KT4V / Athlon 2400 Clock Speed Problem

Hi,
I have recently built a system with the following specs:
Mobo: MSI  KT4V-L Ultra
CPU: Athlon XP 2400
Memory: 512 DDR (2700)
Vidieo: Geforce Mx440
PSU: 350 W
OS: Windows 98 SE
CPU Temp: 41 Idle
     49 Under Load
I booted up the system and the bios recognised the cpu as an athlon xp 1800. It booted into windows and windows also detected it as an 1800 (and no this wasn't the clock speed..) I ran MSI Fuzzy Logic 4
and that detected fsb as 100 and Multiplier as 15.
I initially tried to up the fsb but that was causing the pc to hang as soon as it went much over 110. I was a little confused by now as I thought an athlon 2400 XP
should run with Multiplier of 15 and fsb of 133 giving ~2000 Mhz. I went into the bios and changed the multiplier from Auto to fixed 13.5, leaving the fsb at 100.
When I rebooted the BIOS detected the chip as 2400 XP. Windows also confirms this, Fuzzy logic 4 states the Multiplier is 20 and the chip is running at 2000 Mhz. I couldn't quite understand this so I ran WCPUID which also confirmed an Internal Clock speed of 2000Mhz.
This has all confused me a little - can anyone explain this? I thought the Multiplier on Athlon XP's was locked... and how did it get to 20!! Or is my CPU not really running at that speed?? The Realtime Clock
Count in WCPUID was also measuring at 2000 Mhz.
As already stated I can't get the fsb over 115 without the pc hanging....
( All other settings in the BIOS are as default )
Thanks for your time.

Hi there,
I have a similar problem, except on a KT3 Ultra2-R running an Athlon XP2100.
To make a long story short, awhile ago I tried to optimized my CMOS settings, and the thing wouldn't boot...and when I could get into CMOS settings again, the dang thing wouldn't let me change the FSB at all, and I was stuck at 100 FSB, and my XP2100 was recognized as an XP1500 (I guess 100 x 13 = 1.300 gigahertz).
After reading your post here, I changed the CPU ratio to be 12.5/13, and lo and behold, when I got into Fuzzy Logic, my CPU was registering 2.000 gigs with a 20 CPU multiplier and my CPU was now an Athlon XP2400! I don't know where they got that 20 CPU X from, but I ran a test on Sysandra, and yep, Sysandra says it's an XP2400 and the test benchmark puts it around that level.
So...my XP2100 is now seemingly an XP2400, but my FSB is still a paltry 100FSB...this seems to affect memory benchmark testing, as my DDR333 RAM is auto sync with the 100FSB :(
Anyway, any of you guys run into stability problems? I just ordered an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard before I found this thread, so wondering if I should return it!
Thanks.

  • Athalon XP clock speed problem

I hav just installed a K7N2 Delta Mobo in my system, but I'm having CPU clock speed problems.
The Bios and the Infoview program both state that the CPU clock is running at 1105 Mhz. I am sure this should be 1533 Mhz for an 1800xp.
I updated the bios using MSI live update, and the first time I booted the system, the bios displayed the speed as 1533 Mhz, but on every subsequent boot up it is back down to 1105 Mhz again.
How can I get my processor to run at the correct speed?
    Thanks

  • AMD Athlon 2400+ core speed

I have recently purchased a new MSI KT4 Ultra (FISR)
MS-6590 motherboard and an AMD Athlon 2400+ processor.
However the motherboard is only picking up the processor to be an AMD Athlon 1800+. When I go into the bios and look at the CPU core speed it is set to 100Mhz when it should be 133Mhz. I would change this value but it is disabled (greyed out). How can I set my motherboard to use the processor correctly asa 2400+ ?
    Thanks

Hi, i have similer problem, i have the same MB and chip the 2400xp and when i put it on 133mhz and 15x multi which is stated on the MSI website and save it in the bios, my monitor light flashes, its like my graphics card is not working, but i can hear my pc booting up, but i just can't see anything, i have updated my graphics card drivers and the bios for the MB but still no luck, i have to clear the cmos to get my monitor back but then the chip speed is back to 1800.
i have a ti4200 8x agp card and i am a little miffed as i didn't buy a 2gig chip to have it running at 1.6gig, does anyone have any idea.

  • Gtx 980 MSi Gaming App Clock speed problem

Hello guys, I've a problem with my GPU's clock speed.
I've MSI Z97-Gaming 5 motherboard, and MSI gtx 980 4g twinfrozr so both of this hardware uses the MSI gaming APP.
But the thing is when i pick Gaming Mode or OC Mode it works well for my CPU BUT! not for my GPU, it always at 962Mhz it barely goes to 1190 and comes right back.
When i check the site it says:
1216MHz Core (Boost Clock:1317MHz) (OC Mode)
1190MHz Core (Boost Clock:1291MHz) (Gaming Mode)
1127MHz Core (Boost Clock:1216MHz) (Silent Mode)
you can see the actual core speeds but 962 mhz is not even there ?
if anybody has an idea I'd really appreciate that.

OK the problem was solved by loading an older version of the MSI gaming App from the Dvd . Now it is selected as " let the 3d app decide " at the nvidia control panel, and when im in game it goes up to 1368 Mhz and when im on desktop it goes down to 135 Mhz .

  • Clock speed problem with MSI K8M Neo-V

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie on all this tasks of mounting my own PC, so I'm very sorry if my question is stupid and is already answered in the forum (I didn't find it).
    I have the following components:
    - MSI K8M Neo-V
    - 2 SATA HD 160 Gb
    - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
    - 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
My problem is that I cannot get my AMD 3200 to run at 3200 Mhz. What I
    only get is:
    - CPU ratio x11
    - CPU FSB clock 210
    - Dynamic overclocking colonel (my BIOS doesn't have general or
    commander, as shown in manual)
That makes a total of 2.31 Mhz, far away from the 3.2 desired.
If I try to change this values to others higher (such as FSB 230), I get a black screen
and I need to reset BIOS.
Please, could you help me solve this situation? I find it really
disturbing to have bought a new AMD 64 3200 with a good motherboard,
and not being able to make it run at the appropiate speed.
Thank you very much in advance.

3.2GHz.  Wow.  I would kill to have an A64 at that speed.  :D

AMD's don't run at the speed they have listed on the CPU, rather that is a performance equivalent number. In this instance your CPU has the equivalent performance of an Intel that runs at 3200Mhz.
Actually I believe the Performance number equivalent to the MHz an AMD Thunderbird would be at, NOT an Intel CPU.

  • MSI KT6-Delta-SR + Athlon 2400+ (266) Problem

    Hey Guys,
    I have a problem with the MSI KT6-Delta-SR and Athlon 2400+ (266).
I've tried about 6 different boards and 6 different athlon 2400+ (266fsb) and what happens is randomly when you turn the computer on the processor is displayed as an athlon 2000+ or athlon 1700+ (using different ram and other components too).
I check in bios and the fsb is still set to 133 (which should be correct for a 266fsb athlonXP).
Running latest bios for the board (v. 5.5) and have tried previous bios revisions.
Anyone come across this? is this an incompatability with the KT6-Delta-SR  and 266fsb athlons?
could it be a v.core issue? (what should the v.core b for athlon 2400+ (266)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Borjo jnc, aopen, gtr 350watt psu. it's not a psu problem.
    yes 2 problems.
    1. incorrect cpu recognition
and  2. random restart before xp loads.
after random restart cpu is recognised as either athlon 2000+ or athlon 1700+
this occurs sometimes before detecting hard drive, but mainly when second bar of windows xp pro loads (running xp pro +sp1 Plus latest updates and drivers. and regardless of what bios revision i'm using.
Tyco cpu id software says athlon2400+ and correct specs when booting properly. if i look at the top of the cpu is says athlon2400+

I have the KT4V-L, with onboard 10/100 LAN m/board with an Athlon 2400+ xp fitted. When my system boots up it shows that only an 1800 xp is installed, can anyone help with the correct settings to enable me to get the full speeed from my processor.

I'm using a KT4VL with a XP2400+ T'bred and PC2700 ram and don't have a problem, the only differance in my system is my PSU is a Hiper 420w unit from HI-Performance PC ltd these PSU's are equal to Enermax in quality and alot cheaper, from the fact your system boot's at 100mhz it suggest's that it's your power supply causing the problem.
Try and see if it works with a 400w+ PSU.

  • No MSI info and MSI clock speed flags in display properties

My problem is really curious. Several days ago I bought new harddrive and made clear instalation of Win98 SE. After that I installed VIA 4 in 1, on-board audio drivers, the new DirectX and then DetonatorXP drivers for my G4 Ti 4600. My problem is that in display properties I miss two flags descrabing my nVidia card - MSI information and MSI clock. System has detected card correctly. In advanced display properties I can adjust OpenGL and Direct 3D settings, AA settings, etc.
My system is stable in every game and benchmarks, so it means that card works correctly. Powerstrip detects core and memory speeds correctly, under adapter options in this program I see 128 MB video memory, AGP 4x enabled, fastwrites enabled - everything is correct.
But in display properties I do not see MSI information and MSI clock speed flags. Why ??? I have also reinstalled VIA 4 in 1 and Detonator XP drivers - it did not help.
Before byuing my new harddrive (80 GB Seagate,7200rpm) I had 30 GB IBM,5400rpm. Windows 98 SE installed on this harddrive detects card correctly too including MSI information and MSI clock speed flags. Now I miss it. Any idea ???
On both harddrives I have installed DetonatorXP 29.42 then I have updated to 30.82
    My system:
    MSI K7T Turbo 6330 3.0
    1,33 GHz Athlon T-bird
    512 MBRAM
    G4 Ti 4600
    80 GB Seagate BarracudaIV 7200rpm
    Win98 SE

I installed the MSI Drivers from the MSI cd. All ok but the clock and info tabs were missing. I upgraded the driver from msi site to 3000 and no tabs.
     X(
Before the GF4 i had a gf2 and i realized i forgot to uninstall the nvidia drivers before installing the new card's drivers. I uninstalled them and reinstalled the msi driver 3000. But no clock nor info tabs.
Can someone help me? Are those tabs needed?
I'm using xp pro, intel p4 1.8 on motherboard intel d850md, 1gb ram.
Also the 3d turbo experience gives me msivga.ocx initialization error.
    Thanxs.

  • Amd athlon xp 2200 @ 1800 problem

i own a perfectly msi k7n2 board whit 512mb kingston pc333. Is this very fast.
My problem is that the mainboard and windows xp tell me that the proccessor is an xp 1800 but is is not !!!!
    It is a 2200 xp.
What does i do wrong ?
my fsb =133 and the rest is standard.
    please advice.
I am very experienced but this wann is hard.
thanks in advanced please help me out !

unless you are mistaking the MHZ of your processor for the PR rating that AMD came up with, there is no way for an Athlon 2200+@1800 MHZ to turn into a 1800+@ 1.53 MHZ unless the multiplier is changed.
So it seems to me either someone sold you the wrong processor or you mistook the PR+ rating for the actual megahertz of the processor.  The Pr rating is based on how the chip performs compared to a 1400 megahertz thunderbird.  Thus a 1500+ chip (which runs at 1333 megahertz) is faster when compared to the 1400 megahertz thunderbird even though its clock speed (Megahertz ) is slower.
An athlon 2200+ runs at 1800 megahertz, but when compared to an earlier athlon it is as fast as an old t'bird would be a 2200 megahertz.  Confused yet?
I never thought I would say it but explaining this makes me hate AMD.

I received today my memory: 2*512mb mushkins PC3200 400mhz...here is the problem:
everytime I boot up I receive a post saying: 333mhz. I ran sysmark: 200mhz*2, I ran cpu-z: 200mhz*2 and ran another tool saying I have to ddrs at 200mhz. but whenever I boot I receive the message 333mhz and whenever I run those tools I see detected 333mhz but when looking on them appart: the proggies mention the 200mhz.
I tried the latencies down to 2.5-3-3 but problem stil remains.

  • Won't detect full memory clock speed on DiMM 3-4

Hey guyz... got a little bit of a strange situation with my MSI K8N-F PCB 1.0 systemboard hope you can share you're knowledge on this...
I got a 2x256MB VR Kingston DDR400 Single sided ram that I installed on DiMM 1-2 and was able to read the memory clock around 200Mhz, but when I transfered the two memories on DiMM 3-4 it only reads them 185Mhz on the BIOS and which confuses me. when I checked the manual it doesn't suppose to lessen the clock speed total to 333Mhz but still should come up to 400Mhz can anyone help me with this?!?! appreciate the feedback....

try reseting the BIOS by taking out the battery for 10 minutes. try running it again at optimized defaults (that means no overclocking) in slots 3&4.

  • MSI 6600GT AGP standard clock speeds?

Ok, I got coolbits installed. Opening the tab for the first time, The "no overclocking" button is selected,  2D is selected along with core clock set at 300 and memory clock at 900. I DO NOT have the "apply these settings at startup" selected yet.
I cannot find anywhere in the owners manual what the standard core and memory clock settings are supposed to be for thing. Can anyone tell me?

    Thanks Richard, I'll try those.
Ok, just a sec, the core is 500. The ram on it is DDR. When you say 1000 for the ram clock speed that means I actually set the clock speed to 500, right? Setting it to 1000, because of DDR, would actually make the speed 2000. Is this right? Or does the actual setting slider not take into account the DDR(2x)?
You set the number to 2 times the memory clock speed. If you bring down the menu to 3D, it should be 900Mhz which is the default for the MSI. If you were to overclock it you would set it to 1Ghz, which is 100Mhz higher. The MSI card should be able to handle that with no problems. The memory is rated for 1Ghz. Once your start going over 1Ghz your starting to really overclock the memory. Most of the MSI cards should be able to do at least 1.1Ghz.
I have had two MSI 6600GT cards. The first card could do 1.17 on the memory stable. The second card can do only around 1.14.

  • M30 Centrino clock speed

I have a Satellite Pro M30 notebook and whenever i check the system information, it shows that the clock speed is at 598MHz, whereas the processor should run a 1.5GHz. I have tried using the "always high" option from the BIOS, but that does not change the freqency at all. the notebook is substantailly slower than it would be and it has been like this since i purchased it.
What can I do to fix this problem?
    Thank you for your help

Did you buy a new one or already used Notebook?
I ask you this because CPU speed is absolutely too low. It can happen after changing of motherboard because in this case it is necessary to update a special firmware to get the full CPU-speed.
Without this firmware the machine runs at a fixed speed around 600MHz. The best solution is to get in contact with the Toshiba Service partner and ask them if they can check motherboard.

    Greetings from the Netherlands,
I'm the proud owner of an NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC for a month now.
On Windows XP Pro I had no problemens I had no problems overclocking this VGA card.
But now I switched to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and my clock speeds disappeared.
GPU-Z, Rivatuner, Powerstrip, ATITool and even the overclocking module from MSI itself doesn't see any clock speeds.
I've tested with the 169.25 drivers from the Nvidia website and the 169.02 drivers from the MSI website.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Sorry i linked to the wrong one 174.74, use those 174.74 instead {which basically is the same , except supported VGA's}
