first one, but this one def works. as does the ram and mobo (each have been tested independently on diferent machines)

Could be memory related or both psu and memory related If I load "high speed xxx" preset there is no 200fsb at all. If I enable the last setting, fast2xxx something all is fine except 3D crash to desktop. Set memory voltage to 2.7 and go experimental on timing page in bios. The top system preset really seem to make biggest difference, Fast is so so but should work for all mankind, Turbo very good/aggressive, Ultra dont work for me at 200 and is actually slower at 166
VIA still have old problem with agp/pci speed so 195 might be too high for ATI card and hds. But lower fsb could be best setup if you have problems with aggressive bios timings at 200. I know 187 with Turbo give best 3dmark for me (only works with 1x512, not 2x but cant have it all...). Almost certain any fsb that allows lowest latency and most chipset/memory controller tweaks will give best overall performance. A few more fsb dont matter in comparison. With lower fsb you will have to change multiplier to get enough mhz out of that overpriced product you use In case you doubt KT600 will work with XP3200 I can tell you that is how a XP2500 is being seen at 11x200. 12.5 is highest multi? 12.5x176 give 2200mhz so start from there and work your way up. Wont help that much if psu is to blaim tho.

  • KT4 Ultra - SCSI boot problem

    Hi,
I have installed a Tekram DC390U2W LVD SCSI adapter on my KT4 Ultra. My problem is that I cannot select any of the five connected SCSI disks as a boot device in the BIOS (BBS-n), nor can I select 'Legacy SCSI' as a boot device, they simply don't exist as options in the Boot Sequence menu. I've used this card (and were able to boot) without problem using a MSI KT266 motherboard, so I don't think the problem is the SCSI adapter. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've disabled all motherboard options (Serial ATA Raid/1394/USB 2.0/GBLAN/Audio controllers), remove all PCI cards exept the Tekram card and tried it in all PCI slots without success. Also tried to assign different IRQs to the SCSI card in the BIOS. Tekram support responded that the SCSI card is fully PnP/BBS/PCI 2.1 specification compliant and they're unaware of any KT400 issues. There are issues (and work arounds) with this SCSI card when using it on motherboards with an on-board SCSI controller and older Award BIOS versions, but that's not applicable here.
Anyone out there using this SCSI card and motherboard got this combination to work as intended?
