KT4V and BIOS 1.9

Just flashed my KT4V-L to the new 1.9 bios without any problems.  I ran a few benchmarks on SANDRA as that is what I had handy(cpu arithmetic and MM, memory bandwidth, and cache and memory benchmark); I didn't see any real improvements (as expected).  I can't see any instability at the moment.  I haven't yet overclocked my cpu again to where it was, but I'll be sure to post again after I do.

Current FSB = 169.3
Multiplier = 10.5 (didn't want to bother with wire trick)
Total speed = 1778 mhz
Vcore = 1.81V
Idle temp = 43C from PC Alert 4 and FL4 (39C in BIOS)
I am stoked about this lowered Vcore.  With bios 1.8, I had to run at 1.85 for it to be stable; at 1.825, it was stable for about 30 minutes and then rebooted.  With 1.9, I have been running at 1.80V (1.81 actually, so says FL4) for 45 minutes.  I played about 30 minutes of CS, and since then I have been listening to music (something that didn't fly for very long at this voltage with bios 1.8 ) while checking email, IMing, and posting here at the forum.  Since the Vcore is lower, and along with the CPU Temp Detection modification of bios 1.9, my temp is way down at this overclocked speed.
45 minutes is not very long, so this isn't definitive at all.  However, it is longer than was possible with bios 1.8 at 1.81V.
Hooray so far...

    Hmmmm
I´ve changed from my VIA KT3 ultra 2 to a KT4V motherboard with the v1.9 patch. The problem is when i boot my computer the BIOS displays AMD XP 1100 MHz and DRAM freq 200 MHz !!!
I´ve changed the DRAM current host clock to 333 MHz and my CPU FSB to 166 MHz in BIOS. Everytime I restart my computer, BIOS seems to reset to this stupid default values... (1100MHz and 200MHz). I´ve also tried different PC-2700 DDR.
I´ve tried to set all Memory and CPU-values to auto in BIOS, the result is the same
    Please can anyone help me??

  • Problems with KT4V and AtiRadeon 9700 Pro...

    Hi all,
I have lots of problems with my current configuration with games (lock ups) and even in normal use. Also I'm not able to run 3DMark through to see with kind of results would I get. Car chase (high) gets very low fps and the nature test doesn't even work. I have tried different 4in1 drivers and BIOS versions. With 1.6 BIOS version I had lots of CRC errors (should be corrected in BIOS ver. 1.7 but in expense of data rate?).  Does anyone have any suggestions so that I could for example go through the 3DMark even with the expense of performance?
I had those game lock up problems also earlier with KT7A-100 RAID + AtiRadeon 64 (3DMark worked) so I bought new graphic card (didn't help) and after that I bought the new mobo. I know my config is not the best in the world, but I think it should be enough to give some happy moments in ever so demanding games... for a while...
There is also one thing that is quite strange. In my display adapters there is two drivers for AtiRadeon (primary in AGP and secondary in PCI)? I'm not expert, but isn't that weird? I have tried installing different drivers again and again (also reinstalled OS) with no luck! Trying to delete the secondary one doesn't help...

  • KT4V and KT4Ultra problems: IRQ, Password, TV Tuner

    Heya!
I just purchaced new KT4V board and now I'm experiencing quite a few troubles. Before that I had K7T266a Pro2 board with which I was very setisfied and all the features that I will mention here that does not work with KT4 but on older MSI board worked without a problem.
    1st problem:
I'm unable to force IRQ for PCI slots. I manualy select which IRQ will PCI slot take but that is not accepted. IRQs are allways assigned automaticaly.
    2nd problem:
Wake Up with specific key, password and mouse is not working. I also updated to new bios for that board and that does not help to solve the issue
    3rd problem:
ATI TV Wonder is not presenting any picture. Neither under Windows 98SE, neither under Windows XP. There is a black picture when I start ATI TV Wonder but I can hear a sound. (My friend also has this issue on KT4 Ultra board)
Changing the board back to K7T266a Pro2. All is working well!
Does any of you have some of this issues with KT4 boards? Help is appreciated!
    Ciao, Davor.

    Maesus!
First thank you for envestigating at MSI and confirmation that Wake Up with password was removed. Yes I know that S3 means. It means wake up from the sleep mode. But I think that also there is not working as It is should. I tried to set the Wake up password and i put my computer to sleep mode but I could wake it up prassing any key or moving mouse (typing a password did not worked) I had an option Wake up with password in my bios!
So what I tried already. First I will have to explain that I used Windows 98SE (old installation - Installation that I already used with K7T266a Pro2) and Windows XP SP1 (fresh installation) on second partition.
    1. I did a fresh install of the Windows XP on a second partition and only Graphics drivers for Radeon 8500 and ATI TV Tuner.
    2. Did not tried that yet
    3. Will have to play a bit with this. I tried only two values 64 and 128Mb
    4. I had via 4in1 4.43 under Windows 98se; under Windows XP SP1 I did not load any new Via 4in1 drivers
Will have to try with this latecy patch at my friend.
    5. I disabled APIC (but will try that once again to be sure)
    6. I did tried with minimal hardware installation. Only Radeon 8500 and ATI TV Tuner (I tried different slots)
    7.  Did not tried with different PSU. My friend has more powerful PSU than I and experiencing same problem. I think PSU is not an issue coz KT4 board was very stable in all other applications (especialy games, 3DMark2001) no crashes, runing great.
    8. Tried with Windows 98SE and Windows XP. I tried also with ATI Multimedia Center 7.1 and 7.6 beta. Neither worked. Just a black picture, channels are found, I can hear the sound
    9. I tried with different mother board. Im back with MSI K7T266a Pro2 and ATI TV Wonder PCI is working wonderful. I can assing IRQs manualy and I can wake up my machine with password - I like this feature.
    10. I put msg also to Rage3D forum asking users if anyone has this sort of configuration MSI K4T and ATI TV Tuner. I found out that direct support is sometimes less efficent. So I like to ask directly from the first hand - users.
Will have to try all that your new propositions at my friend house who has KT4 Ultra and ATI TV Tuner PCI (I already sold my KT4V and I'm back at K7T266a Pro2 till I discover all the solutions for the problems.
    Tnx for now Maesus!

  • KT4V and Enermax fan at SFAN connector

I have a KT4V MoBo with a temperature running a bit high so I decided to add a fan at the SFAN connector. I connected an Enermax fan, UC-8FAB-B (with manual adjustable speed), to the SFAN connector. The system run for some seconds, then stopped. When I tried to reboot, it all stopped at 3 red LED and one green LED on at the D-Bracket with 3 beeps. This indicates a memory error. Unable to get the system to boot.
I tried with the fan directly to the PSU and the fan itself worked ok. (Even at the SFAN connector eventually) but the system do not reboot at all.
I have measured all voltages at the ATX power connector and they are ok. I have tested the RAM in a different system and it is ok. Do the fan have a current rating to high, destroying something such as the voltage supply to the RAM ?

Regarding the high temperature on the CPU (max 64 degrees C) I tried to remount the CPU fan with Arctic Silver Thermal Compound with the same result.
Regarding the SFAN header: the current of the fan might have blown something on the motherboard. I should like to have the specification of the system SFAN output as to max current rating, as to avoid destroying something in the future (should be in the user manual).
I should also like to know how and wher the voltage to the DDR RAM (2.5 V) is generated. (Could be a fault here).
I have returned the KT4V to the seller waiting for an answer to RMA..... ?(

  • K9N Platinum and BIOS flashing

New to MSI and this forum
I have a K9N Platinum which I've had some problems with and also need to flash the BIOS.
Problems are: Leadtek TV tuner card video problem watching TV (image and sound freezing) then my laser printer would not print through the parrallel port (works okay through a USB port).
Have had no real solutions from MSI with those two problems
Just recently I've come into owning a MSI 7950 GX2 video card.
Apparently this card won't work with the K9N unless I flash upgrade the BIOS (using A7250NMS, V1.20)
I know my way around computer hardware but BIOS flashing I've never done.
    I'm using a NTFS file system,OS is WINXP SP1, processor AMD64 4800+ and HDD Hitachi 250GB SATA2
I have two choices to use these brand new video card:
1: Try to flash the BIOS (with the obvious risks involved)
2: Replace the K9N board with one that is compatible with the 7950 (bearing in mind the other problems with the K9N)
I've read artcles from this site and MSI about flashing using a NTFS file system and I'm not confident.
I know this post is between BIOS and motherboards so it was hard to decide where to place it.
If anyone has any thoughts on the best solution for this it would be appreciated

First of all , make sure you have a "fixedup" motherboard .
( the capacitor fix , see info in the "Post your K9N Ultra/Platinum (non SLI) 'Power Off' Issues Here (NForce 570 MCP)" thread)
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=99924.0
Flash bios doesn't need to be done from HD .
You can have both afudos flash util and bios image file on a msdos bootable floppy diskette (verify it from windows with chkdsk A: /R )

  • CD/DVD drive it's not supported by Windows XP and Bios

    I've bought a new cd/dvd drive Mat****a Panasonic.
It only work on Windows 2000, it's not supported by Windows XP and Bios, so i can't boot with.

Could you please provide some information (name) about you notebook?
Did you bought this drive or was this drive delivered with the notebook?
If the drive cannot berecognised by BIOS then in my opinion the drive supports wrong master / slave / c-sel settings.
You should know that not all drives are compatible.
The settings cannot be changed because the drive dose not supports any jumpers but only the firmware.

  • KT4V and KT4A-V differences....

Hello, I had a kt4v and just finished setting up harddrive the way I wanted it, then had problems and had to get another. Well, I got a kt4a-v instead, thought they were exactly same but one of the chipsets are different(VT 8237 on KT4A-V and VT 8235 on KT4V). I was wondering if I'll have to format and reinstall or can I use the harddrive with the KT4V info on it? Thanks

Thanks, you were right, drivers cover both vt 8235 and vt 8237 chipsets.

  • GE60 2OE Firmware and BIOS

    Hi
I don't know how to check my GE60 Firmware and BIOS. Can someone tell me how to check? Also if they are not updated, how to update them?

Hit F2 (I believe that's the button, maybe it's F10 or DEL, can't really remember) to get into the BIOS. Inside the bios there is a screen that will show the BIOS version and EC version as well. Again, not exactly sure, but it's in there somewhere.

  • Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Hello, I have updatet BIOS of my notebook sattelite A100.
After updating I cannot start my notebook and BIOS doesn't start.

Hey guys... I tried to update my girlfriend's BIOS on a A100 just now (the windows installer) and the procedure stoped in the middle because windows crashed while doing. Now the laptop won't start at all (obviously). I have a black screen when turning it on. No boot sounds or anything. I've already removed the AC power source and battery in case that works. I guess removing the BIOS battery won't help either since the flashing was wrong... In case that doesn't work, is there any chance i could find a BIOS from ebay or somewhere else?
    Thx in advance, Jimmy..
PS. My gf is going to shoot my brains out :P

  • I have a KT4V and would like to install ati 9600XT. Do I need to upgrade BIOS?

I have a KT4V (MS6712) running version 1.0 BIOS (never updated).  I tried an ATI Radeon 9600XT a couple of days ago. The system and display went nuts.  I figured the card was DOA, but I have since reaad on this board that a newer version of the BIOS was to fix the ATI 9600 problem.  Should I try to update my BIOS to run this card since I need to update my system.
