Kt4v-L and amd athlon xp 2200+ issue.

Hey all,
I'm new to the boards here and am in complete desperation.
I just received my new AthlonXP 2200+ in the mail and went to put it in.  I had some minor issues with CPU acknowledgement (reporting it as a 1500+)  so I flashed to version 1.8 of the KT4V mainboard bios.  After the flash was completed (done with livebios btw) My system will no longer boot into Windows.  It WILL boot into safe mode, but as far as actual fully functional windows, it stalls just before the windows logo shows during the loading screen, kind of like a transparent image.
I'm not really all that proficient in all the computer lingo..so i may leave something out,if so please let me know and ill dig up the needed info. But this is my system setup:
Mainboard:  MSI Kt4V-L  Bios version 1.8
Cpu:        AMD Athlon XP 2200+
Power:      Alliance 450W
Video:      Visiontek GeForce 3 TI500
Sound:      Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer
Ram:        Samsung 512 DDR400
Hard Drive: Western Digital 10 gigabyte
CD-RW:      Sony
CD-ROM:     Creative labs
Lan:        Onboard
If anyone has any idea what my problem might be, and any possible way to remedy this situation, It would be greatly appreciated  :D

Alright... I think your FSB is set wrong.  MSI says that a 100mhz FSB is incompatible with DDR400 memory, so that probably explains your windows boot problem.  To check that, enter the bios when you turn your computer on and go to "Frequency and Voltage" (press delete to enter the bios).  Set the front side bus to 133mhz.  That is most likely the problem since a 2200+ has a 13.5 multiplier, and 13.5 *100 = 1350mhz, which is about the same speed as a 1500+.  Also, check to make sure your RAM speed is set to auto.  I think that option is found under Advanced chipset options (it's the third one on the left).  Post back if that works or not.

Ive got a KT4V motherboard with a Geforce MX 440 Graphics card, 512DDR PC2100 Ram and an AMD Athlon Xp 2400+ Cpu. I was wondering wether anyone could tell me anything i could do to make my system run that bit faster without overclocking.
Im gonna get a new case soon with a better power supply and cooling so im glad to hear any suggestion for overclockin as well. Its not gonna be watercooled or anything like that so i cant go extreme with the fsb and stuff.

problem is your ram, your best o/c is lower multiplier, read the wire trick thread as you need that and then run it at 166 fsb or a bit more
but chances are at 166 your rams not going to boot being only pc 2100
so leave it be as far as multiplier and raise fsb a bit at a time
due to the multiplier bit your chipset uses at around mid 140 fsb it will not boot as agp and pci will be out of specs to much

  • OCI 9.0.1 and AMD Athlon Processor

    Hello,
I have a client who is using an Oracle 8.1.7 server and is connecting from workstations running OCI 9.0.1 (the 9i R1 client). This is working fine except for on one workstation. The only known difference with this machine is that it is using an AMD Athlon processor (all the others are Intel processors).
The behavior appears to be that for floating point numbers, Oracle/OCI is telling our product that the numbers are integer numbers (no decimals). Thus, my application is not displaying the decimal places (since it is being told there are none).
    All other workstations work fine.
Any ideas? I am wondering if there is a known issue with the AMD Athlon processor and the oracle 9.0.1 client...? I am attempting to convince the user to try the 9.0.2 client, but I don't want to waste his time.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Rob

    Thanks Adrian.
I'll try to get him to run a straight select, but I don't even know if they installed SQL-Plus on the machine. He hasn't exactly been cooperative (I've asked him to check other areas of my application and he doesn't) so I don't know what he will do.
As for the sqlnet.ora file, I am not sure what to look for in there...? or do you suggest blowing it away and starting over?
    Thanks again,

  • MSI KT4 ultra and AMD ATHLON 2600+ and Corsair 512Mb 3200

    Hello,
    i've bought a: MSI KT4 ULTRA and a AMD ATHLON 2600+
Today, i've updated the bios to the version 1.3! So: no problem to reboot after the process complete.
BUT, now i can't set the CPU at 2.16Ghz (280Mhz clock) because if i set the clock up to 100Mhz it doesn't reboot anymore! the motherboard detect the frequency @ 1250 Mhz :(((
    Please: HELP ME
(sorry for the grammar and / the english) but i'm a french guy.

    Hi,
I had the same issues, see the thread:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=11717&boardid=13&styleid=1
Essentially I had to set (in the BIOS) the FSB to 166 and left the Multiplier on auto.  This ment the processor was reported properly as 2600+, but the memory will only run at 333 MHz...  Yeah I think I wasted the money on getting the latest and greatest memory too....
Had me worried for a while, I though my supplier had palmed a bad chip off on me....  It just that the board can't do the highest speed chips and the highest speed memory at the same time (it states that that is unsupported in the manual...)
    hope the helps...

I was looking for a 125watt board too and its really hard to find one from MSI that have the things I want, I cant even find a board with Nvidia chipset, amd2+ and support a 125 watt processor (or not tested OK yet) or some boards without a cpu support list yet. So no AM2+ for you if you want a 125watt processor on it and a nvidia chipset. is there any reason why MSI cant fix 125watt support?
If you dont care about a future quadcores upgrade you can buy a old AM2 board, but dont forgot to look at the cpu support list, because the most AM2 boards doesnt support 125watt either.  ???

That is not true, 125W support usually have high end mainboards.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 Board hangs with Mother board ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and AMD Athlon 3000+

    Hello Folks,
Please, I need your Help !!!
I bought a new FX5900XT-VTD128 Board and I am trying to install it in my new PC and it hangs the PC. It has just frozen it and I can not access neither the Bios or anything else. If I use my old Nvidia 4, everything works fine. My Mother board is a ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and Monitor is a LG Flatron 17" Model: T710SH. The Bios of my PC is the last version liberated by ASUS version 1012 E. My Processor is an AMD Athlon 3000+ DDR 400 - The PC has 1GBDRAM (DDR - 400).
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Mario

    Hi Kingfisher,
    Thanks for your help.
But the Video Cards hangs in the Boot moment, before MS Windows XP comes in and the driver begins to act. My concern is a hardware conflict or a incompatibility or even hardware defect.
What kind of troubleshooting is ideal ?
    Regards,

  • Amd athlon xp 2200 @ 1800 problem

i own a perfectly msi k7n2 board whit 512mb kingston pc333. Is this very fast.
My problem is that the mainboard and windows xp tell me that the proccessor is an xp 1800 but is is not !!!!
    It is a 2200 xp.
What does i do wrong ?
my fsb =133 and the rest is standard.
    please advice.
I am very experienced but this wann is hard.
thanks in advanced please help me out !

unless you are mistaking the MHZ of your processor for the PR rating that AMD came up with, there is no way for an Athlon 2200+@1800 MHZ to turn into a 1800+@ 1.53 MHZ unless the multiplier is changed.
So it seems to me either someone sold you the wrong processor or you mistook the PR+ rating for the actual megahertz of the processor.  The Pr rating is based on how the chip performs compared to a 1400 megahertz thunderbird.  Thus a 1500+ chip (which runs at 1333 megahertz) is faster when compared to the 1400 megahertz thunderbird even though its clock speed (Megahertz ) is slower.
An athlon 2200+ runs at 1800 megahertz, but when compared to an earlier athlon it is as fast as an old t'bird would be a 2200 megahertz.  Confused yet?
I never thought I would say it but explaining this makes me hate AMD.

  • KT880 Delta and Amd Athlon XP Mobile

Does KT880 Delta will work with Athlon XP Mobile? PowerNow! features will work?
    (AMI bios)

ordinary desktop boards won't support changing multiplier on the fly. only laptop mobos do this. mobile athlons XPs are only popular with overclockers, because of the unlocked multiplier in BIOS. not all mobos support Mobile Athlons though, some modifications may need to be done
however, the Athlon64 cpu's and mobos have "Cool n Quiet" technology, which follows the laptop PowerNow! feature, so when cpu is not heavily worked, the clock speed drops to 800mhz, allowing the CPU to run cooler and allows thermal controlled fans to operate slower   i think this would suit you better

  • KT4V wont recognise amd 2700+???

    Hi all,
I have just purchased an KT4V motherboard and amd 2700+ but when i boot up it only recognises an amd 1500+?
Can any one tell me how to sort this please?
    Cheers in advance!
    Dave

Your DDR memory is rated at 266mhz (PC2100) and you are trying to raise it to 333mhz (PC2700). You are actually overclocking your memory when you are raising the frequency to 166. You can try to add some Voltage to your memory (Vdimm).
I don't recommend and wont guarantee stability.

  • Windows 8 64bit not compatible w/ AMD Athlon 64 processor and/or ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard.

Why should I have to go through a plethora of troubleshooting techniques, then have to settle for using the Windows 8/ 32bit install CD, when I have a 64bit system?  I think it's probably something in the Windows
8 /64bit code that causes it to fail install w/ AMD Athlon 64bit processor, and/or my ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard.  After a lot of hassle I tried the Windows 8 /32bit CD and that seems to work fine.  My real question is, why should I have to settle
    for 32bit on a 64bit system?

I had the same experience trying to install Window 8 Pro 64bit (Build 9200) on an old XP SP3 32bit system, but I somehow got it working; the full story.
I had two XP Sp3 32 bit systems I wanted to upgrade to Window 8 Pro 64 bit (with the $40 upgrade deal available now). System#1 is: I7 920/Asus P6T deluxe/EVGA 560Ti/3GB/1 TB SATA 300 drive/1.44 Floppy/ 12X Bluray burner (pulled the old TV tuner card for
upgrade-incompatible). I ran the Windows 8 upgrade advisor - very few issues (TV Tuner card as mentioned and other software) - bought the upgrade. Downloaded the upgrade from my Win7Pro 64bit system to obtain the 64bit ISO (2.69GB) - burned to DVD. Installed
from DVD; no problems, finished in under 20 minutes - working great (really fast boot!).
System#2 is: Opteron 180/Asus A8N-E/EVGA 275GTX/2GB/1 TB SATA 300 drive/ 1.44 Floppy/ 16X DVD RW burner; the Windows 8 upgrade advisor - more incompatible software than system#1, but no incompatible hardware. I had read a number of blogs concerning the issues
others were having with the upgrade failing, so before I purchased, I thought I would run the 64bit install DVD I had (known to work on the other system) to see if it worked. I should note this system was not-in-use and thus I was not worried if the install
failed (I'd just be annoyed!). Ran the install from the DVD; initial splash screen - no spinning dots - waited 15 minutes (by which time no activity on DVD or hard drive) - failure. Rebooted - entered bios (1010) - tried many combinations of settings up to
disabling nearly everything (NVRAID, Legacy USB, Floppy, Audio97- all disabled / moved SATA into every slot (1-4) / tried SATA 150 and SATA 300 (SATA2, slots 3-4) - no change - failure X4 attempts. Now original XP3 installation is corrupted (GRRRR!) - I should
have imaged the drive BEFORE - oh well. Read more about others experience with this seemingly NForce board-related issue. Plan B - I will try install with an IDE (PATA) hard drive (80GB) - failure. Read more - some mention Window 8 installer not "liking" XP
    partitions / disks (???); Plan C - Re-partition / format / check 80 GB IDE drive with WDTools - attempted Win8Pro install - failure. Dejected; last attempt before considering Win8Pro 32bit - Plan D - Re-partition / format / check 1 TB SATA 300 drive with SeaTools
(Barracuda 32GB buffer-7200rpm) - run Win8PRO 64bit install from DVD (build 9200) - success! Install took nearly an hour, with 3 reboots to the finish. Specifics (install configuration): 1 TB SATA drive in Slot 4 (SATA2), upgraded memory to 4GB Corsair PC3200
(4 slots filled), Two DVD drives on Primary IDE channel (master and slave), secondary IDE channel - no devices, bios (1010) - NVRAID, Audio97,1394 port,LAN -disabled; USB 2.0, USB Legacy, Floppy - enabled, IDE-Auto), TrendNet USB wireless adapter on USB slot
2 (motherboard), EVGA 275GTX in PCIe slot 1, no other cards. System seems to be performing well (fast boot times, no hangs), but as noted, no sound (I actually forgot to re-enable the Audio97 device in bios; it was 2am). I will see if I can get the Audio97
enabled today; my backup is to add a Turtle Beach Montego DDL PCI card (with the Windows7 64bit driver and run in compatiblity mode). Hope this saga might help some others out - good luck.

  • K7t Turbo2 and an AMD Athlon XP 2600+

I recently flashed the BIOS on my K7t Turbo2 board to the 3.6 version which supports AMD Athlon XP processors up to 2600+.  However, after I installed the new cpu, set the core voltage to 1.65, the multiplier to 11.5 and the DCM value to 166 the computer would not boot.  Instead I received a simple "Beep" then two to three seconds later, another "Beep."  This continues to no avail and it takes almost ten "hard reboots" which is killing my hard disks to even get back into the BIOS configuration, wherein I modified the DCM settings to 133 instead of 166.  Now the computer boots but continues to tell me:
    Unknown Processor at 1533mhz
When I did get it to run at 1910mhz (notice 1910, not 1917 as it should be), it also said Unknown Processor.  Then, on one of the three ocassions I was actually able to boot the computer at the higher clock speed, none of my drives appeared.  On the second ocassion, the Linux boot process froze and on the third, Windows XP wouldn't boot.  Now, if anyone has any suggestions as to what BIOS settings I can try, or even resetting my BIOS to a previous version, then trying to reflash it, that would be great....  If, however, this is more of an issue with an MSI BIOS patch, please release another version that works.   Thanks much!

Go with the Tbred 2400+ bud, Thats what i have at the mo in my KT3 Ultra 2C, and with my old MSI ti4200 with 128mb, it kept up with a K7N2 Delta ILSR which is running a Barton 2600+ and an MSI FX5600XT with 256mb (that rig only beats me on the extra test in 2001se and 2003 that the FX card covers).
Cant wait for my K7N2 Delta ILSR to arrive to go with my Ti4600.
Should happily blow the Barton rig away

  • AMD Athlon and VIA KT333 seems to SUCK!

Has anyone gotten an Athlon Xp and VIA KT 333 to work 100% reliable yet?
    I can't, unless I run my FSB at 100Mhz instead of 133Mhz.
I am on my second motherboard and second stick of pc2700 ram.
    Here are my stats.
    Athlon XP 2200+
    MSI KT3 Ultra2     and     ECS K7VTA3 v3.1
Crucial Tech PC 2700 Ram with Micron Chips.  (First 2700 that I sent back was Samsung)
    400 Watt PS
    VisionTek Geforce3 64mb
    2 Intel NICs
Cooler Master CPU Fan - DP5-6J31C-A1
I have found that 133Mhz is just totaly unstable.  If I run at 133 I get random freezes and or reboots.  I will sometimes crash to desktop as well.
I have heard that there is some issue with VIA and Nvidia and AGP 4x.  To bypass this I have manually set my AGP to 2x in BIOS.
I have also heard that there is an issue with the VIA drivers and that you should use the slower ones that come with XP.  I tried this and it doesn't help, and the VIA drivers cause no problems at 100Mhz.
I have tried things like running my DDR 333 memory at DDR 266 instead and that doesn't help the stablity at 133Mhz.
I have also taken out everything except an HD, VideoCard, and 1 CDRom to try to limit the wattage I am drawing and that doesent help.  I also did the reverse to see if I was boderline by running 2 HD's,2 CD's, 1 Internal Zip, 1 Floppy, 3 PCI cards, and 1 AGP Video card. With all this in I get the same results.
My CPU temps run from 53 to 60 degrees c.
Besides my PSU fan and the CoolerMaster CPU fan I am running 2 80mm case fans.  1 in the front bringing air in to cool HD.  1 in the back exhausting hot air.  I also have an 80mm system exhaust card mounted next to my GeForce to exhaust any hotair it is generating.
I have been fighting this stupid system for over a month now.  Can anyone HELP!  I just want to be able to play NWN stablely.
    Thanks
    [email protected]

When I bought this system over a month ago a friend at work ordered the same Motherboard and Proc.
He has had the exact same issues, all though he thinks he is stable now.  He doesn't really tax his board like I do so it's hard to say for sure.
We have basiclly tried swapping out all our parts with each others with no luck.
He is on his second memory stick and gave up on his ECS K7VTA3 board and got an ASUS board that is KT333.  I can't remember which.  The ASUS board was even worse how ever.  It would reboot in about 15 seconds regularly.  He has since sent that back for another but claims is second ECS K7VTA3 v3.1 is now stable.  Again he doesn't really tax it however.
We are not newbies to this stuff.  We work in the field and have been doing this sort of stuff for years.  We have never seen anything like this however.
So again..I have tried multiple boards..memory..procs..videocards...HDs ...OS's....Bios Settings.
If any one out there is scurrently running an MSI KT3 Ultra2 with an XP 2200+ I would be interested in knowing alot of info.
    Bios settings
    Driver versions
    OS versions and SP level.
    Thanks.
