KT4AV 2600+ problem.

I just bought a few items for upgrade and it all seems to run, only trouble is i cant get my cpu upto full speed.
Athlon XP 2600+ (barton)
KT4AV-L  Mobo
1Gb pc2100 ram (2x 256 Crucial Pc2100 + 512 Kingston Pc2100)
Geforce fx 5600 Xt 256mb.
450 Q PSU
+3.3v : 30A
+5v    : 25A
+12v  : 15A
The mobo sets the cpu to XP 2000+ (1.53ghz) but any attempts to go higher then 133 FSB just stops the PC booting and im forced to CMOS reset and start again.
It just reboots and hangs at startup with blank screen, Diagnostics Led say memory check.
I can only imagine the memory isnt happy with the fsb but i cant even get my 2600+ to run at 133 x 15 it still crashes.
I kinda assumed PC2100 would run with a Barton if im wrong guess ill be happy at 1.5ghz til i can replace the ram.
Any ideas are gratefully recieved.
( I did a few forum searches and found nothing similar sorry if its a repost)

thanks for a reply guys
(Deleted last post Managed to get it working
I spent the day doing some reading and random searching and got it sorted, just had to manaually set most of the auto stuff.  I think on auto it just gets confused and goes a bit Ape.
Got a few facts from various places (forums + AMD website) but it was your help that got me started (thinking).
Had to set the memory Bus to 266mhz.  (PC2100)
Increase ram voltage to 2.7v
CPU volts to 1.65v
and clock FSB to 166mhz.
multiplier auto  (Barton auto locked at 11.5)
I know its not ideal conditions but aslong as it runs happy for a few months im chuffed.
Singing happily at 1.92ghz now

i checked my PSU its not Q-tec.  its a QTechnology made by QuietPC. They have a warning about Q-tec on their website.

  • KT4AV Big problems Please Help!!!

I am having a few problems. I have just built a new computer here are the specs:

    80GB Seagate Harddrive
    128SDRAM
I have tried booting this up and it boots up then after about 10 secs it just turns off and makes the "nee nar nee nar" sound like an ambulance. Can anybody please help?

i had same problems before..i think its the ram problem..just give it a small 'twitch' to align it a bit and it boots ok..sometimes when i mess up inside my mobo it occurs again and i just have to try and twitch it again untll it's ok....i think the ram slots are not so good and the rams are quite 'loose'..good luck

  • KT4AV & Graphics problems

    Hi
I am running the above board under winXP with an 2600 cpu & 768mb ram. I am encountering graphics card problems.
I have a Nvidia Geforce2 MX400 installed but on every reboot on checking the device manager it says there is a problem (doesnt say what :( ) If I reinstall the drivers away it goes perfectly until the next reboot. Same scenario with an old 4mb PCI matrox card installs fine then on reboot nice little exclamation mark, until I reinstall it.
Both cards work fine in other systems, AGP is greyed out on auto in bios, and that wouldnt effect the PCI card so I am a little miffed!
    any ideas would be appreciated
    regards
    Obi

Ok thanks, so I read the the bit about WD jumpers...It's the only drive on the cable, so I removed the jumper entirely.  The old asus board was via km400, and this is technically (model-speaking) a different chipset, so should I uninstall drivers with the old board, then install this new board?  Sorry to ask the same question again, but I needed to know if this particular change in chipset is relevant.

  • ATI 2600 Problems

I run CS3 (Mostly Photoshop Illustrator and Indesign) with Strata Pro 5.5 and I will get what I call, "the triangles of death!" They show up and turn my computer into a kaleidoscope of colors and triangles. This is a huge problem for me and an even more of a disappointment because this is supposed to be a "Pro" model I can't work with my computer always screwing up! Is there any solution to this? And yes I have done all the firmware updates and downloads.

    Hello,
I'm new to this discussion forum and haven't figured out how to create new topics (or questions), so I figured I'd just post my problems here. This subject seems appropriate.
I have problems with my my ATI HD 2600 XT on my Mac Pro due to some other problems (I will not go there just now, this is my main concern for now).
The problem is with the 10.5.6 drivers, which I replaced when I reinstalled leopard graphics update with pacifist. (shouldn't have done that in the first place). I replaced them with the old drivers from the graphics update ofcouse, and now my system profiler shows me that QE and CI are disabled:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600
    Type: Display
    Bus: PCIe
    Slot: Slot-1
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x9588
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-B1480A-252
    EFI Driver Version: 01.00.252
    Displays:
    BenQ 241W:
    Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
    Depth: 32-bit Color
    Core Image: Software
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
    Rotation: Supported
I wonder how will I get the working drivers back and have my ATI card working again?
Things are kinda hard when you can't even use iChat or other software that requires QE/CI enabled.
All help appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Kt4av 3d problem

Hi, I,m sorry if this has already been covered but i have been searching through the forums for a couple of days to find an answer to my problem. whenever i try to play any 3d games after about 20 seconds or so the computer just locks up. the pc runs great besides this not a hitch. The graphics card runs great on my sons pc but only at 4xagp since that is all his motherboard is capable of.  would the sticky tape trick fix my problem or am i just hiding it, any advice would be appreciated.
    my comp specs are below,
    cpu XP2600+ 512 l2 cache version
    memory 512mb pc2700
    msi kt4av-L motherboard
    ati 9600xt  8x graphics card
    400w power supply
    maxtor 60gb 7200 133
    pioneer 105 dvdr
    plextor 116 dvdrom
     thanks in advance Mike

there have been lots of complaints about the 9600. i was able to get mine working perfectly by using 4x agp bus speed, and the 3.7 Cat driver and follow these directions:
    1) download and install the latest via driver.
    2) download and install latest soundblaster driver (if you are using a soundblaster audio card of course)
    3) download and install catalyst 3.7 driver/control panel/samartgart from ati.
    4) disable fast-write in bios (this was causing corrupted icons and cursor in windoze for me).
    5) go to c:\programs\ati technology\ati control panel and execute smartgart (it's a link)
    6) enable - pci read/write and agp read (probably allready is enabled).
    7) disable - agp write (default in my case was on causing lots of stability/freeze problems in games).
     "apply", reboot, then "ok".
if the above works, then try 8x. btw - 8x vs 4x is negligable speed difference.
if above doesn't work, then repat using the new Cat 3.10 and see if that works.

  • KT4AV irq problem

I noticed my boards onboad lan, usb controler and agp all share an IRQ.  My video doesn't like shareing an IRQ with lan so I had to put in a network card.  Is there a way to change the IRQ for ether lan or video so I can use the onboard lan?

In the BIOS is APIC enabled? this will give you 23 IRQ's in total (0 to 22).
You should re-install if you do this.
I never have PNP aware OS enabled.
Do you use any serial ports? NO then disable both.
Do you use a parallel port for your printer? NO then disable this.
Do you use the GAME PORT? NO then disable this too.
    I have nothing sharing.
Do all of that then reinstall windows.
Then the first driver you install must be the VIA 4in1 drivers.
    See if that helps you.
ok, I did what you said with the serial and parrallel ports.  I dont see how disabling PNP aware OS would do anything, please explaine.
Here is my prob, I think.  When video and lan share and irq it can cause problems, this is what it looks like in system information when I have the onboard lan enabled.
IRQ 11   NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200    OK
IRQ 11   VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller   OK
IRQ 11   VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter   OK
I also dont know how re-installing wondows is going to help when at POST is shows them at IRQ11 also.  This is shown before the OS boots (second POST screen).  Please explaine this too.

  • ATI Radeon 2600 PROBLEM: First display wide and second not in mirror mode?

Hi all, I bought a new mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 2600, my problem is this: I have one LCD monitor widescreen 1680x1050 that i use like primary display and one normal CRT television 800x600 that i use like second monior... If i set the "mirror mode" on display the clone reduce automactly my LCD to not wide monitor and i see two black row... Is it possible use the mirror mode in two different monitor? it works only at 1024x768 not 1680x1050 is the video card not enough power? Should be fixed that thing ? Regards
    Message was edited by: egariM

You did not understand the true intent of mirror displaying, which adjusts to the lower specifications of the two screens. You would not like to see your CRT display have to accept high bandwith 1680x1050 signal and fry would you ?
Neither is the reduction of the content of a 1680x1050 screen to a 800x600 acceptable, and not only because of the width/height different ratios : text would be pure garbage, except in huge fonts.
So your mac pro adjusted the display to the 800x600 your crt can accept, as my macbook would when connecting to a video projector for presentation, when in mirror mode.
This is obviously the best choice it could have done, you see...
Now, if you want to keep best resolutions in both screen, then you have no other option than to use extended desktop.

  • KT4AV boot problems

I just bought an MSI KT4AV board to replace my old Asus (which was freezing after a little while of being on).  And now this board is having problems booting.  It freezes before ever loading windows.  It'll freeze in the BIOS, and in Windows Safe Mode (the farthest I've ever gotten it to go).  The thought was put to me that it might be a memory issue, but I simply have no idea, any thoughts.....this is VERY frustrating

  • KT4AV-L PROBLEMS !! with AMD Sempron 2400

Dearest friends, I've got a nasty problem with the brand new MSI KT4AV-L + SEMPRON 2400 just bought from my dealer.
The FSB clock can be set ONLY to 100MHz or the CMOS BIOS will NOT EVEN START !!!
When I put 133MHz or 166MHz (the correct one) into BIOS FSB settings ... the system won't boot, WON'T BOOT NOT EVEN the CMOS BIOS AMI (latest release available = 5.4 ) will boot.
This is VERY BAD AND VERY NASTY problem because the board is listed in the AMD recommended boards list and should have 0 problems while running the Sempron to its 1600MHz ... instead of the ACTUAL 1.000MHz I HAVE NOW !!!! and this turtle speed its making the whole system disappointing.
Anybody can help with this ?
What am I doing wrong ?
    Many thanks
    Seguace

oh my gosh! I can't believe! you have to be a kind of magician, your PSU it's the weakest that I ever seen!    5a it's extremely low! I don´t how did it works now, even at the lower speed, please try another PSU ASAP! at least 400 watts,   and on the 12v rail at least 18a (at least, I mean minimal).

  • Kt4av + 2500XP Problems

    Specs:
    All new stuff:
    MSI KT4AV-L
    2500 XP Barton
    512mb Corsair XM DDR400
Motherboard defaults to 100FSB, I change it to 166 (cause the board is suppose to be 333) and the system won't post.
It did post when I changed the multiplier to 12.5/13 and FSB of 150 however SiSandra and the FuzzyLogic software that comes with the motherboard are still reporting 11x multiplier and 100 fsb. Any mhz reading I get is around 1100.  If i change any of the FSB settings with FuzzyLogic, example from 100 to 101 and then click apply, the actual FSB speed right above the clock speed changes to like 140 or so and the CPU Speed jumps to 1400 or so, it doesn't agree with the settings, etc.
I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

  • KT4AV overclocking problems

I have been trying to get my fsb on my cpu up to 200mhz, i can increment it up to 184 with no probs. My problems start when i change the ram settings. I can run my ram fairly fast CL2 @ 333 and it can run at 400Mhz independantly from the fsb. I want to run the ram frequency at the same speed as the fsb, but it wont let me!?
Also, i heard that jumping the fsb upto 200 will not affect the agp timings as this is a KT400 board. So i jumped the fsb and ram frequencies upto 200 and it wont boot. Ive tried messing round with the ram, it works fine at 400 independantly from the fsb but they wont work synchronously!?
Ive also tried changing the voltage to the cpu but instead of readable figures i get a load of gibberish, completely illegible! Is this a bios problem? Should i re-flash?

I did hear about this, but i thought this board supported upto AMD3.2 400fsb cpu's? Were MSI lying to me?
    So if a stick a 3.2 in, it'll run at 333 instead of 400?
If so, what the **** was the point in putting an outrageous range of frequencies upto 280 when it can barely handle half that?
Doesnt seem right to me, thanks for your advice tho.

  • KT4AV-booting problems

When I set up the system with AMD 2500+ FSB333 CPU, Nvidia 64MB VGA card and a Kington 256MB DDR PC333 memory module. Without any drive.
When I start up the system, it always go into the bios even I did not press "Del" during booting.
Even I set some changes in the bios and I "save change and exit". after reboot it will still prompt me the bios screen again. Unless I quit without saving, then it will go into the system. But, when I switch off the system and restart. It will again prompt me the bios window.

Actually I'm running a networking. My server and sud station are using the same motherboard. But all are ahavimg the same problems where it always go into the setup whenever I swithch on or restart it. Unless I esc with saving then it by pass the "setup".

first of all, please give full system specs including PSU rails in the 12V, 3.3V and 5V.
Did you tried setting the FSB at 133MHz?
(to do this you need to enter your system BIOS).

It sounds like either your Power Supply not supplying the juice and/or 1 gig 2700 DDR Ram not being nForce Approved. (Please list the specs on both the RAM and the Power Supply.)
